The canyons of these mountains were deep and beautiful, and the nature was amazing. For us from Europe, every plant and animal is new and unknown. This was a short stop before departure. Thanks for the placing this geocache and the work associated with it. All geocaches have led us to many nice places. Greetings from Brno the Czech Republic. Bisoutje and I are on a roadtrip with a campervan between Cairns and Adelaide and havr now touched ground in Sydney. Before we checked into our campsite we stopped here to try and find this oldie of an Earthcache. If I understand correctly this is the 2nd oldest earthcache in the world but the 1st published earthcache as such. It is an honour to be able to find an Earthcache this old.The biggest struggle here was to find a parkingspot. I guess GZ is best visited on a bike but we don't have that luxury today. We found a parkingspot here: -35,3000897, 149,1800716(Coords Google Maps compatible). From there we walked to GZ through the grass as many have done before us. The only difficulty might be to cross the creek. I was able to hop from stone to stone and managed to get across with dry feet. I took the time to read the sign and inspect the fossils displayed. Answers are sent to the CO.TFTC and favpoint for maintaining this oldie.

Kolour and I organised a long weekend in Canberra to catch up with the great Domsky duo. Of course there was much caching to be done as well! Off the plane this morning, we attended a CITO, collected some challenge caches and had some target caches to find.It was great to see this spot, we ended up driving past it many times over our 3 days in Canberra. Answer has been sent to the CO.Thanks geoaware.

My answer has been sent to the CO. Thanks for bringing me to this interesting place so a fp and tftEC

Today was my last day in Canberra for this trip. Another late start for me and that is now two in a row. Now that doesnt happen often. Only 5 finds today which included the oldest Earth Cache in the ACT. It is also the second oldest EC in Australia. I think the hardest part about this cache plus the three others that are close by, is finding somewhere legal to park the car. After finding the caches I headed off to Belconnen mall for lunch and a spot of shopping before heading home. Along the way there, I stopped off for a cache which I drive past at least once every Canberra trip. Im glad it is on my found list now. It was a great week away and now time to head home. TB visit. A big thanks to the CO for adding this cache to game for the Geocaching community to enjoy. Big Grin TFTCs! Big GrinThis one and the other three nearby Geocaches was on my list to find, today. However, the hardest part of finding them are, finding a safe parking spot. Thankfully, I did... kind of. I don't think where I parked at least for the first one was actually legal. Anyway, it took about an hour to find these four and it was great fun finding them. The amazing places that geocaching takes you. This was has been my to-find-list for far to long, so today I headed out to find it. Once parked, I did the relaxing 250m walk to GZ. Once there I was mesmerized by the location. I'm guessing that back in 2004 it was much larger and easier to get to then now. However, it is still a great spot to visit. After a while I got about finding the answer to the question. Now time to head to the nearby Multi-Cache. Thanks for the great EC and FP given. Big Grin

What a weekend! With the what would have been the most impromptu trip for me ever, I found myself booking flights to Canberra in order to pick up a couple interesting caches or two. With a list of prospective caches for me to hit made into a list, I had just under 48hrs to go our and collect as many of them as I and my driver for the days would allow! With tree climbs, puzzles, D/T's and some sneaky Drain Caches completed! All in all I had an amazing trip and cannot wait to be back soon! Thanks for the cache and the big adventure!!

Well, it seems that buhfuhguh is up to his usual tricks and has decided to head up to Canberra for a whirlwind two days of nonstop shenanigans. It was great to see the giant again and embark on some classic adventures as we targeted some quality caches along the way! This had been on my to-do list for a while since I moved up here - it is the world's second oldest EarthCache, after all!I couldn't quite pin down the most convenient access point though, so I waited until I was with someone I could blame the navigation on.Google Maps was quite adamant on sending us through Duntroon via a road that had a rather menacing "trespassers prosecuted" sign at the front.I believe buhfuhguh said something along the lines of "why have you taken me straight from the airport into a military compound?"We thought we might be able to seek out an alternative entrance to the other end of that road and took a couple of U-turns to get there. We then somehow ended up driving on what seemed to be a bike path but with a give way sign beside it?Either way, the Astra ended up in a carpark in the end and we were off on a walk to gz!It's a very pleasant stroll through here and ended up delivering us to some great informative displays; I thought it was pretty surprising that they're so difficult to access by car!We enjoyed exploring the area and making some measurements which were sent off to the CO and met with a prompt response. Thanks to geoaware for this EarthCache and, y'know, the whole EarthCache thing! Smile

Day 7 of mogni and sir_spectre visit the ACT. Today we joined FelixII for a great day of caching. Lots of variety and it was really helpful with some more eagle eyes spotting those pesky micros high in trees. As per normal if a cache needed a bit of love, it got it. Australia's 2nd oldest earth cache. Really not sure we parked at the best spot but it worked. Given the amount of flatted long grass on the path to gz, alot of other people had the same idea. This is also the location we meet felix II for a day of caching around canberra. Quick solve of the questions and answers sent. nice history lesson on the plaque beside the bridge. Water flowing well in the creek today but there is still frost on the grass it's that cold. fav point.Found with Mogni. Myself and mogni are headed off to canberra on the " I missed the Capital GeoBash Mega " holiday, since last minute family problems came in to play and we had to adjust our plans by a few weeks. On the way over we targeted multi's, wherigo's and puzzles to make sure we had 25 in each or at least close to that total ( or more ) as possible, getting as many new New South Wales LGA's as possible, the 17th most favourite point NSW cache and every cache size in New South Wales. In the ACT it was getting 2 of the 5 oldest letterboxes, oldest wherigo in Australia, 2nd oldest earthcache ( with a side trip to get the oldest earthcache of course ), and ACT oldest cache too. I also hosted a CITO and planned on getting every different cache type i could and eevry different cache size as well. I also needed 9 more virtuals this trip to get my virtual count over 100. Finally canberra was far enough away from from house to complete the well aged well travelled cacher 0 to 1000 kms with a cache every 10 km's ( i only need 7 more caches to complete )Leaving the ACT it was going via Victoria to get there last active web cam cache and slowly getting a total of 20 finds in each LGA i passed through if i had enough time plus also hosting a CITO in Victoria as well. A busy 11 days. Trust me by the end of the holiday you would have thought the 6 meter ladder weighed more than 13 kg's to amount of times it was used or carried up hills or over creeks. If your cache was found with a broken container/lid it was replaced or if the log was full it was replaced or a extra log if the container was big enough ( except for nano's, do your own maintenance on nano's.

Full time Nomads, travelling around Australia since 2014. Back in Canberra in anticipation of ANZAC day. We were invited to a day out caching with mogni and Sir Spectre which we jumped at the opportunity. (they have lots of TOTT's Wink )We met up at 8am in the fog! Well actually the fog didnt really lift until 10am, certainly the foggiest day we have seen in our few weeks in Canberra.Great day out and about deploying a variety of TOTT's by all members of the teams. Annoyed with ourselves for having ridden past on our bikes when in the area previously. Today parking here in the peak hour traffic and fog was definitely a challenge.TFTC geoaware Cool

Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. All logs have been signed as WAC to save space, abbreviation for Western Australia Crew. Cheers geoaware! Big GrinJoin us in Augusta, in Western Australias South West, for WA Goes Big 2024 (GCAGV8Y) on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. Log your will attend now!

Well, this is certainly an out-of-the-way place. I had no idea it existed. I went here during the Canberra GeoBash Mega as it's an old Earthcache, and these are often the best. It'd be good if the council would clean up the area and perhaps improve the overall region.

Day 18 of our roadtrip in Australia. We're leaving Canberra today to drive to Sydney. Not the direct route though, as we want to visit the two oldest Earthcaches on the way, so we'll head east to the coast and then drive up the coast towards Sydney, stopping along the way for some caches or a National Park. We wanted to do these old Earthcaches today, this one was the first. Not easy to get to, in fact you seem to have to drive through the Academy which seems to be okay. Parked at the oval field and walked to the site. Quite interesting! Measured the fossils and took a photo. Thanks and kind regards from Switzerland, Hinni&Simo

After an 8.5 km walk around the Kowen area this morning and lunch in Queanbeyan, Mr CNQ (and the google voice) navigated to this location with some trepidation, but ultimately successfully. After a short walk, collected some photos and attached one of the sign on the bridge. Good to see this older earth cache still going and a great location with several information panels.. Thanks for the earthcache geoaware.

Find # 8,732 for me on 30 Mar 2024 at 2:15pm. This cache was found on our Canberra Mega adventure. After a lunch with friends, we needed to be back at the Mega site for the wedding event, but I thought we could sneak this in on the way. It turned into a bit of a mad dash, but we made it. Unfortunately the site is neglected and access is through blackberries and long grass, but we got there. It was very interesting seeing the informative signs and the fossils. Then it was a rush to get to the wedding, but we made it. It was great visiting Hawaii and the volcanos with the CO last October so this had special significance. Thanks geoaware, for giving back to the game.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*

Our thanks to Earthbound Chief for sharing the best way to get to this one.We parked up and made our way to GZ. We collected our answers and took obligatory snaps and made our way off. The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time. This earthcache was on my list of must visits during the mega. It certainly was hidden away and tricky to access. Most people driving past probably dont even realise this site is here. Thanks for bringing our attention to it. A very interesting little spot.

We found Earthcache II - the geology of WoolShed Creek, ACT on a quick 24 hour visit for the Mega.We have not been to Number 1, Wasp Head, as of yet, so Number 2 was a priority for this trip. With the new freeway above, we eventually discovered the best entrance point. Thanks Gazza for inventing Earthcaches Thanks geoaware for hiding this cache so that we could come and enjoy ourselves

#1816Super excited to be attending GeoBash shenanigans this weekend with my Welder kids and puppy free thats the way we like it! Having been up here 18 months ago we had a fairly good idea what we were going to target this time tick some boxes in some more challenges, pick up some new surrounding LGAs, target some oldies and find some new shiny ones! Of course this cache didnt work out as planned should have known that The Welder would lead me down the garden path, or overgrown blackberry path. Lets just say while The Welder was sizing up the goods, I had to distract the AFP who wanted to know if I was okay! Now I dont know if it was my sweet talking or The Welder trying to look innocent with a wave..: that got us walking away with only a smily and not a ticket lol! ?? Thanks for the cache and the laugh (or embarrassment) ?????

29-Mar-24
Ooohhh, theres a simple Earthcache just around the corner Heymissjo enthusiastically told me.Its almost tempting fate when you use words like simple!A struggle to find parking.A trek through blackberry in order to avoid arterial traffic.Scaling down an acute drop. And then being questioned by the AFP!!Yeah, as she saidThis was a simple Earthcache!!Perhaps the AFP were worried that HMJ was going to jump from the bridgeMaybe it was just another out of towner for them to check in on In any event, they moved off satisfied with our storyAnd thats when I saw the orthodox approach to GZI think Im out of inverted commas now, lol! Thanks for the quirky 1/1 geology lesson.Trust me, its playing long today!!????????(Answers supplied with Heymissjo)

29/3/2024 Find #6926My first ever trip to Canberra and I am down here for the Mega with KBreeAHH and Captain Terror. Big Matt collected us for todays tour to kick start our time in Canberra. We parked the car a bit of a walk away and made our way here. I was excited to find acorns along the route - we dont get these growing up in Queensland! Yes, its the simple things. It was a pleasant walk for the four of us and we were soon enough at GZ (and seeing other spots we could have parked at). The other two have both done this earthcache a while ago but we still all found it very interesting and enjoyed finding all the little fossils. There are so many of them! Thanks for the earthcache geoaware.

17:08Good Friday GeoBashing. The general plan was to get our names on as many Challenge caches as possible. The rest is a bonus. With +Wife doing the chauffeur honours, we amassed nearly a dozen of the former, and a similar number of others, including a variety of types.Of course, how could we pass by this Earthcache without stopping for a look. Getting to it was... entertaining. But worth it for the interesting geology (duh), and being one of the earliest ones. Thanks, geoaware. Many thanks to n0w0rries for the heavy lifting.#8585

Well that was a bit cool! Never ever would have known it was there except for this old cache. On the way to GZ I saw a dead platypus and the biggest wasp nest Ive had the displeasure of coming across. I love this type of EC and was very happy to be made aware of it while on the ACT for the geobash mega.

Then in the south on to Adelaide and from there ending the 31th October in Alice Springs.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.One of the things we realy wanted to do are the borh earthcache I and II. I finally took the opportunity to come and check out this little known spot, and see these ancient fossils. What an awesome piece of geological history hidden in plain sight Id recommend parking inside Duntroon, theres a walking track to the site from the old cricket ground, its only a few hundred metres away. The site itself has plenty of info and some fascinating rocky outcrops. And I do believe this might be the second oldest earth cache in the world. Thanks!

Much easier to get here by bike / food than in an automobile, and some fun little trails around to boot!

Thanks for highlighting the area’s geology and the splendid fossil display!

Answers have been sent to CO via email. Cheers geoaware Smile

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Canberra has been a bit like our home away from home in the last 12 months. The Green Geckos & I have visited it going too & from the Wangaratta Mega, Whittlesea & Rutherglen Mega & a Christmas roadtrip to Adelaide visit. We engaged this cache on one of theses trips and only now managed to get my act together to message CO with a pic & answers.

Thanks geoaware for creating this very interesting cache.

Visiting from Ohio, USA and driving around enjoying Australia in a campervan. After doing EC1 earlier today I could hardly skip EC2 since I wanted to visit Canberra anyway. So I made this my first find in the ACT. Tricky parking for sure!

It took us longer to find a spot to park the car than complete this old timer of an EarthCache. As I didn’t trust my capabilities of crossing the river, Steve stepped across the rocks, then spent a considerable amount of time trying to find a lamp shell fossil.

Answer and photo submitted to CO.

Thank you geoaware for bringing us to this location today.

After I logged the very first EarthCache at Durras, Wasp Head, NSW, I wanted of course also to log the second one! And while I’m here in Canberra, the cache got a visit.

Thanks for the cache.

This is my third trip to Canberra this year, and day three of the trip. Today is exciting as Pprime, oz_bean_counter and I are leaving Canberra to head for Jindabyne and some Snowies action. This morning the plan is to pick up T4mmmy from the airport, then head south, but we have some time to kill first. On the way now to the airport, there would be a stop for this Earthcache.

Unless I'm mistaken, this is the second geocache in Australia, if not the world? It's at least in the first five. Prime (who had found it before) suggested it to us, then I discovered this fact, so it was a definite now! We quickly worked out/remembered parking would be annoying here. But figured with Prime dropping us off, doing a lap and coming back, OBC and I could duck down to GZ and do what needed to be done.

Exactly that happened, and now standing on the side of the road, we had to wander up what isn't really a footpath, then over the barrier and through some lengthy, grippy speargrass. Safe to say we did not approach this the best possible way.

But down there, beside a busy road, hidden from view is the promised geological attraction. It was utterly fascinating to read about this place. History on two timescales - early Australia and ancient. The display of fossils was very nice and made for an easy comparison of sizes of the fossils.

And then onto poking around a little. I went for a stroll about the place and was pleased to find fossils still in place. And some interesting sedimentary bands in the rock. Plus, a big ol' metal pin in the rock; no idea what it was ever for.

With all the signs read, measurements taken, we headed up to be picked up again. Thankfully, under the bridge and up was a better, less stabby-grass route for us. And a minute in the hot sun, Prime re-arrived and we made for the airport. I rarely find earthcaches, but it was a pleasure to find this old example. Thank you for this innovative geocache, geoaware Smile

Found this one an epic milestone birthday holiday to Canberra. Seriously cool to find the second oldest earthcache! And when I got to GZ I could see why - some great history and geology here. Answers have been sent.

Whittlesea Mega trip Day 1.
Today I am heading to Whittlesea for the Mega grabbing some caches along. I pick up 6 today.
Thank you for the cache.
Now this was fun to do in the day dark. On the way out we spotted a eel in the water.
I found this cache with The Green Geckos and Muggle65.

Day 2
Today I caching with The Green Geckos and Muggle65 we had lots of fun.
My total finds count was 28 cache with 4 waypoints. The breakdown is 10 mystery, 5 traditional, 2 letterbox, 2 virtual, earthcache, 2 multi, and 4 adventure labs waypoints.
Today I completed a traditional loop and my 11 loop. Yippee
Thank you CO for the placement and maintenance you do. Lot of these caches help me finishing other challenges.

Sorry for the generic log
Thanks Brislions

I wasn't sure how to get to GZ but some past logs helped although I wasn't sure if I was allowed to be driving through Duntroon. Anyway, I didn't get thrown in the brig and arrived at GZ to check out these awesome fossils. Such a great site here. Thanks geoaware and happy caching

Interesting little spot. Very wet here today, with a lot of water flowing under the bridge. I measured the fossils and have sent my answer to the CO.

Great trip on the bikes and explore of our backyard. Had always wondered why there was a path that seemed to go nowhere. Pity about the noise from the cars above but very interesting nonetheless. Thanks for bringing us here.

Tried to come visit earlier but some rain made the path impassable. Sun out today and water was not an issue! Tftc

Cache 7471 on 18 Apr 2021.

Out on a Sunday morning mission with Fox in Jox to grab a few caches of interest. A fun morning with some walking and breakfast along the way!

This is an earthcache I have been meaning to stop by and have a look at for ages. Fox had already found this one but joined me for the walk to GZ after securing a slightly shady park nearby. It is such a shame this spot is now overshadowed by the fancy intersection, I vaguely remember the bridge beforehand which was a lot more considerate of this site. Should be glad the whole lot is not under concrete I guess. Anyway, a great site, with interesting information. Answer sent to the CO and fav point comin at ya!

Thanks geoaware for the cache and the fun!

Wow this was a really cool one. I’d just spent three hours on the cycle way caches and still hadn’t found them all. Headed back to the car as I had no more water left and was hungry. I’m a fairly reluctant cyclist anyway. Saw this one under the culvert when I was heading back to my car parked near ikea and jumped the fence and navigated down. I do acknowledge there is a really nice path to GZ that should be used instead. Grabbed some measurements using the measurement app on my phone. Headed back to the car and busy ikea to try meatballs for he first time. Thanks for the earth cache here!

Logging in anticipation of correct answers.

I never knew this site was here, despite living in CBR for 14 years and having regularly run around RMC Duntroon many many years before that.

What a fascinating piece of history - nice to see it well explained, too.

Thanks Geoaware!

Wandered over from the nearby oval for a quick find of the required details. Had a scout around but didn't see any other fossils, other than those in the display cabinet, the guy looking into said display cabinet. Driven past here a million times, glad to have finally made the effort to check the area out. Answers sent to CO, logging find in anticipation.

Answers submitted, and I hope the CO will allow me to log now, to claim today’s souvenir. I’ve passed through Canberra Airport so many times, and was completely unaware of this spot. Thanks for bringing me here.

Stopped off at this one, while in the area. The fossils look a bit like the earthcache fossils in Molong NSW, which I visited a few months back. Thanks for showing me this site.

Found this one back on the 20 March. Completed with my middle daughter, Chocolistick03. Answers emailed to CO a day or two later. It has been sitting in my drafts and I have only just realised this hasn't been logged. An unexpected find for the location. Thanks geoaware. Log signed as OK + CL03.

What a cool bit of unexpected history to find in a location that I would have never found otherwise. I looked around for a few minutes and was disappointed to see that some people had chipped away at the rocks to find their own fossils. I was then surprised when a young family showed up. I was definitely not expecting muggles. Email sent. TFTH

Kittiekatch drove me around town, giving me a geocachers tour as no other.

It took us a minute to figure out how to gain access to this site. I suggested turning down a side road that lead us to the wrong side of the creek, but close to the cache on this hot day.

We made our way across the shallow creek, over rocks that very well themselves could have contained fossils, then under the roadway to the posted coordinates on the other side.

I read the description on the kiosk, then we went about hunting for fossils. I won't say anything more without giving away any answers, but it was a fun and easy Earth cache to get.

Thanks for the find.

Thank you for this Earthcache. A worthy stop on my long drive north. I would never have found this interesting place if I wasn’t a geocacher!

Out with Gliss! on a hot and smokey Canberra Day finding a daily. We targeted this one as it was the last ‘E’ I needed to score my December Challenge. So glad we ventured down this way, it was a really interesting site, and a lovely cool walk beside the creek, once we were tucked into the shade. A fav from me. Thanks for the cache!

Stolled down to this site which we did not now was here with [@AngusnmumyAdventures](http://coord.info/PRRD6GG). There is obviously lots of history here of all kinds, some very old and some very young.

We gathered the information needed, and took lots of pics around but nothing else. Another amazing place that Geocaching has taken us to.

Thanks geoaware for this little adventure, Lil Donna & Co
