It's been a while since I did gingera. Couldn't have picked a better day. I spent a while hunting for this one! I blame the fatigue and low blood sugar from the climb . Happy to get a smiley in the end. Tftc
Found on my way up Mt Gingera. After the slog of Stockyard Spur, it was nice to be out on the flats for a while. This one took a lot longer than it should have, it has been many years since I last actively went looking for bush caches, and I am a bit rusty.Thanks

31/3/2024 Find #6941Day three of our Canberra MEGA trip and today KBreeAHH, Captain Terror and I would be joined by Big Matt for todays Canberra Walking Adventure (not the other CWA ). Big Matt picked us up super early as we had quite a bit of a drive to get out here, but we all seemed reasonably lively enough. We were only a few kms in on our hike to Mt Gingera when we came to the little junction and made a quick stop to grab this one. Thanks for the cache Tankengine.
This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 13300.A nice quick find on my way up to Mt Gingera with Captain Terror, MinnieMoo and KBhahahahha. What a lovely little spot!Thanks Tankengine for the cache.
Nice to finally reach the end of Stockyard Spur and mark the occasion with a cache find. Took a moment for the GPS to settle but no issues from there. All good with the cache. Thanks Tankengine

With a relatively warm start to winter this year, and the soul eyeing some higher-altitude day hikes before the snow starts, this spur looked inviting. Following the track from Corin Dam, Mt Ginini was the peak of choice today. Unfortunately with such low cloud cover, there were no views, but it made for an enchanting bush stroll with good fauna spotting including a beautiful Lyre bird.

A good marker on a great hike trail. After going the "6.5km" way, I can safely say the 4km way sounds preferable! Easy find and sign, a classic TE cache. Thanks!

Walking up stockyard and Gingera isn’t my favourite pastime, and everytime I go up there and clean up the caches new ones miraculously appear. This time 3 new ones, and 2 older ones up on little Ginini were my goal for today.
Stockyard spur is always a challenge, but once at top everything below the waistline was wet, including the hiking boots and socks (everyone had the same problem we bumped into) due to the misty morning and walking thru tall grass on the 4wd track. Shoes can dry, later, these caches need to be found. All up a 8hr day to top of Gingera, and 22km hiking.
This cache was at the T intersection, one way lead to Gingera, the other to Ginini car park.

I've tried to find this cache before. As a wannabe cacher, the best approach is to take a fellow cacher with 9000+ finds. Thanks for the cache Tankengine, as usual, beautifully presented and in an obvious location - after it's sighted.
This was my first geocache! Roger and John got me hooked! Was great finding it was right in sight but took us a little while looking for the hanging bit. Great spot. TFTC!!
This was found on a Canberra Bushwalking Club led by JohnnyBoyACT with 3 muggles, though 1 muggle had his name put in the log book and has indicated an interest in becoming a geocacher.
A long day starting at 7.50 am from Corin Dam and finishing at 5.00 pm, with a walk up to Little Ginnini and Mt Gingera. 1200 metres approx of elevation and 21 kilometres of walking.
This was our first find for the day and took a few minutes of searching before spying it. TFTC.

Somehow I was talked into joining TikvaNZ for a walk up Mt Gingera. I skipped the last walk up as there were few caches for me, but it seems several were placed on that trip. It was a cool morning and we spent the first 1.5 hrs driving to the Mt Ginini Carpark. The car said it was six degrees outside and off we went. The undulating track took us to Pryors hut and then the base of the climb up the hill in another 1.5hrs. The climb up actually did not feel too bad after a few big climbs for the UFO series and some in Cairns, but It was a relief to be at the top and we had found all but the multi that had a WP up here. A few images and a snack and down we went via the multi. Lunch at the hut and another 1.5 hrs was past. The long not so flat walk back to the , with the last 3kms being a steady uphill effort had us ready to go after another 1,5hrs for a total of 4.5 on the walk and seven caches for me. I am glad I went and enjoyed the time walking and talking.
I have never walked along stockyard spur, still more very difficult to access caches exist that way, bit this cache was soon found and on we went.

Today, Albida33 and I joined forces to climb Mt Gingera again to grab the bunch of caches placed in February. An hour and a half drive to get to the car park. Then 2.5 hours to the top finding 5 (6 for Albida33) caches on the way. 2 hours back to the car finding 1 cache and having a lunch stop, then an hour and a half back to Canberra. It was quite chilly to start with but soon warmed up. Met a couple going up the last stretch on our way back down who had walked up Stockyard Spur. Only saw 3 other vehicles on Mt Franklin Road. A quick find here. TFTC.

I joined a group to walk to the top of Gingera (Namadgi Nomads) and had a lovely day tramping along the trails. I have never walked the track.uo along the Stockyard Spur and am glad to have this cache placed to use as a marker for the trail. Claiming the cache now the FTF has gone. Thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache Tankengine

Joolay, Kittykatch, GLISS!, dty73, Tankengine, Injuryman, Turtle284, dead thief, Dwarf Exploder, Sebass19 and I had a great hike up to Mount Gingera a week ago. Tankengine decided to place a few caches along the way, which was lots of fun and made the walk that much more enjoyable! Most of us signed the log as Namadgi Nomads. These few extra caches should encourage more people to make this hike!

It was an awesome walk to Mt Gingera with a great bunch of people and delighted that Tankengine decided to put out some extra caches. Not only do you have the fabulous old one at the top but extras to enjoy along the way.

When I saw these caches published I thought it was about time to head up Mt Gingera again - I'd not been since before the fires, and it's a spectacular part of the bush. I was able to rope in StarsAlign + GeoPartner (well, they didn't need too much convincing) and we set off from Canberra very early thismorning.
The road to Ginini is looking a bit the worse for wear, but we all made it intact although a bit bumped around. Spying an extra vehicle already in the carpark (who could this be?) we quickly shook ourselves out and hiked off at quite a rapid (well, for me) pace towards the first cache.
It's a long fire trail bash but pleasant enough. The new caches were found without difficulty - as was one dozing black snake - as we wound our way up to the top of Mt Gingera where we enjoyed spectacular 360-degreee views. Although it's heartbreaking to see the extent of the fire damage (particularly on the old snow gums) it's good to see there's some regeneration. The flowers were all out today, and even the stunted, windswept tree at the top survived!
On the long march back to the cars we stopped in at Pryor's Hut for a late lunch before the bumpy and dusty drive back down to civilisation (always hard to come back to after a day in the bush). A fantastic days with excellent company.

**This Cache**
A beautiful location early morning with the dew still on the long grasses. The first cache we passed that was lovely and quick to locate.
We did not recognize this location immediately with the long grasses post 2020 fires and now the heavy rains have had their impact. This area was once quite an open 'mowed' area previously. From todays photos the grasses are denser and taller.
See my photo attached to this log (Dec 2020 when we came to do 'Glorious Ginini' (GC93QF1)). It now looks like an overgrown track into the bush to nowhere. We have come up that way a good four or five times before but not since the fires. I’d hate to think what it’s like now further along this track! Thanks for the wonderful memories! TFTC Tankengine.
**Our Day**
With Thursday locked-in with other activities we did not give the four TE Gingera caches, that appeared late Wednesday afternoon, much thought. I saw this as an Autumn Adventure opportunity in one of my favourite locations in the ACT.
Role forward late yesterday (Thursday) afternoon!
'Mountainsbeyond' messaged asking if I would be interested in a very early morning hike. Much to his surprise, and mine, the caches were still 'FTF' available. My heart said 'YES' but my head said 'NO'! Who climbs Mt Gingera in the heat of the Summer with so many black snakes?
Clearly WE DO!
I messaged him straight back, 'YES'!
Very early this morning three of us headed for the Brindabella Road and then to the Mt Franklin Road locked-gate carpark. The road up has deteriorated a fair bit since we were here last December but it’s still good enough to get here in one piece albeit shaken and stirred.
It was cool and breezy as we started out. Before long we had the first cache in hand. It was a lovely location clearly an overgrown track now looked to be going somewhere mysterious into the bush. No time to investigate. We were on a FTF mission. Who else may be coming up behind us and not wanting to share the spoils.
The multi, well that was a little tricky! At WP1 GeoPartner2 had different views on one of the question/answers. As a pure maths/physics graduate there was only one answer for him. we argued the toss, and were eventually proved WRONG! LOL!
The weir wasn't really weird and it was another quick pickup with plenty of water flowing. A photo opportunity presented itself!. The Mt. Franklin Road to GZ is now rockier than ever. Still it is a well formed road but moving at a quick pace was more difficult/riskier for a fall. We needed to have this adventure completed by lunchtime to avoid the heat of the afternoon sun but had to reduce our pace a little.
The 2.4km trail hike to the top of Gingera (and to furthest cache) was a pleasure with so many native flowers on show. No bush bashing, no spiders and just one beautiful good sized black snake that crossed the path of the lead walker at the top of Mt Gingera. Surprise! Surprise!
Having made excellent time to the top we took photos and each went down memory lane regarding our previous multiple hikes to GZ. Yet another a quick and easy find in an iconic location. Yes, we photographed again that gorgeous Snowgum! Glad it survived the 2020 fires given the vast majority did not! Devastating in many areas up here.
We headed off to 'A long way to the top' with mountainsbeyond, then off to pick up the multi all while hiking at a great pace. We sat in the shaded grass at Pryor's Hut for lunch. We admired the fields of yellow native flowers, took lots of photos before the final sprint back to the carpark.
While tired from the journey we had just completed, we were thrilled with our 18km adventure, the memories we had just build upon and friendships we strengthened. Great to be back in this most gorgeous location with great company. Home late afternoon! Thanks for creating this adventure Tankengine!

I was with the CO and a group on an epic walk to find an old cache on Gingera. Logging after the cache has been found. TFTC Tankengine.
I was part of the group walking to Gingera summit so I was there when this was placed. This was my second time doing this walk. Its a bit of a rough drive to get to the trail head but its well worth the effort to get out here. Thanks Tankengine for placing this, hopefully it will encourage more to do this walk.
An enjoyable day out and hike after an invitation from Joolay. The "Namadgi Nomads" group enjoyed the hike and getting to know each other (for some of us new ones). Tankengine and injuryman were nice enough to place a few extra caches along the way, so an extra thanks to them.
