Trouve ! / Found it ! Little excursion to the island of Urupukapuka Well, it didn't go as I hoped. Basically, I wanted to stay there for one night but after a ferry canceled the day before, one the same day... I didn't want to stay stuck there. So I spent a good morning there but that didn't give me time to explore the entire island... Too bad. But I was still able to find 11 caches, did a DNF and logbook replacement. Thanks to all the installers for placing these caches
You can go past the closed sign far enough to reach the cache. We didn't go any further but it would have been cool to see the pa.
I got a message yesterday from Yvettetb asking I'd I had plans for Waitangi Day. I replied "No", and was delighted later on to get a reply asking if I'd be keen to go to Urapukapuka Island. I was very excited as I've wanted to come back for years. We then finalised the plan over the course of the day.My Mum dropped us off in good time to catch the 8.30am ferry to Otehei Bay. The traffic really backed up after this so we were glad we came down early. We were treated to a detour today as the ferry driver took us back to Waitangi to see the Waka arriving down the river. Being a bit late getting to Urapukapuka we were fortunate we managed to get around the whole island. Both of us had quite sore knees by the end after all the hills. We walked 15.3kms and there were lovely views everywhere. I was only 30m from gz when I came across the closed track sign. I decided to have a go and it was fine to go just these 30m. I didn't venture out further for obvious reasons. The cache was all good and I took the trackable as it might be here a while otherwise. Thanks for our last cache of the day
What a fantastic way to spend Waitangi Day 2024 caching on Urupukapuka Island, the temperature was a little too hot (26) but the views were magical. Liss Crew and I took the 8.30am boat out to the island with others who were continuing on to the Hole in the Rock. The boat left Paihia for Russell, collected a few passengers before making its way to Waitangi for us to witness the spectacular Waka Parade as they paddled under the bridge and along the shore before heading out to the island. We travelled back on the 5.45pm boat to Paihia giving us time to have a beverage and snack in Otehei Bay.Liss Crew and I walked up and down the hills exploring the island and finding all the caches (except the multi). This cache was nicely tucked away in a shadey spot so we stopped nearby to have a drink before heading to the next cache. Well someone has forgotten to log it as I was not the first one to find it this year according to the log book. The track has a closed sign on it due to a slip but the slip is after the cache. I am old fashioned and used a GPS and forgot the date so that is wrong on the log. What a stunner of a day.
En voilier dans la rgion pour quelques jours nous en profitons pour faire une belle marche sur l'le et pour faire cette cache, dposer un TB et un coin en bois de la clbre heure de dner de La d'Hubert. Tout est en ordre. MP,C
Cache Nummer 50 in Neuseeland! Man muss ein bisschen klettern, aber dann kommt man ganz gut dran TFTC! Wieder ein schöner Ausblick.
A quick find here.
We walked around the pa site and thought about what it would be like to live in this place. It’s a stunning spot on a good day. TFTC Tregonning.
Day 10 of our Northland trip, and today was all about Urupukapuka island.
I have been here before, and had a 90 minute stop years ago when I got a couple of caches while having a tour stopover.
Today we decided to get the early ferry out and the last one back, giving us plenty of time to ramble around.
3.5 hours moving time, plenty of stops for photo ops for RG72, and a couple of hours to lounge around on the lawn waiting for the ferry. Possibly the best weather of the trip so far too - what’s not to like?
Thanks all COs, great day out.

Woohoo - a FTF! I saw this a couple of weeks ago, but thought that it would have been claimed by now, so I was in luck today! We had a full day on the island today and visited most of the caches. Lots of walking in pretty good weather and I was delighted to pick this one up! Great spot and a straight forward find with a spot on hint. TFTC
