I'm back in Whangarei for 3 days. I’m meeting rustynz and eventually Rebel98 for some caching fun in and around this city. Staying 2 nights at Stonehaven motel, we have a bucket full of caches to do, we have plans! Plans must go ahead.

Rusty has caught up at the motel, and we're off to go kayaking shortly. I have 2 kayaks on my van, mine and hers and we'll be doing an old cache in Ngunguru that requires a paddle.

Rusty wanted to come here, yes... she did trick me into climbing the hill...lol. But I was alright with it, especially as I thought there would be good views on this very sunny day. We did take a while to spot the hide, rusty found it and we sat on the chair to admire the views after signing in and rehiding the cache. Thanks for bringing us here vistra.

Checked on the cache while in the area today. The path up was quite muddy & slippery in the middle of winter. Cache was a bit tricky to remove, as the wood must be a bit swollen with all the rain, but otherwise all good.

I was going to head out to Ngunguru a few weekends ago but when I got home Friday night we were told we were going into another lockdown Sad I had been hoping to collect the points I needed for my Mt Elbrus souvenir. I was relieved when no covid-19 cases were discovered in the North and we could go free again.

Today was our first day at level two. Woohoo! Geocaching again Smile

I had 7 caches planned for the day some of which required low tides. Fortunately my 16 year old son's school didn't start until tomorrow so he could come along. There was definitely going to be some scrambling around rocks and I didn't fancy doing it alone. We had a great afternoon and I managed to get all the caches I had wanted.

I do appreciate all the work locals do to improve their towns. A chair up here is a lovely dedication to your Aunty. This cache did take me a while to find though. My phone wasn't showing the hint so I searched the chair thoroughly before finally nudging something. Whew. A great view and a clever hide. Thanks Vistra Smile

Have been meaning to collect this GC for a while. Been hampered by bad weather, closures and of course COVID. Beautiful views from the spot and a really nice walk to get a total view of Ngunguru.

A stunning and rewarding view with a very clever and cool hide. A great cache to finish my finds for today. FP. TFT(best)C(and find of the day).

Nice little leg-stretch up to here, and great views as promised. A cunning hide too means this one gets an FP, thanks vistra. Will add a couple of pics later.

Heading north for Christmas, we're off to Ngunguru for 6 days along the Tutukaka coast and accompanied by our youngest daughter, middle daughter and family, and will meet up with one of our sons and his family too, so a busy time. Had a great time away and ate well, watered well and a bit of fishing and kayaking, awesome weather mostly too in Northland.

Well that was a nice little adventure on a pleasant summer night.

I got back from my exercise jaunt tonight just before 9:00 pm to find that a new cache had been published in Ngunguru an hour earlier. I was tempted to head out straight away, but decided on dinner first. With no found logs showing, I made the call just before 10:00 to head out for a look, being as the weather was so pleasant.

Once parked up at Kopipi, I made my way up the track to the top of Ngunguru hill, a place I have never been before, so another new place geocaching has taken me. It was surprising, even in the dark, just how much could actually be seen, but the camera wouldn't pick it up.

After an initial unsuccessful sweep of GZ, just going from my memory of what the hint said, I thought I had better read the description and hint properly. That helped and the cleverly constructed cache was soon in hand. And yes, the log was still blank, so this became FTF number 143 for me @ 10:30 pm.

Replaced the log and cache safe and secure as found and then headed back down the hill. Back at the cache mobile, the distance on my Strava app wasn't enough, so I continued on for a walk around the block. And who should I bump into in the dark at quarter to eleven than a friend I haven't seen in years. Had a good chin wag for 20 minutes, but then it really was time to head back to town.

A definite FP for the adventure, the view and the neat cache construction and clever hide. TFTC
