Arrgh me hearties. Nothing better than a pirates treasure for sure.
This chest has been awaiting a visit from some worthy buccaneers for many a year.
Still where the Captain left it all those years ago.
We'll be plundering this lot! Thanks Biggles Bear.

When an event early next year was announced, a plot was hatched.

And this morning, we put that plan in action.

A beautiful day greeted us as n0w0rries and I launched our trusty vessels from the far shore, and we enjoyed a lap around the island before landing.

We explored the island, picking up clues that might help us, replaced a missing cache for a friend, then took a wee break before getting a set of numbers that seemed to make sense.

And that they did.

And good coordinates led to uncovering the treasure in almost no time.

Thanks, Biggles Bear. Another excellent early hide.

Watch this space.

Through some stalking by my good caching buddy SirJ-Oz, I have discovered I have preformed a most heinous caching faux pas!! I have forgotten to log some caches that I found ages ago.... I found this cache nearly a year ago on a very pleasant afternoon of caching and paddling with SirJ-Oz and since then I have had a number of caching milestones that I really don't want to bump out of order by logging this find with it's true date of the 31/3/2015, so I am logging it today....

Thanks for the cache Biggle Bear, and many many apologises for this logging mess.

There's been a lot of new work done here I think it's all changed found first plaque but the rest is gone

Find #1346

I've been a bit tardy in getting my logs in this week so was very surprised to see this old one archived in the time between finding and getting around to logging it. I found the cache on Tuesday 18th August 2015 at around 11am and I can confirm all WPs and the final cache were in place that day.

I had a loan of kayak for a few weeks so I braved the cold and launched to Treasure Island to see if I could knock this one (and the other island cache) off. This had long taunted me as I rode my bike past so near but yet so far. The landing was tougher than the launch as I had to lift myself from kayak to pontoon and my forearms and knees took the brunt of the bird droppings on the pontoon surface (something I only truly noticed by smell when I got back in the car later!).

Having made it to Treasure Island I toured the local sights and was able to pick up the required information. This took a bit of toing and froing but it is certainly all there. I headed to my calculated GZ (with not 100% confidence) but was rewarded with a quick find. I contently gazed across the water in contemplation before wondering if I could get back to the mainland without falling in the drink in front of the cafe patrons.

Don't worry me hearties all was well and dry feet were maintained! Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited a trackable. I'll be very sad if this great old cache is no more but the only consolation will be that I was the last finder. Thanks for an excellent fun multi Biggles Bear that provided a significant challenge but did not beat me. I'll give this a favourite point in the hope that it can be saved.

Out tonight for some night caching / yakking with Tritonz and we had our sights set on GZ, without knowing it was this cache...
A few months back we completed an epic nearby cache that is now archived. The CO is known for putting clues and hints in strange places, so naturally I checked the back of the logbook. Located at the back was an image and some sets of coords. Hmmm perhaps something cryptic for solving an unsolved puzzle. I ran into the CO and showed him the picture of his drawing - he confirmed that means something and there IS something at that location. Eagerly we made a plan and made our way to the location months later. To our surprise we made the find and read the log....hmmm no secrets here...archived cache? No T5s nearby.... after some searching we found it was an active multi - and that the scribblings were just the CO solving the cache himself and nothing more. Ahwell. Thanks for the unexpected find Smile

Jacko83 and one half of The_Tritonz were out on Melboure on a kayaking trip and had previously found the coordinates and another cache log book and went to check them out and low and behold it was the end for this multi, it sure saved us a lot of work but are still keen on working it out the right way in the near future.
Thanks Biggles Bear for the cache.

Found @9:05AM 25/4/15
Joined in on the CITO event organised for early this morning and deployed tje kayaks to paddle over to the island. The cold and drizzly conditions enabled us to ne muggle free as we explored the island and discovered the treasure. Very interesting to learn about the history of this island that I had never visited until today. Thanks for bringing me here!

ANZAC Day, early start for the dawn ceremony in Ringwood and then into Herring Island for a CITO event and a little bit of love and tender care to the Yarra banks.
Nice quick find today in the company of several other event goers.
Thanks for placing this cache Biggles Bear

While attending a CITO event this morning this was one cache that myself and a few other cachers were able to complete.Big Grin A nice spot for a cache too. The weather today didn't look great but during the event the rain held off with only some light drizzle at times. Took GC coin which was in the cache so to keep it moving,
Arrrrr, many thanks for the treasure Biggles Bear

I had never been on this Treasure Island until today, but with a CITO arranged nearby the kayaks were hauled out and we convened on the island early in the day. After discussing the day's strategies we explored a little wider and discovered all the Xs on Captain Flint's map. The cloudy and rainy day meant there were no buccaneers around to slow us down with some swashbucklin', so we soon made our way to where X marked the spot and found the booty.
Thanks Biggles Bear for the exploration of the island.

Find #1810. Found @ 15:42 with LouiseAnn.

Even though I've mentioned that I wanted to try for this cache many times, a chance comment about this cache a few days ago gave rise to a possible plan.

LouiseAnn was taking the afternoon off work and I was able to swing a bit of last minute leave. We met up on the northern shore and launched the kayaks that LouiseAnn had brought along.

After a leisurely paddle around the island, we decided to land just near the northern jetty. It was quite bizarre, because on our circumnavigation tour we spotted a couple sitting by the river that were the doppelgangers of none other than BigglesBear. They called out to us, and we approached the bank - but it soon became apparent that they were just being friendly and had no idea what we were doing.

After getting ashore and making sure that our kayaks were not going to float away, we wandered around inspecting the various artworks and gathering clues until we had all the necessary numbers.

A little miscalculation gave us a highly improbable location, but after rechecking, a more suitable coordinate popped out. We soon arrived at GZ and LouiseAnn made the find.

Took trackable, left another trackable that wanted to marooned on a desert island, signed log and visited some other trackables.
Thanks for the cache Biggles Bear. It was a great day for a paddle and cache.

Arrrr. the sea was angry this day my friends, when we set off from Bristol aboard the Hispaniola on a wet summer's afternoon. We merry band of scurvy dogs (yours truly, geowife & geokids x 2) made landfall when the sun was well o'er the yardarm (about 3pm), and proceeded to ye olde search. Clues were found at the Stockade (tho' it be full of landlubber muggles), spy glass hill (though some confusion be had with the length of ye pirates name - be it surname or whole name? Answer - whole name!), Ben Gunn's cave and ye hidden coracle. What pirate worth their salt builds a boat out of granite?
The ancient pirates puzzle was finally solved, paths backtracked, and lo! Ye olde treasure box was unearthed! But Alas! The pirate's cache had already been raided by ye scurvy-ridden Barbary sea-dogs (or simply other inconsiderate cachers), and 'twas EMPTY, save for ye olde logbook. Nary a piece of eight, a nor a doubloon, nor even the advertised Trackable was in evidence. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth was there (particularly the eldest geoson who was upset at the lack of swag)
So not wishing to dilly dally at this spot well known to ragamuffin corsairs, the logbook was quickly signed and the cache restocked with lots of goodies from my swag kit, including a rare Geocoin which has voyaged from the Americas...
...Aye be thankin' ye for this cache, which I've been wantin' to do fer awhiles now...

Oops it seems we forgot to log this cache and so here is our log.
In the company of the drovers, team crackers and micaparamedic we ventured out to finish this cache.
we paid the ferryman and walked to path to the treasure and after a short here or there the bounty was
found and logged.
Our sincere thanks to Biggles Bear for the cache which took us 12 years to complete and thirteen to log.

A great days caching with many differing experiences, some where I walked right to the cache and others where I needed to hunt around a bit. As usual I have enjoyed the various challenges set by the CO's and the fact that I get to cache with friends and am outside in the great outdoors.

Many thanks Biggles Bear for placing this cache Cool.

Arrr...We have been sailing past the island for many a year but either tide or time was agin us. Today we assembled a rag tag crew of mercenaries and land lubbers alike. We boarded the Hispaniola and although the crew wanted to hijack it and keelhaul the captain to prevent attracting Captain Flint' crews' attention we parted with the required gold doubloons. We disembarked, leaving the Hispaniola captain with orders to rendezvous with us later. We continued around ye island picking up the necessary clues to find this bounty. Once this was done we plotted a course all the time remaining vigilant for constabulary in disguise. Once in the vicinity of the treasure we soon had the chest in hand as it was sitting in the open. We carefully opened it to see if it had already been pillaged and were glad to find the bounty intact. After marking our X on the log we took what we could carry and re hid the chest so no land lubbers would discover it before we return.

Thank ye Biggles of the Bear for the adventure. We hope the wind always fills your sails.

With 4 teams in 2 vehicles, we headed off for a great day of caching, and lots of food stops.
The other 3 teams being - Team Crackers, The Coffee's & micaparamedic.
We spent most of the day in the western suburbs of Melbourne, as we planned to do Crackerjack &
Wyndham Lights. which are only available for a short time each year.
Some of the caches were signed as MCCD.

We arrived at the given co-ords, and gathered the required information.
Paid our passage, to continue our adventure, while enjoying the walk around the island taking photos.
A quick find at GZ, then a short walk back to the wharf.
Many thanks for placing this cache, Biggles Bear, for us and others to find.

We made our own way across the murky waters and came ashore at the north landing. Being winter the Island was deserted of all muggles and we were able to roam free exploring the mysteries hidden here. I remember as a kid passing by on the freeway and dreaming of one day exploring that funny little island in the middle of the city. Well the day finally came, a boyhood dream fulfilled! Thanks Biggles Bear for an a great tour of this mysterious island.

Arrgghhh mateys!

We be makin this plunder wayyyy
harder than need be. Bein pirates and
all and not so keen at spellin' we
neglected to include the fair Aussie artist
Lasses first name. Then, we realised there
really is a treasure map if you know
where to look. And not being keen
on countin' either we walked many
Times around the gunwale. But then
Our pirate geosenses kicked in and we found
Ye olde cache!

Thanks very much captain Biggles Bear for a
Great day on the Island. TFTH !

Find 1067 at 11:59. I was out caching with Burge today on one of our rare daytime caching runs. We decided to head to some of the caches that have been on our maps for a while. All up we found 6 today and this was our second find for the day.

We were taking advantage of the punt service today and decided to head out to Herring Island to grab the couple of caches in the area. We ended up having to do a couple of laps of the island to gather all the clues for this one as we weren't very prepared. It was a nice day though so we were happy to enjoy the fresh air. Once we had pieced everything together, the hide was easily located and we headed back to the nearby cafe for lunch.

Thanks for the cache, Biggles Bear!

Caching on this hot day today with Glanville Girls, beckster22 and Tomstache, we got the necessary clues after catching the punt over. We made the find, signed the log and replaced. There was a great basket weave exhibition on display too. This trip had been a while in the planning, thanks for a great experience Biggles Bear.

A date was set several weeks ago with caching friends to pick up the two Herring Island Caches. Little did we know at the time it would turn out to be one of the hottest days of the year. Nevertheless McLookers, Beckster 22, Tomstache and ourselves caught the punt over to the island. We made our way to each of the 'landmarks', collected the required info and made the find. Thanks for bringing us to this interesting place that we'd never been to before.

Headed out today with the kayak since it was nice and warm for a quick 40m paddle each way to grab the 2 caches on this island.
Collected the clues for all but one waypoint which was surrounded by muggles which I'm not sure how they got there. Anyway, managed to work out the final location without this clue and it ended up being about 10m from where we left our kayak which was handy for the trip back across to the mainland. TFTC Biggles Bear, excellent stuff. A favourite for me.

A long time on the radar, it was time for the island caches to be collected. Many people questioned and laughed at our method. 2 men 1 kayak and 35 metres if rope. With rope tied to the back of the kayak, Spiffy- went across first then I pulled the kayak back and joined him. A little circle work to find the necessary items but we soon had the cache - and it was only 20 metres from where we had stashed the kayak! TFTC

Trying to catch up finds from months ago, apologies for the belated log.

2nd found in the company of lochb with Alansee onlooking.
We walked all over the island collecting the answers to be able to locate the final.
Near GZ we found a mobile phone, a guy had lost it the week before accoring to the punt guy.

Thanks Biggles Bear for this cache.

Found in the company of PrincessDiala and Alansee. What a great island! Glad we didn't give up when the punt wasn't there earlier this morning. It came at 11 am. TFTC, Biggles Bear. We found a phone near GZ, which PrincessDiala handed to the punt guy.

Find # 384 logged at GZ at 3:23pm. Got the new yak out again for a paddle in the Yarra on a Wednesday arvo. Unfortunately, low water had me up to my knees in mud at Bristol. Then a gale had me struggling to keep myself righted. After cruising around for a while, greed got the better of me and onto Treasure Island I climbed. I found all the clues without meeting any nefarious trouble-makers. But then pirate madness set in and I became blind near the treasure and had to PAF to uncover it from a surprising approach. T4TC Biggles Bear!

Just a note to visit my new Travel Pirate Geocoin Smile

19-Oct-12
I visited yesterday evening to see how things looked and to plan my crossing, but Flint's boats were all around barred my way so came back to try again at the crack of dawn today. This time the coast was clear but as I was boarding my vessel another crew pulled up at dock, but their cap'n shouted an order and they made way for me (and soon moved on anyhow). I crossed and pulled my boat up on the dilapidated dock on t'other side, stashing it into the undergrowth to camouflage it and made my way to X on the map. The chest had been disturbed and was lid-down but all was safe and dry within. Arrr! 306 Pieces of unloved treasure was mine for the takin' Smile TFTC - pity it wasn't a T5 for needing a vessel, but I guess the land-lubbers have the punt option...

After sitting and staring at this cache for so long I decided to take the kayak down to the Wesley College boat ramp and have a short paddle across to the island to pick this one up. As soon as I stepped off the ramp, I found myself in knee deep smelly mud. Oh well it's all part of the game. After a short paddle I was standing on the other side and soon thereafter I had all the clues for the final GZ and was signing the log. Thanks Biggles Bear.

02-Dec-11
I grabbed the clues for this a while back and was waiting for a nice afternoon to head to the island and grab it. Today we had our department christmas BBQ on the Island, but I didn't have my cache notes book with me. Also, we caught the boat from the aquarium and I couldn't get to the Yarra bank to get the clues again.

I called in a favour with Iamapom and asked if he had the co-ordinates handy. He didn't, but he described where the cache was and I had it soon after. Thanks Biggles Bear and Iamapom.

I attended the Friendly Floatees at Night cache event on the island, and joined a group who went off in search of the two caches on the island. I thought this cache had been archived many years ago, (and I did it over eight and a half years ago), so it was only when we visited the last waypoint that it suddenly dawned on me that this was the same cache that I gained the FTF on so long ago. I was there at the finding of the cache (in its new position) but declined to sign my name as I had already done it.

Now, at home, I realise that I could have signed it for a smiley, as the owners invited previous finders to look again and log it.

However, due to the kindness of the owners and their trust that I was actually there, they have allowed me to log it again without my name in the book.

Thanks again to Biggles Bear for the cache, and for allowing me to log again...

Arrived at the Friendly floaties night event slightly late and found everyone at the event searching for this cache, didn’t take long to catch up to the Mob and had a very amusing time working around to GZ. Eventually scurvie sea dog Oaky clamed the cache as the motley crew of pirate/cachers were looking elsewhere

While attending Friendly floaties night event, the group went off in search of this treasure and along the way finding the clues to lead us there.
It was a great cache to find in a group and at night.
Thanks to Biggles Bear for this cache and to º (Phillipp) for replacing it and getting it up and running again.

This multi cache has to be the easiest multi I have ever done as when I arived at the frendliys floaties I wa meet by Phillipp and Spladem and Spladem said do you want to come and find Flints Treasure I know where gz is so off we went and once at gz we both where looking round as the mobb of geoers came over the hill and the cache was soon found we all stood round and signed log I also droped a travel bug in thanks Biggles Bear for this cache

Came down for the adventure with The Bounty Trackers. As we only had a one man yak, and I wasn't able to get into it due to my age and knees that don't seem to want to bend like they should anymore, I opted to stay on the jetty and asked The Bounty Trackers to log my attendance, as I made the hour long trip and then wasn;t able get into the yak.

Found it today on a nice stroll out with Mrs Iamapom. What a lovely sunny day. And a cool location neither of us had visited before.
This was my last opportunity for us to get over there under someone else's steam (or sail) this year.
Found the waypoints pretty easily, and mrs Iamapom was really helpful in finding the tricky hill related waypoint. Some tricky logic also helped us to avoid one wp altogether.
When we completed the co-ords it was clear where the gz was. Had to pretend to be using a nearby facility to slip away to the GZ, and there was some scrambling involved to make the find. Mrs Iamapom stayed behind, but could hear her spouse scrabbling around but not see him. Was watched by some muggles from "over there" when making the find. I think they thought I was geo-weeing. Cache is in excellent conditions and just contains a lot. Signed log and left an Iamapom

Arrrr. We arrived at port in time to see the Hispaniola in all her glory ready to sail by the southern passage. Tempted as we were to set sails with her, we had heard rumours mutiny and treachery, so chose to use Ben Gunn's coracles and travel to the island by the northern passage.
We had to move quickly as the sun was setting, all the time keeping out of sight of the scurvy lot of brigands from the Hispaniola. The treasure hunt took longer than planned due to miscalculations on our part. But with treasure finally in hand, we set our eyes seaward, only to see the Hispaniola leaving without us. Marooned! Just Me, Ben Gunn, Daryllm, CathlyL and Vicki.
Thankfully, Ben Gunn's coracles were still tied up on the north side of the island and we paddled back to the mainland in treasure laden coracles.
Thanks, Biggles Bear, for a fun cache. Smile

After a glorious day paddling to different caches we had to have a crack at this one, buried treasure too great to resist, so PolecatS,Vicki, Cathylmorgan and myself arrived and parked after a breif disscussion on whether we catch the ferry or unload the long boats we decided that we didnt want to miss the last ferry so we took the long boat option so we paddled out to the island and docked at the north jetty tied thre boats and headed off to locate the clues require,d once this was done plotted a course to Gz, not sure of the co ords polecat went back to check on one of them as we weren't sure we were correct, while he was gone i kept looking and soon had cache in hand before he got back, not sure that this is the greatest location for the cache as there are a heap of better spots it could be put, it kinds of lets it down a liitle bit but never mind it was a fun cache to do and it bought me to a place i had never been before, also you might want to up the cache size to a small as its no longer a micro, TFTC Biggles Bear a really enjoyable cache, Took TB

Find 6 of 6 on a canoe-caching run with Polecat, Daryllm123 and Vicki. Parked the car on the side of the road and carried the boats down to the launching area. Managed to find a sludge free spot to launch! Nice easy paddle across to the island before tackling the clues to the treasure. First couple were easy but had a bit of trouble with the hill clue - amazingly it turns out we did have the wrong plaque but it still had the same number of letters so we got to GZ okay! At GZ the GPSr was pointing to an unlikely spot so Polecat went back to check the co-ords, while Daryllm123 (being the more adventurous of all of us) decided to clamber down and have a look and crazily enough it was there! Probably not the spot I would have chosen to hide the cache with the whole island to choose from! Still, we had a great time solving the clues and in the true spirit of caching it took me to a place i didn't even know existed! Thanks for the great fun.

27-Mar-11
The cache is now ready to be found once more.

27-Mar-11
Thanks to º (aka Phil) the cache has been moved to a more secure location.

We therefore invite all previous finders to come try their luck once more.

The description has been updated to reflect this and other changes on Treasure Island. The palm that once proudly crowned Spy Glass hill has been removed, however the plaque at it's base is still there but the growth of the surrounding vegetation has made it harder to spot, so the difficulty ratting has been increased slightly.

[purple]Replaced it Very Happy[/purple][font=Comic Sans MS]

After mailing the CO I offered to replace this one and so I did Very Happy There is a little offset: Old coords + S 00° 00.005 - E 000° 00.005 = new coords. I also mailed some info to change the riddle a bit, so this cache should be up and running in no time Smile

I used this cache as an excuse to paddle a little bit on the Yarra. It was nice just before sunset and to my surprise the mozzies weren't killing me. Unfortunately I also couldn't find the cache despite the fact that I got pretty decent coordinates and I knew that these might be a bit off.

I was looking forward to a chance at finding this old cache, checked out all the necessary spots, didn't really need to find the missing plaque as the missing number can be deduced. Made our way back to GZ but it's an overgrown mess, there's tall grass everywhere and nothing obvious has a cache hidden under it. Reading about the original stump being removed and the GZ shifting by 10m meant I was searching in the wrong spots, and I've been told the cache is now supposed to be under a pile of sticks in the open, rather than by anything recognisable like all the trees and logs.

Good luck to the next cacher who goes and has a try, I'd recommend picking a cool day not in the middle of summer, some long pants and a partner who can help out, or is patient enough to wait for you to turn the place over!

Found @ 15:45. I have had this one on the list for ages to do and today I decided to take the GeoMrs canoeing along the Yarra with the object of stopping by for the hunt. We paddled our way down to the city and tied up for an Ice Cream at Sth Bank before the return trip. As we passed by the Island we pulled along side a boarding point. We checked around for muggle pirates and found we had it to ourselves (probably because it was 39 deg outside). We gathered the clues and headed to GZ where the forward hand had the cache in hand after a short search. I (the Captain) was looking wider a field based on some previous logs but alas, it was right at GZ in an unexpected hide. Time to head on home knowing the treasure is still in place. TFTC TNLNSL

Hopped into my trusty racing kayak and paddled over to the island in the middle of winter and had it all to myself to hunt this cache. Found the four clues and made my way to GZ. I see that other cachers have noted up to 17m distance from GZ so widened the search and yes I can confirm that it was 7m from my GZ GPS reading and be careful not to stand on it! I see you havent had any finds in the middle of winter Biggles Bear. TFTC TNLN Regards Sarian

Found with chewinprickles.

We managed to get back to the ferry in time to get across to the Island and enjoyed a good clue hunt. We worked out the coords for GZ but had a bit of trouble locating the right hide. Chewi eventually found the hide after widening the search area. A very enjoyable cache and suitably challenging for a 'buried treasure'.

Took a bike ride with my cousin, Captain Tomato today, from near the city to Fairfield which was most enjoyable although a little cold and wet at times. Picked up a pile of caches for him but not so many for me as I've done them all. Except this one!! On our return journey down the river we discovered the ferry was at the jetty just waiting for us to come along it seems. Too cold for anyone else today!
We had a quick wander around the island picking up the clues and then to GZ. We didn't have much trouble with the clues but the cache was a little hard to find as it doesn't stand out much at all. The said stump is all gone and reduced to just a few sticks now. Thankfully I managed to spot something slightly out of place before I tore out what is left of my hair and it is all signed and done. Great to finally get here after passing here so many times and wondering how and when I'd ever get to this one. Now that it's done I couldn't believe how easy it was and also what a special place this is too. Might come here for a barbeque someday soon. The island has all the facilities.
Thanks indeed Biggles Bear. Great cache.

We came, we saw, we found nothing. The gz kept us at a log, not a stump. After waiting about 2 hours we tried again, and again we got the same lock taking us to the log. We found a large stump, but nothing in it.

After just about turning the place upside down we gave up - too damn hot anyway. Now reading some other posts, it appears that maybe we needed to extend our search far wider than we did. Ah well, maybe next pirate season.

Find # 2106 and 5th of the day at 10:21am. On a clean-up some loose ends day accompanied by feathertop. Well what can I say it was a memorable experience as Feathertop stated Im definatly a landlubber, I got totally saoked from head to toe, the bottom half from the river and the top half from the rain, we walked the island and got all the required info but the cache was not to be found, we normally dont like to call for help but I didnt want to get another soaking so we went for 2 help line to no avail and were about to call it quits when I stumbles across the well decomposed hiding spot about 17 meters from GZ, what an adventure but we got our booty.

Flint's treasure has been taunting me for ages. Rather than wait for the boat that rarely sails, Oenze and I opted for the blowup rubber dingy that served us so well at gottas Boat 2. Alas this time in the rain we neglected to ensure the sea cocks were sealed and as we set off an ominous 2 inches of water sloshed around in the bottom of the boat. Oenze was rowing and began to moan as the water level rose flooding his nether regions with cold scummy river water. He wanted to go home but the little matter of a cache had to be found. After gathering the clues we struck out and rang the pprass and later the maccamob hot lines but their memories of this cache were from a time long passed and we were left to fend for ourselves though it must be said that a combination of their memories had us in the right area. Hopefully we have made it a little easier for future finders. The return journey was more of the same with the boat filling quicker than before. Back on terra firma we discovered the open bung holes. What an oversight and thus ensuring a memorable 46th Biggles Bear cache for me.

While close by today, I was wishing a bridge would appear to go and find Flint's treasure. It was hot enough for a swim, but then it is the Yarra.

Frustratingly, this year the punt will only be running from 12 January through to 13 April, during the Herring Island Summer Arts Festival.

Private boats also have access to the island from Como Landing or Burnley landing... so any cachers that may be nautically inclined and feel like knocking this cache over, give me a call.

The Hispaniola was sailing for a special occasion today, so we joined the crew and looked for treasure. Unfortunately, good fortune was not with us and we could not even find even a stump in which to look. We will come back in the summer.

Found by Bob at 1310

First log for this one for a while - and maybe the last for this season, although the punt will be operating for the next 2 weekends (until 17th April). There was a log entry by a "Peter and Em" (I think) on 26/1/07 and it didn't look like a muggle entry (the names seem vaguely familiar but I can't quite associate them with a team).

I could have done this one last Sunday, but I thought the punt would have stopped with daylight savings and I dawdled my way around the Botanic Gardens while hunting Woozles, so I got quite a surprise as I was passing on my way back to Hawthorn and saw it operating Surprised. I was attending my nephew's 21st in Brighton this afternoon, so took the opportunity of going via the Yarra and had a pleasant stroll around the island while assimilating a bit of culture (and a cache) Smile.

Thanks BigglesBear - another very innovative cache in a lovely location which I certainly would not have discovered if not for geocaching Big Grin.

Found by sbalogh at 15:00 on 14/1/2006.
Our team had tried this one about this time last year but ended up about 10m from the actual GZ. The punt was closing for business in about 10 minutes and we did not have time to widen the search.
This year, however, I went reasonably early so I would have an hour or two if needed. I found the cache within a few minutes so I had plenty of time on my hands. I decided to go and finish a few other caches nearby which have been haunting me for ages.
Thanks for the cache BB. Smile

Dear Bears,

We have finally, finally, finally found your cache at 12:55pm today. We have passed here so many times but with the punt being out of hours we were always unable to tackle it. I must admit that this cache has been regularly in our top 3 closest caches to home and I had read the cache page so many times that I had a mental picture of what I would see here. When we reached the first spot, I immediately thought that this wasn't what I was looking for before I realised that it was indeed. Plenty of small black parrots on our shoulders here today. Thanks for the cache.

Regards,

Found at 2.30pm GAFF2. Lots of Flint's crew with their families about the place. All quite well behaved as I am guessing the treasure has been divied up by now and no-one is too worried as to who goes searching. All we found was a remnant of what glories there used to be - and about 5 snails sliming all over the container. Thanks BB. It was a lovely day to be out on the water as well. tn/ln

DBigg & clan and three geocaching debutants were cycling past the island on the first day that the ferry was working this Summer. The boat was waiting so we went across. I didn't realise there was a map in the description until just now. That might have made it a bit easier. Still not too hard. The cache was found out of its spot, just on the ground. We hid it back where it should be. Took one coin, lamp key ring, ear plugs and left several items. We would have left the Nemo Travel Bug but the cache was too small. Thanks Biggles Bear.

Good day for a strole around the island examining the sculptures. Wondered if the cache would have been washed away as the tide marks were very high. Not the case, found high and dry.

could not get to the island today waited at the port for some time but no sign of a boat, checked at the nearby inn, the occupants said the the boat ws only runing on saturday, so might pay to check with parks before driving here in your buggie.

sbalogh53 is sure he found the correct spot but could not get to the cache because there was a possum sitting on it. I tried to reach under the possums backside to see if I could extract the cache from its warm hiding place, but the creature really was in the way and refused to budge.[8] Of course it is possible I was looking at the wrong "stump". The possum was cute! I was quickly running out of time because the Hispaniola was setting sail at 15 minutes before 5 never to return that day. We only had minutes to spare so had to abandon the treasure hunt. I will return with another two gold pieces to resume the hunt another time.

You will not need to disturb any possums to find this cache. If you find yourself trying to look under some furry objects that object to being prodded, look elsewhere. Smile

[We intended to take on Flint's crew last year but missed the boat (on the last day of daylight saving we had to be somewhere else). There was no way that we were going to let Flint's scurvy band get away with it any longer so headed out ready for battle on the 19th day of the month of December in the year of our Lord 2004. Suspecting that dogs would not be allowed we left behind our loyal servants (GeoDogs) but could not find any actual indication that they weren't permitted. The ferryman may have raised an objection.

Flint's men were everywhere with their families. (It's a strange business to be sure when pirates travel with their families!!) Most were burning pieces of meat. All went well till we searched out Ben Gunn's cave.] We knew exactly what we were looking for based on the "Stone House" description and http://home.vicnet.net.au/~herring/arts.htm on the web. [Eventually we located the cave but even after searching for about 1 hour we were unable to locate the much-cursed brass plaque. Using the known sculpture details] from the web [and the artist details from another sculpture, we were ready for the final assault.

Following our trusty compass device (i.e. GPS), we were at 1 metre to go when one of us (Liz) spotted the treasure 1 metre ahead at 2:45pm. There were lots of spies about on both land and water (in their own long-ships) so we retired to a covered place nearby to inspect the loot. We took a sabre-toothed tiger away for the safety of future searchers and left a dolphin to provide good luck for future mariners. Thanks Biggles Bear for the challenge.]

Found on 19/12/04 @ 1635 AEDT. With Captain Facitman and his motley crew of Facit-family members, this scurvy dog sailed to low seas to Treasure Island in search of the pirate treasure Cool. We managed to conceal our presence from the flea-ridden muggles infesting the mess areas of the island, and after collecting the clues, the cache was found in quick order by s-Facit at GZ with Captain Rhino keeping a sea-eye out for marauding scoundrels.

Found at 16:35 by the whole Facit Crew.
Captain Rhino lead this party of misfits across dangerous waters with the sea pouring into our small vessel (A few too many Muggles on board for the crossing! Surprised ).
The party travelled around the island collecting the clues and before long we were at GZ and s-Facit had the cache in her hands.
A mutinous crew member then took off into the bush (unhappy not to be the cache finder), swaps were made and a search began to capture the wayward crew member and put her in irons.
Trip back to land was pleasant and uneventful except for the daggerish looks from the manacled mutineer.

Took: Dolphin
Left: Hairclips

Thanks Biggles Bear for a enjoyable late afternoon stroll.

The 2 fair maids and I set out to recover the untold wealth of Flint's Treasure. We wrapped ourselves in oilskins and seafarer's boots and laughed in the face of the passing showers - I mean, whoever heard of buccaneers wanting to warm their toes by the open fire and avoid the rain when there was bounty to be had?

We diligently followed the clues and as we were nearing the big X that marked the spot we were confronted by a formidable obstacle! Was it another utterly ruthless pirate crew? Horatio Hornblower and the HMS Indefatigable? A swamp full of starving 'gators? No - even worse! It was an enthusiastic sculptor who was most insistent that we go into the gallery and view the scultpture exhibition!!! We cleverly distracted her by saying that we needed to go to the toilet, then stealthily slipped by to recover the treasure.

Took: racing car & silver sun.
Left: US penny & heart stickers.
Thanks Biggles Bear for this adventure and for bringing us to this much overlooked location.

We kayaked over here just on dusk, and ran around the island like mad pirates collecting the clues (daggers twixt our teeth, incase we came across any vicious natives). A quick calculation showed us that the treasure was to be found not too far from where we'd left the trusty vessels - however the sun had already dipped down below the horizon, and we were beginning to fear for our lives, having heard many stories about the vicious animals that roamed these parts. However, we had fire sticks to ward them off, and assist us with our search.

While searching we found a native furry animal, tucked in a tree hollow with one of its young - we hoped they weren't guarding the treasure, as they had rather ferocious claws. Once the treasure was found, we took a frog, and left an old Australian penny and a sabre-toothed tiger (nasty vicious animal, kept biting us when we were trying to carry it over to the island - we were quite glad to leave it behind).

I've always wanted to visit this island, and I'm glad this cache gave me the opportunity to experience this great place.

There were four of us on the hunt. We gathered the clues, but for some reason we each had to count the stone slabs about six times before we could agree on the number! We all found the cache separately: Emu-D first, then Emu-S, then Emu-M, and then a visiting shipmate for the day, Emu-A.

We all had great fun! Thanks for the cache Biggles Bear; Emu-A is sold on geocaching and wants to join the party.

Team Frogger and the 2 Tadpoles finally managed to get passage to the island of treasure, previous attempts foiled by the lack of water borne transportation on the days we were there. With a little guesswork, all the sites were visited and the treasure chest found.
Took whale stamp, left creamic frog from Panama

Thanx for the cache Biggles, never knew of the treasures to be found on this island.

My Second attempt to do this cache. The last time was in Winter and there was no boat running till daylight saving. We arrived at the said Co-ordinates and read the sign which said the boat runs midday Thursday to Sunday but no boat was in sight. Called the phone number on the sign and was advised the boat is now only running on a Saturday and Sunday due to the low number of people using it Thursday Friday Sad. I will eventually get this one. But till next time ...

I am so annoyed with myself. I was looking forward to attempting this one, judging from the description. But it was only when I was on the tram on the way there, that I discovered that I didn't have a copy of the instructions with me (I thought I had copied them onto my PDA). All I had was a cheatisearch map and the waypoint in my GPS, which, this cache being a multi, weren't much use to me. I search along Chapel Street in vain for an internet cafe, then headed to Scullin Cross Bones after lunch.

A beautiful day for lunch beside the river followed by a stroll around the island. We were a bit dismayed when the gps indicated the cache was in the water so we retraced our footsteps and checked all the clues again only to come up with the same answer. On our second try with the same coordinates we found the cache on dry land. We're pretty sure the island had moved! Thanks for a great cache - we didn't even know this place existed. Nothing exchanged. Greg and Bev

Mary & David struck gold at 1350. We love a Multi, and this one had it all. Even the captain of the Hispaniola looked the part, with his hat and beard. We have whizzed past this place countless times on either side and never appreciated what it had to offer. Found the clues without arousing the suspicions of Flint's crew, and there were certainly a few of them about today disguised as students taking notes on clipboards. Found a quiet nook to put the clues together and, mindful of Muzza's experience, detected a minor caculation error (worth 15km!) when we first plotted the location of the treasure, which we naturally corrected immediately. A short search at GZ soon had the treasure trove in our possession, and we swapped a silver shell for the Boer War figurine. We had just finished at the site when we spied another band of pirates, disguised as passengers on a Yarra tourist boat. We made ready to repel boarders, but they retreated. A marvellous experience. Our thanks to Biggles Bear for another adventure-laden cache.

First found by Muzza, but only after a bit of an unnecessary journey. Being a scurvy land lubber, I paid my two pieces of gold and made the arduous sea journey to Treasure Island at around one and a half bells. Having secured the information and avoided the watchful eyes of those around, I calculated the resting location of the booty and fled the island in search of it.

After crossing the Yarra Ocean and the ye olde highway for very fast carriages, the hiding spot seemed in a watery grave at an old quarry. Shiver me timbers I cried. I had made a monumental miscalculation, and had to backtrack to find the correct location. Once there, the treasure was mine for the taking. And indeed I did. I took the thermometer key ring and left a two coloured stamp of a whale (in keeping with the pirate/mariner theme).

Thanks Biggles Bear for another great cache in a lovely location. I had never been there before, and now I've been twice.
