Some genius on the city council thought it would be a good idea to build a swing bridge over the river. Apparently, itll revolutionize Ankh-Morporks infrastructure, or so the architect says. What it actually means is that, twice today, Nobbys ended up on the wrong side of the bridge with a cartload of confiscated cabbage, waving madly while the bridge spun the other way.Carrot is fascinated by the whole thingclaims its a marvel of engineering. I told him any bridge that swings like a weather vane isnt a bridge, its an elaborate practical joke. People keep gathering to watch it, trying to guess which side will open next. And then theres Detritus, who accidentally broke the crank on his lunch break, resulting in half the dockside stranded with fish that are nowby all accountsripe enough to walk home by themselves. All in all, the revolutionary bridge is causing more chaos than the old rickety one ever did. If you ask me, a bridge should stay put. But, as usual, no one asks me.

Cache 1545 Today was a day for a little time out so why not head to one of my fave places on earth, sadly I havent been in years but today I got a cracker of a day, warm, blue skies, no wind. Cant think of anything better to do than go for a walk and find some geocaches I really only had 1 caches on my must do list today to fill another spot in my D/T grid but I wasnt going to pass up other caches along the way. This cache REQUIRES MAINTENANCE I found rock pile all stacked up tidy exactly where the hint says but the cache container is missing found what was left of old log but it wasnt in good shape, CITOd the area and placed down a fresh log and baggy, hopefully CO can replace container soon T4TC

6 of the club spent night at KiwiBurn hut with pleasant company. We found this on the way out.
In 2012 the club was here and the club director found this and introduced two of the other leaders to cache. He was using his GPS to track it down for us but was searching in wrong place 12 metres away towards the river. Firekitten remembered where it was and soon had it in hand for the two of us who were doing the geocaching honour.
TFTC
JP wrote... we looked in the wrong place with southlandicebergs but then firekitten knew where it was under the stones. Thanks

Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at Mavora Lakes for a couple of days, exploring in & around the area … we were heading down to to do the Kiwi Burn Loop Track for a bit of a walk this morning … we thought it would be rude not to check out this cache while there … found this with no issues, log completed & cache returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,234 for us.

Back on the TA this time greenstone to bluff just over 300km so my last "big" section to complete..have no time restrictions so perfect opportunity to get a load of caches as I walk passed .
As you would expect the scenery is amazing and the track is pretty good..
Decided to continue onto kiwi burn hut starting to feel the long day but no stopping now...except for this one..quick find...hopefully the river stays low and I can cross further down unless I'll be coming back this way in the morning..tftc

On our way to Mavora Lakes for an Easter break, catching up with MrandMrs. The Swing Bridge caused a wee problem with pup.. not happy about crossing. Though with a lot of coercion and to-ing and fro-ing of the both of us she made it. Muggle found while I was circling near GZ. Another crossed off on my list of to-dos tftc

Found this on our Te Araroa thru-hike. Camped nearby last night and just after we finished setting up our tent it started raining. Probably should have gone to the hut... With all the cloud cover this morning our GPS wasn't working, but with a great hint it was still an almost instant find.

On my way back I spotted the cache after I had searched the complete wrong place when I started.

It's been a while since i was up this way. Didnt hesitate when asked to come up on Anzac day. Never really keen on bridges that are held up by a bit of wire, but thankfully only one person at a time so no disturbance from others. Great clue, great day. Thanks.

Came up to the lakes with DSI to check out a possible location for a lightweight camp. Called in here on the way back. Definitely a narrower bridge than further north. Had to toss up whether to look down and get feet placement right, or look ahead and trust my instincts. Think I did both. Thanks DSI for resisting the temptation to rock the bridge. (Funny, had no issues with the first one!) With the hint this was a quick find in the first place I looked.
Thanks for the smilie.

Birthday trip to Mavora, sigh hit the big 50. Parked at the gate in the dark and found the bridge. Followed my nose to the spot and after SL the dry log, changed the 200ml over to a cleaner one. Tucked away with the camo and returned via the swing bridge across the rapids. Sure were pumping away. Will try to make it to Mt Peel one day before the [virtual](https://coord.info/GCA4E0) gets archived and unlogable by Zero Gravitas. TFTC

When we left Kingston this morning, we thought we might have to adjust our plans for the day due to the weather but by the time we reached the carpark, the sun was out and it was looking like being a good day. Headed across the swingbridge and had a read of the signs, then found the cache. tftc

Super scary swing bridge. Mrs made it a third of the way and decided to do photo duty. Mr made the find got back then realised he'd dropped his sunglasses and had to go back. NINO TFTC

17-Oct-16
Co'ods were needed to get me across the bridge, which I detest with a passion³ , and I had to cross two of them this trip lol. Thankfully it's only built for one person at a time; that being the case if anyone else was to cross, I would've froze and they would need a crowbar to pry my hands loose. Wheep! I was not letting go. Considering the grade 4 rapids flowing below. The cache on the other hand was an easy find with the hints, it was yielded from the hide with a tug and a pop as it had gone to ground. Cleaned and dried the cache but the seal is perishing after 12years so if someone could replace with a 200ml sistema lid or just the blue ring seal to carry this one over for another year. The owner is well and truly inactive and one by one their caches fail. Including the virtuals I will get around to logging one day.
Chosen's logbook was sound, I changed the ripped bag and took the rusty eclipse tin home - she will have Jimny's replacement. The wee solider was still there and I taped the fireman sticker to the log cover. Added a poly bag to grab the freshened swag, sharpened the pencil and rehid after I found some more rocks nearby. TFTC
Purty sure we're still in Southland Dorothy.

Once the hint was followed to the word cache was in had. Our iPhones had us out 20-30m. Love this bush. I remember this swing bridge as a little tramper back in the 80's. Also went by here as part of Te Araroa Trail. Tftc

Quick find with Gypsyrose58 on our way home. Quickly found the cache and did some maintenance renewing log. Had an interesting time watching some crazy boys jumping off the bluff above the the swing bridge into the river, totally wouldn't recommend that, as stunning and inviting as the river was. I have original logbook if the owner would like it returned

23-Aug-15
That was an awesomely scary bridge! Cache is not able to be signed but it's in a great spot! TFTC

08-Jan-15
An easy find at the start of our camping adventure.

That was one scary bridge but worth the crossing. The river was running very fast today and that added to the excitement of the crossing. TFTC

here for 3 days camping and the weather was great a magic place to
come to TFTC The clue said it all you do not need your GPS

14-Jan-14
GPS was 27m out here, as is quite common under the Beech canopy.
Fortunatly Mrs S.t. had more faith in her caching instinct than the GPS an was onto it quick enough.
Cheers and thanks for placing a cache in such a great spot.

Start of the day. Wet!!

13-Apr-13
Found it during a walk around the Kiwi Burn Loop track, a great day out!

17-Feb-13
The other one of us had it found before I ventured over bridge. The things you do for geo caching.

Found after an overnight trip with 6 kids to kiwiburn hut. Thanks for the clue, as described previously my gps was taking me completely in the opposite direction with all the trees. I stopped and looked and yes it was obvious were it was. Had to carry the dogs over the swingbridge!, great to have a DOC walk where dogs are welcome. tftc

18-Jan-13
Easy find thanks to the hint. Doesn't need any maintenance. Cache is in perfect condition.

23-Dec-12
Found by relying on the hint more than on my GPS - it was going all over the place. The hint item is obvious once you scout around a bit - don't bother looking at your GPS once you get into the bush. Thanks Tazzie and Lizzie - replaced the pen as both the pen and pencil in the bag were stuffed.

Found it 1/2/11. Enjoyed this one, although had to resort to the clue and made the given coords to be about 18m out. Some hopeful fishermen trying their luck.Great little river and swingbridge. The logbook was found outside of the container and totally water logged and unusable, but fortunately I had a spare book back in the car,so signed that and managed to stuff it into the container, but possibly the container is not watertight. The logbook is no longer a book, but paper pulp!
We took it out of the Cache, because there was no other way to dry it inside with this wet thing in it.
Somebody else brought a single sheet of paper. It needs a new log book!

We camped at the southern end of Lower Mavora Lake Campground, one of my favourite DOC Camps.

I love this area but haven't been out this way for a while. I used to go kayaking here when I was at high school many moons ago. It's unfortunate that didymo has taken a hold though - the down-stream swimming hole doesn't look as attractive as it used to be! TFTC.
