Logs
Sorry foxbat for the generic log but I'm trying to catch up on my logging, I currently have over 1000 to log before hitting some powertrails in the US after the block party next week. As always I enjoy the hunt whether I'm solo or with some of my caching or muggle friends. Thanks to those who have accompanied me to make the day more pleasurable and many thanks foxbat for placing this cache.
Here at Big Red for the John Williamson concert tonight. Was here 15 months ago and the cache was underwater, thought I would have a quick look on the off chance and surprised to find this cache. The container had been replaced 5 days ago. Thanks foxbat for the cache.
This has definately gone. i cannot get up there to service it so will archive it and someome else can use a great location.
Well, the water had receded, but we poked and prodded but I think this one has gone.

Really hoped this would be here. Waded out in the water to the top of my legs to GZ. The Corella's nesting in the tree were not happy with me being around. Looked up and climbed but couldn't find anything.
GZ is flooded so the closest we got is 28 metres standing on the shore of the lake.
Yep, like the previous poster, after assailing Big Red, and approaching the GZ to find 46 metres of water twixt me and the likely spot.
hoping for the 1st find for day,
but there was 46 metres of water between us and cache
enjoyed Big Red instead

Was here with hippihiiri but alas standing on the edge of the lake we were still 33 metres from GZ. We could see a likely spot but as we didn't have the scuba gear today we thought that we would give it a miss. Hopefully the water will retreat in the near future and this cache can become active again.
Oh no! Just a few meters (54!!!) missing to GZ. But I also got a DNS (did not swim)...
Happy caching next time says Poparni (Germany)!

We arrived at Big Red at noon and cruised over to find Lake Nappanerica still dominating the landscape and rendering the cache unapproachable! Further on we spotted a wedgetail eagle's nest and two lovely birds on it plus the largest bearded dragon we saw on our trip ! So not a complete dead loss! Thanks anyway!
Returned today to Big red only to find more water than last year. The track on the eastern side from big red to little red was even under water. Amazing site and a lot longer detour to Birdsville now 52k. Thx foxbat
We'll add our log to the list of DNS - Did Not Swims!
Great trip all the same - the detour in place is a great adventure in itself!
Thanks for the cache all the same.

Got to withing 50 meters but not keen on a swim this morning. Needs a little more evaporation!
Great spot
Birdsville races were great what there was of them.
Great fun in town locked in due to the rain

We did Big Red and Little Red, but heinz tomato sauce was a bit out of our league, was a bit nippy for a swim today.
We too were close, made it up Big Red on both sides with the trailer on, only two of cars came up as mine and the other 200 had alternator problems.
Another time.

I swam out to GZ which was 50m from the shore. Climbed on to the tree but couldn't find the cache. The water was a least 2.5m deep as I couldn't touch the bottom so not sure what height the cache was at but its underwater. Thx Foxbat for the swim
After enjoying Big Red we thought we would check out this cache.

I was in the area and itis very wet.
There is a detour in place to Big Red due to all the water.
I imagine his will need some serious work in 6 months time.
Unless you up the terrain rating and make it an under water cache.

Went looking at the local scenery and realised that we were close to this one so went looking.
Took a trip out to Big Red to have a look and go. No problems finding the cache or going over Big Red. A note was left in the log book by a French tourist (muggle) who was looking for reptiles stated that it sounded like a good game but silly. He replaced the cache as it should have been. TFTC TNLN SL
After a hard week crossing the Simpson Desert I was happy to get to "Big Red" and nab this cache.

On our outback holiday. Some conquered the nearby challenge first time. Lots of fun, lots of spectators. E found this one. Left our gnome.
A good find just before we hit the 1100 sand dunes on our way to Dalhousie Springs and a nice hot swim.
Wondered why the Nissan struggled over the top of Big Red - was still in 2WD.

We did a bit of a trip out here from Birdsville and did a quick up and over of Big Red from West to East.
As expected the Nissan performed the task admirably with Renae in the back seat loving every minute of it. Mum & Aislin however were not so keen - Mum even threatened to get out and walk.
Cache recently replaced and we replaced all the swaps with more interesting stuff.

Over big red with no problems for the mighty Prado. We had a cup of 'Big Red' Heinze tomato soup while here - fitting!
First found this cache in August '06. Today we found the container on the ground looking as if it had been chewed by a dingo, it's contents everywhere and the log shredded. We replaced the container and log book. Afraid we were flying blind and called it 'Heinz Big Red" in the log book. The thing is though it is back in good condition in its old hiding place.
Dropped in Freddy the Frog TB and Richlinks Rainforest Jewel GC for a very short visit.

14.30: We went out to have a bit of fun the day after the Birdsville Races. It had been a very busy day out there, but it was still an easy find with Team Yota.
Found @ 1250.
Found with ggkof whilst on our great Simpson Desert adventure. After playing on Big Red for a while, we headed down to the cache area to reinflate the tires after the desert crossing. Plenty of birds screeching at us. TNLN.

after 2 weeks in the northern simpson on the madigan line we called in for our last hill before re inflating. we had a play but as there had been rain a few weeks before it was ok and we all marched over the top without trouble one almost making it in 2 wd. a few others were having problems but 45lb not the right tyre pressure. tnln and i didnt notice the tb thanks sid
Found easily, and then went up the dune to watch a few people tackle it, what fun,
It was pretty windy on the way out there, and amazingly enough we had to do our first decent water crossing on any of out 4WD trips, and naturally I had to wade across the freezing lake to check there wasn't a sudden drop off
TNLN
Thanks,

Found at 11:15 - the 12th cache on leechie's and my Birdsville trip. We had actually played on Big Red a couple of days earlier - the photos attached are from that day, not the day of the cache find. Leechie's 4wd'ing expertise at the wheel of the mighty GeoPrado meant that we made it up first go. Then, after successfully repeating the same feat several times again, we sat up the top and watched the other 4wd'ers hit and miss (drop your tyres to 16psi, everybody). It was a perfect day except for baking in the hot sun, and we resolved to collect this cache on the way back from Poeppel Corner.
When we did so a couple of days later, it was horrible out there. The wind was now blowing a gale, and sand was of course going everywhere. Still, leechie got to show his skill once more (up again, first try), and got some amazing photos. The cache was a quick and easy find. The contrast between both sides of Big Red was amazing. Thanks for placing a cache at such an iconic place, foxbat

As part of our Trakmaster East-West Trek, we left the vans in the caravan park at Birdsville and came out to Big Red for a play.
Trev in DISCO3 was the first of our group to conquer Big Red, and shortly after, Caz helped Corry with her first cache find.

Had heaps of fun on Big Red. No log book or pencil so we replaced them. Found with Jortech on our Simpson Desert Trek. Will post a photo soon.
Finally got around to finding this... have driven passed it many times while others in our convoy have found it over the years. One of my all time favorite spots. The flood water had messed it up a bit. Thanx
Found this cache after camping the night close by and driving the sand dunes during the day. Was a very windy day but cache remained in tact. Took Hong Kong 1c Coin left mcdonalds key ring.

Great spot for a cache. Missed the real big red last time we were here so good to see the real thing. Left a Key case and took Crikey for some further travels.
We were here during the races muggles all around made it look like we were pumping up tyres close to gz then the casual walk around and figured where it was grabed it filled in the log and put it back tftc tnln it's all about the find
found while at the birdsville races, played in the sand for a while then picked this one up, easy found, tnln
We had a great time playing on dune. Went to this one wile we were at the Birdsville Races.
Found after our trip down the Hay river and conquering Big Red once more. Not a hard find but worth the effort.

A shampoo container had leaked inside it so I spent some time cleaning it out .

Was passing through Birdsville and took a drive out here to show the son. Who knows what eleven year olds think when I mentioned Big Red but he was disapointed when we got there think there was going to be this mountain of sand as he puts it "as big as Kosciousko".
As we leave the cache he has this disapointed look and says now I wont know what its like to conqer Big Red. So like a dill I turn around and go over for him. The hard part of this whole exercise was getting back. Which I should have known from my last journey over a couple of years ago. That last little kick up is the killer. As the sun was setting my fifth attempt was the successful one. GeoBrett in the meantime played on the dune whilst all this was happening having a good time.
We took nothing and Left nothing.
Thanks for the cache.

"Young Ones" Conquered Big Red both ways. Had Big Red to ourselves on a quiet Sunday morning. Took bear fridge magnet and left a lady bird.
Our 11th cache on our "Bight to Gulf" 4WD Adventuretour for 2005.Stayed in Birdsville for the night just so we could go and have a day playing out at "Big Red" . The cache was a bonus game to play. Heade out what a fabulous run, we seemed to get there to quick. Vehicles crossing dune both ways, we also tried with success. Then to follow the GPS readings. It was telling us the cache was some 2 kilometers away. The penny dropped, this was not the real Big Red.(I wonder how many others have thought it was?) Followed the track to the right. Now we are getting closer. The corellers are all flying around and sitting in the trees. Is this a clue? There were a lot of muggles walking and driving around, we had found it but could not do anything untill we were alone. So we had some tries at the Real Big Red. It is far more Challanging. Up and over the 2 vehicles went without any trouble. Us two girls climbed-crawled to the top then had a slippery slid down, Oh what fun. "You are only young once" Lots of flies.
Took..Red key tag.......Left..Bear fridge magnet.
Thanks Foxbat for a great cache ,Had a great day and adventure.

Found it after conquering Big Red. This was after first cruising over a another track in the same dune, thinking it was Big Red. Big Red is labelled but you only see it if you approach it from the Simpson Desert, not fron Birdsville. Can't remember what I took but left some coffee sachets.
Got to Big Red at around 12 noon after crossing the desert over four days. Saw a group a vehicles trying to get over the top, but no-one could make it. So we waited for our turn, reved up the turbo-diesel and flew over the top first go. Oh what a feeling - and it's a Nissan! Waited on the top for our friends to join us and took many fantastic photo's. Thanks foxbat for a great cache.

A long drive to get to this one. But it's just somewhere you HAVE to go to. Had nothing to swap. After this we drove down the Birdsville Track (in the rain & mud) and were stranded at the Mungerannie pub for 3 nights. Not a bad place to be stranded.
