When I was looking at caches prior to my trip to Auckland, saw this one and thought must do it! Loaded into GPS and walked up Mt Eden for the information between thunderclaps. Went to post the data and found it had been archived. Sad Contacted the owner with the info and now posting with permission Big Grin

We are in NZ from Australia on Chippyroo's Middle Earth Caching Quest. Today was our last full day here and more than likely our last day of caching Sad. We couldn't leave Auckland without visiting Mt Eden and her caches! The area was teaming with muggles! Bus load after bus load where stopping and leaving etc. But we managed to go undetected.

Performed most of the steps for the Earth Cache (though I missed one to my current annoyance). Then I hit this one. Pity that the actual cache is no longer here, but with all the tourists and foot traffic around I'm sure its not particularly feasible. Either way, this was a great excuse to use my new GPS Kit app on my iPphone. TFTC!

Find #831. The 13th for us today - and our second after lunch on a short excursion up Mount Eden. Upon arrival, we completed the earthcache present at the site, and then progressed on to the tasks to claim a find for this one - we didn't have much time though, as an imminent sheet of rain was headed directly towards us.

In the end we got caught out, being pelted by ice cold sleet and rain - along with gusts of wind - but we got all the info we needed. Certainly a different sort of 'traditional' than we are used to! SL TFTC.

We had just arrived in New Zealand and despite the rain we still had to do some caching. We had been to Mt Eden before, but were more than happy for a return visit – great views from here despite the weather. Went up on a nice mostly sunny day around lunch with sonia26642 and tunfisk to show the views to our visitor.
The coordinates according to my Oregon 450 were S36° 52.670 E174° 45.899 and it took about 2 mins to average (repeated twice, got a message to allow 90 mins between measurements but was not planing to stay that long - next time Smile), with full (rechargeable) battery in normal mode at 12.31pm, TFTC!! With an extended break between work comitments, I thought I would take a quick bus ride to Mt Eden and collect some caches while I go for a walk. Climbed directly up to the summit from a nearby cache. I was willing to tackle the steeper terrain to save on time and distance. I have been up here before, but I had forgotten just how splendid it can be. Lovely views of the CBD and the water today--photo attached. Now for the facts;

On my trip around the world I first visited the States, travelled from there to Australia and continued my trip in New Zealand.
Terra Fox joined me and we made a four-week-tour in NZ driving from north to the south and back again.
Geocaching can take you to spots you would never visit and so I used my trip to find some caches in every state and country.

I hadn't read the description before arriving so had to go back to car to get paper.
Lat. S 36.87798, Long 174.76500 (But over 30 mins also varied to 36.87797, 174.75498 or 174.76501.
Mapsource won't read the Waypoints from my GPS even though I can see the file on the GPS. Maybe I should download Basecamp.
Altitude: 198m at 1:26 pm and 200m at 1:56 pm. Altitude has not been calibrated for a couple of weeks but with 62s it usually self calibrates well if I am moving about with GPS on as I had been for the last 2 hours.
GPSr: Garmin Map 62s
Software version 2.70
Time: 1:36 to 1:56 pm
Position Errer on GPS 3m, but briefly went to 2m

Battery level: reads 4 bars out of 4 bars, but probably about 80% Using Eneloop NiCad in Normal mode.
Sky: Clear day.
Antenna: Read this after recording the above, so went back to car attached Gilsson magnetic antenna which had a slight attraction to the benchmark cover plate but made only a very slight difference to the satellite strengths. The GPS reading was stable with or without the antenna. My main use of the antenna is to give slightly better reception under trees and to give better stability - I tape the antenna to my shoulder when doing map fieldwork and when I pull the GPSr out my pocket it is already settled.
Looked for the cache, inside the benchmark cover. Only found a slug.
I reckon I can pin point this spot on http://maps.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/AucklandCouncilViewer/ which gives Latitude: -36:52.676437, Longitude: 174:45.899252 with Lidar contour level at just over 193m
Thanks Tofska.

Creates a pretty interesting graph and interesting to see how many different GPSrs there are and that people know lots about them. Must say we struggled to find the sattelite info, then had trouble getting a picture that didn't have the info screen obscured by reflection - will try to remember to attach it.

sorry to be a spoil sport... but this cache is listed as a normal cache, which is why we headed up to find it. Can you relist it as an earth cache, or a virtual. Either that or go back to the GZ and place an actual cache container on site... there are loads of good spots up there to hide them.

my GPS coords are not worth adding to your list as the iphones are famous for having terrible GPS modules and therefore the figures are all over the places.

cheers

Paul.
