Bowral WeekendWe nearly got to GZ until a Ranger pulled over and told us the Forest was closed and adked for our permit. We didnt have a permit so he asked to leave. Forest should be open again soon - we will check the website before visiting again. Travelling to Bowral for the weekend with Joolay, contesta, dty73 and Tankengine. Thanks for the hide Geocaching NSW
Forest closed so didnt look. Dalys Clearing camp area open and survived the night!
We took the Belanglo Rd to get there but apperently forest roads are closed due to damaged roads by rain and 4WDs
Forest Corp representative said it could be months before they are open again
But we didn't try the Ashurst Rd way

Heading north to Iluka/Yamba for a family holiday. Detoured off into Belanglo forest to pick up a few caches.
Despite its dark history it is a beautiful piece of bushland. First one here, bit of bush bash down to GZ. Cache found quickly.

Bit of a rough walk! But loved it. The story wouldn't load, seems to be a broken link but definitely a good cache.

The cache has been replaced - just waiting for tiddalik to enable it if he agrees with the request.
I support Muppet95 note.
I have been in contact with "Mrs The 2 Dogs" and asked a couple of times to take on adoption of their caches to which they agreed and would follow through, but to date nothing has happened with that. Personally I don't wish to hassle them.

Hi Tiddalik,
Can you please discontinue the archival process for this cache.
The local geocaching community consider this December 2003 cache to be an 'old-school' community cache. This cache, Forest of Fear, has a lot of historical value.
For Australian geocachers completing Ausmer & Jasmer challenge caches (of which there are 2 challenge caches within 25km of this cache), this is 1 of 8 (in NSW) or 1 of 31 (in Australia) that satisfy a grid requirement.
I think it is also important to recognise and acknowledge the lack of authenticity of the geocaching account that has reported the cache.
There are at least 8 local geocachers that are willing to help maintain this listing for users to enjoy for years to come.

This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache.
If you plan on repairing this cache, please log a note to the cache (not email) within the next 30 days so I don't archive the listing for non-communication.

I will go out and check on this cache hide ASAP and replace it. Being an old cache it would be sad to see it gone. It is supposed to be raining all this week so may not get done for a little.
Really good look around here. Found obvious likely spot (see photo). If it wasn’t supposed to be there, or within. 15m radius, then it’s gone
We knew what we were looking for, but seems that it has in fact, after 17 odd years disappeared. Surprised that it would be muggles here!!
After a nice and cold night at Daly's Clearing Campground, we did few caches into the forest.
After parked the car we walked into the bush to get the scary GZ.

Didn't do this cache alone as goingplaces2 came along. Parked not too far away, walked to GZ and found something different to the usual. Signed the log (nothing red available) and was soon o the way back to the car. Thanks The 2 Dogs for this cache placement.

Slowly making our way north again after the Clear Waters Mega in Queanbeyan.
Camped at Belanglo Forest so we thought we'd find as many as we could around Moss Vale and Berrima. There's some great trails to be found and hopefully we can turn them in to smilies.
Thanks for placing this cache The 2 Dogs . We visited this cache at 11:48 a.m..

After carefully driving into the forest, we enjoyed a pleasant walk to this cache. TFTC
Not a single DNF or maintenance log since 2003! Now that's impressive, must be the forest of fear after all, muggles are too scared to come discover it!
I drove my Ford Focus 2008 all the way to this cache, came along a bit of a rocky and bumpy road that I wasn't a fan of on the way in, but managed to detour along a better road on my way back out!
Mainly targetted this cache given it is so old, has been my goal lately to collect old caches now that I have ticked off many of my other goals!
A great walk and a few spooky things found at GZ..... but the cache was there and in good nick!
Thanks 2 Dogs, didn't think I would ever be out in Belanglo Forest exploring on my lonesome!

Our first ever Geocache adventure!! What a bush walk in the rain! So much fun. The road said do not enter but luckily someone had beat us to taking the tapes fence down.
Unbelievably awesome found with the geokid in the pitch black. We did it. So great. Thank you for this awesome geocache. My sympathys to the victims and their families. I cannot begin to imagine what they must have felt and still feel. Just wish I could do something for them. Knowing that we still camp nearby is a true inspiration of human spirit. Totally amazed about this stunningly beautiful place.
Was a great experience to walk at night 6km round trip from the camp site and finding with the geokid.
Needed to be a little sneaky to access this one today, but with this and another HC cache close by it needed to be done.
Found a rather interesting object about 100m from the cache, retrieved it, and then accidentally left it at GZ. So say hello to the new cache guardian when you are there!

MrD and I came to Belanglo State Forest with the aim to clear out all the caches around here.
Like others before us, we found the road in blocked. So we parked the car and walked the 700m to GZ, with some bush bashing after using the roads. No activity going on, so not sure why they are still closed.
Found the SPOR and cache once there. No fear of forests for us! MrD's newly found cache guardian should be able to keep an eye on it. TFTC

On a caching weekend based at "Carey's reserve", our caching team were unable to access any area close to this cache due to logging operations. The entire area bounded by Belanglo Rd, Cherry Tree rd & Ashurst rd is currently closed by State Forest. Oh well, this will give us a good reason to come back. Sorry The 2 Dogs
Found with dghoffy while camping overnight before heading to the mega in Newcastle
We worked out about where GZ was and parked further along the track, a bit away from the campers. Then we headed bush and out of sight. Following the GPS lead us to something we recognised and which also held the treasure we were seeking.
Our name was added to the list, all was put back into place as it was found and we headed back, angling away from the tent to get to the geo vehicle. Thanks to The 2 Dogs for placing this cache so long ago.

#1538 on a cache run down to the Southern Highlands caught up with alnic39, teamMerlin and Splitty Miller JJCC at this cache before heading off. This one was a must find on all of our lists while and besides that we had to show it some love on it's 14th Birthday so we drove in and in the camping ground we parked near a camper and walked in. Bashed our way to GZ and came at it from below. Soon had the cache in hand. Gave a bad rendition of Happy Birthday.
Read a few of the early wishes. Signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in good condition. Thanks for the cache The 2 Dogs

Came in with the geocaching gang, but it was anything to be fearful of...except for that bloke sitting in his tent. Stared at us the whole time we drove in and did the same as we left. I waved, but he wasn't interested in pleasantries. Creepy!

The first of 5 days orienteering in the Southern Highlands. After the event I set up the tent at the campsite at Belanglo then headed into the forest to find the nearby caches. Easily found. Took TB. TFTC.

Didn't think we'd ever willingly want to camp at Belanglo but here we are - MrsG looking over her shoulder, not trusting other campers and nothing, absolutely not a single solitary anything would induce her to make a 100 metre middle of the night pilgrimage to the little girls room! It was quiet once the dirt bikes left - anywhere else peacefully quiet, here at GZ eerily quiet. Then eerily noisy when we found the cache. A real pity this beautiful bushland has such a tainted image. TFTC The 2 Dogs, left Geo-smiles TB.
Was a nice spot to stop for kunch and reflect on the history of the area, so sad. TFTC
Lovely area with a sad creepy past. Camping at Dalys Clearing for a couple of nights and will hopefully visit all the caches in the area. TFTC
Favourite point straight up when I near scared myself. I parked about 160 metres away and headed bush and soon had cache in hand and signed. Sad there's so much bad history here. Dropped off four trackables while I was here. TFTC.
I don't think I took the best road to this as it was extremely stony! Anyway, got to the parking spot and made my way through the bushes to GZ to make a quick find.
Found a better way going back!
Nobody at this spot today, but passed dozens of cars on the main road - must have been some event on.
Thanks,

We are heading to South Australia before heading to the event in Alice Springs. Currently we are travelling with DiMorgan and Bill ofcourse nice to have some companions to go caching with. This location was very special as by the end of the afternoon we were able to jointly find Di and Bllls Milestone 20,000th cache. Thanks to The 2 Dogs for placement of this cache and adding to our enjoyment of the area. Fav point alloc.
OCW Pipes Down Under, Camping at Wingello for my own event weekend. Stopped off and grabbed this one, on a nice caching day.
OCW Seemyshell and talking creepy stories as we headed to GZ...The cache hide gave my big bad caching mate a bit of a surprise (read squeal). LOL
Thanks for the hide (and giggle).

Wow eerie place, loved the Ivan's back carvings in the trees. Tftc, had this one on my list for years and glad to finally get it today. Road not suitable for BMW sports model (:
Great to find a cache that has been here a long time. No trouble finding it. T4TC!
TFTC,
We knew all about the events that had been provided by the media and made a daylight visit to the area.
Lets hope the victims can now rest in peace.
Visited trackables.

Was warned off exploring this neck of the woods by friends in the force but decided we were in the area & thought it would be an ideal opportunity to grab it... we let everyone know where we were with instructions to send a search party if they didn't hear from us by dark! Wasn't sure how far off the track it was until we pulled up on Ashurst rd & had about 200m to GZ. Not having read or seen too much detail on the horrific events that took place here made for a pleasant stroll through beautiful scribbly gums & wildflowers. Plenty of tracks to follow, animal diggings (we hoped) & birds singing. With spot on coords the cache was found pretty quickly. SL & returned as found. A bit disappointed to not find any remains...as photographed by other finders. Turned around & realised we'd both walked straight past it!!! We'd be hopeless detectives. returned it to the hide for the next finder. Took some pics & headed back to the car the same way we came in. All up was about a 15 min round trip stroll. Tftc. Perfect find to earn the "Haunted hides" souvenir
Previously logged under team account BoogieRogue. Re-logging with my individual account. A decent amount of bush bash was required to get this one. TFTC. Dropped TB.

I recommend travelling Ashurst Road, it was the easiest and smoothest route I found.
I have been eyeing off this cache for quite some time and thinking I should go and complete the task. Finally I got my act together, I guess it was because I was having withdrawals. It was a bit of a trek to GZ, more than I had anticipated so I am glad I didn't keep going last time I came here. Soon had CIH SL and placed back in its hide'y hole. Glad to finally tick this cache off the list. Thanks for bringing us here.
BTW I'm NOT afraid of the big bad wolf .
15 August 2015 - DNF -
The road to this cache is rough. I did it in my 2WD carefully. So we went a lookin, but it was getting near dark. I got to a few of metres from GZ but felt I was too far from the car and didn't want to get lost in the dark in the middle of the forest. May go back some other time. My hubby would do it in the dark, he isn't scared of anything, but having a bung ankle he would be concerned about tripping over and plugging a wombat hole shut. Geez, I'd hate to call the SES out for this one, imagine what they would be thinking, especially when I tell them a fatty has plugged a womby hole. He said he doesn't want to stay overnight lol.

I found this cache as a joint part of “Team” Throsbyonchurch and in which name the log book was signed. I now have my own account as I’m old enough to cache myself, so I am claiming a fair share of my earlier finds. As I had no caching name at the time there's no log in the book for me but I’m claiming the find under team ToC. Thank you for the hide.
OCW StumbleTrip and Mizmaz today. I wanted to get this at night but had to compromise and get it in daylight hours.
Pulled up amongst the ghost gums and set off to find the cache. Trekked in a bit and then found the likely spot with a helping hand. Cache retrieved, signing duties completed and upon returning the cache found another item within. Someone has a sense of humour!!!

Have visited Belangalo a few times both socially and for SES Comps but never close enough to grab this cache at the same time so when I heard StumbleTrip and Stumble’s Mate were heading out here and had a 4WD, knew this was my best chance to finally cross it off the list. Even though doing this cache is not as scary as the sad history the forest instils, my car would never have made it, at least without a long walk to GZ. Now that could have been scary alone.
Would never have attempted this one on my lonesome as the history of this forest has always loomed large in my urban history almanac. So, in great company with mizmaz and Stumble's Mate, we headed off in search of Forest Of Fear. Thank goodness for the 4WD geomobile. This forest, aside from it's gory history, is quite beautiful with all the ghost gums (irony?) in the leadup to GZ.
I marked the geomobile before a small bushbash to a secluded spot. Very wry sense of humour. Thanks for the cache and thank goodness I don't have to come back here now. TFTC.

I intended to get this one last weekend whilst at Dragonskin, but VOC4 was located nearby and made access difficult. Called in on my way home from Bungonia today... easy find... nothing creepy about the place at all.
Took time out of a dirt-bike session to locate this one. Couldn't ride right to it - but close enough for a short walk to the find.

loved GZ, quite funny really. Wanted to take a pic but Garmin had no memory, Didn't feel much Fear at all, but I'm sure a night find may throw a different spin on it. TFTC
