Better than a new lid to keep the West Coast rain out is the container in a snaplock bag.Removed old wet log and added another sheet to the already present waterproof paper.Should be OK for another 20 years Smile

29-Mar-24
Out on the west coast cycle trail. The cache has lost its top and the log book is wet. TFTC

While Hazedarus got his bike ready for a jaunt along the trail I started searching for this. I did make it harder on myself by misinterpreting the terrain rating. No sooner had Hazedarus arrived to help than I managed to get my hands on it. The container has lost it's lid but has a brand new log, presumably left by drawp since his was the only signature on it.Thank you Trigger_Fish..

A few caches have been asking for attention for far to long and this arvo seemed just right to go for a drive and a ride.I overlooked the obvious and briefly ventured at the wrong level until Holymu lifted the cache in triumph.Thank you Trigger Fish

Found on a five day geocaching road trip to the Nelson, Buller, and West Coast regions. We travelled many kms, by car bike and by foot and found many great caches and explored many areas. Thanks to the various CO's for the caches sites we visited that made our trip so great. Thank for the caches.

Kiwi Grandad and I biked the Wilderness trail from Kumara to Lake Kaniere today. We loaded up a few caches to provide an excuse for a breather along the way. There were a few muggles having lunch in the nearby shelter but their cars blocked the view to us. The cache was quickly found and then we checked out the intake before continuing our ride. TFTC.

2651. Out on day 2 of the wilderness trail. Picking up a great caches on the way. The log in this one was effectively just disintegrating paper. Had nothing to replace it. TFTC!!!

I think I had an uncredited dnf when I was here 2 years ago

Found today after a short hunt. The hint does not seem to be relevant any more, which might be what defeated me last time.

Nice easy find thanks.

I'm taking 10 days to e-bike 600 km from the West Coast to Picton, to mark my 60th birthday. Day 2today, Kanerie to Kumara.

Bit of a mission to get this one as my GPS hadn't downloaded properly, just had to guess - whoo there it was - TFTC

Found while biking day 2 of the WCWT. Pouring with rain but still an exhilarating ride. I couldn't find this one last time here in 2015 so very pleased to claim the smiley this time. Thanks Moneydork.

08-Dec-21
A nice quick find thanks. NO bikes on the drive in, time to get on mine now.

Ms_KR and I are off on a wee jaunt to the West Coast, to "climb another mountain". Today we took the back way to Greymouth. A lovely day for it, and it started raining just as we checked in at the campground.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

08-Dec-21
I saw plenty of yellow flowers today and now some birds around here that are yellow and say "little bit of bread and no cheese". Well that's the UK version for the call of the Yellowhammer. Tftc

Almost a year since last find on this oldie!
A little bit of a detour but sounded like a good area to visit so we took the road less travelled by.
Spotted some trout, and saw quite a few whio - blue ducks hanging on the water. About 20 or so. Given they are nationally vulnerable and a small population, that seems pretty impressive.

Cache did not want to give itself up easily. I searched and searched and was about to give up and then I found it, pretty easy spot too. Don't know how I overlooked it at first.
Added a new ziplock bag.
As mentioned before, size is a small jar, closer to a micro than to regular.

TFTC!

WCWT Day 3: Cowboys Paradise to Kumara

This was one of our ‘want to do’ caches given its age. It also proved a handy rest stop so while half the team snacked, HorseGirlNZ and myself went a cache-searching.

Lots of wrong places looked into as we went about guessing what a small tree might look like 14 years later but we got there in the end

HorseGirlNZ was surprised that the cache was older than her!

Thanks Moneydork

A weekend trip away with the WASPs - the Woodbourne adventure sports people. Today it is something much easier than we normally try for, the West Coast Wilderness Trail. A nice easy 50km ride today, starting at Kumara. And, as seems to always happen, I am the only geocacher in the group.
Which makes this the first cache of the day. Stopped for a toilet break. It's a portaloo of a sort, but the door is off its hinges. Luckily I met the guy maintaining them just a little further down the trail and mentioned it to him. He's going to go check it out.
The geocache at first I thought of over the bank and checked out a few places, but then I saw the terrain rating and realised it can't be there. Found it shortly after that.
Wow! Still the original log book! From 2008!

When we were planning a pre-Xmas holiday, Mr D said - and we have to have a day on the West Coast Wilderness Trail! So here we are, got dropped off at Kumara and are biking back to Hokitika. Beautiful day and a great place to explore. 73 km, 743 m total ascent, 8:41 total time.

Everyone we met on the trail was friendly and so was the weka here. One problem - we were looking for a regular but this is a small honey jar! Still, got it evalually and dried things out in the sun for a while, much to the bewilderment of a chap who stopped for a chat on his way past.

in such a beautiful location while delivering cyclists to the track I found this cache very quickly

Camping nearby and it would have been rude not to find this one while out sussing the cycle trail,

Interesting distraction from the trail. Most certainly wouldn't have known about this area without the trail (or the cache) being here. TFTC.

Heading for home after a caching weekend to Greymouth. Great fun. Saw the nearby 2 caches which were languishing 6 months without a FTF...so headed in to capture them. Couldn't search for this one properly when we first pulled up so continued on the walkway to find the other two....back at the car after the FTF's we quickly cornered the cache. Cheers.

Team_Gaters and I have planned a this trip over the last few months. We finally got to the business end of things and kicked off out West Coast raid. We had two days and a lot of boxes to tick. We started at 5am on Saturday morning and it took over 12 hours to get to Greymouth. We drove a lot, walked a lot and had a lot of laughs. We experienced 4 seasons and even contemplated aborting the mission as we were standing in icy cold weather freezing as the rain came pelting down in Arthurs Pass. We encountered matigouri, rosehips, blackberries, brambles, spainairds, baby gorse and old man gorse!!! Still finding parts of prickles in my skin! We also saw kea, weka, cave weta, tree weta, giant slugs, giant spiders in caves, west coasters, fat wood pidgeons, tui and a giant dragon fly. Had wet feet for nearly two days. Three FTFs and on of them was unpublished (first for me).
We couldn't look for this one properly before we headed up the track for a FTF mission. After our successful mission we made the find as we headed out. Would have been sad not to get this one. Cache creep and cache shrunk too, but good to see this older one alive. Great spot and the cycleway is amazing.
Awesome weekend. TG and I joked that going back to work would be a bit of a let down, so to combat that we would keep one foot in a bucket of water and the other one on top of a pin cusion, that should ignite the memories.

Thanks for the cache.

Quick find by my biking buddy Bum before we headed off to check out the new cycle trail towards Milltown. What a great asset for the Coast this will be, once they join (bridge) all the dots this trail will be a must.

25-Apr-12
8/10 caches for Anzac day. Fast find as it started spitting yet again. Had a quick look around even though it was spitting. Would've liked to do the other caches in this series but this looks like the last one still standing. TFTC

Found during a nice drive round the back road Caches!

Worth the detour. Spent more time looking around and taking photos. Remembered to grab the cache but nearly left the GPS behind. Too relaxing! Smile. Awesome location, TFTC.

24-Feb-11
Found it this time on my visit to Kawaka at New Year. Thanks to Moneydork for reinstating the cache. I couldn't believe how popular this location has become. At least 20 vehicles on the road.

23-Feb-11
Thanks for showing us this place

25-Nov-10
found quickly and then went and spooked myself by walking where one shouldn't.

21-Aug-10
We weren't sure what size the hint object should be, then found the cache under something different! A good spot for lunch afterwards. While we were eating, someone else arrived and parked right beside the cache. Several other cars along the road on the way out. TFTC

15-Aug-10
Remarkably quick find for us. Cache is in good condition

24-Feb-10
A long road but cool here. Nice water reserves. TFTC MacBanger

No such luck today after 20 mins of hunting around as another vehicle of teenage muggles turned up. Nice out of the way place however, so I'll be back some day. Thanks.

05-Jul-09
This is a great wee spot thanks for bringing us here

03-Jul-09
Interesting road to drive in! Took quite a while to find the box, too busy dodging rain drops! Thanks.

31-May-09
It's been a while since this has been found. It's still there and in good condition. A beautiful spot. One place we have not been before. We checked out the dam and spillway. I would expect that this little river system, would be an excellent habitat for Whio, even with the power scheme infrastruture. TNLN TFTC

16-Aug-08
Enjoyed the drive and scenery up to this cache - would be good to see what the area looked like on a sunny day. PB made a quick find. 2 of 2 on an afternoon trip to find some snow. TNLN

What a neat spot to go to, with history aswell. well worth the little detour. I am sure I will return for another look.. Cheers and thanks for showing us this spot..

10-May-08
Very pleased that this one is up and running again. First visited 15 months ago as a newbie, one of my very early DNF's, had quite a few more of those since then of course Big Grin
Bit of the beaten path but an interesting spot.

3 or 5. Have been waiting to complete this cache for ages. the drive in was excellent. Lots of stops to check out the possibility of casting the line out. The girls weren't as happy as daddy at that prospect. especially as the line was in the car. Will come back 'sans' children soon. (maybe tonight on dusk! definitely a good time for fishing)

Got to the end of line and couldn't believe it-had to wait for 4 car loads of people to move away from GZ.

This cache is now ready to fly again.

08-May-07
Searched for the cache with Kawhaka without success. Is it possible that it has been washed away? The creek can wash quite high when in flood. It is noted that this cache has not been found since Conton found it rather wet December 2005.

02-Feb-07
Spent about 40 minutes looking for this one without success. Checked every object as per clue within a 10m radius. Positive I was at the right spot.

30-Dec-05
Found 11months after it was last found. It had been pushed over the bank from some grading which appears to have been done there.
The cache was full of water and everything was soaked. We couldn't even write in the log. However to prove our presence at the spot we took the carabiner and left orange sabre tooth rhino.
Would reccomend this cache be archived until maintainence done on it. Sorry we couldn't oblige this time as we were running out of light and we were heading home to CHCH.
Cheers
Conton

Another lovely West Coast spot. This was another cache where I was initially led astray by using an old web page printout. I repeat an earlier Memo to BaldEd , “Chuck out all paper printouts you haven’t printed in the last week – if earlier than that then they will likely be out of date and trust your PDAâ€. + 4X4 key ring. – whistle. Thanks Moneydork.

27-Jan-05
So this is a nice location! Had a short swim afterwards. Short for the temperature and short for the little amount of available water at this location. Thanks for leading me here!

07-Jan-05
Replaced the cache - the old one seems to be missing.
Have updated co-ords slightly and updated the hint.

02-Jan-05
The clue wasn't a lot of use. We zeroed over the grate with the water running under it, so it wasn't too clear whether the clue referred to above or below the wall. We guessed above, but hunted for about an hour, before finally giving up. For long drive-ins like this, giveaway clues are nice...
Had a nice paddle down the canal, and Oli even had a go on his own.

14-Nov-04
Bitten, running late, wet. Can't say much more. We turned everything (well almost I guess) over and didn't find it Sad

25-Jul-04
Slipped up in logging this, found it a month ago now.

Took something, left something...

Interesting spot, not the kind of place you'd want to meet traffic going the other way Wink

Cheers,
BK&J
