Took Heidi the Himalayan motorcycle for an overnight adventure, with the primary purpose to cache out the seaward side of SH1 south of Rakaia to the Ashburton River. Day one consisted of literally hundreds of kilometers of country roads, many of which were unsealed gravel, dusty in the dry Canterbury farmland. Fields as far as the eye can see, sprinkled with occasional flocks of sheeps and herds of cows and the odd piece of farm machinery doting the landscape. That night was spent at Hakatere Campsite, a neat little unattended patch of grass on the side of a dead-end road right on the coast. An evening spent lounging in my hammock I always take camping, then retiring to my tent for a sleep before rising like the Undead to consume several coffees and continue my mid-week weekend mission.TFTC
An odd place to find a small cemetery but Bitsprayer specializes in that! A quick find after leaping the electric fence. Cheers
Oh no, there was an electric fence right n the edge of the road. Used all my old farm boy knowledge to get past for a quick find.
Can you believe it? I drove all the way out here for this cache as it fits a challenge I am currently working on only to find two council workers there with weed eaters. I decided it would be quicker to wait for them to finish than to return another day. So I sat down the road a bit but actually it took ages - they also watered all the small, recently planted shrubs - may have even planted them actually. Eventually they drove off and I headed in for a super quick find. TFTC # 20,905
A number of options here but soon found what we were looking for. It will be nice to get off the dusty roads after travelling up the coast. TFTC
Took a long lunch break on a very hot day to try and clear up this stretch of caches to the Huts....What a cool wee cemetery memorial. Begs the question - how does a cemetery go into private hands and then get planted out in tree's?.....Weird.Nice spot. Hot as so a welcome respite to climb back into the car!
A bit of a drive for one, but I was kind of nearby, especially in geocaching terms. Interesting spot, thank you for bringing me here! TFTC!!
My goal today was to complete a challenge I've been working on for over a year to accumulate a total of 500 kms of distance between caches where the minimum distance is 2 kms. If my calculations are correct then the previous cache (number 141) will be the one to push me over the line but I decided to carry on and get this one just to make sure. Easy find here. Thanks Bitsprayer#14765
Today I went for a drive to find a few of the more remote and out of the way caches between Rakaia and Ashburton. Weird that the cemetery is now a forest. Cache found in the first place checked. TFTC, Biggles.
This is a cache with a long traffic free drive to a little surprise at the end, and well done to Bitsprayer for finding the possie!! We have never seen a cemetery as small as this, its lonely position and with so little to indicate it's purpose. Worth the drive and a fav from us.
Lovely day for a Sunday drive. An opportunity to stand and wonder about the people who are buried there. TFTC
Found on the way to AshVegas. Quite remote and not a lot to see. Thankfully a very quick find using the hint; TFTC
Saw this on published a few days ago, couldn't get to it until this morning, took a detour off the main road to this quiet spot. Located the cache with no problem and signed the blank log. {FTF} TFTC!
