We headed out to the island today to do a little hiking and had the good fortune to find a number of geocaches. The day was largely a light mist, but turned into a good rain shower in the early afternoon. Thanks for setting this one up!

Don't think I'll have time for the 4.5t power trail, but this kind of cache is right up my alley.Quick find once the right searching area was identified. Thanks

Day 13: Rangitoto and back againTodays business was to get one more high T cache in Rangitoto that I needed to complete my D/T grid and any other caches that happen to be along the way. Todays sunny weather meant that Rangitoto was quite warm, but the avid cacher persists despite the challenges that the terrain and weather presents. It was quite the tiring day but I always enjoy my Rangitoto excursions. Thanks everyone for the insane challenges on the island, though I couldnt get to quite a number of them owing to time.(End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for the cache:First of the challenge trio for today, and this one was not as straightforward as I thought it would be because I kept missing the cache even though I removed the rock that was sheltering it. I must have been super blind to repeatedly miss it like that. Oh well such is the cachers luck sometimes. TFTC!

A nice quick find thanks to a good hint. There were a few muggles exploring this trail today so we had to be stealthy but fortunately none came along as we were finding, signing and returning this cache. Thanks Pax for the placement.

We were fortunate enough to book a bach on the island with the goal to collect a number of the geocaches. This was our second day on the island and the big plan today was for Mr HeMaLuDy and Mr Stik-a-Crane traversed the lava fields for the geocaches there, while Mrs HeMaLuDy took the more sedate route around the island via the tracks. We decided to grab this cache before the guys headed off onto the lava. A nice quick find here and a lovely view.

Day 2 on the Island....on my first visit here, we (HeMaLuDy team and myself), had the grand plan of scaling the lava field caches.....luckily the sun was not full streangth as this place would have not been a place to have fun....not that it was a fun place, as everything here wanted to rip the skin from your body...the caches were all, mostly good and in some sort of shade, but anything else was out to get you....moss that looked nice and delicate ,when touched would lacerate the shin, plants that looked like a form of flax would slice like cuty grass.....and let's not talk about the rocks/lava......leather gloves were my best friend, and savior on many occasions....heading for the lava fields we gathered a few along the way, then into it.....

TFTC.

I made a suggestion to Merlot58 that we should do a trip to Rangitoto Island today a couple of days ago. She then suggested that Net61 should join us as well. So it was arranged that I would play chauffeur and shuttle them to the CBD in time to catch the 0915 ferry to the Island.

I spotted this one before Net61 and signed the log.

Cheers for the cache.

A great day trip to the island with Merlot58 and Tufty.
Nicely spotted by Tufty.

Nearly nope but then KR got it. That's good advice to bring plenty of food. We left home with a few apples, muesli bars and nuts and raisins. I didn't think that was enuf so made peanut butter sandwiches. Then we had time for breakfast before the ferry and bought sandwiches for lunch. They were yummy even tho I'd already had a muesli bar and 2 lollies by then. We didn't need the sandwiches from home so I toasted them for breakfast the next day as we had no bread left at home. I'm not sure if the other half knew that they were well traveled. Tftc

A nice quick find. Thanks for placing your cache.

Ms_KR and I are in Auckland Auckland for a break and we are exploring the region while we are based here. A lovely frozen windscreen followed by a blue sky day we headed over for a visit to Rangitoto. First time in 40 years! A great place to visit.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Headed to Rangi to mop up a few caches that weren't here on our last visit. Thanks

We caught the ferry out to Rangitoto this morning in the company of Team Welsh, Bennett24 and Tuolei. We have been enjoying the View back towards Auckland city all the way along this track. Especially liked it when it looked like the Skytower was built on top of North Head! This one was an easy find. TFTC

Sorry, catching up on some logs - have got a bit behind what with lockdown, one thing or another. I visited this cache on a trip to Rangitoto with Kiwicouple, TeamWelsh and Bennett24 - it was a great day and while I didn't do much intrepid caching I enjoyed our finds.

This is certainly a very nice view and well worth the walk in which is a pretty easy walk and in very pleasant conditions - lucky to almost entirely dodge the rain. Time for a cache and lunch with good company here. Thanks for the cache.

14-Aug-21
All the views along here are amazing, incredible to think you are so close to NZ's biggest city and yet so far away. Thanks for another cache on Rangi, they are all appreciated.

06-Aug-21
This one didn't take too long to hunt down. Thanks for placing.

Had a really lovely day geocaching around Rangitoto Island. Although I had been to Rangitoto before, this was the first time I'd been geocaching there. The day started off really foggy but once the sun burnt through the weather was on our side.

No issues here, thanks.

24-Jul-21
It's been a few years since I've been over to Rangitoto Island, at one point I'd cleared all the caches on the Island! There's lots of new caches to find now, so when I saw that there was an event being held, followed by a trip over to Rangitoto, I jumped at the chance to go. AliGle and I arrived towards the end of the event, then a group of us headed over to the island on a slow, foggy ferry journey. On arrival at the Island, the fog cleared and we had beautiful weather for our time on the island. We headed up towards the summit then down to McKenzie Bay, via a few caches on the tricky lava fields! It was a great day our on the island, with great company, logs were signed as 'Team Rangi'. A quick find here, heading back along the road to the ferry. Thanks for the cache!

Set out today with a group of cachers on a midwinter trip to Rangitoto. Lava fields were navigated, caches were found, logs were signed, and a great day was had here, thanks to all involved!

I was the one who found this one, all good as per the hint and replaced as found. Signed as Team Rangi to represent all of us who were present. Thanks for the cache Big Grin

After a week on another island Mr went home and Mrs stayed on... What better excuse but join some fellow cachers heading to this island for a spot of caching... Great views across the waters after the fog cleared. Cache quickly found and signed. TfTC

24-Jul-21
Headed over to Rangitoto with a group of cachers with the aim of finding many of the new caches on the island, particularly the ones along the lava fields. It was a slow journey over to Rangi through the thick fog, but once we arrived the fog started to clear and the weather warmed up nicely. It was an enjoyable day, with no injuries and many finds. Those of us who ventured across the lave were well prepared with appropriate footwear and gloves. Log signed as Team Rangi.

The team works well and this was located and signed up, cheers.

The much awaited (couple of weeks) trip to Rangitoto Island is here and we start off with a pre-departure event over on Downtown for sure at an ice-cream parlour to get festivities underway. I headed across to Downtown from Devonport and it is a really foggy day today, as well as the trip to the island also being real foggy and took a little while. 6 hours on this newbie island was enough to snag over 30 caches, spend some time in real good company with 'Team Rangi' (logs signed as), and head across the unstable and sharp lava fields. A good day and the sun burnt the fog off eventually, as well as my nose and forehead! Thanks to all COs for their placements and efforts here.

Came over to Rangitoto with a group of keen cachers: rustynz, merlot58, FMZ, CyclicalCaching, alunb and me off course. We got the first sailing at 9:15am and got the last one back at 4pm. The others had big plans especially FMZ who wanted to place caches on that lava. I was never going over the lava, too much for me now. It's well out of my comfort zone. But this cache is nice and easy as we head west to the start of the lava crossing.

Great company today, this cache is the last time I see my travelling buddies before they head across lava, better them than me I say! Thanks for the hide Pax.

I "survived" the lava flow - Rangitoto

Sometimes you get so focused on the journey (and not falling over) that you forget to look back and take in the view Big Grin

Thankfully I have taken a few pictures of the view, as we followed the road around to the lava flow. This is where we say goodbye to the comforts of a smoothed level surface. It is time to balance and weave our way to the top!

Another fun find _Pax_ on a geocaching adventure on Rangitoto Island with FMZ, Gorby, alunb, cyclicalcacher, merlot58 and rustynz

“Let’s go over to Rangitoto and play in lava field.” Someone said. “It’ll be fun!”

Well, yes it was loads of fun, but man oh man those lava stones are an experience!

Out with the group to Rangitoto today, for me it will all new for caches, so I had lots to collect, other less so, surprisingly didn’t have a single DNF on the island!

Good day, good company! Thanks to all the COs who placed caches here, especially the ones in all the sharp jagged scoria stones!

Specifics on this cache :

Good view indeed!

Thanks a newish cache for Kiscardi and I to sign on an impromptu trip to Rangitoto Island.
Up in Auckland for the non mega and the TMGT cache.
A very interesting island and so easy to get to.

24-Oct-20
Traveling around the North Island with NZ Bozzy mainly to find TMGT caches and some oldies as well as filling in some DT blanks.
The main reason for visiting Rangitoto was to grab the higher DT caches on the lava but decided to grab a few on our walk around there.
Thanks for bringing us to this lovely place
Apologies for all the copy and pastes

Out and about with FMZ trying to locate some newly published caches on Ranigtoto Island. This was one of them. It was an impromptu decision and I had to rush to get ready in time but we made it to the Island. This one was soon located after a brief search. Another joint first to find (FTF). We experienced many nice views across the water today, including this spot. Right, now to head across the lava fields. Cheers for the cache placement!
