04-Oct-24
Traveling with Tankengine and Youban for the long weekend. We are looking forward to meeting up with friends in Penrith this weekend for some caching and fun. Along the way up, we picked up a few caches to break up the drive and stretch our legs. So this cache: Too good for me today. Saw mentioned wasp nest though. Thanks anyway.

Spent way too long looking for this in all the wrong places. Started at the GPS coords and then noticed the reports of the location being off. So I widened my search in what turned out to be the wrong direction. Eventually took a break and went back through more logs, and was surprised by the number of logs saying they spotted the cache on arrival at GZ, which made me realise I'd been looking for something more complicated and subtle than it actually was. Widened my search in the other direction and found it fairly quickly. Signed log and replaced it closer to the GPS coords, since it seemed to have been suffering from cache creep. Also, beware the paper wasp nests in the rail - they were fine with me but can become aggressive if they feel threatened. TFTC!

Find number 12748 at 5:08:44pm on Wednesday the 13 December 2023Time to use up a travel voucher before it expires on December 31 so I hatched a plan for a day trip to Sydney to do some LGA's and SideTracked geocaches. First flight out of Melbourne in the morning and last flight back in the evening, it turned out to be a long day, up a 3:30 and back home at half past midnight for a total of nineteen geocaches, thirteen SideTracked and nine LGA's SmileSort of like walking the plank to this one.Running short of time now and need to start heading back towards the airport.**Thanks for placing this cache Aussiebrian**---Don't miss finishing the Ballarat GeoTour before it ends on 4th March 2024. A list of the geocaches can be found [here](https://coord.info/BM9GWJ5). The final GeoTour Event is the [Farewell Ballarat GeoTour](https://coord.info/GCAFQ8B) on the 18th February 2024!You can also get prepared for the 2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards by checking out our preliminary lists [here](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists/).

On our way home we got sidetracked and decided to collect a cache.

We parked up and headed towards GZ. As always we chose the hardest possible route to collect it. We had to change tact and try a different approach. This paid off and in moments we had the cache in hand. We signed the log and replaced everything as found.

TFTC and the adventure.

G'Day

I'm sorry, but your recent move has brought your cache too close to a Physical Waypoint of [GC8QZF6: Picton's Ghosts bonus cache](http://coord.info/GC8QZF6) and will need to be moved. Please read the following item on [Cache Saturation](https://www.geocaching.com/play/guidelines?expand=1#cachesaturation)

I've disabled this listing for the time being, could you please move it to a new location that fits within the saturation guidelines. Once that is done you may enable the cache.

Rgds,
Matt - Ministro.

30,017. Found during an invasion of the 'Bargo up to Penrith' region on the Canberra Day long weekend with a great bunch of Cachers.

With the Canberra Day long weekend upon us, a number of Canberra region Cachers performed an invasion of the Bargo up to Penrith area. Canberra Day Invasion 2023 (signed as CDI23) consisted of minniek, Joolay, Kittykatch, isopeda, barb2e, albida33, smittengranny, Nibbletricecakes, GLISS!, Contesta, EverestHigh and myself. After half the group did a nearby 2001 Multi, we all caught up and hit the trail for many many caches. This was the next CDI23 find. The SideTracked series of caches are fun to find being a train buff. Nice quick find here. Log signed, cache replaced as found, then we moved on to the next one on our list.

Thanks Aussiebrian !!

Picton & Penrith Canberra Day weekend Invasion. Day 2. Today the trip got underway with the team caching. I sat out the walk to 'More', which I had done many years ago and joined up after a late morning break. The group was made up of Fitzy_1965, MinnieK, Joolay, Kitty Katch, Barb2e, Isopeda, Smitten Granny, Contesta, Gliss! and Nibletricecakes. EverestHigh joined a little later on. We had a huge list of caches to do and we got underway on a warming day. As things looked to be running out of time we changed to the end of the list to get to the Dam for a virtual and then cached out way back to Picton to get to the event and a chance to meet some locals and others caching in the area today. Dinner was a great local Picton Thai restaurant followed by finishing Lab caches before I headed back to Bargo for the night.

Whist the others were at 'More' I took a little time by myself to try a few caches I thought they would do on the way back. This was not on our list so I visited this and had to head to the other side to locate it. The team dropped by later in the day anyway.

Thanks for the cache Aussiebrian

Fitzy_1965 & I headed to the Picton region today with a bunch of friends from Canberra for our Canberra Day long weekend invasion (the joys of living in NSW but working in ACT for me). All caches were signed as CDI23.

We had a fun day finding, trads, puzzles & multis and a few AL's for good measure. We ended up at dinner at a great Thai restaurant after the event in Picton itself.

Can’t go past a side tracked!

With a long weekend in Canberra who can resist getting away! Joined a great bunch on friends to tackle a bit of the Picton area. The day included a big investment of time in an oldie (lots of fun) and then lots of caching in the region. A really delightful day trip with barb2e, Kittykatch, isopeda, albida33, fitzy_1965, Minniek, joolay, Smittengranny, contesta, EverestHigh and GLISS! Signed most of the caches as CDI - for Canberra Day Invasion. Thanks to all the cache owners for the fun!

Found on an overnight trip to Picton. I joined a large group of Canberra cachers for one day of the long weekend. Caches were signed as CDI2023 - Canberra Day Invasion 2023. My fellow invaders were - isopeda, barb2e, Nibbletricecakes, Kittykatch, albida33, fitzy_1965, Joolay, MinnieK, Contesta and Smittengranny. A Sydney local, EverestHigh joined us for many of the caches.
I do love a SideTracked cache. Great to add another to the collection.

Found this cache with Little Cricket and 007Mushu. The GPS was jumping around a bit and was pointing down into the abyss nearby. "That is not a 1.5 terrain" I thought, so we decided to ignore the GPS and follow the hint instead, making a quick find. Great hide TFTC Smile

Plenty of parking here so I got close to GZ to provide my own decoy cover.
I couldn't spot the cache from the carpark so I turned it from a T1.5 to a T2 and went to the other side of the fence where I easily spotted the cache.
After signing the log and replacing the cache I spent some time exploring and photographing the quaint country station.
The time boards were correct with a train heading to Sydney coming through just as I left the area.
