Mount Cole State Forest opened this week. (Buangor State Park and Mount Lonarch Forests remain closed still). We did a reconnaissance trip to see the state of things, and if by chance there had been any small pockets of unburnt land that might have held a cache. No such luck (we weren't holding our breath). The bush is all burnt but will regrow of course. Nature is amazing. But it will take time. At the moment, the ground is still very soft and fragile and the animals still need to return and establish their new homes. Any cache placement would be very exposed and covered in soggy black ash anyway. We will continue to monitor, and in the meantime we will prepare the replacement containers ready to place for when the bush is ready to be cached again.
The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park remain closed while recovery works continue. Will continue to monitor.
The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park were heavily impacted by the February 22nd bushfires. Both areas remain closed and inaccessible due to the huge amount of fire damaged roads and facilities.Forestry crews have commenced assessment and clearing of fire damaged trees and roads - a mammoth task. The date of reopening the parks has not yet been published, however we will continue to monitor the situation and update as more information comes to hand.Reiterating the previous safety message:PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted.Thank you again for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
Important Notice:Following the bushfires of February 2024, The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park are currently CLOSED to the public. While the major fire front has been suppressed, there is still a fair amount of fire activity in the form of smouldering stumps and trees. Local agencies are still attending to hot spots, falling trees, road damage and burnt facilities, and may be doing so for the next few weeks, or months even. Many access roads to the forests are still closed or are for local resident access only.PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted. We will continue to update the situation as required, and will address the caches involved once access is finally allowed.Thank you for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
This cache is an an area subject to fire fighting operations (22-23 Feb) and may have been impacted by the fire. It has been disabled until it is safe for the CO is able to check the current condition of the cache.
Well after running out of fuel in my geovehicle, having to wait until some more arrived, then squibbing on The Kiss For Sleeping Beauty, it is lovely to finally be back on the finding trail. A beautiful drive, a beautiful walk and a beautiful cache! Never Ben There is find number 3,068 for me. A fun regular traditional cache I enjoyed finding as part of my caching trip to Ararat Rural City. Unless otherwise mentioned above, I found the coordinates to be accurate, the cache in good condition and the log dry and with plenty of room to sign. I am logging this one on Saturday 11 Nov 2023 at 5:27 pm and the weather is Overcast Clouds 17C 34% 6 m/s . Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy chooknchunk.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*

On a day out with deanside and tenkae, my main target was a nearby golden oldie but we couldn't resist keeping going once we got that one, in this wonderful area. This one was a quick, for me, as I took the easier way in. Thanks, the cache was in excellent condition and full of great swaps for any kids who get up here. The best supplies I've ever seen.
Spending a wonderful day caching with great friends Tenkae and ConnieandRick. A beautiful drive that the little I30 easily completed amongst stunning scenery with views to match! The cache contents look like theyd just been placed perhaps during a recent event here which would have been great to attend. Enjoyed the climb up the rock, even though there was a much easier access in but isnt that half the fun! Thanks chooknchunk for bringing me here and contributing to this great game for others to enjoy. Happy trails, Deanside
*Found on the 15 Oct 2023 @ 12:16pm.**Cache find # 15163.*It was a new day after camping out at Ditchfields campground and the weather was a bit on and off, one minute I was going to pack up and head for home and then the next, it was looking a bit better so I jumped back on the bike and headed out to find a few more caches before heading for home. This area was my main target for the day and after collecting the info needed for the multi cache, I then headed over to this one, which wasn't the easiest climbing over the rock with motorbike boots on, but I got there and the cache was eventually found.**Thanks to chooknchunk for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
Have been wanting to come up here for ages. Finally found the time. So beautiful up here!!

After the first event of the new year, a group of us headed off to find a few caches in the hills.
I was traveling with the COs, a great way to cache! You see so much more of the bush and don't have to worry about shonkey roads. (as several other 4WDers were)
I also found out about the history and highlights of the area.
Popped up to the top of the hill, waved to the spotter, and made the short walk to GZ.
Nice views from here, but not as nice as the views later.
Thanks, Robmc.

After making my way up the Western Fwy towards Beaufort for the long weekend and of course having a few stops along the way at Melton, Miners Rest and Stock Yard Hill to find a few caches.
I eventually made it to the New Years Eve event in Beaufort in the afternoon and then I ended up somewhere for New Years Eve and I might have celebrated just a bit to long as I was a wee bit slow off the mark in the morning.
After lounging around for most of the morning it was decided to head to Amphitheatre to do the Adventure Lab and a trad and a couple along the way.
After a lovely cooked BBQ lunch back at camp the convoy headed off to the afternoon event in Beaufort.
After the event the weather was still beautiful so a few of us decided to head up to Mt Cole to find a few more and maybe take in a sunset.
A couple of the teams had already found this one so we split up just to do this one
A nice little walk to GZ from the Geovehicles to take in the view of the Grampians.
A great spot up here and I would love to be able to check out the fire lookout tower to get a better view of the area.
Also managed to pick up a couple of details for another cache nearby.
Thanks Pyrenees Kid and chooknchunk TFTC.

Great spot for a cache with great views well worth the walk up the hill. Cache is in great condition. TFTC
Travelled out to Avoca to join in the celebration events and explore an area I’ve not been to before.
This is a cache I had on my list to complete to add to my Ausmer grid. I’ve ben wanting to get this one for some time. Today was the day as we head to the top for OHC’s milestone.
Thanks chooknchunk for the cache.

First time in a while that I’ve been out caching with SimsFamily and Neville Devil for the usual laughs, insults and amazing locations regardless that the white beast has height issues.
We headed for Mt Cole to start the day, then on to Waterloo, Beaufort and Rokewood and everywhere in between which made for great locations and hides.
But unfortunately not all seasoned cachers have learnt the etiquette of logging yet ‘V’. But it didn’t stop us having a great day out.
Log signed and replaced as found

DNF from me. I was exploring the area with the oldies and I'd left them at the track while I climbed over the rocks to search for the cache. Being out of sight from them, I didn't want them to worry too much so I did a brief search but didn't manage to locate it.
Fun, adventure, travel, history, geology, mental stimulation, social gatherings, support and friendship are just some of the elements of geocaching.
Out and about enjoying the opportunity to grab a few caches, yours being one of those I targeted on my journey today. Thanks ??
Thanks chooknchunk (F=6765 H=158) for placing this cache and adding to our game.

Absolutely love doing any caches with "00" in the middle of their hidden year. This was another one that filled that criteria.
We had a great day out with one of the CO's, taking in the stunning views and the beautiful weather.
Thanks for adopting this cache as it would be a shame to lose it.

GT37 is having the best time with all these old caches up here. This was in a stunning area of this picturesque Ranges. The find was made quite quickly and the views, although a little hazy, were great. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.
Re-enabling now the Victorian Covid19 restrictions say we can "participate in some recreational activities, adhering to the rules". Please use common sense, maintain social distancing, attend to hand hygiene and stay safe.
Temporarily disabling this cache due to the Corona Virus.
Geocaching is not "essential travel".
It puts others at risk when you travel unnecessarily, no matter how isolated a cache may be.
Please stay at home.

I was a bit dubious about driving up here in my 2wd VW Polo, however I made it up no dramas. Definitely worth the drive for the amazing view! It took me a while to find the cache as my gps was playing up a bit, however I eventually found it. Tftc
Enjoying the lovely weather on the first day of the new year and in a spectacular location we drove the 4WD around the narrow winding dirt tracks throughout the Mt Cole State Forest. Some were familiar but others were not as we explored the new areas in search of tupperware in the bush.
Its amazing how time flies, it hardly feels like 3 years since we were up here searching for this elusive cache without any luck even with 2 PAF's. A lot of things have changed since that visit and one of the main things is the arthritis in the unfit Triton's knee. Last time she was up amongst the rocks helping in the search but not this time she was relegated to collecting information for the nearby multi instead. Well, that was a mistake, as the other Triton took the hint literally and didn't think outside the square so a PAF was needed before we finally could sign the logbook on this one.
Thanks chooknchunk for keeping "Never Ben There" alive, fortunately due to this cache we can say we have 'Ben' here, not once , not twice but 3 times!

Visiting rellies in Ararat and geograndad8 brought us here, after checking out the wind farms. Our OC went to do the honours whilst the rest of the team admired the view. Very pretty location TFTC xo
This is the 5th and last of a number of caches for the day whilst we are exploring Mt Cole State Park. A magnificent drive thru this hidden gem near Ararat where we have parked the caravan for a couple of days. Thank you chooknchunk for placing and maintaining this cache
After doing the multi nearby, and with light rain falling, swaggie1 made the decision to go for this cache. Now I did not go the "easy" way over the top but rather worked my way around the summit battling, slippery grass, plants that attacked me and my unfit state. But arrived at the general location after some time and commenced searching. Looked high and low but no cache, tried ringjng the CO but they weren't answering the phone, so after about 20 minutes, I regretfully started to retrace my steps, when I noticed something NQR. Bingo there was the cache. Wow, high fives with a tree etc, logged the cache and replaced it. Texted swaggie2 to let her know that i was heading back to our agreed meeting point, when she replied that she was in the car...
Thanks for taking over and maintaining this cache, chooknchunk.

Found with Kenare during atrocious conditions while Sean75, Kenbryl and wozzle68 were finalising coordinates for the nearby multi highlighting the plane crash many years ago. Another of my favorite cache types, finding lots of them in this area today. As a bonus this one also fills a gap in my AUSmer months so it was certainly worth the drive. A great spot for a cache, love the scrambling over the rocks to find this one. Thx to both COs for placing and maintaining it.
I have to give a big shout out to Fergzter for clearing the way up here. When we all got to the top it was a quick scramble to find and sign the log, while photos of the multi were taken to work out co-ords in the warmth of Zygy my Geo-ute. Cigc. Tftc
Four turned into five on the way to this one. The view from here is amazing (see attached photo). We parked the ute and donned coats and beanies and off we set. Hooley Dooley it was windy, wet and cold up here!! As soon as we got to the other side of the rocks I was amazed at how quiet it was. The wind was being deflected by the rocks and not hitting us this side. After a quick search we soon had what we were after and we braved the other side of the rocks again. Tftc
We came across Perpetually Lost on our way to here. The wind was so strong up this far!!! Tftc
What an adventure getting to this one. Given recent weather events there was a lot of trees down as well as many little branches and leaves. On our way up we encountered around 6 or 7 trees down across the road. We were in the process of removing the second one when a friendly bunch of 4x4ers arrived with an chainsaw (albeit a bit blunt) so we teamed up with out snatch straps and worked as an team to clear the road all the way to the top. One of their crew knew about geocaching and i suppose the decal on our car gave us away as to what we were doing up there. They even joined us in the hunt to find the cache. Fun times and new friends. We decided not to hang around and attempt the other caches in the area as the wind really picked up while we were returning to the ute and we could hear more trees coming down in the bush. So it was decided to abandon the mountain before we were cut off again. We will return for the other geocaches when we could actually see an view (it was clouded in today). Worth an FP for the adventure for sure!

Today Neville_devil and I were in the area on a first to find hunt but of course we couldn't resist grab the other caches while we were nearby as well.
The walk down the short track to this cache shows of some stunning views. Unfortunately it was a bit smoggy this evening nearing sunset. Still amazing though even if it wasn't as clear as it could be.
After a little rock hoping the cache was quickly spotted and our names safely entered in to the log book.
Thank you chooknchunk for taking this one on board and keeping it going for us to find

Here with the new CO's today while they performed some maintenance. Today was a stunning day to be here and check out the magnificent views and to grab this historic cache that had previously been a dnf for me. Thanks to chooknchunk for adopting the cache and bringing me here today.
Checked on this cache today and the temporary cache hadn't gone missing and was in the correct location. However we have replaced this today with a new and more hardy container, one that will withstand the weather conditions up here, and that can't be eaten by animals. There was half a sheet from the previous logbook that hadn't been eaten, and was still readable, so we have taped this into the new logbook. Enjoy!
A temporary cache is back in play with many thanks to MeAndDe. We will place the permanent one when we are back from the Mega on NSW.
We found the remains of this cache in the leaf litter - 1 log paper, a smiley sticker, and a chewed on pencil. We could see no sign of the cache container and had nothing with us to replace it unfortunately. Signed the log and tucked it all under a rock. Thanks
This cache needs a new container and a new log book. From the chew marks on the pencil we suspect some animal has had a go at it.
Today was a day for the old ones. Although today's haul wasn't numerous it more than made up for it in terms of quality. All were special in their own way. This one had spectacular views near by as well as of the fire tower/Telstra mobile infrastructure. No trouble with reception up here!
Although I chose to find this one for the placed month/year combination I could've chosen far more proximate and easier caches to get too to fill the calendar space and to tell you the truth I was thinking that I should've both on the long drive up to it as well as when actually finding it. GZ and the surrounding area would be unkind to a wrongly placed foot.
Making matters worse was that I couldn't find the cache for the longest time. Reading previous logs and taking into account the D-rating made me wonder what I was doing wrong. Upon finding the container I realised what the problem was; either the previous finder has an ability to digest plastic, a very odd set of teeth and was hungry at the time or an animal has been at both the container and log book. I believe a maintenance visit will be required in the very near future....

Nice find in a beautiful location. Was a bit further off trail than expected. TFTC
Well guess what? I had never been here too. Nor, could I get my gps or google maps to understand that I didn't want to go four wheel driving today. As I drove up the beautiful mountains, my god kept wanting me to turn off onto tracks I took one look down and decided "no way". I don't have muddies on the geo-mobile! Well that didn't seem to bother my gps, because, before you know it, I was stuck with no option but to put it into four wheel drive, climb the very non major road my GPS had put me onto, and dodge massive ridges, while it snowed (yes snowed I swear, I saw it on the side of the track as I was walking the last 100m) on me. Great. "I've set your car up for sand, don't go near mud" was echoing in my head as I powered forwards and upwards, in the rain/snow, with no chance of turning around. Omg, at the top of the track? A nice well maintained road. Ugh! Of course there was an easy way in! I hate my GPS. I soon made the find (I even walked the hard way to the cache). Yep. All my luck was used up earlier in the day, preventing me from falling down the tree during some Ballarat caching. TFTC chooknchunk
It is with great regret, that I am unable to look after this, and many more of my originally hidden caches. It has pained me that some have disappeared because of my inability to maintain them as I should.
I recently attended the 15-year reunion in Lerderderg Gorge and I met some wonderful people, strong in the Geocaching Scene. They helped me to understand the importance of keeping the original caches alive. One fine couple asked me if they could adopt some of my caches that they- themselves have been secretly maintaining, as they have been unable to contact me. I was astounded, and humbled- and heartily agreed that they could.
So it is with great pleasure- I hear by hand this cache over to “Chooknchunk”
They will be the new rightful owners. I trust they will do a better job than I in looking after this cache, so other Geocachers continue to enjoy searching and finding.
My many thanks to chooknchunk for taking this burden, and if you need any future assistance- you know who to call on.

We are honoured to be handed custody of these important historic geocaches that were placed by Pyrenees Kid. We will do our utmost to preserve them so that future geocachers may continue to find them and enjoy their special locations.
Caches are certainly fun to find, but the friends we've made through geocaching top it all. Thank you Darryn. Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)

ENABLING CACHE - it would seem a good Samaritan has attended to the issue and this cache lives again - thank you chooknchunk .
Having been up here looking for this cache (unsuccessfully) on New Years Day this year with three other teams, we returned today, armed with some further information from various previous finders of long and not so long ago. We again gave the area a wide search before declaring the cache as missing, so have replaced the cache as guided by one of the earliest teams to find.
This is a very beautiful area with magnificent views and today it was really magical in the aftermath of the massive rains we've had up here in the past few days (over 4 inches). The main road that was rebuilt after the last floods in 2010/2011 has held up perfectly. Many waterfalls were seen on the way up, and lots of wallabies crossed our path too. TFTC Pyrenees Kid. This is way too good a cache and location to not have a cache.

Your prompt attention to any log that indicates things could be amiss will be greatly appreciated by all geocachers, have a read here: [Cache Maintenance Guidelines.](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#cachemaintenance) The guidelines advise; **if you can't fix it straight away then Disable it till you can.** This Help Centre article tells you how it can be done; [Temporarily Disable and Enable.]( http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=235 )
**Please respond to this situation within 28 days - so as to prevent the cache from being archived for non-responsiveness.**
If you require more time, please be sure to post a "Write Note" log (not an email) explaining the situation and indicating how much more time you require. For ongoing issues please ensure you visit the page and post a note every 28 days so as to keep everyone up to date, or the cache will be treated as an abandoned and archived without further notice.
**And don't forget,** once you have addressed the issue, post both an "Owner Maintenance" log, see here; [Removing the Needs Maintenance Icon](http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=404) and an "Enable Listing" log, see here; [Temporarily Disable and Enable ](https://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=235 ) to get your cache up and running again.

No joy for me here. The spot in the hint seemed pretty obvious. I think the owner needs to check this one out.
Thanks for bringing me here all the same.

Attempted this one in the company of Wozzle68, Chooknchunk and The Tritonz on a tour of the Mt Cole hills. With four sets of eyes we gave the area a really good going over but we couldn't turn up the cache. No matter we will be back another day to give it another try. So many possible locations its entirely likely we just missed it. But it will still worth coming here given the amazing views. Thanks to Pyrenees Kid.
DNF We loved the location but were unable to locate this one today. Hint made sense but unable to lolcate after searching for a bout 15 mins. For future hunters, this terrain rating is well over the 1.5 listed. It's more like a 2.5 or 3
Found this Easter weekend with friends while holidaying at friends nearby farm. Awesome views, kids loved the rocks to climb on. TFTC
Caching today with Glanville Girls and Beckster22, we were a bit disappointed to see a very large tree over the road with 1.5km to go. So we left the cars and walked in on foot. It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed the walk. We made our way to GZ and loved the magnificent. We also achieved our goal of visiting a TB that wanted to go to Ben Nevis (they did mean the Ben Nevis in Scotland.... but oh well!!!). we took some photos and then moved on to the next cache. Thanks for bringing us here.
We were out today with some caching friends and our aim was to get to the top of Ben Nevis. After finding the right road to drive up, we were stopped by a fallen tree. So, we all bailed out and had to hike the last couple of kilometers to the top. Once there it didn't take long to locate the cache. The view from the top was amazing. Thanks pyrenees kid.

We were out early today with the aim of logging the two caches on top of Ben Nevis. Mrs. McLooker was holding a TB looking to get to Ben Nevis (Scotland) and we thought it would be fun to take it to Ben Nevis (Victoria) before it was sent on its way. Our trip was nearly thwarted when 1.5 km from the cache we had to stop due to a tree that had fallen over the road which blocked all vehicular access. So, we parked the cars to the side of the road and made the very steep and slow ascent to the summit. Once there we caught our breath and were rewarded with spectacular views. The coordinates were spot on and we quickly located the cache and signed the log.
Thanks Pyrenees Kid. We were caching today with McLookers and Beckster22.

Nice view. A bit windy up here today. Pretty quiet in the area today as all the easter campers have just left. TFTC
Actually I have ben here before.. but that was as a muggle before my eyes where opened to the things unseen. I loved the view and reading the previous log by brand new cachers.
Thanks Pyrenees kid.
Thanks Pyrenees kid.
Found our first cache. Heard about geocaching 3 days ago, registered 2 days ago and went looking today. Found 3 in our first day and the adults nearly got as excited as the kids. What a great day.
Our 2nd cache for the day. Wish I'd worn longer pants as I now have a few more scratches on my legs than what I started with! Cache was in great condition. TFTCSL
Great spot, perfect for a cache Got the car up there with only a few wrong turns, a good spot to catch a glimpse of Langhi Ghiran and the Grampians.
The views along the short walk to the well hidden cache sure are superb, our best for the day in the district and worth another visit and more during non-caching. A short scramble over the rocks (with their slippery mosses) and the cache, in excellent condition, was to hand. Found the plaque (not far from the cache along the walking track) to be of interest, if somewhat sobering. The 'Hut' nearby shadowed by the Fire Tower is terrific and this small gem of the world would make for an ideal picnic spot. Thank you to 'Pyrenees Kid' for the placing of your cache in such a delightful and interesting location. With Dylan 7a. TNLN.
24/04/11 13:59 #139 found while camping and exploring the 4WD tracks in the area. Took dog stickers & poo bear toy, left mc Donald toy & polished gem. TFTC

That was f-ing windy up there! :surprise: and together with all the fog I couldn't even see a thing. I guess that wasn't a smart move to go for this cache on that day.

What a spot...what a view...so peaceful up here, wouldn't ya just love to have a house up here?
We found the burnt tin the last chacher was talking about, but the cache container is a systema container, not far from the bit of burnt tin.
We grabbed the TB to move along as it has been in the cache for quite some time.

Found the spot where it was supposed to be...but all we found was a burnt tin that could have been what we were supposed to be looking for...not sure. Will have to go back on a good weather day and have another look maybe.
Found today , fantastic views tried to drive up here many years ago towing a trailer and ended up on a logging track somewhere. Much more luck today in the geo commodore. After a quick search we soon had the cache in hand. On the way back to the car we saw 3 wedge tail eagles just flying effortlessly. Left Cache movers geo-coin. TFTC SL
Our last find of the day. 9th one and the evening is drawing late, a fitting cache to end with as we looked of to the west and the distant Grampians, our home. Thanks for bringing us to this fantastic vista and I plan to return on day for the morning sun on the plains below the Grampians. TFTC.
