It's day 8 of my 3-week bucket list road trip around South Island. Today, I'm heading from Wanaka to Te Anau in preparation for a trip to Milford Sound tomorrowThis virtual incentivised me to take a break in Kingston. It's a beautiful sunny spring day at the moment, not a cloud in the sky, 18 degrees, and no wind at all. The lake is as smooth as it can ever be. It's a great time for a break from driving ... I just hope I can get coffee! Thanks for bringing me here and for placing this virtual cache.
On a road trip together with -moge-; across New Zealand; from Cape Reinga to Stewart Island; up, down, right, left ... So much to see, so much to experience. So many great, and sometimes old, caches! But I can hardly keep up with the logging. Far too exhausted from all the experiences. I am sorry that it will now be a standardized log for some founds. But this place I will remember. I was sitting on the deck, foots over the it, dangling to the water. Water was so clear and tempting. But the wind kind of cold, so i didn't go in. But I really enjoyed the calmness, the view ... wow. Thank you very much for showing this lovely, peaceful place.
Hello Abbykitt,Another day, another Cache.Together with Dr Donna travelling through New Zealand. We arrived at Auckland Airport and made our way up north. After visiting Cape Reinga we went on our way South to reach Stewart Island with stops in many different Citys all over the country. Of course we have an open eye for nice Caches but take what we can get. Today we came across your Cache "On the Wharf Virtual Rewards 4.0" and signed the logbook with our names or took pictures for Virtuals or Earthcaches and answered all questions asked. Its great how many nice spots we are able to discover through our journey and how many of them we only See because of Geocaching! Thanks for bringing us to this place and takeing care for the geocache. The Lake Was a little bit rough with a few waves. Even with the Sun out the water was still very cold. Which didnt Stop me from a little swim. Liebe Gre und vielen Dank fr die Hege und Pflege deines Virtual Cache! -moge-#############Der Cache "On the Wharf Virtual Rewards 4.0" von "Abbykitt" war fr mich Cache 6731. #852 12:06PMNZ trip day 9 travel from aus Quick spot in town travailing from te anau to Haast. A look around at the trains. beautiful view on the jetty. A couple of boats a little spit of rain and cloudy day. Thanks for placing this cache Abbykitt
Day eighteen of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris.Traveling from Te Anau to Queenstown, with just a few caches done.Cloud over the mountains, but no rain today.A lovely spot to look out at the lake.Someone had arrange a pattern of flowers on the wharf (not sure why)The day was a bit grey and overcast, and the lake was empty - no swimmers, no boats!Photos attached to the log. Thanks, Robmc.
Day 18 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc and today we left Te Anau and travelled to Queenstown caching along the way. Not before collecting some delicious muffins at the Merchant Store. The weather is looking very promising and the scenery was pretty good too.Our day is gray, no sandflies and nobody on the lake. Thanks for contributing to our amazing holiday Abbykitt
A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in last Saturday week after a bit of a delay. So after a great couple of days in Invercargill its time to say goodbye.Hopefully the weather improves as Im missing the sunshine that I had earlier on on this trip.So Day 13 of my Mega NZ starts and Im heading off to Wanaka to check out that town.I arrived at Kingston and went to check out the old wharf. There was nobody jumping off it today as it was overcast with a bitterly cold wind and the lake was very choppy due to the wind.I think that the cold wind was keeping the flys away although the penguins might have liked this weather. Thanks Abbykitt TFTVC.
The docks have turned into a right circus today. A shipment of exotic goods arrived from the farthest reaches of the Empire, and the dockworkers decided it was the perfect opportunity to stage a competition: Who Can Identify the Most Unidentifiable Cargo. So far, we have an impressive haul of squawking crates, unidentifiable fish, and what appears to be a large, very irate thing with tentacles thats still in its original packaging.Carrot, bless him, has taken it upon himself to rescue the various creatures, while Nobbys trying to sell tickets to a live tentacle wrestling match. I advised against it, reminding him that getting involved with tentacles rarely ends wellespecially when they come from the docks. On my rounds, I stumbled across a group of merchants debating the merits of authentic slime versus specially imported slime. Apparently, theres a thriving market for both, and they take it very seriously. I suggested that if theyre going to argue over slime, they should at least do it somewhere less likely to splash all over me.By the end of the day, Ive decided the docks are a lot like Ankh-Morpork itself: chaotic, unpredictable, and best navigated with a strong stomach and a good pair of boots.
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Slightly overcast today with a bit of wind. No activity on the water but one conversational fisherman on the wharf. Thanks Abbykitt and happy caching
Day 6 in New Zealand First morning in Owaka so picking up a few around the region. First Mataura then Gore. Nice spot. Loved how you could see the bottom of the lake even under the overcast sky. My first overseas trip ever started off eventful with my tree fishing pole joining me in Brisbane on a later flight after deciding not to travel with me initially, but all sorted and the trip has been stress free since checking out the stunning scenery and picking up caches of various sorts. Went caching with the Qld + 1 crew while in Dunedin but finished up and headed south with GCoven on my way to fly out back to Townsville Australia via Invercargill Thanks Abbykitt for placing this Virtual for me to convert into a smilie
Some sand flies came to annoy us. Weather was cloudy and mild.No river traffic present.Water very clear.Pic belowThanks Abbeykitt
Visited this beaut spot with MummyPenny for lunch today. It was mostly overcast, but a mild 17 with the wind and the amazingly clear, blue water, both perfectly still. No activities on the lake but 2 or 3 other sightseers were there. I saw no sandflies but had a couple of itches soon after. Thanks Abbykitt.
The weather - lashing it down with rain and blowing a hoolie!! Not a single soul to be seen anywhere, not in the lake and not on the wharf. On the plus side all the sandflies have been blown away, ??
Not a bad day today - if only that continued for the rest of my trip for the Dunedin Mega event!
#4007 Today is day 19 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm driving from Wanaka to Te Anau today and finding geocaches along the way. Found it! Nice day. The sky was blue. A little bit breezy. Some cool old trains parked nearby, and some people were just pulling up their boats. There was no kayaker or swimmer. No sandfly at all. I was surprised.Abbykitt, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 19, 2024 @ 17:11:20[GCAJJVH] On the Wharf Virtual Rewards 4.0 was a D2.0/T2.0 Virtual Virtual Cache at the time of finding.
A nice quick find. The lake was a bit choppy, and there was no one else around. The snow on the mountains looked great! Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are off on a cruise around the south of the South. Great to be away. The day was fine, and sunny with stunning views of the snow capped mountains.Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.
The sun was shining. The wind was whistling. The swell was slopping. The 2 ducks were bobbing. The buoys were buoyant. Engine 778 was stationary. The sand flies were on holiday somewhere else. Yup, nothing was happening apart from 2 geocachers caching! The bike was on the back of the car, so we couldn't get to the back of the car for our cossies, so no swim today.Thank you Abbykitt
In Kingston today as we are heading north and stopped close by for lunch, the weather here today was very sunny a little breeze the lake looked spectacular no activity on the lake at all especially no one jumping off the wharf and there was no sandflies there was a slight dusting of snow on the big hills around us and was only 7 degrees. Thanks for the placement of this virtual and the smiley.
We are visiting New Zealand for 2 weeks on a family holiday from Brisbane. Today we drove from Queenstown to Te Anau and I was allowed a couple of geocaching stops. I was hoping to find one or two of the caches in Kingston. In the end we parked in Churchill St and the whole family walked all the way up to the jetty and back again. The kids were happy to be out of the car and found plenty of things to do along the way.Because I had stopped along the way to look for all the geocaches, the rest of the family had arrived well ahead of me and were standing out on the jetty freezing in the wind. It was cloudy but clear today and the wind was blowing cold off the lake. I suspect that is pretty normal for much of the year here. There was one kite surfer out on the lake who was enjoying the wind but otherwise there was no one else on the water and very few people along the beach either. Also, thanks to the cold and the wind, no sandflies. At least I couldn't feel any through my multiple layers of clothes. I think I probably would have died if I had jumped in the water (I am a Queenslander) so here's a photo of me rugged up and staying dry. We took a few photos, including one that I needed for the Queenstown virtual, which did involve me getting a little bit wet. Then we all headed back along the shore towards the car. Thanks Abbykitt for the interesting history and for the fun virtual cache!
On a roadie to Queenstown today grabbing a couple of caches on the way. The weather today was chilly chilly chilly only 3 as a strolled down the wharf. The lake was its usual glorious self, blue as & rippling in the sunshine. The lake wasnt busy in fact there was no one on, in or near the lake today & it was way too cold for the sandflies to be out & about. After the arctic blast over the last 36 hours the mountains have snow on their tops. Thanks for using this lovely spot as a virtual. TFTV
Today the lake is all wrinkly. Top of the mountains are snowy. Weather is cloudy and windy, so only the birds are brave enough to have fun in the lake. On my way from QT to Milford sound, I stop for the picture but dont stay outside for too long, chilly day today. Tftc
We were certainly pleased that immersion was not required, as today the temperature was 4 degrees, with ice on the ground and a cold wind blowing off the choppy lake, which was totally bereft of both humans and sandflies. TFTC
The weather at the jetty today was foggy and very cold. There were no muggles around which didn't surprise me.
What a beautiful view on such a windy but sunny day with not a person or boat in sight!
Found it while on vacation from WI USA. It was on a cool, rainy, windy day. No one on or by the lake. Just a few birds. TFTC
Completely blue sky and a stiff breeze. So all the sandflies are blown away No kayaks, just 3 boats anchoring to the left
Lovely evening visit here. It was getting late, and there was only one car parked. The lake was very calm, and it was cooling down. No sandflies! I noticed that there have been fewer sandflies since the covid outbreak - maybe the virus is killing them? Lots of changes in the township with fancy new houses. TFTC!!
Nice day today on Easter Sunday. Southerly Wind blowing, tha lake was reasonably calm, a couple of Kayakers,a boat with a ski biscuit out, and thats about all, except for a few little ducks. Now off to see the train!!Thanks for the virtual
Thanks for the virtual. Stopped here for a coffee from the thermos and to enjoy the view. That is snow on the tops so the air is rather nippy. Only activity is some kids trying to catch a fish. Off to see some planes at the airshow and also grab a few wanaka caches of course! Happy Easter
As youngest team member of team GO_Jack, I want to do some caches during my six-month trip to New Zealand and Japan. On the way from Queenstown to Te Anau I stop in Kingston, including for this virtual. It was rainy on the way to the cache, but once there it was almost sunny. The lake looked very quiet, only three boats docked in the lake and no swimmers, kayakers or whatsoever. And there were no sandflies. Thanks for this one and greetings from The Netherlands.#3.649 - Abbykitt TFTC!
What a beautiful country (and what a beautiful place here)! TftCSiamFee (together with Siamkiwi)
Today we (SiamFee and I)came from Te Anau and made here a short break. Some clouds, little bit sunny, but cold outside. Now, at 10.19 AM it was 14 degrees.Only two boats are at this place.Thx for this virtual Siamkiwi
TFTC. It was a clear windy day and the only activity on the lake was a kite surfer. The lake to be expected was a little choppy.
Started out here early in the morning, quiet and calm. Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
On a trip to Mace town and getting some caches on the way. No one about at 8am plus a cold wind with the odd white cap. I have had my share of swims here but not today. Thanks M.
I definitely did not jump off the wharf, but we did enjoy the view and the walk nearby. As you can see in the photo it was a beautiful day, sunny and calm no swimmers, no kayakers, and just a few boats moored to the left of the photo. When I first approached I thought there's not even any sandflies, great! But then I stopped still for a few moments getting my card out of my bag for the photo, and yes there are sandflies! Not too bad though, especially if you keep moving, which I tend to do a lot anyway! Thanks for the virtual!
Today, GeoJayne and I left Manapouri to make our way to Lake Tekapo as we continue our time in lovely New Zealand from the U.S. The weather was much nicer today and the views all along the route were stunning. We found a variety of caches, had lunch in a fun spot, and had a grand day caching. This was our first stop. It was windy and chilly at GZ, but the view was beautiful! There were 2 moored boats basking in the sun and a bunch of ducks paddling about. The lake looked completely different when we drove by in the other direction just a couple of days ago.Thank you for the smiley and the fun!
Just getting around to logging the caches I found while visiting New Zealand from the U.S. with LaFavorite Cacher. We had a great time traveling around the country seeing the sights and picking up some caches along the way.It was windy and cold and we only saw one boat, I think. Thank you for being a part of our adventures!Note: LaFavorite Cacher has sent in the answers for any earthcaches or virtuals required for both of us.
Day 7 of our roadtrip around the south island with Blue Jay. Today we drove from Wanaka to Te Anau and again some very spectacular scenery, as well as a few caches.Lovely and sunny today and lake was very quiet. Photo attached. Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining. TFTC. Toffee Man.
We also acknowledge the traditional custodians of New Zealand / Aoteroa, as we geocache throughout their land while on holiday. Thanks for showing us this place, & for placing and maintaining this cache. The ?? is our playground
Lovely sun but a chilly wind meant we didn't linger. After 2 caches at the side of the lake we wanted one at the bottom of the lake. Reminded Mrs SoBad a bit of wharf photos at Lake Rotoiti.Thanks.
Today i was visiting kingston on the way to te anau. Nice weather. Better than yesterday. Soo nice spot with beautiful old train
TFTC! Saw an interesting seabird on the wharf. We came on a sunny summer day with a little bit of north wind. And yes, i did get bitten by sandflies.
It's a beautiful day here in Kingstown. Sunny with a few clouds. There are sandflies, but on the wharf the wind is holding them off.
We were here on February 20th but forget to log the virtual cache earlier. Greetings from Finland!
My son back home in England alerted me to this cache and was keen for us to get the FTF. We were on route from Wanaka to Te Anua today at a leisurely pace but hoped we would claim before any locals.Yay, we got the FTF, by we I mean myself and mistereeVery quiet here today despite the full sun. Wind was getting up a bit but no sign of the sandflies as yet.Grabbed another couple of caches and continued our journey.Thank you for bringing us here
