Had a nice walk up to gz today. Lots of people out and about! Was largely not bothered by them though as I crossed the stream and fished out the cache carefully. Made it back just as a family rounded the corner. Tftc!
As Jodanz found, my GPS was sending me the other way. However the directions were very clear and easy to follow.
I had 2 trackables to pass on and left one here before heading up to do the bush bash. Over an hour later, I returned with legs and arms torn and feeling a bit sorry for myself after a silly, failed venture I'll chalk up to lack of experience and that trackable joined the first!
Time for a soak in some detol!
Not being familiar with the area I was lucky a muggle appeared from the trail as I was trying to determine which way to go. A short stroll along a nice track and made an easy find with the handy hint. Stopped here for another one towards my Jasmer. Tftc
I was able to quickly find this after a short walk to GZ, and was left alone to make the find. Thanks for the placement, I was able to find this quickly, which ticks off another Jasmer month
TFTC Sallies, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 6 find(s) of 15 today, making this find #2275
Thanks for maintaining these older caches. Very special to be able to find and sign the logs.
Thanks Sallies & Gladys for placing this geocache it is find 8395 for me.

It's still a beautiful stroll up through the trees to GZ. TFTC
Thanks for the cache. All in good order.
This was the first of the several caches we found today, and good to pick up such an old cache. TFTC
We should have relied on Sallies' unambiguous instructions as to where the track starts but didn't because the topo map looked definitive enough (but wasn't, really because it indicated a fork rather than 2 separate tracks). However, at the end of the road, a few moments of applied common sense logic and we chose the correct track - the left one as you approach the end of the road.
GPS reception is certainly not great under this dense bush (as advised!) but we had the right place on the track sorted soon enough where, after the 3 stream crossings, the double set of stairs is the first of the many wooden stairs up this track.
We managed to take the instructions from there a bit too literally/precisely instead of applying a bit of geosense on the ground. As a result we searched for ages too far up the slope, and too far from the stream. Also, we couldn't find any sign of the 2 branches that jut out across the track. Further up on the open tops, it was obvious that there had been a lot of recent track maintenance and the overhanging branches may have been removed then.
... Anyway, the search was then on in earnest for the actual cache, a search I was reluctant to abandon without success since this is such a significant cache, historically. As others before us have noted, things change with the passage of time in the bush and the search took us an eternity with so many decoy hint trees to eliminate, on top of which, we were looking in the roots of much larger trees than the one in which we eventually stumbled on the cache.
VERY pleased to get our first 2003-placed cache - Thanks Rodney & Iris, and I hope Gladys still gets a kick out of the fact that her cache still keeps on keeping on.
