This was one of the targets of the trip due to its age. Arrived at the top of the mountain to a lovely foggy view. Thanks for keeping this golden oldie alive.

6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to prepare an 18-days project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select only few of them. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the Mega, which was initially our aim.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.During Blackhoot's event, "Auvergnats in Australia #2", McLookers told us about Ballarat's geotour caches. It was a great suggestion for our Sunday schedule. So departure at 8am from Melbourne, to spend the day in Ballarat, we will target geotours and a few extras. As the caches are far away, we will need a good day to turn them yellow. This will allow us to visit different spots in Ballarat. Thanks to the owners for the caches and the discovery of places.Thank you McLookers for this advise.

Last week we had attempted to complete the GeoTour in a day however we had to leave with 6 caches still left. Today we made a special trip to complete the BGT before it is gone.I took the opportunity to grab this cache after climbing the nearby tower. TNLN. TFTC.

Out and about with our caching mates today and enjoying the views and the weather, this one has been around for a very long time.TFTC TNLN

23-Feb-24
After we located this cache and Mrs B was noting down the GC number for future logging of the find I mentioned that GC number suggested that this was an old cache and yep, I was right . . . almost 23 years old and about 8 years before I had even heard of caching! In fact this cache was placed just 13 months after Geocaching actually started and as I reckon this is probably the oldest cache I have *ever* found it deserves to be added to my growing swag of favourites!TFTC

23-Feb-24
On a road trip to Ballarat with our caching mates to meet up with a couple more friends for a pub lunch. Heading back we stopped at this lookout to check out the view and find this cache. The place was pretty much deserted today. It was Mr. Pooky and Wetjala who took the short walk through the long grass to GZ keeping their eye out for wriggly sticks as it was the day for them. Once at GZ the cache was soon in hand. After locating the cache Mr. Pooky and Wetjala then took the walk to the top of the lookout. TFTC and bringing us to this spot. It was worth the trip for the views as well as the cache.

After attending the event to farewell the Ballarat Geo Tour I specifically targeted this cache for a find. After wading through long grass and searching various potential GZs the cache was eventually located. Another month closer to achievingthe Aus Jasmer Challenge.

In the Ballarat area hunting some caches and it was time to head up to Mt Buninyong for a couple and this was next. Parked at the top and took the short walk past the tower. There only people on the tower were a couple of joggers I passed driving up - why run up a mountain when cars do it so much easier???? Anyway, got to GZ and had the cache in hand quickly. Thanks again to roundcircle for keeping another golden oldie alive.

VERY EARLY ONE !! The TASSIE BOYS had us hunting in the Cold and windy conditions today but once they explained it was for a 2001 cache i was IN !!!Very cool.Tftc

Another old one added to our short list.Sometime ago myself and gooseandegg had looked at the idea of doing one of the GeoTours in Australia but due to finders losing the attributes and maybe even the souvenir I wasn't about to go out of my way to search out a GeoTour, upon hearing that finders would retain the attributes and souvenir for the Ballarat GeoTour this changed things and plans were made to head specially to the Ballarat area.We flew out of Hobart on Thursday night after work and after a night staying near the airport we were picked up early by honorary Tasmanian 1Toolman, we spent the next two days searching out all the GeoTour and some choice old or special geocache in and around Ballarat, on Sunday morning we just had time to call at GemmaSistemas event out at Miners Rest before turning tail and dashing for the airport to get on my first ever Rex flight back to Hobart, even landing early at 1307.Found on 26/01/2024 at 12:36:00 thanks to roundcircle for placing this cache for me to find. In Ballarat to complete the Geo tour before it is finished. We also found a few more caches that were near by. Unfortunately we were unable to complete the whole tour so we will have to come back to finish it off. This cache had us tramping through long grass with trepidation. I am very scared of snakes so I always have anxiety in summer doing Geo caching. We had a bit of trouble locating as the coords were a bit out. eventually we located it and back to the car. Our shoes and legs were covered in grass seeds. TFTC

Peppa had a plan, so BM75 and I have joined him on a boys trip to chase the Ballarat geotour. Along the way we have to collect LGAs and oldies and anything else we stumble over. Of course it's a FAVE for LONGEVITY! How amazing...but not so amazing there's a wee track through the long grass. This is really a bonus as the Geotour is 5 hours from home base so it was a case of will I regret it, Im in Melbs and its only a wee detour to finish the last 18 - yes Id only completed 7 so a spontaneous decision saw me on a mission leaving marvellous Melbs a tad late. The mission included a promise to self about no geo distractions and total self discipline for the first time ever - only snacks and no stopping, no picking up other solved puzzles and no spontaneity for 6 hours did it with an efficient plan. TFTC and the FUN and the location.

So we have arrived in Ballarat a little later than expected but that is holidays and teenagers for you. After leaving Melbourne we did visit a cache at an old Mad Max location which we only spotted last night. After checking into accommodation, we had noticed that there would be many cyclists around Mt Buninyong over the next couple of days, so we targeted a few caches in this area as our priority. We parked at the summit and headed towards the cache and nearby virtual. The mother-in-law has joined us for the week and she was particularly intrigued as to what this was all about. The cache took us a little while to find, but when found, all was good and the log book was good and dry. I was joined today by Greatjustgreat. Thanks very much for the cache roundcircle. Good to find a cache this old. Cheers

Thought wed spend some time working through this wonderful Geotour. We made a plan with WeAreGleesos and hit the town. A great day for it with just a little morning drizzle. Found during my roadtrip from Canberra to do the Ballarat GeoTour. I walked from the base to the summit and realised once I got to the top that there was a road that went straight up here! Oh well, it was a hard but very rewarding climb! Took a few minutes of searching around in circles to spot the cache, I found that it was a few metres out but that would be expected for a cache hidden 22 years ago, the planet has changed since there! Lovely views from here! Cool to nab another 2001 cache, TFTC! Took TB and left TB.

A few spare days to fill before Christmas so I made the decision to hit the road and go on a road trip from Adelaide to Ballarat. The main purpose of the trip is to tackle the Ballarat Geo Tour before they get archived in February 2024. Day two was spent around Gong Gong Reserve, Kirks Reservoir, Mount Warrenheip, Buninyong, and surrounding reserves. Quite a busy day. Pretty high grass around here but I eventually found the cache. Thanks for the cache RoundCircle.# # SmileSmile #13701 SmileSmile # #

Great to snag another oldie here thats in great condition.Today was one of the best caching days Ive ever had - across 25k finds, and 12 years of playing! Ballarat just doesnt disappoint. I could easily spend a couple of extra days here. I had a target list of 50 caches. Knowing I wouldnt make a dent in the stockpile out here, i prioritised the geotour before it ends, virtuals, a couple of 2001 caches, and my favourite - challenge caches, mixed in with a few rare icons that I struggle to find in WA. I could have easily given out 50 favourite points today, but I dont have many spare!Leaving Melbourne just after 6am and finishing ba k in Melbourne just after 7 - it was a solid days work! Thanks to everyone involved in making the geotour a success and the local COs for their great caches and experiences that they shared with me.Will be back next time were in WA for a holiday.

After a few Days in Melbourne and South Coast (Geelong area), wanted to do the geo-tour as the rumour is it wouldn't be around next time I am likely to be in Victoria. Clocked up some big km in doing the geo-tour but it was worth it - after speaking to other cachers, they said it was a must do if in Victoria. Also indulged in getting a few others in the area for other caching challenges. Thanks for caches I found today and the CO's for maintaining them.

I'd had my eyes on completing the Ballarat Geotour for a while now, but with its days remaining on the gameboard being numbered, I knew it was time to seriously consider a trip out west to find them. This revelation coincided rather conveniently with the newfound ability to drive myself away on such a trip, a sale at the already discounted accommodation, a bit of free time, and two events in the region. And so, as if by magic, Brain's Big Ballarat Bash was conjured up, and my night away to finish the Geotour and partake in other general shenanigans commenced!Today's mission was chiefly to attend the pair of events in the morning, then head down to Buninyong to clear out the patch of caches there, before collecting the hides that were more central to the town, including those situated around Lake Wendouree.A pair of 2001 caches couldn't be passed up on while I was in the area, so with Medievil being sorted yesterday, Bunnies & Beyond was a target today. After ascending and descending the nearby tower, I followed some faint tracks in the grass (bunny-made, perhaps?) in the vague direction of gz.The weather was lovely today, though the longer grass here did pop the thought of snakes into my mind; fortunately, none were seen today.A small search was conducted until I eventually stumbled upon the hidey-hole where this cache had taken residence. Thanks to the Brierley & Jones families for initially hiding this cache all those years ago, and roundcircle for keeping it going! Smile

TFTCGlad to find a cache that is so old, is it still the original container?Unfortunately there weren't many things to swap as people must not have been replacing so that will need topping up.Thanks

Ballarat Geo-Tour TripDay #3 of 4 (17/9)Another great weather day for caching. Todays mission is to complete the Geo-tour, visit Sovereign Hill and find as many other caches as possible. I started by heading to Buninyong and finding some cache around there. Next I headed up Mt Buninyong to find the caches up there which included two of the Geo-tour caches. Then it was time to head up to the Woorookarung Lookout. Afterwards, I headed down the hill to visit Sovereign Hill and of course the cache. After about 4 hours of seeing the sights, I headed off and collected some WIGs, solved mystery caches, challenge caches and an old multi. It was a great day out and now time to get some sleep, so I can be ready for the long drive home. Im so happy that I have completed the Geo-tour. Thanks for the awesome series and I want to return to Ballarat to find some more caches (but it may be a long while). TB visit. I would like to thank all COs of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring the Geocaching community enjoyment. Big Grin TFTCs Big GrinI couldn't leave a 2001 cache unfound. I always love an oldie. Another great location to visit. Once at GZ, a short search was had and soon it had my mark on it. Now time to head to the nearby virtual that I walked straight past. Thanks so much. Big Grin

Spontaneous Spring Victorian RoadtripDay Three: Ballarat to Wangaratta. Weather: sensational, especially Ballarat. A quick find whilst waiting for the tourists ahead of me to vacate the tower. There are bunnies everywhere in South Australia right now, but I didnt see any up here. I didn't appreciate how old this geocache was until we were at the geocache's location and I was drafting my log - placed in 06/2001. A simple geocache to have found after following a few loose bunny tracks. The cache container and logbook were in good shape, although there was no sign of the last finder in the logbook. Thanks roundcircle for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.
Note that this geocache was logged with the *Team Warren* Davidwazza/[jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) stamp.

----------

This extended weekend, [jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T), infant Cottontail and I were visiting Ballarat from Brisbane, targeting the [Ballarat GeoTour (GT4A1)](https://coord.info/GT4A1). Highlights included the historical architecture, buildings, and artwork/sculptures of inner Ballarat, Ballarat Botanic Gardens, Lake Wendouree, Sovereign Hill, Eureka Stockade, and mountains Mount Buninyong and Mount Warrenheip. We were lucky to have great weather with no rain and mostly blue skies each day, which aided our enjoyment of our trip. Apart from the targeted GeoTour geocaches, our geocaching has largely been opportunistic following tourist sights and attractions, although we attempted/targeted higher D-T combinations from solved puzzles, and rare cache types like virtual caches, Letterbox Hybrid caches, and Adventure Labs.

Today, the family commenced the day with a visit to Victoria Park and attending Prince of Wales parkrun. After grabbing coffees at the Boatshed Restaurant on Lake Wendouree, we then headed to Ballarat East to make a quick visit at Eureka Stockade, and then visited Sovereign Hill. The themed buildings, horse-drawn carriages and an underground mining visit were our highlights.
In the afternoon, we headed south-east to continue visiting locations from the [Ballarat GeoTour](https://coord.info/GT4A1), visiting Woowookarung Regional Park collecting challenge caches and walking the Dementia Friendly Forest and Sensory Trail, and then proceeded to Mount Buninyong. A very interesting volcanic cone, and great views from the summit lookout tower. We then proceeded back towards Ballarat via Buninyong and Buninyong Cemetery, and had dinner at Golden Point Hotel where infant Cottontail thoroughly enjoyed the indoor soft play area.

Whilst ConnieandRick climbed the nearby tower, I blazed through the grass following a well worn geotrail to find this nice old cache…

Thanks roundcircle for placing this cache and contributing to this great game. Happy trails, Deanside

Over from Tassie to visit Lady membsec’s mother and decided on the way to pick up a few caches. We can’t remember ever coming up here and we thought today would be a good day but unfortunately the car told us that it was only 3 degrees and to be aware of ice, we didn’t quite believe it until we got out of the car! Bbrrr……

There was a woman at the tower doing repetitions of the steps…..good on her!!!

Our pants got wet going to the cache but they will dry. Found the container quickly and replaced how we found it.

Made a special trip to Ballarat as I wanted to grab the remaining Geotour caches while they were still active.
The weather wasn’t too favourable but that didn’t matter as it added to the fun.
Thanks to all the CO’s for caches I found on this short interstate trip.

Today the snuggle muggle was catching up with her friends for a ladies day, which meant I had the whole day to myself. So of course what am I going to do with a whole day of free time...

Cache of course! So I decided to make a day trip up to [Ballarat](https://www.visitballarat.com.au/) and cache along the way. Today's main focus was on finding oldies and virtuals, but I did grab a few others along the way.

This one was my eighth find for the day. It is always such an amazing feeling finding a 2001 cache, but with this one being hidden in June 2001 it is also filling in one of my missing months that I need to try and qualify for [atsmug's](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=353a2e8b-5904-474e-90ad-d2fabca356a5&wid=6bf98b06-d536-45ac-91bf-cd21d5b90511&ds=2) [AUSmer Challenge (GC6XVTDF)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6XVTD).

I can just only imagine how different the game must have been back in 2001. Wow, just wow.

The weather finally started to improve today, and by the time I arrived at the nearby parking area the sun was out and the weather was perfect.

I then made my way over to the viewing tower. There were a couple of muggles just leaving the area when I arrived, so while the coast was clear I quickly headed toward GZ.

Once I arrived there were a few good spots that I could see that could possible hide this cache and only through the process of elimination was I able to locate this one.

*Of course, the cache is always in the last spot you look lol*

It is always such an amazing feeling finding a cache that has been hidden for over 20 years, just so neat to find a relic of caching history!

This one definitely earns a favourite point from me!

A big thanks goes to [RoundCircle](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=bc56c96a-0016-43e0-943d-c06aa2d1651a&wid=935898f8-60a5-46d7-afd5-e73e84db136d&ds=2) for maintaining this piece of caching history for all these years!

**Cache Maintenance Status**

The cache container was in good shape and the logbook was clean and dry with plenty of room for future cache finders to find.

P.S. I left my favourite point pathtag in the cache for the [CO](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=bc56c96a-0016-43e0-943d-c06aa2d1651a&wid=935898f8-60a5-46d7-afd5-e73e84db136d&ds=2) or next finder to have.

Always good to visit an area you normally wouldn't come too unless there isn't a cache too far away and it was great to be able to visit this beaut spot and also grab this grand old cache, bit of a walk but all good including the hide. Thanks RoundCircle for the cache and for the placement here.

Plenty of laughs and fun were In Ballarat, catching up with Happy pants and Omegaman1971 for a few days. Our main focus will be the Geo tour, but will take the opportunity to grab any other caches along the way.

This was one of the hides. Plenty of laughs and fun were had. Nice to grab this oldie, while out in the area.

Thanks for placing this hide and doing the maintenance, so we can make this find.
