What an awesome cache. A couple of things to make it even better... 1 the speed when kids are present no signs ? 2 the closed days differ from the web to the sign on the door (ANZAC day ). Other than that a great cache and a favorite awarded. Thank you
Did as a puzzle online and visited today. Excellent cache hide - logbook has been used as a scribble pad by many local children - and of course we browsed the upper shelf as well. Then explored the Centre - we had read about the swimming pool being shifted, but hadn't known where to. Watched pickleball being played by cheerful locals. And there's a public toilet in the grounds, open all hours. Useful to know about - thank you for the hide.But. Hmm. This is a confusing one. Rather a mess unfortunately. Kudos to the Wanaka Recreation Centre for setting up a cache on the grounds, and for the excellent cache hide, but it's often problematic when a non-geocacher tries to place a cache. I wonder why the reviewer didn't offer advice when the cache was submitted? It would gave been very helpful if the staff member had been put in touch with an experienced cacher as a beta tester. So - It looks as though this cache can be done as a multi OR as a puzzle.1) For the multi, I assume it's a classic trail? With a physical waypoint at the starting seat, giving the coordinates for the second physical waypoint, etc, and the fourth waypoint gives you the coordinates of the final cache?2) Alternatively, to solve as puzzle, find W,X,Y,Z. W,Y, and Z are easily found online or from a visit. No idea about X - didn't spot any road sign there today. But incomplete coordinates put you within sight of an interesting place which you're sure to investigate.3) Lastly, an unworkable puzzle. There are numbers to calculate for A to F, which you can do online or by visiting, but there isn't any coordinate template to plug those numbers into. And the numbers don't correspond with the final cache coordinates. Incomplete and seems to be nonsense answers? So possibly this section was added to the writeup by mistake?
#3994 Today is day 18 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm wandering around Wanaka and finding geocaches.I did this real quick before heading over to the breweries. I was a bit confused about the questions A to F, and I wasn't sure where to find X. Regardless, it was an easy multi. I found the cache after opening two doors. WanakaRecCentre, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 18, 2024 @ 17:25:33[GCA89M6] Wnaka Recreation Caching was a D3.0/T1.5 Other Multi-cache at the time of finding.
Excellent hide! Deserves a favourite point for sure. Over from Dunedin for a small job and staying with friends. Headed out for a bit of geocaching and glad I came here to get this one. I think I did this the shorter way going by some logs but its worth it.Thanks for the cache, opted-out user#6112 ** Make your way to Dunedin for New Zealands next Mega Event. GCA7ZHD Geo Toroa will be held on NZs Labour Day long weekend 26-27th October 2024 **
Geocache is back up and running with a slight addition to the final cache (see Additional Hint)
Thanks to everyone who has been solving our cache! And providing important feedback. Based on this feedback, the cache is currently under maintenance and we are looking at an improvement for the final cache. Bear with us while we get this sorted and we will post once the cache is back in action. Thanks from the team at Wnaka Recreation Centre
Just arrived in Wanaka and saw some new caches, perfect, time to find them! Solved this cache quite a while ago but never got around to finding it. Such a cool container and hiding spot! I saw it and knew straight away!Logbook signed at 15:34 Saturday, 20th April. Cache number 337, TFTC!
Took me the required 30 minutes but I got muddled with something in the middle and then decided to give up but as I headed away on my bike I spotted a sign I needed and then sat and worked out the final cords. Back I went to the new GZ and thought umm - this is isnt quite right. Looked up and spotted a likely hiding spot very near. YES - signed log and headed into town.
Did what I could of this online beforehand (which was most of what I needed). Had a good hunt around at gz but couldn't find anything. Went away, had a think, and then came back for a second look with an idea. With a quick look in the right place I then found it. Thanks for setting up.
Day 6 of travelling around the south island with Blue Jay. Today, we stayed in the Wanaka area and had a relaxing day seeing the sights while also getting some nice caches. TFTC. Toffee Man.
Fab This was fun and a favourite for the end container. We also acknowledge the traditional custodians of New Zealand / Aoteroa, as we geocache throughout their land while on holiday. Thanks for showing us this place, & for placing and maintaining this cache. The is our playground
Queenstown to Wanaka today via Cromwell. We grabbed a few caches on the way.Making our way towards Wanaka now and picked this up on route. We had solved this one a couple of days ago as we noted there was no need to work out a-f ( other than for interest ) and the rest was solvable online. So we went straight to GZ where the cache was found after a bit of a search. Fortunately the location was empty so no stealth required. TFTC Tim and Viv - ddm
Fun cache had us on the run!!!!!! Great finish thanks for taking the time to make this fun multi
Hi there opted-out user. Another short trip to the land of beauty - but this time we head back right after Christmas. We found this cache at 0241pm after a short search - and the container and log are in good condition. TN, LN, SL. Thanks to opted-out user for this cache - our find 10777 and the 5th of 5 finds for the day.FieldNotes: The cache and log were both found in good condition. We came here a day or so ago but ended up with the wrong coords. After checking and adjusting, we returned today for a find. A FP given also for all the extra work.
What a great little multi. We had a great wander around the centre and nearby fields, neat to see how many sports are catered for . Sorting out the coords was a bit of fun and the final cache location was a real beauty. A fav from us TFTC
I don't understand what is required with this multi. Why do I have to find values for A-F? Which co ordinates are missing these values?I worked out the numbers for W-Z at home, and those co ordinates took me straight to the cache without needing to do or find anything else.TFTC and have a favourite for the final placement.
Thanks for crafting this elaborate cache for us to enjoy. We had to find the few of the points then go home to work out the finals. Came back the next evening when the area was quieter. Amazing cache favourite point added
Worked this out when we arrived in Wanaka a few days ago but only just got the chance to check if our coordinates for GZ were correct. Happy to locate cache and sign. A well deserved favourite point from us. TFTC
This is a superb multi. A lot of work has gone into its creation. Initially I was a bit stymied figuring out what to do so shot into the rec centre and asked some staff members there. They couldn't have been more helpful. In fact, if I had read the previous logs properly, especially the one before mine, I should have known what to look for. Anyway, once that was sorted it was a lot of fun finding the other waypoints for the next pieces of the puzzle. A short time later and the log book was in hand. Not busy so no muggles to worry about.
I highly recommend this cache. Thanks, WanakaRecCentre, for this gem. Well deserved favourite point given.
Edit: dropped off a TB.

Awesome fun cache!! Did it on a Sunday morning with very few muggles around, otherwise it would have been tricky. Very well thought out cache! Solved and found with doggydoo12.
Wawee! This was our first ever multi-cache and it was so cool! Took us a wee while to realise there was a cache at each location to help us solve it but, once we realised that, we were off on the mission. Thank you!!!! Found with pdnz.
Finally found it!! On the third try! The coordinates were off, maybe fix that. Our first militia cache. Tftc!!
