After staying overnight in Leigh we visited Goat Island Marine Reserve this morning before heading away from the area. Sent the answers for this cache to the C.O. Enjoyed a walk to pick up a couple of other caches too, just before the rain hit us! Picturesque spot to visit. #8096. TFTC.
On holiday up here, great place for a visit, walked up to the lookout, avoided the hundreds of school children snorkeling. Thanks
Spening a few days in the area and after collecting a fortuitous FTF in Leigh we decided to head to goat island for the first time in many years. Thankfully the rain held off and being a week day it was lovely and peaceful. Got the required info and then we decided to walk the coast and collect a few more caches. Thanks for setting up this virtual.
With the forecast for Friday being good and Saturday being rubbish, I decided to head out to Matakana today to make the most of the sunshine and to do some more caching in the area. Drove as far as Goat Island and completed this virtual cache while here. Answers sent to CO and picture of my GPSr at GZ attached. I've never snorkeled or kayaked here... its something I must do one day. TFTC!
Just putting a write not here to keep my finds in order. I have done the requirements for the virtual but not sent the email yet. I'm trying to catch up on last weekends logging. When I've sent the info I'll edit this and change it to a found it log. Thanks for the virtual
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit & doing the things that we want to do we were staying in the Warkworth area & decided we should go for a bit of a drive & grab some caches while out & about stopped in here at the Goat Island Reserve this answers for this cache were easily found & have been messaged to the Cache Owner pleased to add a 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN except a photos:LN except footprints in the sand, but theyll be gone with the next high-tide:no L to S #5,100 for Us!
We had family visiting from the Netherlands. One of them is a dive master so today they went for a dive in Matheson Bay Reserve. What a beautiful summers day it was! We rounded it off with a few caches, this was absolutely the best! FP for location and interesting questions to solve. Thank you for the virtualCache!
Thanks to the Log owner for permission to log. Visited Goat Island with my NZ children who are regular divers and spent the day snorkeling (first for me) in this ideal location.T4TC
Such an amazing place. Wish we had been here earlier in the day so we could have snorkeled!
Out for a day trip while staying at Orewa. Raining in the morning but still managed to see some of the sights.
#101 TFTC we did snorkel despite the very cold water the sun was shining so we toughed it out and were rewarded with some beautiful fish.
Goat island is a regular pilgrimage for our family but events over the past few years have prevented us from visiting. Megan is home from London for a long overdue visit and this was on the must do list. Friday afternoon is a quiet time to come and though it was a bit murky for snorkelling we loved our time here. Thanks for this virtual and co has approved answers and permission to log. Thanks
We were both at Auckland University when Goat Island Marine Reserve was established in 1975, and can remember the environmental excitement of the times. Mark spent a week at the research centre while doing some marine biology papers with Professor Morton. We have not been back for quite a few years until our recent visit. The place is certainly popular, with many groups exploring the shoreline etc. Answers have been sent to the CO. Thanks.
On our way to Mangawhai, we took a detour to Goat Island. Walked around there a little while. Nice with a virtual. Lots of interesting information.
Called in at the wonderful place along with the extended muggle kiwi family. While the others when for a swim ( 2 of the boys across to the Island) I just admired the shore line and the crystal clear waters while gathering the information,.
Thanks for giving me a reasons to explore this location.

Was in the area today to walk the coast to the northern marine reserve boundary & back. Tide & wind direction was perfect.
Arrived early so gathered all the info for this cache before setting off along the beach to do a lot of boulder hopping. Info sent to CO. A terrific area. Carpark had 3 other cars in it when i returned, so it was an enjoyable outing without any crowds. TFTC

Thanks for this Virtual cache, pazza2. I was pleased to drive out here today to this lovely spot, where I first learnt to snorkel several decades ago.
Peaceful here on a weekday.

A few weeks ago I asked rusty where she wanted to have her 8000th cache to land on. I knew it was coming up soon. She suggested among other caches Mnt Manaia in Whangarei. My ears pricked up… yes! That’s where we should go. Mnt Manaia was supposed to be the place my 4000th cache was meant to be back in 2016. But on the day, the track was under maintenance and so we had to plan somewhere else.
So once that plan was on the go, the ball really started rolling, supernanny suggested a weekend away there too, so I asked Nicholas (Riser5 master of the CITO) if he wanted to organise a CITO for us and we’d come up and join him. Once he had a definite date, I booked myself in for 2 nights, then Helen and Juliette did, then Sharon. Rex wasn’t able to make it.
So I saw this virtual come out as FTF'ers do...lol. But can't remember why I didn't come up to claim it. Must have been busy doing something... actually I think it was the fuel being extremely expensive and I decided against it.
So it was a beautiful morning, sun shining big time. I parked in the No Parking zone as you do and wandered across to the perplexing object. That is so bizarre! I took some fotos in various positions then moved across to the other WP. (Hang on... just refilling my glass with some chard while writing this) OK, back again.... where was I? OK, now I'm rotating spindle thingies... the things we do while caching...lol. Took a pile of fotos just to amuse the C.O for later. Righto... have I done everything? Think so... better send some info off then! Thanks Ruth for the cache.

A plan was made for the Westie girls to doing some caching up this way including this newish Virtual.
We enjoyed working out the answers and Merlot58 sent them in on behalf of us all.
Many thanks Pazza.

A decision was made for the Westie ladies to do a day trip to Leigh and Goat Island. I’m surprised this virtual was still waiting to be found as it’s such a beautiful place to visit. Weather conditions were perfect though the tide was out so there were only a couple of hardy snorkellers braving the cold water. So a joint {FTF} was made after we visited the waypoints and got our answers. I have many happy childhood memories here and also did my dive certification test here too. FP from me
A plan was made with 3 other Westie ladies (Merlot, Nette and Supernannny) to head out to Goat Island as the weather was amazing - a perfect sunny and mild Autumnal day, just perfect for a road trip. We had no problem with parking today, as the newly upgraded carpark only had a coupe of cars in it when we arrived. We made our way to the various waypoints and had no problems collecting the information here - really enjoy these Virtual caches in which you learn about the surrounding area.
Thanks for bringing us back here as it brings back many memories from our teenage years snorkeling and diving at Goat Island.
Joint {FTF} with Merlot, Nette and S/N
