In the grounds on our second day. ( there is no need to leave the track) is a very important hint. Or you could spend a lot of time turning over rocks. I found this one quite easily when I followed the track. TFTC
8.1 World travelers adventure log.Out and about exploring the world with Nildran on this epic adventure! Thanks for adding to our memories and letting us explore your favorite spots all over the world! It continues to be a wild ride!TFTC SL If you find yourself at a local pub during trivia night, and the category is:'States shaped like a Mitten'here is some information that may help you win that round:Michigan trivia 8.19. Your Hand's Practically A Map Of Your New Home StateIts pretty easy to travel around Michigan when you think about it. The "thumb" is the east side, Detroit sits south, and the fingers up top are where Traverse City and Mackinac Island point UP. Makes sense, right? (The UP sort of looks like a bird trying to fly away).10. Rainfall Smells Like Rotten BeerSeriously, thats what itll remind you of. Some say it's the sign of one of Michigan's freakish thunderstorms. Others think it just smells. When the rain falls and the clouds get a little thicker, you'll smell it, too.11. How to Spot Your Car Under Eight Feet of SnowYou will develop your own internal radar for your car, guaranteed. When that lake effect snow piles on youll come to know which hill is actually your vehicle. It's kind of like Michigan magic.12. Venison Is the Best Meat You'll Ever TasteDeer season is big in Michigan, so don't be surprised if you start getting a hankering for good ol' fashioned venison. If youve never had it, youll get hooked fast.13. "Mackinac" and "Mackinaw Actually Sound the SameSome say "Mack-in-ack," and others say "Mack-in-awe." In reality the only "Mackinac" is the Mackinac Bridge, which many call the "Big Mac. Mackinac Island, Fort Mackinac, Mackinac Straits, and Mackinaw City, however, are all pronounced with an "awe" at the end. Arent you glad I told you?14. It'll Take Several Years To Learn To Play EuchreThis game might just be better than poker. At first you'll think you're on a different planet as you sit with Michiganders for a friendly game of Euchre, but give yourself a few years and you just might get the gist of at least a bit of this game.15. The S.S. Badger Isn't Just a Transport Across Lake MichiganIf you just want a quick ride across the lake, take Muskegon's Lake Express. If you want an adventure, that's what Ludington's S.S. Badger is for. There's a movie theater, a small casino, a bar, and satellite television.
Honestly thank you for putting this one here bex09 and I were doing the same as fellow finders before us taking advantage of the free entry and finding these today , the log book is almost full and we will be leaving a extra one for back up and also leaving some swag .
Made good use of the free entry period whilst in the area, to quickly nab this cache in between the showers. A nice quick find at GZ thx to the good coordinates TFTC
There was a free open day at the treaty grounds today, so I took the opportunity to grab this cache and the other located on site. I also had a good look around the new museum. I managed to arrive just as the doors were opening and managed to have the two spots all to myself, and the first part of the museum as well. When I finally left just after 10, the carpark was full and the overflow was filling fast. The people were pouring in the gates by then so I was very glad to leave them to it. TFTC.
it would be nice if the coordinates were a bit more correct, so that you didn't naturally go directly off the track at first to get to GZ. Very odd 'nests'. TFTC
So exciting to learn of a nesting place of the koror. Cache was a nice quick find and is in good condition
On a holiday up in the Bay of Islands of the winterless north. What a busy time it was with all the historical sites to explore and their significance to discover. It is no wonder that by the end of the day, we were getting back to our accommodation and just blobbing after a good dinner. Of course, you cannot go anywhere other than your home town and not do some caching while you are there.Today we turned our focus on Waitangi and all of the history around there. The tour and cultural performance that is a part of the ticket price for getting into the treaty grounds is well worth it. Of course, if you are in the treaty grounds, you just have to grab the few caches that have been planted here. After we had finished our guided tour, there was an hour to kill before the cultural performance started. So, we sat down under the Pohutukawa trees and had our lunch. Then while the others were just sitting there and contemplating what to do while they waited, Mr. Kiwi headed off in search of this cache. A good walk across the treaty grounds lawn and down to the little bay where the little blue penguin sometimes visit. As he was walking along, something caught his eye as he neared GZ. Could this be? Was it the cache already? A quick rummage around and the cache was indeed uncovered. Well, that was easy. So, the log was signed and the cache replaced as it was found.TFTC
Came back to the treaty grounds for some ANZAC day ceremonies and figured we'd walk around the grounds a bit before they started. A nice easy find on the walk.
We went to the Anzac ceremony this evening and had just enough time to find the cache beforehand. All in good shape. TFTC
#2424 (Tontako Team) Kia Ora from Spain! We found this cache during our New Zealand / Aotearoa holidays. We didnt find it until korora came and helped us TFTC
With a tour but to time to come over and look for the penguins and the cache. Thanks
We went on a 5-week road trip trough New Zealand. We saw and experienced an incredible amount in this beautiful country. Of course, we didn't miss out on geocaching either.
I took the opportunity of coming to Waitangi Day for free...which is full on today with thousands of people everywhere. The cache was as you said on the track. A quick find and explored this area. Thankful for the shady trees.
Have wanted this cache previously but was visiting with groups who had to Jericho timeframes. Happy to be here in a sunny Waitangi weekend and get it before the next pwhiri.
Beautiful place, here for the Waitangi Day commemorations. Found with IndianaJill while waiting for the Govt Powhiri to take place.
A really great experience on the Treaty grounds today, topped off with a cache for me. Im glad the description stated to not leave the path as I thought the coords were pointing there. As it was, the cache was right there! Quick sign and a rush back to the rest of the whnau. Thanks for the koror-cache and got all your other caches in the area that have added to my fantastic trip up north. Kia ora!
We didnt realise blue penguins came this far north, but we didnt see any. We enjoyed our visit to the treaty ground and picked this up to mark the spot. TFTC
Visiting here from the United States after the show in the community house, I came down for the quick grab.
Using the "we may not be back this way again anytime soon" theory, we had to walk around the grounds & log this one too - no penguins on display today though. TFTC
Found while visiting the grounds. No penguins in middle of the day. TNLNSL, TFTC.
I'm visiting New Zealand for a tour around the country . First I spent 2 weeks in Auckland. Now I'm touring the North Island. While enjoying the sightseeing I also visit some caches. This is one of them. Thank you for showing me the place and thank you for the cache . Greetings from Switzerland .
Unfortunately the Pinguins were not here today.

Very sad - no penguin at all But the cache could be found quickly. Thanks! Nice bay.
1882. As I normally visit Waitangi as part of a guided school trip, this cache has always been so close by and yet so far away. Great to finally get a smile near these historic grounds. TFT(kororā)C.
Pity pity pity I came too late in the morning, was hoping to get a glimpse at the penguins when they wiggle out to go fishing

After a morning of checking out the treaty grounds, CaliKiwi84 wanted to check out the museum. Not being in a museum mood myself, I went hunting for caches. Didn’t see any penguins, though.

I've been wanting this cache for ages. Having grown up with free access to these grounds and knowing the land was given by the Bledisloe family for New Zealanders to enjoy I object to the admission fee. If Te Papa is free then why isn't this important site free too?
There was once a "Friend of Waitangi" scheme which I belonged to but they've changed that system now as well. I'd never use it so I couldn't justify the annual fee.
With today being Waitangi Day there was free access I took my chance and jostled the crowds to get over the bridge. This hide was again off the main tracks so devoid of muggles. I initially found the penguin houses but not the cache. Then I read the description properly and it said 'no need to leave the path'. Re-thought it and then found it quickly, TFTC

Tftc. No pen but got a photo instead... lovely place. Didn't see the little blues but found their homes
Spotted a rock that made the hiding spot obvious, and the cache was quickly in hand. Nice spot to see the water and area. Thanks!
TaurusSix and I are in New Zealand for a three weeks holiday. We love New Zealand and have had lots of wonderful experiences here previously. This time we have decided to focus our attention on three destinations for one week each, all in the North Island. The Coromandel Peninsula, Waiheke Island and The Bay of Isles. We are very mindful of not focusing all our attention of the holiday on geocaching, however it will still play an important part. We are deliberately focusing on caches that involve some walking, great views, interesting attractions , history and general points of interest. And this will all happen in between exploring, swimming , walking, doing touristy things and relaxing .

Day 15 - Of our New Zealand trip and we are here in the beautiful Bay of Isles. Weather not so crash hot though. Had a lovely stroll in Paihia this morning collecting one traditional cache and an Adventure Lab in between brunch and shopping and before heading to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Wow we spent an five amazing hours there soaking up all the history and the significance of the place. Saw an excellent cultural show and in between all that managed to pick up two more traditional caches on the edge of the grounds.

This is our third cache find of the day along with a nearbyAdventure Lab. We thought we could squeeze in one more cache while waiting for the Cultural Show to start, so a quick and pleasant stroll to this gz was in order. The penguins must have all been sleeping as we did not see any sign of them. Luckily we spotted the cache though quite quickly. Thanks for the cache Fullofun

This geocacher is either a very healthy person or just loves their supplement bottles. A fantastic walk to areas of the treaty grounds I’ve never seen before. Cute hide!
Last stop today was the chance for Whangarei District Council Elected members to visit the Treaty Grounds.
While here I managed to find a few mins to get this cache.

Didn't find any penguins, but I did find some mud! Thanks for the cache and hopefully I didn't drip mud all over it lol.
The other Waitangi cache. Both were in quiet spots today, so no issues here.

Day 7 of our two-week road trip through Northland, and today it was Waitangi and Kerikeri.
We had a great morning at Waitangi.
We arrived just in time for the guided tour, which was very fortunate.
Our guide was informed and entertaining, and posed many points to ponder in this special place.
This morphed nicely into a cultural show that was also polished and funny, the first time I have experienced anything like this in my homeland.
This is my third time to these grounds, but the first time I have experienced anything like this. Another addition for me was the great Te Rau Aroha museum that opened just 2 years ago.
For RG72, it was her first time here and she enjoyed all of it.
Later in the afternoon we popped out to Kerikeri to take in the awesome space around the Stone Store, the Reserve Basin.
There are some great old buildings out here, a pa, a church and some nice walks as well as waterfalls. Some retail therapy after that, and we have had a good day.
Thanks all COs.

Dive bombed by magpies as we walked across from the flagpole!! Cheeky birds! Cache quickly located, although the recycled log book did fool us at first. Tftc
Lunchbreak stroll, good description, found in the place described.Checked out the cool penguin habitats nearby.

FTF. There was foreign matter that gave it away. Well I don't think I've walked down to this area before on my many visits to the Treaty Grounds. On the way I stopped to spare a thought for our late Queen while standing by the Pohutukawa she planted in 1953. Floral tribute laying at its base.
