What, at first I thought was an Eastern Brown turned out, on closer inspection of my photo, to actually be a Tiger snake. As he slithered away from us and the cache, I felt confident enough to continue my search.Shortly thereafter, we had the cache in hand.Certainly a memorable geocache, not just for its geological significance.
Well, that was quite an experience!Rod went to step out of the car and noticed a long Tiger Snake sunning itself about 2 metres away.I moved the car forward a few metres and he got out carefully to look for the cache. As soon as the door closed the Tiger slithered away from us, into the long grass. Not wasting any time, n0w0rries grabbed the cache, stamped the log and returned it to its hiding place.Whew!!!
After spending some time in the Southern Grampians we were slowly making our way to Warrnambool for Xmas (not the most direct route but one we hadn't traveled before)Another very interesting site, the volume of the lava was impressive or it would have been. Don't fancy being at GZ back in those days.Cache was found when we applied a bit of geocaching logic to it even though the GPS was out a bitTFTC
After a couple of recent DNFs, we stopped by here today for a maintenance check. Happy to find the cache still snug and dry, right where we hid it. There are some prickly weeds close by. Cache is in the clear now but, if they keep spreading, future visitors may need gloves while searching.
Suscoe was heading home today after a few days in the far Western District and we even had a short across border excursion to Naracoorte as well.
It was a cold and drizzly rain day from Hamilton to Colac via caches to the south of Hamilton and across to Port Campbell and timboon. Once we hit the divided road to the east of Colac the drizzle stopped but we could still see it over the Otways.
We saw wonderful countryside again, so green, very wet in the paddocks, on the road side and even on the roads as well.
Lots of sheep, cows, alpacas at times, dogs the ocean and plantations. And not to forget Volcanic events and landscape features.
Thanks to maccamob for showing us this location. The cattle were not impressed with Mr S as he searched for the cache. They took off at a great rate of knots.

These blisters are very obvious unlike some other locations I have visited. Thanks for bringing me here today.
We took a bit of a detour returning home after a week spent in the crappy La Niña weather, over in Mount Gambier and Millicent.
As per typical, today is our first dry and gorgeous day!
It was a quick and easy find.
There is a good deal of water on both sides of the road here. We were wondering if there is usually any water here under ‘normal’ weather conditions.
(We are probably starting to rethink “what Is normal?”
We managed to see a feral cat crossing the road close to this blister crop on our return, unfortunately, but the frogs were going gang busters and we did spot several species of large birds of prey.

Dropped by this afternoon. Dried the container and added a new Rite-in-the-Rain log. Don't think we've ever seen water here like today.
Was hard to find but after a bit more looking there it was water had got in at some stage

On a leisurely drive through Western Victoria, listening to the ABC Classic 100 and finding the occasional cache, while we head to Millicent for a week of geocaching. We must follow up on the Volcanoes Discovery Trail info, it sounds fascinating. Ended up with a PAF to the CO to eventually locate what was a well hidden cache.
Thanks maccamob placing caches in interesting locations.

Tha lava blisters are amazing, but not so the cache. Coords took me a few metres inside the gate, and to prickly bushes along the fence line. Half an hour of searching, lots of scratches and blood, but no ca he, sadly. If it's on the other side of the fence, there is no access from road, all fences seem to have recently been restrung.
Very interesting place, and apparently only one of 3 sites in the world. quick find after wondering around.TFTC.
Grew up in this area and had never heard of this place until I read about it last year. Back visiting family so thought we'd pop in. Thanks for our first Victorian cache!
This is such an interesting area and the volcanic action happened about 8000 years ago which seems quite recent as far as the history of the planet goes. I can’t believe we are walking around on top of all this molten stuff. The cache was found very easily.
It was home time today and I had just 3 special caches picked out (all Maccamob ones)! We zig zagged to here. Amazing what you find down a little country road. No way would we ever come here if I wasn’t a cacher. Thanks for bringing us here. Fantastic history. Thanks for the cache.
Disabled for the duration of the renewed Covid-19 lockdown. We believe the responsible thing is to disable all our caches until this latest crisis passes.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Last find for awhile i think as lock down to be back with us, stay safe. TFTC Duntulum
Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. Although exercise is ok, beaches, parks etc are gradually being closed, and we are being asked to stay home. The virus can be transmitted by surface contact, so please don't take the chances. Geocaching is a game, and we are dealing with a serious Public Health issue, so we need to get our priorities in order. Please stay at home!
We believe the responsible thing is to disable all our caches, until this crisis passes.
Thanks.

Today FeatherWaite and I headed to Warrnambool from Adelaide for a few days of caching in south-western Victoria/south-eastern South Australia.
We had some specific areas and caches that we were targeting, but also took the opportunity to find a few other caches along the way. It was quite a warm day, so that limited us a bit in what we could do and so we had to leave some of the more strenuous caches for another time.
The lava blisters are really impressive! And a nice easy find as well!
Thanks maccamob for the cache.

Found and signed during a caching trip with e.gregory1 to south-western Victoria and south-eastern South Australia for a few days. Day 1 saw us travel from Adelaide to Keith, the back-roads past Bordertown to Frances, Edenhope, Harrow, Coleraine, Wannan, Hamilton, Byaduk, Koroit and down to Warrnambool. That night we camped out behind the coastal dunes west of Warrnambool after collecting a sprinkling of local caches. On day 2 we returned to find a few caches around Tower Hill before heading through Port Fairy to Portland, spending the rest of an unpleasantly hot and windy day around Portland and camping out nearby. On day 3 we drove from Portland to Nelson with a detour to Dartmoor, then back to Ewen Ponds, Port MacDonnell, and a circuitous route up to Mt Gambier with a solid days' caching culminating in some rewarding finds around the Lakes. We were very lucky to locate a very pleasant campsite a few kilometres out of town in Xanthorrhoea (grass tree) mixed eucalypt woodland for the night. The final day saw us travel to Millicent to complete the SFE Challenge series, then to Kingston, Salt Creek, Meningie, Tailem Bend, Murray Bridge and return back home. All in all a very eventful and fruitful trip with some great cache finds, some easy drive-bys, challenging tree climbs, a number of strenuous walks and visits to many scenic locations. We found an assortment of traditionals, puzzles, multis, earthcaches, letterboxes and virtuals, including a rewarding first-to-find, a wide range of difficulty-terrain combinations and detours to locate some unloved caches.
Thanks for the cache maccamob!
Thanks for the cache maccamob!
We took the family tag will re hide at another location once we track where it has been
Lava blisters!!! Who would’ve thought. Don’t let the hints of blue sky fool you, the weather was poor. We walked through the paddock and climbed a blister. I can’t believe how many were here!! TFTC and showing off Victoria’s tumuli
A very interesting stop on our GeoTour. TFTC maccamob. Found 13/10/19 4:07 pm. Cache 1789 for us.

There really are times when we wish we had a time machine that could take us back to places when the events were actually occurring - and this is one of those times and places. TFTC
TFTC Thank you for hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity. in area.
So 9 months later after our DNF we found this cache in less than a minute. Not so overgrown this time. Still a magnificent area. Took a glitter jar and left a shovel. TFTC
A quick search had this in our hands and our names signed. We love these type of cache; the ones that take you somewhere unique and show you out of the ordinary.

Nice easy find, lava blisters looked incredible! Found with mellybeans_ on her bday TFTC!
My next stop on my day caching the volcanic district brought me here. I was really amazed by the tumuli, i hadn't even heard of them before today. Cache nicely hidden but not too hard to find with the great coords. CIGC
What an awesome series with along the Volcanoes Discovery Trail , we would have loved to have been able to Derringer's "What a Blast" cache also, but long before our day. As we drove along the road we could see your alien spaceships blistering their way out from the earths surface trying to escape back to another universe or so it seems.
The cache was sorted our quickly as it was the second place we looked and with spot on coordinates we are not sure why the previous cacher had a DNF on an obvious hide.
Then it was photo time with the blisters.
Thanks maccamob for bringing us here to this volcanic area.

So absolutely gutted! You would think that after 477 finds we could at least find a 1/1 but it was not to be. Thank goodness the drive was still worth it with the magnificent lava blisters being even better than we imagined.
Was disappointed due to it being my return search after not geocaching for the last 4 to 5 years.
Close to home though so will give it another go at some point. Hoping it's still there. Will keep a watch out on future posts to see if others find it

A solo roadtrip through the South West, exploring the countryside.
The day was nearing end and I was grabbing what I could enroute home. What interesting place Victoria is, diversity and wander galore. Thanks Maccamob for this series.

Nearly put a dnf in, but last ditched effort before lost light found it.... Well done great sote
My first day of caching in a group. Thanks Happy pants, Yoshi Warriors and Geo muppetz for a fantasic day. TFTC
This was one cache that we quickly located this afternoon while caching in the area, in all we had tackled caches in some caves, other deep holes, old volcano mountain tops, lava tubes, lava flows and now also some blisters to top it off. Thanks maccamob for the hide and for showing us some of these fascinating features of this area.
Out for a day of caching with Happy pants, Geo muppetz & chrisant2017 to Mt Eccles & surrounds. We certainly are spoiled in this part of the country with such awesome natural features. We soon had the cache in hand and were welcomed with a fresh log. Thanks maccamob for bringing me here.
Add another smilie.
Spent the day caching with Happy Pants (driving), Yoshi Warriors (chief in charge) & chrisant2017 (learning the game) this was #10.

Called in to check on the cache. Replaced the log sheet, as it was getting on towards full.
Found on our way home after an awesome three day break in the Portland region.
By golly, we can now see why everyone recommends a trip down this way to see the Harman Valley and these lava blisters. A very amazing snapshot of an era long ago. We have only scraped the surface of exploration of these volcanic plains (via caching of course) so we will simply have to come back.
TFTC and for bringing us here maccamob.

Wow, amazing formations. Their ability to blend into the environment is interesting....almost camo. Thanks for brining me here today maccamob, lots of water lying around but picturesque countryside.
another late log - cache found about dec 2012 with L plater - a lot of very enjoyable drives and caching with grandson - amazing and unique area tftc daisy and alister
Wow what a unique landscape. Don't know if we were meant too but walked in and had a good look at them.
Thanks for bringing us here.
Thanks for bringing us here.
Found after our trip to SA where we were officials with the 1986 Statebank Discover Trail ReRun. Am ticking off some of the older caches around and am blessed to have family in both Hamilton and Portland. Really want to find time to do more of this Vulcan series. Loved teaching my son more about volcanoes. Fascinating geology.
A quick find while taking students out to explore the area! Signed and replaced. TFTC!
Interesting location. Found with "How Do They Know?" on a day's drive from Nelson. Thanks maccamob.
WOW! Neither of us had even heard of tumuli before today and now we are standing in a valley full of them.We had just enough light left to get a few photos then a quick find to top things off. What a great way to finish the day as we head back to base for a feed.
Thanks for the cache (again) maccamob and a favourite point 'cos we were blown away by the tumuli.

5th find for today on the 6th day of our road trip from Melbourne to Adelaide via the great ocean road. We will of spent 9 days travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide with many of those days being in the vicinity of the great ocean road using earth caches to guide us through this geological wonderland.
Today we travel to Portland from Warrnambool via a few inland roads to see the volcanic district of Budj Bim, Harman's Vally and Mount Napier.
Question: Are they hollow?

We normally don't do too many 1/1 caches but as it was at an interesting earth feature we weaken, As usual with a 1/1 we expected to see the hide but look around for a bit and then uncovered it. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Wow! What an interesting place this is. Very surreal, almost a moonscape. Especially on this hot, hot day with the haze of fires in the air. Fascinating, we have never heard of this phenomena and it was a great addition to our caching adventures today. Thanks for bringing us here and for the cache.
A fascinating area. Thanks for bringing us here. If you have time I suggest a visit to volcanic Mt Eccles. It's not far away and you'll get a surprise.
