Checked both waypoints, all ok here.

Well after a long hard day on Rangitoto, we felt rested after being on the boat, so let’s go do the adventure lab on North Head.

During that, I picked back up this cache, I’ve been here three times before working on it, but finally got to finish it today!

It’s very well done and utterly impressive!

Thanks for the challenge and well done cache!

29-Nov-20
Headed up here after a grueling day of lava hopping and cache hiding on Rangitoto and finally put to rest this cache that I started many years ago and never managed to be here when it was all going... but now with some reconfiguring, I could finish it off. TFTC!!!

14-Jun-20
Logging with permission by the C.O as the cache was indeed missing and he has now replaced it. This cache has been quite the undertaking, well worth it's D rating! I have made several trips here now each time making progress. Was hoping that the first part of the multi was the end of it, but NOOO.... it took me somewhere where the next bit of it carried on. Then on another trip I worked my way thru the clues and was pretty sure I had found GZ, still no cache! Then a callout to a previous finder, then a call to the C.O all led to a frustrating afternoon! Then another call from the C.O to confirm it had gone.

I'm hoping this multi will be the hardest of the group of them, and now I can come back and do the rest. Thanks G for the puzzling multi, I really enjoyed it.

13-Jun-20
Replaced final in a slightly different place as the original hide has had all the surrounding covering vegetation removed.

31-May-20
I spent a-g-e-s here today sussing out the info, but no go at what I think must be GZ! Talked with the C.O too and a previous finder, thank you to you both.

11-Aug-18
There were dispatches to HQ, there were soldiers on the ground and there were many words muttered..... but we got there in the end. T4tc

This was the last soldier to find & what a mission. Teamed up with PageNZ & while we thought we were in the right area, it turned out we werent. 2 x PAF were in order & our mission was back on track. The relief when PNZ called out was huge. Glad to have finished the soldier series & sll our war games at North Head. TFTC Big Grin

Another one where we just used two pictures to get to the right spot. I was checking out another possibility apart from the main crew, then tried to find them, but couldn't. I had flashbacks to grade school, but thanks to cell technology, we eventually linked back up.
We followed the Lettbox-like clues but suddenly lost the plot. After a bit of blind searching, we regained the trail and found the final. TFTC.

08-Apr-18
Out with Agazo, Bennett24 and tuolei to find this series. This proved a little difficult. GZ seemed to be empty so we all widened the search and then widened it again to make the find. Thanks G-2.

08-Apr-18
Out with Agazo, Bennett24 and GeoRick to collect these very challenging caches. Having gone three for three so far, it was time to tackle the main event so we set about collecting the information we needed to get to the first waypoint. In the end after a bit of hit and miss with the first multi we tried we hit the jackpot with this one and the coordinates we calculated were spot on, so finding the information was not too hard at all (finding the spot to look was plenty hard enough). Printing out the cache information was a good idea and I'd recommend to do that to do this cache.

Next we had to work out where to go next and it was cryptic enough that there were a couple of theories at play. Needless to say mine was dead wrong and while I wandered off to the wrong spot to look, others were in the right place and found the cache. Bennett24 explained how all of the clues worked together and it was really clever.

This was an effort for sure and I don't think Team Tuolei would have found it without the others so we were grateful for the team effort. DT rating is well deserved! Double delight to get this one as it fills a gap on our DT grid. So having done 4 for 4 we had earned lunch and off we went.

An excellent, challenging and rewarding multi, thanks G-2. All is where it should be. Well earned FP from me.

08-Apr-18
We assembled a top notch unit today with Agazo, GeoRick and Tuolei to go to battle and claim victory over this series; it was a long and tiring war but we did ourselves proud with total annihilation of the enemy.

After winning the warm up rounds it was now on the the main target for the day - this one seemed like it would provide quite a challenge but the team had hit its stride and good progress was made to find the intermediate stage (although we did lose a team member for a while). With clue in hand we all knew where we would need to look, but the search and rescue mission did faultier for a few minutes while we hunted around to find the right direction. Fortunately after several false starts the trail was gained and we found the cache tucked away in the greenery just where it should have been. Cache is in good condition, FP added.

Now time for a well deserved team lunch before the assault on the final. TFT challenging cache.

31-Mar-18
After my two evening trips to North Head, finding the trad and the final mission, I decided that these multis were too good to do alone, so today I brought the children along for a walk-through of the final mission, and a search for the missing pieces of the remaining 3 multis.

I already had found step one of this one, but the children was taken through it, and it was Vic07 who first suggested how the riddle was to be approached.

Thank you for yet another great multi; An obvious favorite point is awarded. (...and more are coming your direction before we leave NZ in some months.)

Tftc!

With Jag50 and Aiden29 on our 2nd visit to try and finally knock these multis off. On our first visit we only found 2 of the 3 photos so couldn't pinpoint the exact spot for the next wp. The CO kindly helped us with photo 3 so once we knew where to go it didn't take too long to find the info we needed for the final. That's when the fun began as we tried to decipher the cryptic clues we found. We initially started on the wrong level but eventually managed to stumble on to one of the clues then couldn't find what we needed to find from there. The hot and humid day was starting to get to us, as was the frustration so an SOS was sent out to the CO who guided us to where we needed to go. With his help we came across the soldier we needed to find then followed the path and Mr Jag managed to come up with the goods in a very overgrown gz. This multi lives up to every star of it's difficulty so it's very satisfying to turn it into smiley. It was interesting to see a name on the log dated December but there is no online log. This is one cache I would never forget to log after the effort required to find the cache!!

Goodness. Where to start. Having previously had a crack at this we were returning with Merlot58 and Aiden29 to try our luck again. On our first visit we only found 2 of the 3 photos so couldn't pinpoint the exact spot for the next wp. The CO kindly helped us with photo 3 so once we knew where to go it didn't take too long to find the info we needed for the final. We had the clues we needed but nothing was making sense. We applied them and went on a wild hunt led astray by what we had found. While working our way around and up the Mountain we suddenly came upon and realised that we had now discovered what we were really looking for. But where was the next point. Try as we might we could not make progress. Later a call to the CO provided us with the info that growing vegetation was obscuring our view. We just needed to search the area where we were meant to be looking more thoroughly. Finally we found the missing object and with that info we leapt ahead. MrJag50 found the final in an overgrown zone. In completing the log we opted to remove the rather old and fragile cellphone battery that had been left in the cache. It was swelling and becoming unstable where eventually it would rupture. That would be messy.

27-Jan-18
Headed back out to North Head along with Merlot58 and Jag50 to finally locate the multis up here. Our previous visit resulted in 4 DNFs so we were hoping to turn these around. We had only managed to locate 2 of the 3 image locations on our first visit. The CO kindly helped us on the 3rd location and we were able to pinpoint the next WP. At the GZ we quickly found the information for the final. We thought we were onto the hints but this proved futile. We continued to try and locate the other multi locations and eventually we stumbled upon a spot that started to fit in with the hints. We couldn't locate one of the hint items but thought we'd skip the step and move onto the next one. We tried a few spots, with no success. An SOS sent out to the CO and he confirmed that vegetation may be in the way. So back we went and Mr Jag finally located the cache in a very overgrown spot. Now off to get out of the heat and get ice-cream.

Found on Boxing Day 2017. After dropping off my kids with their grandparents on Christmas Day I stayed at my cousin’s place and decided to tackle this interesting series of multis. I had last been to North Head over 20 years ago.

I spent about 5 hours in total wandering all around, backtracking and tiring myself out. I was starting to wonder whether I’d find any of the series when everything fell into place.

I absolutely adored the ‘secret’ path along the waterline. The whole experience was beautiful, magical and represents the absolute best of caching for me.

Thanks so much for a wonderful day of exploration! TFTC

checked, all ok

16-Sep-17
We found 2 of the photo locations last weekend. We returned on Tuesday and after completing 'GOS turns to Nato' we continued on and found the next waypoint for this multi thanks to homework we had completed prior to leaving home. Took a photo of the note with the instructions which were needed to find the final. As we were now short of time we left the final section of this multi until Saturday.

Back again for our 3rd visit (and hopefully last) to continue our war games. We had deciphered the coded note correctly and were soon at the starting point for the final leg. Kiwiscot led the way and following the given instructions to the word we surprised ourselves by making a quick find. All good. Great fun. Fav point given.

Today is also day 1000 in out daily streak. High fives all round. Smile

02-Jul-17
Finally found the final cache after about 2.5 hours of hunting. Found the first three spots easy enough as well knew the mountain well. However it's worth noting that the photos must be old because they look a bit different now. We got the three co-ordinates and then mapped it out to try and figure out the spot for the cache. We had two options. Spent a good 45 mins scouring the first option and eventually gave up to try the second. Found it straight away! We got the clue to the final, and managed to solve the first part of it pretty quickly and went off to where we thought it was. Found everything that lined up nicely with the hints but couldn't find the cache. Turned out it was buried under a LOT of overgrowth; we got there in the end! Thanks for an awesome cache!

29-May-16
Last week I was finding the information for these multis and almost made it through the day without seeing any of these ones, almost.
Information in hand I quickly found the next point, however then it became difficult. I determined that and those to be the point I wanted but going from there proved no joy. A text to the CO followed by a light bulb moment and cancelation of the request for help had me at the correct starting point - but this just led to confusion and reopening the request for help. Guidance came but it was more getting late so had to be deferred.
After a week of thinking about the hints I tried again today between storms. It took a lot of searching to find the point that had me stuck (although I did find another defensive position along the way). Once I found the point I started the final stretch, after calling it a 'beautiful bastard'. Now faced with two options I tried one before picking the other - I expanded my search area before going back to the first options and quick success.
I'm very happy to have finally completed my mission!

Yes! Took 4 attempts over 3 months and in the end, on a walk with the dog, the final clue appeared. Thanks G2

Whooa, looking at all the logs, I can see this cache has had its share of stories, I'm glad it hasn't been archived and that you managed to keep it as a multi as I think that's what it should be. Funny enough, I often found that multis are overlooked but quite often they are, in my mind, the most rewarding type of caches. And this one is definitely one of these. It's great to finally be able to put a smiley onto it, it took us multiple visits and at time I thought I wouldn't be able to solve it but today the light came and here it was; First stage found, now off to the second and this one didn't require multiple visit. I loved the cryptic message, I wonder if that's what letterboxing was before GPS. A very well constructed multi that took us all over North Head, TFTC Smile

Tftc

11-Jan-16
Sorry, you are quite wrong in that aspect, a puzzle cache is designed to be able to be solved before you get to gz, a Multi however can have a component that requires solving on the field such as this one, check the attributes and you will see that there is a " field puzzle" attribute there
About 8 years ago someone else wanted it archived for the same reason and we got a ruling on it from the Reviewers which allowed it to continue as a Multi.

10-Jan-16
This was really a big disappointment.
Yes, we should have prepared us for this one but we did not. We had never thought that solving a multicache would require something else than that is found at the given coordinates. We did not have the pictures with us as GPS does not load them.
To our opinion, this cache (as well as other multis on this hill) should be classifed as mystery caches rather than multicaches.
Anyway, we had a good walk on the hill and compared to that, finding or missing some boxes is irrelevant.

Wow ....a LOT of wanderings have been done by geocachers on this mountain for all these Games of Soldiers ..And a lot of visits !
Thanks for the fun ...had no idea there was such a lot of interesting info here !
Had to stop myself taking lots of photos of tunnel openings and brickworks !
Thanks guys...Was in area at a function at Mc Hughs, so tottered here in my good clothes to locate and sign the final !!!

Only had a set amount of time to get some caches today so had a short list of caches which help me on a couple of challenges I am completing. This was one of those caches, it's been on the to do list for a while and going from some of the logs I was a little concern with how long this one might take.

I gave myself about an hour and if I hadn't solved it by then it'll have to be left for another day. So after parking the car up and headed off in a random direction keeping a look out for the items in the pictures. Luck was on my side and I soon located one of the items, I saved the WP coords and continued search and again stumbled across a second item shortly after. Tested my luck and calculated a couple of possible locations, and having already walked nearby one spot and not seeing anything resembling the hint, I choose the other location to check out first. Sure enough as I neared the location everything fell into place and stage 1 was found. Took a while to work out the next bit as I actually found something else that started to fit the clues but not quite. After a bit more exploring that's when it started to fall into place again and the cache was soon found.

A very cool multi and very well thought out. Well worth the fav point.

07-Oct-15
At last. Found the information some time ago and last week ended 2 M from GZ, then gave up. Returned today with renewed determination to claim the reward. A fav. Tftc.

This multi has been on our must-do list since we started caching back in 2009. The first time we set out to attempt it we couldn't even drive near North Head because of the crowds that had gathered to watch the America's Cup yachts. For some reason we did not get to explore North Head until April last year. At that time we found the image waypoints for all 3 Game of Soldiers multis. After doing the proximities for this original Game of Soldiers we found our way to WP1, and quickly located the container with the hints for the Final. Our search was cut short by heavy rain that had been threatening all morning.
We had not expected that it would be over a year before we returned for another attempt. Today we headed for WP1 to get another copy of the cryptic clues. They did not look familiar to us at all - have they been changed? Initially we were stumped, and didn't have any idea in which direction to head. Gradually some ideas began to form, and after a while we were quite sure we were on the right track. As each cryptic line began to make sense, we were soon hot on the trail of the Final, which in the end proved an easy find.
Thanks for keeping this great old classic multi going. It feels great to have finally completed it. Earns a Favourite.

We had been through the North Head tunnels on a family visit years ago and were keen to see it again now it’s been developed. So we did our homework, printed out the self-guided walk http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/auckland/central-and-south-auckland/north-head-historic-walk/ and looked at caches.

Hmm, this one has a useful mm/yy placement, but it’s only been found once since Jan 2011? But old memories pinpoint one photo as being there, which means the waypoint could be around there? A bit of a challenge, but…

At the end of July there were two finds logged, mmm promising, shows it's achievable! Our Auckland consultants pointed out a general area where another photo could be, so packed torches, grasped the photo printouts firmly against that ferocious Auckland wind, and set off exploring.

Followed the interpretation walk and detoured to likely photo spots plus the trad. Who knew there could be so many places to sit down? Now the last photo – try along here, about this distance, could be the next level, ooh, interesting shortcut, aha, that’s it!

A few more interpretation sites and lovely views and we were at the waypoint area. Where would you hide a waypoint around here? Mr D reached; it was there! A nice sheet of instructions – but what on earth do they mean?

Line 1. Yep. Got there. Explored more interesting places on the way.
Line 2. Yes, we passed that.
Line 3. Huh?
Line 4. We’ve been looking at two, one more historic. Probably that one.
Line 5. So at that stage we would go thataway? Vague wandering *up steps, thorough tunnels, down steps, along paths*, repeat * to * with variations until discombobulated.

Return to Line 2. That’s got to mean here, it fits. Huddle out of wind. Peruse map. Scan horizon.
Line 3. Can’t see anything. Despair. Gloom. Melancholy. A valiant attempt but it’s going to be a DNF.

Mr D suggests that if Line 3 this means that, then maybe it’s worth going thataway just for a look.

So *** and going a bit more thisaway we were on a path we hadn’t been on before.

And look, that’s got to be what was mentioned in Line 3! Eureka! Elation! Hallelujah!

Line 4. Yes. That one.
Line 5. Thataway, counting…
Line 6. Mr D whispers those wonderful words “It’s here…”

Felt like there should be heavenly choirs at the final. Or at least a military fanfare! Wow, a morning well-spent, but what a brain-teaser! Finished the interpretive walk and watched the films in a glow of triumph.

Thanks to Sergeant Hairy-Little-Dwarf for his high mileage route march, and to all those who have kept the cache going all these years!

Found with alpenmilch80 on a Sunday afternoon caching at North Head using some new GPSr tricks I didn't know existed.

I'd previously visited the 7 thin soldiers so we returned there to grab some rather cryptic hints. Like my second visited I was stumped! We walked about and couldn't find anything matching the information. Finally we engaged the CO hotline again who gave us a crucial pointer.

The final hide was still a bit of searching and lateral thinking. I ended up wandering off on a tangent and eventually as I about to exhausted all possibilities I spotted something and called alpenmilch80 over. "Do you think that might be a cache?". "Yup!" Lets just say it's hidden a little better than we found it! Wink

w00t, all 3 North Head multis found today! Very Happy

Thanks! Smile

03-Aug-14
slieschke and I decided to enjoy some quality geocaching today in the North Heads Historic Reserve. The 7 thin soldiers were already found by slieschke at a previous visit but this was just the start of the adventure today. Again overanalysing and not reading the given instruction carefully made us wandering around the mountain (I enjoyed this part a lot as it was my first visit to this great reserve). Again the CO had to send us in the right direction and from there we managed by ourselves to retrieve the well hidden final. TFTC

Returned to the scene of the crime with Vamber determined to finish this Multi.

Found the second stage relatively quickly and then tried to decipher the cryptic code.

Really happy that Vamber was able to think more logically than the rest of us - so, after a bit of a walk, we had all the clues required to put us in the right spot.

Definite favourite point from us!

Know this Multi has not been solved by many but strongly encourage others to do it. This is truly a challenging cache that rewards perseverance and logical thought! Thanks Glynn.

We returned to the area today with KiwifruitsNZ to try and finally knock these multis in the head. After a false start last time after locating all the WP images, we knew where we had to look this time and soon managed to locate the first way point.

After some puzzling over the cryptic clues, we were eventually able to head on the right path and quickly had the final in hand. Whoop whoop!

A great multi, one that definitely warranted a few visits to the area though, and requires great perseverance, but certainly worth it in the end. +1 FP. Thanks for maintaining these multis Glynn!

gee where do you hide these are you sure it's still there?Surprised

All good

After an unsuccessful attempt at finding the final with Mikemiss and Slieschke I was keen to have another go without the pressure of an event to get to. It still took a chunk of time and much walking but I eventually made sense of the cryptic instructions from the WP and got my hands on the final! This is certainly a challenging multi but well worth the effort!

28-Oct-13
Swung by for another attempt on this with mike-miss and Lostcourse on the way to today's CITO event.

Found the first waypoint this visit but then ran out of time searching for the next location. I'll make sure I have plenty more time for my next visit! Wink

I was attempting the Seven Plus a Day Challenge by getting the oldest caches of each type in the Auckland region. Having no luck on Spring Geometry (the oldest) I somewhat foolishly attempted this as the second oldest multi about half an hour before sunset. I quickly had two of the three locations found and a seemingly sensible intersection location but then hit a dead end despite a few ideas.

Despite already having seven cache types already for the day I flagged this for another day as the light was failing to hit up another multi that I figured I'd have a better chance at before the day ended so I could get eight cache types for the day.

I will return! Smile

UPDATE--16/09/12 Final cache all good, first stage still behind cordoned off area, unsure as to when it will be ok to do, I have relocated this anyway as the new fencing now made it difficult to retrieve. Will upgrade hints and description. If you really want to do the cache, email me and I will send you the next stage clues.

08-Sep-12
Now that the works at gz have Benin completed, I need to get back there to see how to rewrite the description

Anything happening?

First stage is soon to be out of action due to council upgrades of area, could be 10 weeks.

2nd attempt at final stage but still no luck. Got plenty of fresh air today though.

took us about 3 hours and eventually got there. after a few wrong strategies
totally enjoyed doing this Big Grin

10-Jan-11
The plan was good, solid even. I'd have a quick walk around, find the WP pictures and then make a quick find. Hmmm.....NOT! It required a few visits, actually more than a few to find some but not all.... These visits didnt really count did they? I mean they were really just recce missions and I didnt actually look for the finals. Managed to pick the brains of another cacher and then I was away. Thanks.

06-Jan-11
Can only concur with Team Welsh' log. Started this 2 days ago thinking we'd look for all 9 photo WPs at once. Boy, that was the easy part. Found the 3 for GOS the mission in our first 4 and got it out of the way. Even found 1st cache for this one but by then both bodies and mind required beer. So after pondering non-stop back we came. Up and down we went till hair almost scratched off heads. To quote "finally, finally, finally". What a great multi. Really enjoyed it and nice that the d/t adequately rewarded all the effort. Now... Nato a 4th time. NINO TFTC

Thanks a heap to Glyn and anybody else who helped reinstate this cache.... sorry I couldn't do it the justice it deserves.
I hope everybody enjoys this cache it bought the weak bowel gang a great deal of fun and frustration.

Cheers Guys

3:34 PM Great afternoon walk with Glyn and Kaye. We managed to find two of the three photos and many other cool locations at this magic spot.

What a great location and a great cache, if only we had more of these cool caches in Auckland. Thanks Glyn for maintaining this classic cache.

Hi Reviewer, After discussion with a number of other cachers, it seems that the adopt-ee of this cache may not be active (in NZ?) anymore (which explains the inactivity of maintenance since at least March 2009) so perhaps needs your attention re whether to archive or not?

09-May-10
Hi runzz, it seems that some maintenance on WP1 is required - (It's not there Razz). Looking forward to completing this one at a later date.

09-May-10
Nice walk. Couldn't find WP1. Had to PAF as we understand this is MIA. Still no luck as were told the instructions are fairly cryptic so we're waiting on an email with further info. Will have to revisit for the final.

Thought this was a multi cache, not a puzzle cache. Co-ordinates take you to carpark. Without photos is no good.

17-Oct-09
Thanks so much for bringing us here though. We climbed all over and under the location. I love these sort of places and have many war memorial themed caches of my own. Thanks so much for giving us a reason to wander this far from the ferry even if we were unable to decipher the clues to the puzzle. Partly due to the fact that we needed the images but nothing in the text makes that obvious. For those that cache electronically unless it's explicitly stated you don't realise until you log your DNF that you didn't have all the info as the device or software doesn't associate images, only text with cache notes.

For a change an Auckland cache listed more correctly as a multi at least, more likely a puzzle. May I suggest you edit the description to categorise it correctly as a puzzle cache in it's type.

Auckland is littered with caches that are categorically wrong. I lost count of puzzles and multis, particularly in the CBD and Devonport that are listed as traditionals but aren't, which we would only work out once we looked at the description.

Please can you & your Auckland caching community have a big clean up and change your caches to the right category (Trad, multi or puzzles) as it's very hard on travelling cachers who are pushed for time and may wish to exclude multis & puzzles from their pocket queries.

The caching community will thank you all....

Thanks

DJ

The final is still there!

Yugeo4 kindly sent us the information that was in the missing intermediate waypoint.
So today, we took the opportunity to have a look around. It took us a bit of searching and scratching of our heads but we got the final and had the 'YES!' moment!

This really is a cache that is worth the effort and we have enjoyed every moment. We've discovered some new parts of North Head that we had no idea existed and 7 year old son had great fun sliding down the hills on bits of cardboard too.

If anyone else wishes to have a go we're only too happy to supply the information that is missing.

Unfortunately, this cache needs maintenance....

Hmmm... well we found the 16 tin soldiers in a crooked row but nothing around them that would help us with the cache. We're pretty certain the intermediate waypoint has gone missing. Definitely needs looking into. Sorry Sad

Yes, we knocked the B* off finally. Thanks to SamandJim for sending us the necessary and missing clue. A lot of head scratching, at least two possiblities... A halt while watching the historic film, all leading to an appropriate find on Anzac day.
A well stocked cache, that really needs to be kept going - this is a GEM, and one that possibly cannot be replicated.

Pleased to confirm that the final cache is still there! We visited North Head with samandjim this morning, who have completed the cache before. They talked us through the missing parts and we enjoyed the tour of this fascinating place. We used a head torch to explore some of the tunnels. The views over the harbour were superb today. We took a gecko charm and left a penguin bouncy ball. SL. TFTC.

Also logging in and out our England Geocoin.

Hi,

I wrote down the words from the first cache if that's what you're after. Sure I can dig them out if you need them to replace the cache. E mail me: [email protected]

This was THE cache of the weekend.
But it sent us around the bend!
All sixteen we found,
After going round and round!

They stood in a very crooked line,
All holding hands, except the nines.
On bended knee we scounged,
but cache final note not found!

With the nearby pounding and ringing
and several birds singing,
the PAF option had to be used
Our ego now quite bruised.

So many, many minutes later,
And passing muggles terror,
a defeat was called,
and our efforts were stalled.

WP - intermediate.
We suspect that it is gone.... PAF confirmed we were in the right spot - a great place!
Without it giving away, the underneath hole is quite complete!

We were so sure we were searching in the correct spot, for the first stage container, after having walked lots to find the 3 photos. Reluctantly we had to give up and move on.

Found 2 of the primary waypoints relatively quickly, which yielded 2 possible spots for the first stage. No tin soldiers at the first place I tried so investigated the other possibility, found the 16 tin soldiers in a crooked line, but no sign of the first stage container, so that's where it all came to an end.

Oh well.

8:00 pm.
Had a great time exploring nearly every feature of North Head to pick up the waypoints. Fortunately, I was able to connect with the webpage via my Blackberry since downloads to PDAs do not include the photos needed to determine the intermediate waypoint coordinates. I ended up spending about 3 1/2 hours to complete the course, mainly because I elected to start in a direction that did not yield any of the stages but which led to some truly fascinating features. I believe I may have entered every nook and cranny that can be entered. Got a special kick out of watching the kids jumping off the pier into the water. Found the stages in this order: 3 – 1 – 2 with the first find at 5:10 pm and the last at 6:05 pm. I expected there to be more of a spread in the intermediate positions and their relative alignment allowed a couple of plausible options although one calculates better and, after devoting some time to the wrong one, I made my way over to what turned out to be the correct location of the intermediate cache. Got sidetracked at one point watching parasailors launch and fly out over the water. By now I was very familiar with these grounds and the solution to the final stage was straightforward, even as the last daylight was fading. Left a TG card, a rainbow lizard, and a Sterling silver gecko charm. Took a small toy dog figure. Thanks for a very informative walkabout cache and some marvelous sights, including sunset over Auckland city.
