Tftc was out with falcon351

06-Aug-22
Out in the Valley cleaning up the map in preparation ahead of IGD 2022. Thanks for all the COs that have brought life to the map in this part of the world for the event. Cheers Haywat! Big Grin

05-Aug-22
Out and about again, the weather was good, however, the track here was a bit hairy, very slippery and steep. Got to GZ and took a few minutes to find the cache - was a long time between finds. SL and headed back.

Thanks to the CO for the hide.

05-Apr-21
This was our main target of the day and was found in the company of geotrakka, Barnzy12, Cravo10, Cirrus_WA, Mr T and Mr Z after a railway and river crossing.
Another golden oldie ticked off.

TFTC Haywat this is find #11439 for us.

05-Apr-21
Thanks Haywat for placing and maintaining this cache. Out and about with Barnzy12 and Geotrakka getting a few smily faces in the Avon valley.

Camping in valley camp for the night a simple 1 night stay with Cirrus_WA, Geotrakka, and Banzy12, Mr Z and Mr T were also part of the fire making!

05-Apr-21
Now that was an adventure! Camping nearby we had a great time getting to this. Glad I brought my wellies. A fun group adventure with FRATRA, Cirrus, Mr T Mr Z, Carvo & Barnzy. Thanks for placing this heres a fav

05-Apr-21
A great adventure getting to this cache, had memories of childhood exploration and fun.

Twins really enjoyed the river crossing and were right in the thick of things looking for the container.

A favourite from me for an unique cache experience.
__________

Headed up to the Valley Campsite here in the NP with Mr Z & Mr T and joined up with Barnzy12, Cravo10, Geotrakka & Fratra.

Grabbed some fun afternoon caches before a fun night around the fire. After packing up this morning we grabbed a few more finds before heading home.
__________

Thanks Haywat for placing this cache for me to find, this is find number 2803 for me.

05-Apr-21
This “oldie” was one of many reasons we decided to make an overnighter to the Avon valley NP.

We walked across the rail tracks and then across the water to make a quick find of the well hidden container.

A great adventure here and we now only have 14 oldies left to complete the full 100 oldies in WA.

Thanks for the hide Haywat and add FP.

17-Oct-20
I put out a call with my free days in a chat, after some 2ing and frying it was decided Avon Valley for a quick overnighter. Caching with a majority of the FellowshipOfTheTrail guys to pick up some caches around the area. We set up camp early and then hit the tracks and trails with some oldies in our sights and whatever other caches that made the list.

Today I'm out and about on the trails with FOTT members Granett, Kyzabra and SVKR_WA, tagging along and helping out with the funds is chickenhawk07.

A walk across the river from our nearby camp to make this claim.

Thanks for placing this cache all that time ago Haywat you help make this game what it is.

17-Oct-20
SVKR_WA, Granett, Allied_Oz and I headed out for an overnighter to the Avon Valley with primary targets being a few oldies and a few bevvies. We love a good camping trip and even if it’s just one night, the FOTT don’t miss an opportunity. Chickenhawk07 came along for the ride as well.

The plan was hatched, updated by Granett (as per usual) and after setting up camp nice and early, we headed out.

We donned our best Barnzy12 gear for the assault on this. After a rest out cachingball day we wandered down from the camp ground, crossed the train line and then the river in our things before a short walk to gz for a quick find.

Many thanks to Haywat for placing and maintaining Avon Calling. We found this one at 4:12 pm on Saturday and this is my find 8798.

17-Oct-20
Granett, AlliedOz, Kyzabra and I were keen to plan a camping trip. After much debate the Avon Valley was decided upon.

This morning we all set off with Chickenhawk07 also in tow. First stop was the campground, hoping to get a suitable spot for an evening feed and fire.

We then headed out into the park to grab as many of the surrounding caches as we could. This area is a haven for old caches and these were high on our list for the day.

We were camped nearby and made the walk across the natural and man made obstacles to reach Gz.

Glad to find another oldie.

Haywat SVKR_WA is happy to have found your cache Avon Calling today at 16:12:56 17 Oct 2020. This brings my find count to 4393

Haywat - Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment. We love travelling and visiting some places that we would only visit due to this game.

17-Oct-20
Out and about for overnighter in the Avon Valley National Park with some clowns, namely AlliedOz, Kyzabra & SVKR_WA with chickenhawk07 along for the ride as well. We set up camp early at the Valley Campsite and hit the tracks chasing down some oldies and any others that took our fancy.

Walked over from the campsite, crossed the train line then the ankle deep river ford and meandered our way to GZ where Kyzabra spotted the container and I was tasked with the retrieval. Awarding a favourite for the longevity and the journey.

Haywat I found your cache at 4:14pm, this was the 8th of 9 finds for me today and brings my total find count to 6339. The cache was in good order and I replaced it as found.

Just in our region.....we think! A wonderful day to be out & about. TFTC Haywat

09-May-20
An early morning start and we headed out to make the most of this beautiful weather we are currently having. Boy, were we happy to claim a smiley here today, we had previously attempted to get to GZ but horrendous washouts didn’t allow it to be leaving a green dot on our map. Today we chose our route and after a slow but steady assault on the track we had made our way to GZ, a few minutes searching then the celebratory “I’ve got it” echoed through the valley, we performed our signing duties and replaced the cache safely as found, what a bloody good day TFTC

16-Jun-18
Lovely spot, Sappers road is quite extreme. I would recommend having 2 4x4 or a winch. Unless you have the rig for it.

29-May-18
Thank God it was there and easy to find. One of the two main reasons I headed out this way this morning, I wanted this one for my grid. After bypassing the locked gate coming in from the north, I stopped about 800m from GZ when the track started to get a bit too dicey. Good thing I did as the track became unpassable around the corner due to recent rain and resulting track wash out (probably the reason for the locked gate).

Hiked the rest of the way down on my dodgy knee and thankfully didn't have any issues with the find. Cache is in good condition. All that was left was the hike back up the hill to the parked car!

TFTC Haywat.

TFTC Haywat a quick find while caching in the area.

13-May-16
Still wondering how I ended up even heading here this morning,
I was actually here ...
... parked at the top of the hill by the gate, that was not locked Big Grin

The cache lay a scant 1km away, but a goodly 150 metres lower in elevation.
Should I drive down ??
Nah !! Razz
"If" prefers a bushwalk any day over a 4WD Big Grin

Off I plodded ...
... it is a steep track in places !!
But today, hardly a challenge for the Hilux !!
I think it was actually quicker,
(and a lot less potentially expensive),
to run down the hill to find me a cache Big Grin

The track is in good nick,
with only one tricky spot where a misplace wheel could get you stuck Smile

I would rather walk than drive trails like this, these days.
Unless I have to reach the camping area for a night then why bother risking the geomobile Smile
After a lifetime of driving 4WD's and tackling any trail imaginable, I just don't see the fun in tackling an easy slope like this anymore Big Grin
I prefer the exercise !! [^]

Good exercise too !!
Especially the walk back up to the top Smile
The run down was just easy ... thanks gravity [^]

Cache found safe and sound !!
I went for an Avon side wander through the empty camping grounds.
Serenaded by a passing freight train Smile

Oh I bet the train drivers love to give an extra blast on the air-horns early morning Wink

TFTC !!
Fave point for sure ... Ding-Dong !!

With great weather and the sense of adventure we headed out today with some muggle mates and the brother in law in search of some caches off the beaten track

Headed in from the north, Got to the gate and headed down the track, with the brother in laws first time out 4wd. Things were getting interesting, reached the bottom to find a great camp area with a bit of water in the river.

After a spot of lunch commenced the search at gz when the geo daughter spotted the hide. Cache is holding up well despite its age, took the tbs to continue on their journeys.

Had grand plans heading back out to South but with a locked gate and and a mans voice coming over the loudspeaker telling us not to cross the tracks, we headed back up the hill

Thanks for the adventure Haywat these are the ones we love

03-Apr-15
Been up this way working on a project over the past 8 or 9 months and slowly grabbing all the caches in the area. This one was my only find today. Parked the geo-Camry at the top of the hill and walked down to the cache. Came in the wrong way for the last 60 metres because I overshot GZ at first. Slight bush-bash, but I got there. SL and dropped in a coupe of TBs. TN. Thanks for the hide Haywat

26-Jan-15
Found this one whilst on doing the Tourist Drive series. Was great to stop and grab some of the pre-existing caches along the way. This cache and the drive down then back up will stay in my memory for a long, long time. Yee Haa!! Thanks for placing this cache Haywat

26-Jan-15
Wow - great spot after an interesting drive down. Lots of people obviously come here - for the Avon Descent maybe? Thanks Haywat

28-Dec-14
Staying in Toodyay for a few days to explore the Avon Valley & the surrounds, this was our first day & full of adventure it was... This cache was also nothing short of adventure getting to it, navigating down the rutted old track Smile Once down to the bottom, the area was empty & we were able to hunt in peace... A quick find was made of the old container which seems to be doing it's job nicely Big Grin

TFTC Haywat & thanks for bringing us here today... We did continue along the track, but it got way to bumpy so we decided to turn around & go check out the other side of the river instead Cool

(Chwiliwr team catch up log)

We were doing the new caches on the tourist drive when we decided that Chwiliwr wanted to come over and do some of the caches near this one. Was a quick find after negotiating our way down the 4wd section. Now to go back up. Do not like 4wd much.

Thanks Haywat for the cache.

Beautiful day to be outdoors.
Time for some caching adventures around the Avon Valley.

Walked down from the 4wd sign and found this brightly coloured cache. Picked up the trackable, too.

TFTC Smile

Now to hike it back up the hill. Sad

28-Dec-13
TFTC Lovely drive down - rather large campsite down there. Still water in the river but only up to the ford. Beatiful mistletoe in flower around there! Dropped off trackable.

06-Oct-13
Our first cache find! Replaced with some other items. Kids were very excited!

13-Jul-13
I was a bit tentative about driving in. I was in my 4WD, but I was by myself, and with no phone reception (or so I thought, until I got an SMS right near the bottom...). But I kept an eye on the road on the way down, and everything looked manageable. There were a few slippery / muddy looking spots, but not on the very steep parts, so I continued on all the way to the bottom.

I found the cache without trouble, and then made my way back out. As I was driving up the road, 2 other 4WDs passed me heading down, which was a bit precarious as it was on one of the steeper parts, but I made it, and it was nice to know that they were down the bottom should I need any rescuing (which I didn't in the end).

A nice drive with a sense of achievement! Thanks for the cache Haywat!

23-May-13
Yah my second find today and ever. Thank you!

06-May-13
Easy find, walked in as only had 2wd, great views on walk down, hard slog on way back up.

Camped here overnight. Getting out was fun as can be seen on my blog here:

easy find across the river pretty dam cold

17-Jun-12
Team M-B, myself and the geokids braved the cold Avon river, we took off our boots, rolled up our pants and crossed. It wasn't that bad in the end. We found the cache and had a quick skimming contest then watched the Indian pacific fly through:)

17-Jun-12
What a fantastic journey to this cache with CreightonCrew. After seeing the rapids and thinking 'no chance', two motorbikers roared across what appeared to be a shallow bridge crossing. After heading down and crossing it (shin to knee deep) minus the geowife & geokids, we headed back across to collect them and tackle the cache. We walked past GZ to a burnt out area, fearing the worst, but the GPS soon sorted itself to lead us to the cache in the obvious place I had mentioned 20m previously. Headed back to the river to watch geowife and geoson skimming rocks and laughing. A truly lovely wander with the geodaughter and the men of CreightonCrew across the Avon. TFTC

01-May-12
Well the 2WD got to the camping ground ok. We then set off on foot. Had a look at the river and the crossing but no water was flowing and it was on the nose or something else was. A short walk and we arrived at GZ and soon spotted the cache. Did the signing duties and replaced. Great to get an old cache and also plug a hole in our date find matrix. TFTC

Despite being thwarted by gates and blockages! We found it! Another find by Yogi! Second for the day.

06-Aug-11
We took the long way to get to this cache, via Joe's cage and followed a creekline through the valley.

A very long and scratchy path, but was rewarding nonetheless. Celebrated with a picnic lunch by the river.

Sapper's Rd was closed due to the Avon Descent being on this weekend. Not too sure whether the road will be open in the near future as it is quite degraded close to the the top.

TFTH. TNLN.

02-Jul-11
Great camping along the river... Okay crossing the river in start of July in the Terrano... Road have v.slippery conditions in parts.
2nd cache find for the day.

28-Apr-11
We only had a borrowed 2WD so we had to drive as far as we could and then walk. Not sure we would have driven from the strappers road entry even if we did have the landcruiser. The gate was closed and the track was scary with steep gradient and challenging gutters and washaway areas. The views were fantastic though and it was a beautiful day. Sure gave us a workout though. How do people actually get in here to use the actual toilet (which is supplied and which we used)?

09-Apr-11
Found whilst out doing The Bermuda Triangle. Mr Felix went on his own as Mrs Felix needed time to recover from the hill at Bermuda Triangle I. Burnt out car nearby. Will attach photo. TFTC Haywat.

Very nice forest, we was on NW and ther wasn't forest like here. I enjoyed it. But the sign that it is terrain four is lightly misguided if you can lift from ground. But thanks

06-Oct-10
Snuck in with daunts from the dark side where there is NO ACCESS!!! What a great little secret spot! Had a play in the creek with the kids. Took Space Alien TB - he looked bored! Left something.

06-Oct-10
Found today along with Caddy07 as part of our caching challenge around various parts of the west for a couple of weeks. No 4WD available, so our access was from the other side - don't tell anyone in authority!!
Took racer TB, which really needs to move on, left purple snake and blue frog.
What a wild part of the world.

Oops I musted been having a bad day when i wrote this log as I forgot to actually log the Travel Bug in.
All fixed now

The last cache of the morning @ 11.25 in the Avon Valley with Askalon&sons. A quick grab as we made our way accross the low river and i almost made Askalon go swimming as I slipped for about the 4 th time this morning (im betting i wil be 1st to break a leg caching with him)

Found the cache easily enough and some shelters that had been constructed by people unknon
Left the Alien Space Monkey TB.

Crossed over to this cache from Bermuda Triangle I. Took the pathtag and left one of our own. Thanks for the cache Haywat.

13-Feb-10
This was the second for the day. Granny and myself had just found Bermuda Triangle 1, not knowing this area at all we (I) decided to follow the GPS as the crow flies or in our case as the crow falls Smile. Well that was a BIG mistake, remind me not to follow myself again.

We headed down the hill from Bermuda across the railway tracks and along part of the river, we had a fairly steep climb ahead, up the hill. Anyway granny blindly following along ( I don't think she will ever listen to me again). We trudged up hill fighting our way through the bush, by this time there were a few words being tossed backwards and forwards, I know where we are going I yelled just hurry up and follow me this way.......
Well guess what, yep I goofed, it turns out we just slogged up this damn hill for nothing, we then had to go back down the hill, still fighting the thick bush. Eventually we made it to the cache site and after a little searching managed to find it.

After a very quiet rest (if looks could kill) we signed the log kissed and made up and decided to look for another Smile

Thanks very much for the cache, although is was a real tough one for us we still enjoyed the day out.

Took Peter Rabbit (he is being well looked after) and let Path Tag 4682509 (please send this on it way if you find it)

The Recycled Teenagers

26-Jan-10
We arrived at 11.49, our second find of the day. Had a nice bite to eat down at the river before having a very quick and easy hunt. We took Hamburglar and left Peter Rabbit (which we'd like to track if possible) His number was OP35/340. So if you do help him on his way, it'd be great if you could let us know.
Was a great location and nice place to chill and enjoy the challenge of the `HILL'. Very intimidating at first but great fun!!
Cheers Haywat... Nice one!!!

We left the car at the top and walked in about a kilometre and a half. Nice camp ground down by the river. Found the cache no problem. TNLN. Now on to the other nearby one. Thanks Haywat

13-Sep-09
Sad Tried to find this one today but the road was closed - probably because of rain, and it looked like a very long walk. Will try again in summer.

Got to it from across the other side of the river. Took TB LNSL TFTC

08-May-08
We followed the track to the falls which was marked by a paper sign that had been sticky-taped to a more official-looking sign that said "Track Closed Danger" and other similar threatening things. This doesn't daunt geocachers. However, just above the falls, we paused for about 10 seconds to look at the ford and my trousers filled with meat ants. On several occasions after that I had to stop suddenly, lower my trousers and grab at my private parts and remove a now-dead meat ant. Bear_Left suggested we could ford the ford barefoot but I wasn't enthusiastic about that especially if I had to hunt meat ants while half way over. His suggestion that the consequent fall would deal with the meat ants was not greeted with enthusiasm - He, luckily for him had none and had already logged it.

26-Jan-08
Nice and easy to find -- thank you! We took the 4wd all the way to the campsite -- exciting but easy... But I would not like to try it in *wet* weather!

10-Nov-07
Having spent the night at Bald Hill campsite, we made the nice short walk to this one from the southern side of the Avon Valley National Park. The river wasn't flowing too strongly and we made use of the causeway to get across. Not sure if we should have been crossing the railway line though! Nice easy find. Dropped off Cruizy Bug TB which had made the trip from South Africa. TN. Thanks Haywat.

01-Jul-07
Fifth for the day and WOW! this one was a doozy. Pelting rain, "aslipn & aslidn" down the slope. It was not quite so slippery if we walked in the river that used to be the road. And if you thought going down was bad... just wait till you have to climb back up! Cache in good order TNLN just raining too hard.

30-Jun-07
Another case of finding a great spot thanks to geocaching. Although the walk was tough (coming back) it was a great camping spot. Not sure, even with my (now sold) 4wd I would be game enough to try it...someone had that day (and must of had keys to the gate). And picture it...today was wet and muddy...they must of had their bum muscles tingling on the way up or down!

Reminded me so much of a track I did in the Blue Mountains..even the view was similar as you got about half way down the hill.

Im going to take a mate here...we will have to hike down..but the camp will be fun by the river. I imagine it gets busy here come Avon Descent?

(PS: I posted this note to wrong cache originally - oops)

24-Mar-07
Yes - needed the 4WD - wouldn't be walking this one today. The lid has also come adrift on this one and needs careful replacement or it too will not survive winter.

02-Dec-06
3rd for the day. Only had a 2wd vehicle so we thought we would get as close as we could then walk. Got to the top of the descent (carpark and gate) and it was only 1200 metres away. Nice distance for a walk down....NOT! we should have given up when we started slipping and sliding down the road but we persisted and made it down safely. Walked straight up to the cache and logged our visit. Then the walk up Sad , if we had of realised how steep it would be to climb back up we probably would have thought twice. Well that was our exercise for the rest of the week Big Grin. Glad we did persist in our hunt for the cache.

Our second for the day. Found it at 1:45 PM after sharing the drive down the hill and back up again with a muggle four wheel driver who was also considering the drive down the hill. Nice spot and will be back in September to camp as part of a weekend pack-carry in the area. TNLNSL. Thanks for the experience.

As previously mentioned that this cache needed to be repaired. Well we had a great camp here for the weekend and put some new bands around the cache, this should help keep the lid on.

20-May-06
Glad we didnt walk down to this one, down would have been hard enough, but then you would have to walk up that hill again.

A great spot, the cache container really needs replacing or some elastic bands need putting around it as it doesnt close very well. We are thinking about camping out there in a few weeks, if so I will fix it then.

Found the cache at 2.30pm. Phew! I made it. It was Lovely River, now I understand why many people come here for picnic etc, easy finds cache - no problem. Enjoyed drive along to Avon Valley Nature Park. Took: Nothing Left: Nothing. Thank you for organise the cache and hunt. Geocoin - odometer

While this cache can be found from the south side of the park (with a hard walk), the north entrance is by far easier, though only in dry weather. T: cd and torch, L: hanging decoration, whistle and something else (can't remember). Thanks to Haywat for the cache and some good 4wd'ing.

15-Oct-05
Wandered over from Bermuda I, which is pretty simple except for this Avon River in the way...
The ford was just a little too deep for my hiking boots (and I've previously learned that they're waterproof from the iside out as well as the outside in!) so it was off with the boots and socks and a ginger tenderfoot across.
That put the cache fairly close by, but my GPSr was all over the place for some reason. So I put it away and looked around for the cache-cairn and found it quickly.
No swaps. Then it was back to the river and another barefoot, bearfoot crossing.
When I got back to where I'd parked my car, a subdivision had sprung up! From having nothing within 200m of me, there were three cars, two tents, a campervan and a full-scale multi-family picnic going on!

Picked the wrong day for this the gate was locked for Avon Descent Hell of a walk back up hill. Left Torch Took Coke Bear Thanks

We park the van at the gate, and walked down in the heat of the midday. Cache was easily found. The trip back up was much harder, so steep and so hot, but we made it!Cool

05-Mar-05
We arrived here after picking up Bermuda 1 and not finding Treasure Island. The only other people around were some aholes on motorbikes carving up the countryside.

The cache is in good condition.

We had nothing so took nothing and left nothing.

Thanks for the hunt. We had a very pleasant day and from here it is back to the car and then see if we can pick up Bermuda 3.

Had great day today. This was my third ever find. Robyn and I were very dubious about the hill as I have not had any 4WD experience before (coming from London). But hey, nothing ventured nothing gained. I think we were both very relieved to find about 5 other 4WD at the bottom, picnicing and barbequing. We took some photos and had a wander, and then after some words of encouragement and advice from the people below we tackled the climb with a little apprehension, but success. Our fav spot today and will be going back.....wish we had taken some tucker!!!
Thanks to Haywat. NICE ONE!!!
Took Happy meal bear and left Watergame.

Brrrr cold river.. easy enough to find, and a nice walk to it from the carpark (had to take shoes and socks off and wade across the crossing)
Cache was pretty low on supplies, so left a keyring torch and took nothing.
Thanks for the hunt

A couple of months ago, attempted to go down to this cache via Joe’s Gate and it was aborted due to a member of family being injured. This time I went via Valley campsite and crossed the river after Bermuda Triangle I cache. Changed into a pair of wet sandal before entered the water. Ouch brrrr what so icy water!! Saw some several roos before found the cache. Peaceful area by water. T: 3 monkeys and L: Perth key ring. Thanks.

This was an easy find after the oh so cold crossing of the river from the Valley campsite. It was nice to walk from the river to the cache barefoot as the ground was nice and soft. Thanks for the hunt

I did the tLC thing and also approached from the Valley campsite. Was tempted to leave it due to the amount of rain falling. Decided to push on - the wade across the river was a no-brainer as i was already soaked through.
Thanks for the cache.

We were at the Valley Campsite so you have to cross the train tracks and wade through the river, not a problem at this time of year, impossible a few weeks from now. Much easier to approach from the sound of things than the steep descent from the north. Once you are on the other side, no problem. As Lyn Pat and Nathan said, the cache is depleted, their squeeze ball was all that was there. Couldn't take that, have to leave something to find. TN Left: Bali Monkey carving, Hear no evil, Speak no evil, See no evil. Next weekend somebody at Avon Ascent will find it!

5:35 We found the gate open so we drove down the hill. We are glad we did as it’s huge and seemingly endless. The brakes were a bit smelly by the time we got to the bottom and it’s definitely 4WD only from the gate down. When the rains come there will be huge furrows as the track becomes its own little river. The cache was easy to find and only 85 metres from where we parked. We had too laugh at the comment from a muggle about us all being faggots. Some guys are so mindless. We added a squeeze ball and took nothing as the cache is well and truly empty for now.
