Why is this gate here?Huh?I'm so confused! And how did Tankengine find this place?Questions, questions, and very few answers.Pulled off on a large pulloff a bit north of GZ and wandered to the aforementioned gate.Soon located the cache and had the logbook signed. Thanks for placing this cache Tankengine!
Find # 1263524/8/2024 After heading out for a few hours of morning fun with 4 other caching bikers out the back of Kowen Forest. Once the first stage of the list was done and dusted, I decided to push in solo as the others were pooped and had had enough. I was after just a few more TE caches.Fantastic winters day to be out and about. Thanks Tankengine for Gloomy Gate
Out here for the great GEOBASH with team T.A.C.K.T its going to be a big couple of days :3Out here for the great GEOBASH with team T.A.C.K.T its going to be a big couple of days :3We just missed out on seeing the steam engine coming into the station
In Canberra for the geo bash with team tackt, a nice quick find, thanks for placing it
In Canberra now and today concentrating on the caches in Queanbeyan.I think the Danger rating of this one should be higher.Caching with and signing 5 for QLD.TFTCache Tankengine
Another day spent Pre-Mega geocaching. Today we are chasing caches out of Queanbeyan signing Log sheets as "5 for QLD" to save space. Five in a car meant we had a lot of funWhat a busy, busy road this was on a Friday. It could be quite dangerous as these cars really go for it along here. Log signed and cache replaced as found on 22 March 2024. TFTC, Tankengine
Lonely gate might have been more like it- grass is about 10ft high at the moment but there it was, the cache just as expected. What a crazy gate! TFTC!
Headed out for a quick four cache haul with the geokid this afternoon. Made sure to stomp loudly as we walked through the long grass. They were looking in slightly the wrong direction, but I saw it quickly. Thanks
We have a client in Queanbeyan so we decided to take advantage of being in the area. The weather had held off for a short while so after grabbing another nearby, we stopped and grabbed this one as well. We have seen this gate as we had driven past many times, but never really thought about the reason why it would be there. Thanks Tankengine for the hide.
My god its hot out today. As Tankengine, Aquilus1 and I were driving by, Tankengine was nice enough to let us find this one. We all walk to the short distance and found the cache quickly. What a cute little gate by its little lonesome. Tftc!!!
Found with dty73 and Tankengine while the weather was still not too hot. Staying close to the car and the air-conditioning is a good plan for the day!Someone turned the sun up! It was a short walk in on the track but I feel enough from the sun. Luckily, we came in on the right side of the gate as it was padlocked firmly shut! That's a lot of debris and flood waters through here. Thanks for the cache!
Poor sad lonely gate. Found the cache with my mate Knightech. Thanks, Tankengine.
That certainly is a pointless gate. didn't even seem to slow down the water flow.
Nice quick find and on my way. Thanks for the cache.
Nice quick find and on my way. Thanks for the cache.
TFTC TE! You really have a knack for finding these types of structures with very little practical.use! As a previous finder said, this little gate appears to be more of a filter than a portal.
Unfortunately I could not find this cache. I looked exactly where it was but nothing was seen. It’s a really overgrown place and I saw a dead rabbit.
Day #1 of 2 (01/01/23)
What a great way to start the New Year. I heard that Canberra had a New Year’s Day event and decided that, I needed to be there. So, I drove over and noticed that I had some free time up my sleeves. I headed over the CBR WIG series to find some more. Unfortunately, due to high traffic I couldn’t get all of them. Then, I checked into my motel and from there over to the event. I turned up about 20 seconds before the CO. Soon enough, everyone else started turning up and a huge crowd was there. It was great fun and then Sebass19 and I headed off to find some caches nearby. This included Labs plus bonus and a multi. After this we headed off our separate ways. I then found a couple of more caches before heading back to the motel. Red Rooster for dinner tonight.
Day #2 of 2 (02/01/23)
‘Arrrr’… I said while stretching at 4am. Why so early and worst of all I couldn’t get back to sleep. Oh well, once the sun was up, I headed off to get some breakfast. A 25 minute wait at Hungry Jacks… plus the 15 minute wait for them to open. During this time, I ran across the road and found the cache that has been on the to-find-list for quite some time. Then I headed over to ‘Pialligo Redwood Forest’ to find a solved puzzle. Next I tried to find another lot of caches in the CBR series and some other caches further along the same road. However, once again high traffic meant I couldn’t stop at them safely and so I moved on. Next, I needed a multi-cache for the day, so I found one of DSD’s Highest Mint Tins. Then I went to the Belconnen Mall for some shopping and lunch. Then I went and filled up and went over to Hall to find the cache at the church before heading home. I got home around 5pm and that ended my trip away.
My last find of New Years Day. I have driven pass this one too many times to count and this today I decided that today I needed to find it. It was also light traffic meaning I could pull up safely. I left the car running and I headed over to GZ. A quick find was had and soon it was signed and replaced. Now time to get some dinner and head to the motel.
TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring me and the caching community enjoyment. TFTC’s and TFTE!

That is an odd gate. Given the recent floods - and may be even the ones before - it acts like a filter for the river, albeit only filtering a smidgen of what would have come down here.
The flood evidence is quite humbling.
TFTC it is healthy and dry - just bearing the history of floods on the outside.

After a walk along the Molonglo Gorge decided to stop and pick this one up on the way home. TFTC.
A gorgeous winter's day, perfect for caching around Oaks Estate. I parked a little up the road and wandered down to make a straightforward find in the obvious location. Cache and log are in good condition, which is more than I can say for the gate!
Thanks, Tankengine!

Found with taytayy1!
Have tried to find this cache on numerous occasions in the past, usually I find myself passing here in the wrong vehicle which I can not pull far enough off the road, or the road itself is flooded and closed!
Today was different, it was a nice day and we had a small car! Pulled off the road and walked through the thick weeds on the ground towards the gloomy gate.
Quick find upon arrival! The thought of a cache under the bridge excited me, but that would of been a lot more work to get too
Thanks TE

It’s in great condition and got rough go to the gate but left a stick on top of the gate for other geocachers to make it easier ️
#13323 - 2:03:00 PM; Needed a multi for my current daily challenge, so headed over to Queanbeyan to give one a try. That part of the mission complete I headed for home and saw this one appear on the GPSr, so decided to stop as I passed. Made my way to GZ and soon spotted the cache, but it took a little work to extract the log for signing. TFTC Tankengine
More like an OverGrown Gate at present.
Reached the peak of Everest and climebed all continents. Woohoo!

The last day of my extra long Australia day week off led me on a loop from Hall to Sutton to Queanbeyan and home via Fyshwick. I was keen to deal with a DNF and get a Where-i-go cache for today's date.
I am sure the gate is there for a reason, but I have no idea what is might be. Lots of greenery around.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine

After abandoning my hunt for two nearby caches due to one missing and the other on the wrong side of a very flowing river ... happy to nab this 3rd one off my hit list for the day. Interesting spot - and no - I too have no clue why this is here. Other than as an excuse for a cute little cache!
Thanks Tankengine for entertaining me at this location.

Back across the border for a service with some time to spare made for a loop around the city and outskirts on my bike to collect some more long neglected caches.
This nice TE cache was the first on my route. Quick find at the gloomy object, nicely spotted worthy cache location, all in good order.
Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Found it, but forgot my pen! Watch out for all the brambles of you come from oaks estate
I wanted to be in the FTF race for this one but the water kept me away and afterwards life kept getting in the way of caching. Today I was driving by and took the opportunity to make the fast find. TFTH

Well that was interesting - where we inside? Or were we standing outside?
Would be interesting to know why there was a padlock and chain looking shinny, new and expensive. Quick and easy find. Now to go and look at some windmills nearby. TFTC Tankengine.

The gate was looking gloomy all in its own little spot ,but the cache was dry which was the main thing .
It will take a few days for authorities to clean the debris up on the road as well .
Thanks to Tankengine for the cache hide . Always a nice place to drive over any time of year .

Found with The Matetrix, geokids 2 and 3
With the kids Czech class over for the morning noticed there was a newly published cache only 3 minutes drive away. Packed them up for the short commute and parked adjacent to the closed gates. Reading then the publication discovered it was still yet to be found, the recent rains submerging well under water. Hopeful the river had dropped safely awasy we wandered down the road, where it was immediately obvious it had. Would it be enough?
As we got closer we could see GZ was approachable and indeed we could make it all the way there. Cache equickly found, still 10cms underwater, but importantly nice and dry. Carefully signed and replaced we headed back and across the bridge, the water lapping slightly over the lower edge. What a mess though, and it happens every time there is heavy continual rain.
Favourite added for the adventure, the geokids were amazed at the power of water. TNLNSL TFTC

Well , this was a drama . Only the ducks as per the photo had a chance .Tried from the Oaks Estate side first ,but could only get within 100 m at best .
So ventured around the other way next .
Could get within 26 m but then I didn’t bring the scuba gear .
Two photos supplied .
Will be back . Ducks were enjoying proceedings !
Thanks Tankengine.
