Found it after climbing the hill and being unsuccessful at one up there. Had been holding on to one as a default in case I had a DNF. Lovely area. I love how the forest biomes change so rapidly in this area and the large trees are so charming even on a less than ideal day like today. Thank you.

01-May-24

29-Aug-22
This took a bit longer than the others on my mission today but while geohound cooled off in the stream, something caught my eye and soon had cache in hand. Cheers!

21-Aug-22
Nice hide. Reminds me of the Hobbit.

20-Aug-22

29-May-22
On way down from Kau Kau. TFTC

16-Apr-22
We came down this way from Mt KauKau. Boy that is a lot of steps. That will cure me of wanting to dance for quite some time.

11-Jan-22
Took a little while! Well hidden!! Tftc

08-Jan-22
You are the dancing stream...

Had a nice walk up to gz today. Lots of people out and about! Was largely not bothered by them though as I crossed the stream and fished out the cache carefully. Made it back just as a family rounded the corner. Tftc!

Great instructions TFTC

24-Dec-21
Love stories like this. My 82 yr old mum is an avid geocacher and heads out with my sister most weekends.
As Jodanz found, my GPS was sending me the other way. However the directions were very clear and easy to follow.
I had 2 trackables to pass on and left one here before heading up to do the bush bash. Over an hour later, I returned with legs and arms torn and feeling a bit sorry for myself after a silly, failed venture I'll chalk up to lack of experience and that trackable joined the first!
Time for a soak in some detol!

08-Jul-21
A very pretty place for a walk. Don't think I'd been on this section of track before so the extra coordinates for entering the bush were helpful. Nice to find an older cache - in good condition. TFTC

29-May-21
Up from Dunedin on a roadie from Auckland to Christchurch to get a good number of North Island PWGT caches and some others.
Not being familiar with the area I was lucky a muggle appeared from the trail as I was trying to determine which way to go. A short stroll along a nice track and made an easy find with the handy hint. Stopped here for another one towards my Jasmer. Tftc

04-Mar-21
Quick find as per detailed hint. This is a neck of the woods I don't get to often; I can't recall when I was last up this track, although I know I have been at some point. Signed and replaced as found. Tftc!

21-Jan-21
Up in Wellington for a few days so went for a walk to try out my new knee and to check this one out. A bit wet but logbook okay. Drained and dried before returning to its hide hole. Rodney.

21-Oct-20
Down from Hamilton to collect some TMGT and Jasmer caches.

I was able to quickly find this after a short walk to GZ, and was left alone to make the find. Thanks for the placement, I was able to find this quickly, which ticks off another Jasmer month Smile

TFTC Sallies, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 6 find(s) of 15 today, making this find #2275

17-Jun-19
In the area today and needed to locate a cache to deal to a dot day. As this was the closest unfound one I thought I’d give it a go although I wasn’t entirely confident I’d find it! Initially wandered further off the track than I needed to. When I wandered back to the tree which best fitted that described in the hint, it didn’t take long to spot the appropriate ‘cover’ and behind that the cache. #2525. TFTC.

15-Feb-19
Bevor es auf die Fähre ging, wollte ich noch was für die Jesmer Challenge tun. Und so kam ich hier vorbei und entdeckte einen älteren Cache Smile
Danke fürs herführen.

02-Feb-19
Found it on the way back down the hill

13-Jul-18
Up in Wellington for my mother-in-law's 93 birthday so walked up and checked this out after the previous log. The cache was exactly where it was meant to be, where the hint said. Everything was dry and clean. Don't just glance in, look and feel! Rodney.

12-Jul-18
No success for us today, found the tree, even found a stone covering a spot, no cache.

18-Feb-18
Thanks for the detailed directions and the nice hide. This is our first geocache find! Smile

25-Jan-18
Up in Wellington for the week so popped in today to check the cache after recent logs. Found the container in the recent photo, right where it belongs. Then searched further until I found the other container, which I recognised from a previous rendition. This one was in the original position, jammed in tightly. I removed this so there is only one container to find now, in the easier position. Great that it is still being sought and found. I changed the hiding spot ages ago because people couldn't find it and logged it as missing too often. Living in Christchurch made it difficult to check out all the time, and my mother-in- law is now 92 and doesn't get up the track easily any more! Rodney.

03-Dec-17
Now that would be a bit tricky without the hint. Had to use it all good here. Nice find for the evening. TFTC

28-Nov-17
Pleased the hint was directive - I was miles away!

07-Sep-17
Searched for a while, read hint more carefully, went straight to cache. Not sure what connollywhanau found but photo is different container, and lance_bu was last to sign actual cache. Nice stream! Cheers Sallies.

25-Apr-17
Found it lying opened not far from the tree. Fixed it all up put it back together for others to find and enjoy.

22-Apr-17
I had just returned to Truscott Ave after getting another cache on another path so headed up this path to find this cache. When the GPS said I was close it pointed me an unexpected direction. As I had trouble with accuracy under tree cover for a previous cache I decided I'd better use the hint. That almost made it too easy and the cache was in hand about 30 seconds later. The GPS never settled on a location close to where I was always insisting I was some 18 metres away. Thanks to the hint that didn't matter so TFTC.

30-Nov-16
Needs repairing

30-Sep-16
On my last visit I spent 10 to 15 minutes here before being interrupted by an email and leaving without a find. Today I went straight to the cache. Luck? Possibly, or just more experience.

It's still a beautiful stroll up through the trees to GZ. TFTC

28-Sep-16
Fitted in some geocaching today with granddaughter Stella (Starza). This was find number eight of eight for the day for Stella. This one took her just a few seconds. A good excuse for a maintenance check from me. Rodney.

28-Sep-16
Did some geocaching today with my Poppa (Sallies). I found this one very quickly once we arrived at GZ. A nice bit of exercise and a chance for Poppa to check out his cache. Thanks for the cache. Stella.

In Wellington for a conference so called in here today and checked out the cache. Couldn't find it where it was meant to be so put in a new container. If anyone finds the old one around GZ feel free to remove it and leave just the new one. Rodney and Iris.

01-Apr-16
We will fix this up next time we are in Wellington - unless some other kind geocacher would like to help!

31-Mar-16
Outer container was very wet and needs to be dried out However although quite damp the log can still be filled in

31-Mar-16
The GPS got me pretty close actually despite the thick canopy and deep valley But the good hint really helped Tftc

06-Mar-16
I quickly made my way to the foot of the steps and crossed the stream. A few minutes of searching yielded nothing and then an email dinged on my phone and I had to leave. It's a lovely spot so I look forward to a return visit ☺

29-Feb-16
1535 After having a summers picnic thought I would do do some dancing in a stream. Two older caches in 1 evening. Nice little walk. Was going to do the circular track but realized it went round in a loop so took the easy option.

10-Jan-16
took a little looking, glad I had my torch in the fading light.

13-Nov-15
I was grateful for the explicit directions in the cache description as the android phone was struggling big time under the trees. As it was it was a quick find, tucked away nicely. Thanks for the cache.

12-Nov-15
I went to get this after a frustration of finding the Bush Bash Bosh cache.
Thanks for the cache. All in good order.

25-Oct-15

22-Aug-15
Tftc beautiful afternoon for a walk

16-Jul-15
Went back today to make sure everything okay still. Decided to take out the geocoin and move it on. Rodney.

15-Jul-15
Walked up to check this one out this evening. It was either missing or well displaced! Put out a new container in the original position and changed the cache description slightly. Should be fine for a while. Smile Also dropped off the Aries trackable. Rodney.

14-Jun-15
Took the geogirl out with the initial intention of completing the Circle Track, but ended up going all the way up to the transmitter. Geogirl attempted the stream crossing by walking along a log handily placed but ended up with a foot in the water, whereupon it was daddy ferry service to the rescue!

This was the first of the several caches we found today, and good to pick up such an old cache. TFTC

29-May-15

We should have relied on Sallies' unambiguous instructions as to where the track starts but didn't because the topo map looked definitive enough (but wasn't, really because it indicated a fork rather than 2 separate tracks). However, at the end of the road, a few moments of applied common sense logic and we chose the correct track - the left one as you approach the end of the road. Red Face

GPS reception is certainly not great under this dense bush (as advised!) but we had the right place on the track sorted soon enough where, after the 3 stream crossings, the double set of stairs is the first of the many wooden stairs up this track.

We managed to take the instructions from there a bit too literally/precisely instead of applying a bit of geosense on the ground. As a result we searched for ages too far up the slope, and too far from the stream. Also, we couldn't find any sign of the 2 branches that jut out across the track. Further up on the open tops, it was obvious that there had been a lot of recent track maintenance and the overhanging branches may have been removed then.

... Anyway, the search was then on in earnest for the actual cache, a search I was reluctant to abandon without success since this is such a significant cache, historically. As others before us have noted, things change with the passage of time in the bush and the search took us an eternity with so many decoy hint trees to eliminate, on top of which, we were looking in the roots of much larger trees than the one in which we eventually stumbled on the cache.

VERY pleased to get our first 2003-placed cache - Thanks Rodney & Iris, and I hope Gladys still gets a kick out of the fact that her cache still keeps on keeping on.
