Another cache along the motorway which has been bugging me due to so close yet so far. I debated about wading across, but the distance wasnt that much closer, so this ended up as an excuse to leave the snowmobile at the gate and get some steps in. I appreciated the WPs, and mentioning gravel path important to some of us Quick find; looks like Carney5124 forgot their pen. Nice seeing the plantings & hearing the birds

Today is the day. It happens only once every four years, for just twenty four hours, we get the opportunity to log Geocaches on a day like no other. It's the Quadrennial solar rotation adjustment day for 2024, where we leap forward to get our orbit back into alignment! Last Leap Day back in 2020, I didn't really understand the significance of caches logged on such a day. Since then, I have become much more familiar with some of the statistics, badges, and add-ons that are uniquely available on such a day. This year, I am putting in a bit more effort. My day started out with a quick midnight trip up to Kapiti to sign the log of a specific cache type up there, the last of it's kind that I have available to me in the region (or so I thought). Then, after a much shorter sleep than I am used to, and since I had to work the day away, I was of to a 9:00am "doctors appointment". Unfortunately there were no doctors at the event, but there were a bunch of Geocachers providing the usual chatter and laughter. After that, the mundane requirement of a days work, and then the real fun began. As I was passing by here today, and a little ahead of schedule, I decided to stop for this one that I have been meaning to find since publication but just never remembered to stop in the right place. Today I did, and the cache was found safe and well.---Thanks to TwigNZ for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

Our last day in Wellington before we head back to Aus tomorrow. We only just discovered this app yesterday and are loving it. We don't have a pen on us, though, unfortunately. This was so much fun, so thank you

I enjoyed a pleasant stroll along the river trail from Silverstream bridge. A speedy turnaround at GZ after a quick find in the first location I checked. TFTC for the cache and a reason to get some exercise.

Found while walking from totara park. All good here, though I was at the end of my hike and nearly keeling over at that point, so forgive my messy logging. Tftc!!

Found while on bike ride up from Melling. TFTC

21-May-23
I was on a bike ride up one side of the river and back down the other. This was my first stop of the morning. The ground was so wet from yesterday's continuous rain even stepping down from the path was treacherously slippery. When I found GZ it didn't take too long to track down the camouflaged container - even though I've seen a reasonable number of these they never fail to make me smile. TFTC.

Heading back south after a mini adventure in Whiteman's Valley and took a punt as to how close I could drive up to GZ - the last time I was here I was able to make it a park and grab on a previous cache in the area (and also the earthcache). Turns out it was as Bruce said, about 900m away. Oh well, time for a walk. Reached GZ and after inspecting an item spotted the cache itself - it is blending in quite well. Signed and replaced and headed back, but not before taking another look at the faultline. All good here, and TFTC.

I decided an after work visit to this site was in order as the 800 metre each way walk was good for me and get me over my daily step target. The weather was very pleasant and I enjoyed the stroll. On my way, I had some ideas about cache location and cache type. I was wrong on the first count but correct on the second. The spot is nicely chosen. I have seen these containers used in places where it really doesn't work but this would have to be up there with the best of such placements.

Seems to be the season for recycling cache locations, my last few finds including this one have all been new ones in locations in areas where a previous cache has been archived.

Nice place to revisit.

I walked round from Silverstream railway station, an easy stroll in nice weather.

The hint was helpful, at first I headed to the wrong alternative but soon eliminated that as a possibility.

Once in the correct location a quick find. Cache blends in well but as I have seen quite a few of this type it didn't take me long to spot, it might be a little harder for someone not so familiar with these.

TFTC.

I have no recollection of this cache being published and I was surprised to see this on the map while just looking around. I figured this would be an ideal cache to walk to to after work one spring evening but as that kept failing to happen I came here on Sunday afternoon after already finding some caches in Wellington earlier in the day. With the weather being nice I couldn't bring myself to stay at home doing indoor things.

I parked in the carpark by the Silverstream bridge which, by the time you walk over the bridge, is the exact same distance to GZ from the "recommended" parking. With a walk of just 15 minutes or so I arrived at GZ and didn't leave for quite some time. The GPS was very insistent on a particular place and given it was well and truly settled during the time I was there I had no reason not to believe it. I was looking for one of those super-evil Twig hides and after a while I decided to look in one last place about 5 metres away - just in case - before admitting defeat. The cache was right there. And exactly the type of hide I had being looking for but not as evil as it could have been. Why I didn't look there earlier is one of those eternal mysteries of cache searching.

A great little Sunday afternoon diversion. TFTC.

Out and about this morning with my bike in the back of the vehicle. Parked at Manor Park and rode here, an enjoyable ride over a bit of the Hutt River Trail that I hadn't been on before. And a nice new cycleway past the golf course too. Good accurate coordinates ensured a very fast find, I would recognise one of this type of hide anywhere! Signed log, TFTC.

I had just finished school for the day, had a bite to eat,m when my phone went DING! I know that sound! Ah a new cache... 8km away. That might be worth it. Got out the shoes and the bike and headed off.
Alas its not as fast going as I would like - I had cycled out in the rain recently and all the oil has washed off my chain. Cycling was a bit harder than normal. I get to the golf course and hello... There is what looks like a cycleway here! That wasn't here when I was last here, nearly two years ago! So a nice cycle path now exists between the golf course and the highway. At the end of the course it dives into a bit of māhoe forest - very pretty. Hang on... Yep, no cache. I must do something about that. From there the last kilometre of so to the cache was most squirly. The back wheel kept sliding all over the place, the front wheel wobbling wildly as I tried to main balance and yet cycle at something reasonably above a walking pace. It looks like this part of the path does not get a lot of use, the gravel had not bedded in and was very loose across the surface. And my skinny road tyres were not keen on it.
Anyway I get to GZ and spot the cache almost immediately. It blends in so well with the surroundings that I was most impressed that I did spot it so quickly. Right, time for a sit down. And a rest. And take off a layer, because I am sweating like mad.
Oh no!! My pen won't write! I tried scribbling on some rock. Nada. Okay, what are my options? Go home and come back tomorrow. And give up on the FTF? Not likely. Flag down a car? Find some gorse or blackberry and use the the ink of last resort? Might be hard here - gorse and blackberry seem to be in short supply. Break open the pen? Hang on - it's not writing because the ink has dried around the nib, right? What if I give it a soak in the river? So down to the river side, and I dipped the pen in and tried to write on my hand. Holy heck! It works! Dipped the pen in again for good measure and went back up the bank. Signed the empty log and can now claim the [FTF].
Put my polar fleece back on (which now feels cold and clammy. Ick.) Picked up the bike and headed back. At one point took a wrong turn and accidentally followed a marked cycle trail and ended up on the highway. Oh well. Nice smooth travelling, no squirly stones.
Got home. Oiled the chain. Wrote up this log. Time for a shower now!
