I need to find, but didnt sign. The log is the container was a little too slippery due to wetness to open. Thanks for the fun!

Day 13: Rangitoto and back againTodays business was to get one more high T cache in Rangitoto that I needed to complete my D/T grid and any other caches that happen to be along the way. Todays sunny weather meant that Rangitoto was quite warm, but the avid cacher persists despite the challenges that the terrain and weather presents. It was quite the tiring day but I always enjoy my Rangitoto excursions. Thanks everyone for the insane challenges on the island, though I couldnt get to quite a number of them owing to time.(End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for the cache:Ah, yes this one. The DNF here didnt seem to threatening, so I thought I will just have a peep to see if I could be luckier. Indeed I was, because the orange hue stuck out among the grey and blanks, and thus, I got the cache with no issues. TFTC!

We were fortunate enough to book a bach on the island with the goal to collect a number of the geocaches. This was our second day on the island and the big plan today was for Mr HeMaLuDy and Mr Stik-a-Crane to traverse the lava fields for the geocaches there, while Mrs HeMaLuDy took the more sedate route around the island via the tracks. Once Mr HeMaLuDy and Mr Stik-A-Crane had completed the lava field adventure they headed downhill (for ease of walking) and along the coast road back to the bach, collecting caches close to the road along the way. We overshot this by a few meters from the road but once the devices settled down we moved back towards the road and made the find. TFTC

Day 2 on the Island....on my first visit here, we (HeMaLuDy team and myself), had the grand plan of scaling the lava field caches.....luckily the sun was not full strength as this place would have not been a place to have fun....not that it was a fun place, as everything here wanted to rip the skin from your body...the caches were all, mostly good and in some sort of shade, but anything else was out to get you....moss that looked nice and delicate ,when touched would lacerate the shin, plants that looked like a form of flax would slice like cuty grass.....and let's not talk about the rocks/lava......leather gloves were my best friend, and savior on many occasions....heading for the lava fields we gathered a few along the way, then into it.....

Now heading for the accommodation collecting caches within 30m of the trail.....

TFTC.

A lovely day on the island.
Second place we looked on our way back from the lighthouse.

I made a suggestion to Merlot58 that we should do a trip to Rangitoto Island today a couple of days ago. She then suggested that Net61 should join us as well. So it was arranged that I would play chauffeur and shuttle them to the CBD in time to catch the 0915 ferry to the Island.

This was found on our way back to the wharf.

Cheers for the cache.

12-Aug-22
A nice quick find. Thanks for placing your cache.

Ms_KR and I are in Auckland Auckland for a break and we are exploring the region while we are based here. A lovely frozen windscreen followed by a blue sky day we headed over for a visit to Rangitoto. First time in 40 years! A great place to visit.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

I wasn't keen to go off the track too far but there was an obvious 'in' and some interesting rock. Somebody got carried away with looking at the amazing shapes and went too far. Luckily somebody else was on to it and came up withthe goods. We saw a few wasp traps like the one in the foto and some warning signs but no wasps. Tftc

A nicely hidden cache even despite its colour. Another quick find for us so that we can push on with our day.

Thats a bright container

Headed to Rangi to mop up a few caches that weren't here on our last visit. It's very hot today so heading back to the boat. Thanks

We caught the ferry out to Rangitoto this morning in the company of Team Welsh, Bennett24 and Tuolei. I approached GZ from a different angle to the others, and was pleasantly surprised to quickly spy a glint of orange between the rocks. Aha, found the Orange Pill, thanks.

14-Aug-21
Sorry, catching up on some logs - have got a bit behind what with lockdown, one thing or another. I visited this cache on a trip to Rangitoto with Kiwicouple, TeamWelsh and Bennett24 - it was a great day and while I didn't do much intrepid caching I enjoyed our finds.

Getting through our walk in and starting to think about a stop for lunch - hopefully a bit more substantial than an orange pill - but this was a suitable entree! Nice quick find by the group here. Thanks for the cache, all good here.

14-Aug-21
Another fun cache to find on the island, we missed it on our first cursory look but something caught Mrs KC's eye and bingo, there it was. Thanks for another great addition to the collection of caches on the island and I can honestly say I haven't seen a cache container like this before. Where on earth did you find it?

06-Aug-21
This one took a bit of searching. Had given up and when making my way back to the road I noticed a couple of pieces of rock that didn't look right. Sure enough the cache was being them. About 100 metres from here I was lucky enough to see a saddleback. Thanks for the cache.

24-Jul-21
Headed over to Rangitoto with a group of cachers with the aim of finding many of the new caches on the island, particularly the ones along the lava fields. It was a slow journey over to Rangi through the thick fog, but once we arrived the fog started to clear and the weather warmed up nicely. It was an enjoyable day, with no injuries and many finds. Those of us who ventured across the lave were well prepared with appropriate footwear and gloves. Log signed as Team Rangi.

24-Jul-21
Had a really lovely day geocaching around Rangitoto Island. Although I had been to Rangitoto before, this was the first time I'd been geocaching there. The day started off really foggy but once the sun burnt through the weather was on our side.

Was pleased to find this one as I noted a DNF just before. Log signed as Team Rangi.

24-Jul-21
It's been a few years since I've been over to Rangitoto Island, at one point I'd cleared all the caches on the Island! There's lots of new caches to find now, so when I saw that there was an event being held, followed by a trip over to Rangitoto, I jumped at the chance to go. AliGle and I arrived towards the end of the event, then a group of us headed over to the island on a slow, foggy ferry journey. On arrival at the Island, the fog cleared and we had beautiful weather for our time on the island. We headed up towards the summit then down to McKenzie Bay, via a few caches on the tricky lava fields! It was a great day our on the island, with great company, logs were signed as 'Team Rangi'. A quick find here, heading back along the road to the ferry. Thanks for the cache!

Set out today with a group of cachers on a midwinter trip to Rangitoto. Lava fields were navigated, caches were found, logs were signed, and a great day was had here, thanks to all involved!

We noticed the previous DNF but one of our group was able to find this one quickly. Not the sort of container I was expecting, but it all makes sense after looking at the cache page. Thanks for the energy and encouragement...and the cache, of course!

24-Jul-21
After the last search was a DNF I was wary, but successful. One to match another find at Tawharanui?

The much awaited (couple of weeks) trip to Rangitoto Island is here and we start off with a pre-departure event over on Downtown for sure at an ice-cream parlour to get festivities underway. I headed across to Downtown from Devonport and it is a really foggy day today, as well as the trip to the island also being real foggy and took a little while. 6 hours on this newbie island was enough to snag over 30 caches, spend some time in real good company with 'Team Rangi' (logs signed as), and head across the unstable and sharp lava fields. A good day and the sun burnt the fog off eventually, as well as my nose and forehead! Thanks to all COs for their placements and efforts here.

18-Mar-21
Sorry, couldn't spot it in the time I had. The searching sure is a painful scratchy business!

Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I were having day out & about visiting Rangitoto Island ... interesting learning about the history of this particular volcano & viewing first-hand the different structures & landscapes ... easy find with no issues, just gotta watch those darn sharp scoria rocks ... #14 of 20 for the day ... another 'smiley face' to the tally ... TFTC ... TN:N:SL ... #1,933 for us.

I "survived" the lava flow - Rangitoto

Liked the container on this one FMZ, it should have stuck out like a beacon, but it must have been a little shy, as it hid behind a rock.

Merlot58 grabbed this one, and the log was soon being signed.

Another fun find with a group of cachers on a Rangi adventure on the lava (alunb, FMZ, gorby, cyclicalcacher, rustynz and merlot58)

"Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette came to mind Wink

“Let’s go over to Rangitoto and play in lava field.” Someone said. “It’ll be fun!”

Well, yes it was loads of fun, but man oh man those lava stones are an experience!

Out with the group to Rangitoto today, for me it will all new for caches, so I had lots to collect, other less so, surprisingly didn’t have a single DNF on the island!

Good day, good company! Thanks to all the COs who placed caches here, especially the ones in all the sharp jagged scoria stones!

Specifics on this cache :

First a blue pills, now an orange pill...I’m not even sure what I’m taking anymore!!

An interesting container, nice quick group find, cheers

A group of 6 headed over to Rangitoto today in drizzly weather to collect the new caches here. Now I wonder what orange pills are good for? A nice quick find

24-Oct-20
Thanks I did wonder what orange pill you were going to talk about.
But all innocent in the end.
Interesting place to come and so close to a large city.
Kiscardi’s idea to come today. I’m pleased she suggested it.

Got to love the name of some of these caches. thanks for placing and maintaining.
Traveling around the North Island with NZ Bozzy mainly to find TMGT caches and some oldies as well as filling in some DT blanks.
The main reason for visiting Rangitoto was to grab the higher DT caches on the lava but decided to grab a few on our walk around there.
Thanks for bringing us to this lovely place
Apologies for all the copy and pastes

18-Oct-20
Out and about with the CO for a hike across the lava fields. But, before we got to that, I made sure to stop here and complete the formalities on this one. No issue making a quick find on this one with the CO nearby. Cheers for the cache placement!

MrsJAG joined up with Pax, Agazo and Tramyard to target a few of the higher terrain caches on Rangitoto. After completing the adventure lab cache and finding the bonus, we continued around the island clockwise. With 4 sets of eyes it didn't take long to find this brightly coloured orange pill. Joint {FTF} with Pax, Agazo and Tramyard.

Wow... That was a quick find and log and a cool container... I wonder who needs pills in this size

Thank you for the cache

This was by far the easiest cache we placed today (FMZ's cache actually), it really is a park n' grab, and we did it on our way back to the ferry. By now I'm quite stuffed! Done more lava hopping than I'm comfortable with, my ankles hurt from the rough and unforgiving lava road we walk on, but it's been a fun day. I live to tell the story.

I'm a bit worried about the C.O lately, he's talked about blue and red pills (GC90710), now orange ones, I'll have to keep an eye upon him!
