We werent paying proper attention to the coordinates and started searching around a likely tree but when we couldnt find it we realised we were still 15 metres away and readjusted our target. It was then a nice quick find.TFTC
A nice quick find while re-visiting the river trail, trying to beat the rain on our bikes . Just a slight drizzle at this stage. Impressive tree; TFTC!
What a magnificent beech tree. The proliferation of bird song indicated it is a home to many of our feathered friends. Tftc
Found with Cympull. While looking for gc we met Capperz and had a great gc chat, as 1 lady said must have been a good conversion as she passed us on her way back along track. Great to talk to someone who has been out there for a long time geocaching and to learn about new puzzles etc. Great day for walking the trails. TFC
Just a quick scan of the area and I spotted the item mentioned in the description. TFTC.
Fantastic day out with hubby and dad, we hit the track around 8am and came off around 5 hours later having a nice haul of finds with no dnfs, thanks for the placement we loved the walk/labs and trads.
It was about this point that I met cympull at fisha1288 for the first time. Had a real god geo-chat and whiled away our time. They made the find and I added my name. After coming back from the Poutu canal I had lunch and a brew and headed out on the bile again for another 10-15km ride.Onto phase 2 for the day, cycling the Tongariro river walkways. Ended up turning round and heading back from Red Hut pool and covering same ground. More great scenery and a comfortable terrain level.I have (another) long weekend away from home starting Friday, destination is Turangi. Our work has a team-building day on Friday with Whitewater rafting in teams followed by Tokaanu hot-pools and shared lunch. It was a double banger event with half the people doing Wednesday and the remainder on Friday. As chance would have it I'd already identified this weekend as a weekend away at Turangi and booked the work bach to stay in Friday and Saturday night. That was fortunate as I drove myself up on Friday morning and stayed the weekend. I brought a work push-bike along too with the hope to cover more ground, and so it was. I found almost all of my target caches and a decent haul was made. Waking up Sunday morning to overnight rain and fog across the Desert Road left me glad I'd done most finding on Friday and Saturday. Thanks to all COs for their efforts hiding, especially Funkymunkyzone. I even bumped into another caching couple on the trails on Saturday, nice to meet you cympull and fisha1288.
Thanks for your amazing cache funkymunkyzone. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches. Found with Fisha1288 Cheers, Cympull.
Turangi was our chosen destination for Easter this year and despite the weather forecast the cycle trails and local event were on the to do list.ROS headed out with other cachers who were also staying in the NZMCA camp.Today the river trail was on the list after the event. Spotted hint item, no problem with the find. Amazed at the number of muggle cyclists passing us TFTC.
Today friends of mine held a geo-event in Turangi because...well just because right? I mean, who really needs a reason to host an event? So I drove up from Ohau this morning, over a very miserable looking Desert Road, in order to attend and then go caching afterwards.Having just spent 3+ hours in the company of Mar1sa walking the Poutu Canal trail in order to get all the recently placed caches along it, I was now back on my own again. A new cache published today at Omori had taken me over there for an hour or so, and now it was early evening and I still had over 2 hours of driving ahead of me, as well as wanting to stop at Red Hut to walk a bit of that trail before heading off homewards.I've walked this trail a few times over the years, and always enjoy the trail through Beech Trees and the like. A straightforward find at GZ once I had done an entire circuit. No issues to report with this cache, and I was soon heading back to my car after replacing everything as found.Thank you for encouraging me to come back this way again today.
The second cache for me on this trail as I'd already found most of the others. No problems making the find here, although evading the curious eye's of the many, many muggles enjoying the trail was challenging. Thanks for putting this here
After today's Easter at Turangi event, rattll and I, along with rosmar, came for a cycle along the river trail, picking up trads and completing the adlab as we went. Most were quick finds, some took a little longer. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
Enjoyed hiking the River Trail today together with Gandalf der Groe. Cache was easily found. TFTC
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit & doing the things that we want to do we are staying at the NZMCA Park in Turangi decided we would get the bikes out of the back of the Ute & go for a ride around the Tongariro River Trail, a walking & cycling trail that goes up one side of the river & back down the other side we had a couple of Adventure Labs to complete and, of course, do some caching while out and about this was an easy find, log signed & cache container easily replaced pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,869 for us!
Having a couple days holiday in Trangi. After cold icy showers yesterday we are back to beautiful sunshine today. We have brought the bikes and enjoying a ride along the river and around the town. Thanks to all the CO s for the caches TFTC
Currently staying in turangi and enjoying mountain biking and bush walking and geocaching. We were biking the Tongariro trail again today and picking up caches that we skipped yesterday. This one took a few minutes to find - when Mr Pinocchio found it I realised that I had walked straight past it! TFTC
Nice one - glad some big trees are survivors here! TNLNSL TFTC Closed the door as I left.
Oops, looking in a totally different spot. Back tracked a bit and hello there, you are.A nice quick, find, grab, sign and flee.TFT
Out today on our bikes cycling the turangi river trail loop. Spotted the giant with the cache nicely tucked away. Tftc
A beautiful afternoon to knock off the geocaches along this section of the Tongariro River trail. Cache is in good order, Cheers
Awesome to see a giant like this still remaining

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)… We happened to cast a wary caching eye southward (Turangi) and our alarm bells started ringing. There seems to have been a mini explosion of new caches down yonder way, so the time is right for a visit.
Indeed, a few new caches have appeared along the Tongariro River Trail since my last visit in December. While Gap had a couple of extra finds to make, I focused on any that we both needed… The host turned out to be far larger than expected. Surprisingly, it seems to have weathered the storms that have brought many of its neighbours down. Thanks FMZ. TFTC.

my work is involved with the forestry industry and if you travel around this area the damage
from this cyclone is huge.
many millions of dollars of tress have been blown over.
we had no problems locating this giant with a safe cache rucked away.

thanks for the cache.
thanks for the cache.
Headed down to Taupo for a long weekend to attend the Possum Night Trail run on Saturday. Left Auckland early on Friday, getting stuck in the traffic on the way to Fielddays at Mystery Creek. Soon left the State Highway to travel down to Turangi.
On Friday I decided to complete the Tongariro River Trail. I completed the 14.75km circular route in 4 hours of caching. I parked on SH1 near the bridge into Turangi and headed up the steep route to start the walk.
A lot of destruction through here from Cyclone Gabrielle, with so many large trees toppled. Thankfully this didn't make the search too difficult.

Although it was raining quite steadily I enjoyed my walk along the river trail this afternoon. I started at the Red Hut Bridge and walked north for about 3 Km before retracing my steps. TFTC
I decided to walk the loop track between the two swing bridges on the Tongariro River. Up the Eastern side side and down the Western. There was an AdLab cache, with a bonus, and several Trads. The full loop took me about 4.5 hours and was 11km long. I found 5 AdLab locations and 15 Trads in total. Not a bad haul.
Great song by Gloria Gaynor.
Cheers for the cache, FMZ.

Tagging along with J'sMum for an FTF, just glad to see the bike didn't fall to bits, hasn't had a lot of use for quite a while. Nice spot on the track. Don't want anymore cyclones, thanks. Didn't realise there were so many trees damaged in the forests around Turangi area. TFTC.
Truly the cyclone brought upon a lot of devastation and damage, but papatūānuku is resilient. I on the other hand wasn't so sure after finding this cache if I was gonna survive the ride back home, not having been on a bike in so long. Thank you for bringing me to this place, it is great to be back. Joint [FTF] with Punga and Paua. Thanks for the cache!
