Fun find even though we hid from the rain great spot

30-Sep-24
Having dropped Mrs Msc20 at the airport, I meandered my way back to the Tron picking off a number of nearby caches en route.I've driven past here many times in the past couple of years but never had the opportunity or taken the time to stop.Well, I put that right today. No chance of being stumped here. Spotted the cache peeking out as I approached. Thanks eyespyben#5489

24-Aug-24
A wet day around Taupiri saw rattll and I head to this reserve next to the expressway. Quickly spotted under camo. All well. Signed and returned as found, but added some extra cover. Tftc!

24-Aug-24
After attending the MCC's farewell event, we thought we'd do this little trail. It's one we've meant to stop for many times but just hadn't gotten around to it until today. The rain started just as we arrived, so we enjoyed a coffee in the van while waiting for it to pass. Once the skies brightened, we headed out.Once again I was thinking it could be in quite a number of places here, and before I had time to start looking, matagouri had found it. Thanks for putting this here

05-May-24
Had to get our hands dirty

05-May-24
Bit of a messy hiding spot

15-Apr-24
This one took me way longer than I care to admit, but after talking down to the next cache and coming back, I'm happy to log it as found. Trust your instincts on this one.

11-Mar-24
Found on a family trip away with trayc.g & MrMuggle. TFTC

10-Mar-24
A good walk to this spot and after I checked the correct one I soon saw a suspicious bit of camo and there it was. TFTC

10-Mar-24
eventually found this around waist height[8]

08-Mar-24
I wanted to make a stop on the way home from Auckland today, and figured 5 caches would be a good excuse to finally stop at the reserve that I've driven past however many times. This one had me a bit stumped, I checked every spot I could think of, including the right one, but looked at it from the wrong angle and completely missed it. A quick visit down to the end of the path to retrieve the next cache and then returning with a fresh set of eyes seemed to do the trick. TFTC

07-Feb-24
Fourth find of the day today, this one took us a little bit, but once we went down the right path, we located GZ, and didn't stay stumped for too long. TFTC!

24-Dec-23
While on my way to pick up my daughter's in Hamilton I came across this nice grouping of caches which I thought I had time to pick up. A perfect opportunity to park up and have a quick walk. I came at this one from all angles possibly overthought it but nice to reveal the hidden cache in the obvious stump. TFTC

23-Dec-23
We have often driven past here and thought about stopping to collect these caches. Today we decided to drive and try them out. The motorway had been pretty busy and its a hot day so we were more than happy to get out of the car. Our second find here. We like all the paths leading off in different directions and spotting lots of wildlife whilst the cars zoom by.

Another check today, made a slight adjustment to the hide and updated the hint

ready to be found

10-Oct-23
Searched hi and low, behind and in front. Not for us today. Maybe another time.

New Cache in place ready to go

31-Aug-23
Hi McCutchan Cache Clan

This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.

Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.

Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

Regards
TheCoddiwompler

Looked high and low but no joy here.

11-Apr-23
Searched for a fair bit on this one too, but no luck. Followed hint but still no luck. Found a couple of skinks living here, so that was cool to see. I’ll be back to try again another day.

15-Jan-23
I’ll try again next time

27-Nov-22
Very wet container. I shook out as much water as I could. Nice quick find for me. I will try to get the very last one near my car, but there were a couple of campervans there with their stoves out cooking lunch. TFTC

02-Oct-22
I'm on a week's annual leave, choosing to spend time traveling north to visit and reconnect with a few friends up here, and naturally that also gives me an opportunity to do some caching up this way again. But all good things must come to an end, and so today is day 7 which is the big drive back south again.

I've stopped close by here before but never taken the time to go much further into this reserve. But this morning the sun was shining and I had time so thought "why not?"
Initially I didn't find the cache, and ended up walking away to go and do another. But before coming back for a second stab I read previous logs which advised me to lower my sights, after which the cache was a quickish find. did find all the other caches available, but not this one. Reading previous logs didn't help me, for whilst they tell you where not to look, they don't tell you much else. So I spent about 15 minutes poring through bushes etc before coming away empty handed.

So with the log signed I was able to replace it all as found and finally be on my way again.
Thanks for placing this one.

02-Oct-22
Too many ants around to have a decent look, and the sandflies or midgies weren’t helpful either.

03-Sep-22
Usually we are on a mission to reach a southern destination, as we drive passed this Scientific Reserve, but today we had time to stop and explore the reserve and locate the caches.
This one did not stump us for long, as it was a little exposed. Added some natural camo before heading to the last cache in the reserve. TFTC

21-Aug-22
Finally wasn't in a rush to get home today so pulled off here to explore this area and pick up a few caches.
Luckily it was an easy find.
Tftc

31-Jul-22
Having dropped daughter of at Auckland airport it was time to head south to Wellington. A few points of interest stops on the way and this was one of them. A quick find and sign. Thanks for the cache.

13-Jul-22
Wandering through the Scientific Reserve late on a very wintery winter's afternoon. We missed the entrance to this track on our way in so did the cache on the way back from the end. Quite a Pile here. TFTC

09-Jul-22
Just a tad embarrassing - there was I trying to direct a muggle where to look and what is there before my eyes and within my reach? - the cache. T4tc

21-Jun-22
Carried on with my walk around this reserve seeing lots of piles of tree stumps, I assume they were trees cut down to build the new motorway.
Luckily I read previous logs so I could search at the correct level.

19-Jun-22
Spooky seeing all the bugs in torch light haha...wasnt in the end we thought and yep down low.

22-May-22
Well it's definitely here just at the bottom rather than close to the top. Tftc

25-Apr-22
Sudden stop to see what the reserve was about. Brain wave halfway through that there might be some caches and there was. Sorry no pen in pocket as didn't come to find the caches.
Found it but not able to sign the log.
Followed other hints in logs to locate

20-Apr-22
Had a good look, high and low. No where to be found

27-Feb-22
Had a good look around but couldn't find it. Found lots of skinks!

26-Feb-22
Heading to Morrinsville and stopped to see how many of these caches we could pick up. Managed to do them all. Had to scroll through some of the earlier logs for clues as to where this one might be. Took a moment or two to locate. #4716. TFTC.

03-Feb-22
Quick find. Bottom not top. Put in new waterproof log.

25-Jan-22
Took a bit of searching, but never give up.
Log has been wet and is full.
All now soaking, saw previous finder ... done our best anyway.

22-Jan-22
Couldnt find it till i read Gecko's log. Easy after that. TFTC Big Grin

Was very pleased to locate this one with the previous DNF's. The hint is misleading, the cache is at the base. TFTC

03-Jan-22
Found the tree stumps but not the cache.

12-Sep-21
I think we found the right tree stump but we were unable to find the cache.

06-Aug-21
Rain started to fall and I’d a little optimistically left the coat in the car so I only made a brief search here before heading back. Didn’t locate the cache but did scare a rodent also investigating the stumps!

31-Jul-21
It has been a long time since Team SEAC did a numbers day, so we jumped on the chance to join when Keylev initiated this day. We started at 8 am and got home around 11 pm, and attempted most caches in Cambridge, Te Awamutu and finishing with a night cache in Huntly.
As we headed South, Mrs HeMaLuDy remembered this series of caches that have been on our radar for a while. We had previously found the cache in the carpark, but the rain was too heavy to carry on that day. Today we decided to stop, and wander to grab the other caches here. This was a nice easy find with so many pairs of eyes searching. Time to head along the track to the next one.

31-Jul-21
Quick find. Heading to Cambridge for the day. Signed SEAC our team name

31-Jul-21
My first full day with Team SEAC! Very excited and a little intimidated! Very fun.

Draffin was on thr ball with this. Was GL than the top, though. Tftc

Like the Willy Nelson song, Team SEAC were On The Road Again. It had been quite a while since we had gathered to go on a road trip, so a trip to Cambridge was organised to clear out that town. All logs signed as S.E.A.C to preserve log space.

Continuing walking and we headed to this cache. It wasn't hard to spot GZ, but it took a little time for the cache to reveal itself due to the fact that there were a fair bit of tree stumps here.

TFTC

31-Jul-21
A number of Team SEAC banded together for a road trip day out targeting Cambridge and surrounds and ending up with a night cache. As per usual there were laughs, dramas, cache finding and a generally fun day!

Got to the general GZ area, split up and each search a section - Draffin soon had it in hand.

Thanks for the cache.

31-Jul-21
It had been quite a while since Team SEAC had been on a caching road trip together so a plan was hatched for a day trip to clear out Cambridge. It was a long but fun day, as we cleared out Te Awamutu as well, with the promise of not leaving it so long before our next roadie. All caches were signed SEAC to save space.

As we were driving Southbound it made sense to stop at the Scientific Reserve to grab the short series. This was find #4 for the day. We all were searching GZ when I spotted it quite quickly but it was at GL. TFTC!

25-Jul-21
Had some spare time when heading past here today so I thought I'd better stop and give these caches a go. Headed to the end and cached back to the car, managed to avoid the rain also so a bonus there.
This one took a little searching, but it had to be somewhere. Eventually spotted it in a spot I wasn't expecting.

21-Jul-21
Found this today with Xmasbabe and frog93. Nice walk here before the rain. Good spot, TFTC Smile

21-Jul-21
A quick look in this spot and the cache was in hand. Log book was wet so we put in a dry piece of paper.

21-Jul-21
Out for the afternoon with a friend and my daughter and the dog to collect a few caches. Lovely walk managed to dodge the rain. Nice hide. Thanks

11-Jul-21
Miss Eight and I were about to give up on finding this, when we read Merlot's log. Got it! Log book too soggy to sign though. Thanks!

24-May-21
Found after reading the previous log, cheers

16-May-21
We tried looking for this on the way to the chimney with no success so carried on and had another look on the way back. Being very wary of the wasp nest on the nearby shrub we combed the stumps once again and were just about to give up when Nette called out she had found it. It was nowhere near where the hint said it should be, but at gl and well tucked in. Not knowing where it was suppose to be I returned it to the same place and headed back to the car pleased to not have a blue frown here

20-Mar-21
This was sitting on top, in sight, so may not be hidden exactly right. I wonder how old these stumps are and if they were in the swamp before? Tftc. I'm loving this walk

10-Jan-21
Dropped off child to Grandparents on the return journey it is just me and my dog. Perfect I can stop wherever I want. I have had my eye on this walk for some time now.
This cache had me stumped. I have had trouble with the phone location thingie. I guessed the location may be i was at the wrong place however it seemed logical to me. Will have to come back with the kids in tow they always seem to know how to work technology. Did see a cool little red bug though managed a pic before it disappeared.

03-Dec-20
Awesome walk to stretch the legs. Pencil snapped but will get back another time to write name.

29-Nov-20
Once I was on the right track, this was a quick, easy find in good condition, which is just right for a cold, wet and windy day. One more then back to taxi duties...TFTC.

19-Nov-20
Driving south and decided to stop here for a break and a walk. Lovely walk. Nice and easy find. Thanks for the cache.

29-Aug-20
#677 Mr and Mrs Northwood had not driven the Huntly bypass yet and spotted the new group of caches in this area so decided to spend the morning making the drive and finding some caches.

Very interesting place, did a bit of reading on the development and wildlife that is coming back when we got home. Enjoyed this walk, it'll be even better when the plants grow up and hide the expressway more. A quick find here.

03-Aug-20
I am on my way down to Hamilton for a day of caching and stopped to grab this cache. I didn't notice the fork in the path on the way, so I ended up circling around to get to GZ. TFTC.

03-Aug-20

Apologies for the late logs. Went for a quick walk to find these at 1am. Funnily enough, noone in the area made for some quick finds Smile
TFTC McCutchan Cache Clan, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 2 find(s) of 3 today, making this find #2183

13-Jul-20
Driving through to Te Awamutu for work. Decided a quick break was in order.

Parked up and there was one other car in the car park so had to wander down the track and start with the other caches down here

The light drizzle was starting to get a bit heavier!!

Quickly found the cache and the log signed. Noted that someone else had also found this cache today and was wandering if it was them I had seen parked in the car park.

TFTC

27-Jun-20
After a more lengthy hunt for a nearby cache we were pleased to make a quick find here. That is after we backtracked about 50 metres when we realised we had walked right past GZ, having been so captivated with the unique scenery.
Nicely tucked away. TFTC.

21-Jun-20
Gorgeous evening to explore this new path. Thanks for the wander and cache!

14-Jun-20
Met up with some of the team for a Waikato caching trip.
No real plan set out so we attached the cache we thought would take the longest.
Sure enough a couple of hours later we had completed our history lesson for the day. SLTFTC

14-Jun-20
With Gap (of Fap and Gap), the nieces, and the dog - Another drive into the Waikato to round up whatever hides we can within the timeframe we have to work with...

A delayed start, but at least the journey was pleasant... After circling through the Ohinewai Interchange, we switched back onto the Waikato Expressway... This new road is amazing!

By the time we arrived here, other visitors were almost upon us. This took us a bit longer to find as we were looking higher up. In the end, the telltale sign of natural camouflage gave it away. Thanks McCutchan Cache Clan and TFTC.

05-Jun-20
Lovely walkway near swamp.

Mrs McMike2012 thought that we should drive down to the 'Tron' & visit the Botanical Gardens for a bit of a walk ... drove over the new motorway & decided to stop here for a look-see ... oh! there are caches here ... this one was an easy find, so log completed & returned without incident ... met a couple of other catchers here, twf & psychrn, had a bit of a natter before heading off to find a couple more at this general location ... TN:LN:SL ... TFTC ... #1,697 for us.

A very pleasant walk along the side the lagoon with a few birds on the water.

23-Mar-20
Find number 6853. Another plan by Boges to get out and clear these caches in case there is a covid lock down. Cache was quickly spotted at GZ. Signed and placed back. Once we had completed them all we listened to the news as we drove off and heard that the country had been raised to level 3 so this may be the last geocaching trip for a little time. Thank you for the placement.

23-Mar-20
On the journey north with Hairy KGD to get the series by the new express way. After heading north it was south and this was soon in hand. No idea why its call Scientific Reserve. tftc
