28 September 2024 9:33amThis was the biggest walk we had all day... and it was just 200m. We had two 4x4s to choose from. This day it was the Nissan's turn to play in the Pyrenees. Picking up another handfull of these ripper old caches for the day, we still left plenty up here for another adventure. We figured they had lasted up here in such good condition for so long, they should last long enough for Azrin80 to invite his Aunty catnap777 and I back for another tour of his back yard. TFTC&Series Pyrenees Kid & Mikita, and thanks for looking after them chooknchunk. [^]
28 September 2024 09:21Both dalerious and I haven't cached through here before so we were looking forward to visiting my nephew, who happened to be up at the bush block in Glenpatrick for the long weekend. We got to his place Friday arvo, and after unpacking the car and having a good chinwag, we decided that we would all hop in the Hilux and grab a few on the mountain before going back down and cook some steak on the barbie for tea. The next lot of caches were found on the Saturday morning after dragging ourselves out of a very comfortable bed for the night. This time we went in Azrin80's Nissan Patrol. He had a ball driving us around and once he found a cache or two we couldn't stop him!The bugger hopped out of the car and had the cache in hand before I could say "Go fetch Az".The place was relatively quiet for a long weekend, and the bush looked fresh and not too dry. Although, there was plenty of fuel on the ground, and it makes us wonder why they don't perform fuel reduction burns here, considering the severity of the fires in the region last year.Thank you chooknchunk for keeping this "old" series alive. All the cache containers and logs were in good condition. And thank you Azrin80 for a wonderful weekend.

I headed out with Steve to Avoca to target some of Victoria's 500 oldest caches.
The weather was perfect all day but once in the bush, our progress was hindered and then stopped a number of times by branches and entire trees that had been downed by last week's storm.
**Thank-you to Mikita for placing this geocache**

*Cache find # 11894.*
Today I headed out West to Mt. Avoca to tackle the hills and target of the first 500 Victorian caches.
We did have a few obstacles along the way with a number of trees down from the high winds earlier in the week, there were also a couple of tracks later in the day that we decided not to tackle in the Subaru so we did miss a couple but we got most of our target caches.
It was certainly a great day to explore the area.

When making some rough plans for our weeks stay in St Arnaud, Geoturtle had mentioned that she really wanted to spend a day exploring this area. She likes looking for the old caches and the chance to practice her 4x4 driving.
At a bit of a chat last night, others mentioned that they would like to also have a look around the area so we ended up with 6 Victorians, 2 Canadians and 3 Vehicles.
We left St Arnaud at about half eight and were on our way after fueling up.
Avoca was our first stop as the bakery there has some awesome combinations and our overseas visitors had never heard of, nor tasted a snot block.
With taste testing over, we were on our way.
We had a good day with great company. Many laughs were had, caches were found and some great views and driving fun was had.
As it was getting dark and we could see rain heading our way, we chose to leave the hills behind and come back another day to complete what we didn't get to this time.
Avoca was again a place for nourishment, both food and beverage. After everyone had had a good feed, we stopped in at the Chinese Gardens and the cemetery for that "just one more" cache.
Thank you to all the CO's that made this possible. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day and we will definitely be back to look around some more.

Before leaving Melbourne, we discussed the caches that we wanted to target with OHC and I mentioned that the ones in this area were definitely on my "to do list". Quite a few of them have CO's that we know, they are old caches and we have heard a lot about them.
We had today free so with a few more friends (and two more cars), we headed to Avoca to visit the bakery after re-fuelling in St Arnaud.
Once we had finished our snacks, and introduced our Canadian passengers to the delights of "snot blocks", we were on our way into the bush.
We had a great time exploring the tracks and locating caches. There was only one road that we chose to not attempt but there were more than enough other tracks to get us where we needed to be.
We saw some great views and explored a mine shaft or two. We eventually found our way to civilisation and found a few more caches.
We watched the sky darken quite quickly and it was decided that we would make our way back to Avoca for some dinner and come back another day.
I believe we all enjoyed our dinner and we made our way to the cache at the Chinese Garden and then onto the multi at the cemetery. By the time we got to the cemetery, it was dark and drizzling which definitely added to the atmosphere of caching in a cemetery at night.
From here, we re-inflated our tyres and made our way back to camp at St Arnaud.
Many thanks to all the CO's that placed, maintain and adopted these great caches. We are looking forward to coming back here and doing the caches that we didn't have time for today.
Again, to all the CO's and today's company, Thank You for a great day out.

Out on a geocaching trek with seven others in 3 vehicles to conquer a few geocaches in the Pyrenees State Forest. Chasing some old caches and also some different D/T combinations.
After fueling up we departing St Arnaud at 8:30 in the morning in convoy and headed direct to the pies shop in Avoca where Kangaroo Pies and Snot Blocks were on the agenda for our international guests. We reached our first cache at 10:45 for a quick find, the start of 24 in total for the day. There was some easy driving tracks, a few missed or incorrect turns, some fairly heavy 4x4 tracks and many interesting places were discovered.
By the time we arrived back in Avoca at 6:30 pm for a counter meal at the pub most were weary and needed a meal and beer.
Somewhat revived we headed to the Chinese Garden and the local Cemetery for a couple of quick caches on the way back to St Arnaud, arriving at 9:30 pm.
Thanks everyone for a fun day!
All caches were quick finds by one or another of the group.

The ants have moved it.
Out into the open.
Just so the bananas could find it easily.
You see, the most obvious place to hide this, a few centimeters away, had been taken by an ant nest.
So B1 asked the ants how they did it.
All together the shouted back in their little voices.
"Teamwork."
In the stillness of the day...
We just heard it.

We CAME. We CACHED. We SAW STUFF. Eight South Australian caching teams on the prowl in Lake Victoria. We were attacked by vampire mosquitoes. We were attacked by rogue magpies. We were attacked by brown snakes. We were attacked by running kangaroos. We were attacked by publicans and cooks. In the end we got the message and went home, but not before finding lots of hidden cachey things using billions of dollars of satellites and cheap hand-held devices.
A 4 day trip from Adelaide to Everton, Beechworth and surrounds.
8 of South Australia's finest caching teams came across the border Freddo, Team Astro, The White Dog Gang, Four Fun, Unicycle, Southern Cross Caching, Shonkloic, and Team Waldron hit the bike trails and country back roads.
It wasn't nice the the mozzies were sent to defend the ceches against us but we persisted.
On the way home we visited Bendigo, St Arnaud and many towns in between.
Many thanks to all the cache owners who put out caches for us to find.
A great time was had and we left enough to make another trip worthwhile.

Found on an awesome trip with the SAW STUFF boys (Shonky, Astro[me], Waldron, Southern Cross, Whitedog, Unicycle, Freddo & Four-Fun). The trip had it all including this awesome cache. There were pots and schooners (no pints) , mazzive mozzies the size of small elephants we hitched rides on , realistic lizards, real live [xx(] kangaroos that got too close and uphills. Then there were bikes and pumps. There was sweat and dust but no tears. My thanks to the group and the coordination that enabled an amazing fun filled few days that will go down in caching-lore. [^]
Thanks to Mikita and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

A plan was hatch today to meet up with chooknchunk, ST37E and Wozzle68 to tackle some of the caches in and around the Avoca region. What a fantastic day we had! Chooknchunk noted on their last visit that the lid was cracked on this one so came armed this time with a replacement. Log book and contents transferred and replaced as food. All nice and dry here. Thanks for placing Mikita. Such a great series!
Having enjoyed this fantastic series of caches last year, we, along with Wozzle68 again, couldn't resist the opportunity to accompany our friends ST37E and Glanville Girls on another day out here in the Avoca Hills. It was a perfect autumn day and a great fun day was had by all. We also came prepared this time and were able to replace any broken containers and soggy logs as required. Thank you again Mikita and Pyrenees Kid for this legendary series. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.
Enjoying our day out here exploring the Avoca Ranges, and having a great time with Wozzle68.
Having studied the maps the night before, we easily located the track that would bring us closer to the cache. We then navigated the small walk from that track down to the cache. We reached what was the clearing, but the trees have grown taller over the last decade and now partially obscure the view. You can still see the view however, and it is definitely spectacular.
The cache was found in good condition with contents safe and dry. The lid is cracked, but if placed carefully in its hidey hole, it is protected from the elements.
Thank you Pyrenees Kid and Mikita, for bringing us to this beautiful place.

we made plans to hit this beautiful area to pick up some older caches. We had a great time here today, luckily it was cooler and much less windy than yesterday. The cache is nice and dry and in good order.

Caching today in the Pyrenees Ranges with becca85. It was a bit like girls gone wild but not the first sort that you might imagine! We were in the bush for the day in hubby's 4WD and I only had a quick rundown last night on what to do! Lol. We had a super day getting about 10 caches. We saw lots of kangaroos and wallabies, plenty of cockatoos, amazing views, some DEPI blokes, a few cows on the road and plenty of laughs. What a beautiful spot so very close to home. Many thanks for the cache
A very fun day had today, knocking off many of the caches in the Pyrenees Ranges with GemmaSistema and her trusty 4WD. Plenty of wonderful views, wildlife and great company.
Great to get some old cache finds, many of the containers have served their time and need replacing though. TFTC

We suspect there was access to the nearby track when this cache was laid , but it appears to have been closed for quite some years now .
Parked in a bit of a dodgy location and scampered up and over the hill to find the cache.
TNLNSL. Yep, more great views from here too .
Thanks for another one Mikita & Pyrenees kid.
PS. These buckets need replacing quite urgently - they've done their duty well since 2003, but it's really time for an update now [xx(].
Maybe someone needs to adopt these, since the CO hasn't been active since 2005 [|)] (last logged in 2009) [?].

The hardest thing was finding a safe place where I could get off the road while I walked the 200-odd metres to the cache. GPS led me straight to it and it was found easily. No swaps. Cheers.
Went to a couple of wineries this morning then decided to go up the hill to find a few caches. Nice little walk to the cache, certainly only a 11/2 star terrian but the drive in is much more.

Beautiful weather, 4WD packed, geodog for company on this caching trip. A nice short walk in the wind to wear off the biscuits I've been eating in the ute. Thanks
All I can say is wow. Had an awesome amount of fun on this cache. What a track to try and get up, in our poor 2 wheel drive territory. We made it and the views were worth it. Had some family along for the ride to show them what it's about.
Found on a geocaching trip with The Quiet Plodder, Morphoist and Little Gnome. TFTC
Found together with Dylan 7a, Little Gnome and Morphoist. Just the ticket to walk off some of the calories after a Pub Meal at nearby Avoca and gave Dylan's 4 WD a good 'workout' getting to near the cache up from the racecourse and along a rideg line. It is a lovely, lush forest, full of eucalypt smells, Cicada sounds and we were treated to a fiery sunset that illuminated the roll of the landscape. Cache is in good condition. Thanks to 'Mikita' for the cache and location.
Found this one while doing a 23km hike around glenpatrick with Bmak. Was a really good walk and it was nice to do some caches on the way. TFTC.
Nice easy find. Nice bit of bush bashing for the last bit after a walk along an unmarked walking track.Last find for me today but still alot of walking to do from here.
