I found this cache in November. Dropped off a TB geocoin which has not been heard from since.
Today I revisited the site to check the TB coin to see if it was still in there.
Neither the cache or any contents were found.
It's been 4 days since the last logged find. We arrived at the GZ just behind a LOTR tour group and were told in a reasonably direct manner not to stand so close and listen but to allow them ~15 mins and we could have the place to ourselves. 'This is a paid tour'.
With that attitude I would not be surprised if they have removed this themselves!!!
The cache appears to have been removed. - sorry.

Today was a day for the KiwifruitsNZ/Vamber team to finish off the remainder of the Kiwi GeoTrail, pick up a few "iconic" caches in the area, and any other caches that caught our eye on the way into the Wellington CBD. Whilst it was supposed to be an easy day, we still managed to find a few caches with terrain ratings over 3 that resulted in a few walks up and down hills that were not intended!
This was another great cache to secure, made even better by GZ being in the middle of Hobbitville! Some difficulty in navigating the slippery slope but got there in the end!

Day 3 of tackling Wellington geocaches for Team Vamber and KiwifruitsNZ. This day saw us collect the remainder of the Kiwi GeoTrail, as well as many other caches in the area. Another big day of geocaching for us!
We made the short hike up to GZ from the car and had to scramble around a bit due to the GPSr jumping around all over the show before one of the team members finally managed spot the cache! Not too many TBs in here, unfortunately! TFTC

Great sized cache. Log is getting very full. Previous finders had done an excellent job at re-hiding it. We put back as found. GeoCoin dropped off. It needs to go to the South Island next. Please leave in cache if you cannot help it on its way. Thanks for the cache. Wonderful weather for a lovely walk through the woods. No wraiths to be seen today.
Cache #52
Nice walk down to GZ, cache very exposed as pictured.
In my opinion this cache needs a new location if it is to be a refuge for TB's, but I think this cache has been targeted by a TB thief as most seemed to get logged as Not Found at Travel Bug's Wraith Refuge (Wellington) on the current listing.
I personally would not leave TB's here, it's too high risk for the owners.
There were no TB's as described being here are in the cache for me to discover today.
I would suggest leaving TB's for international departure in In Plane View [GC2CB0K] for easy access for travelers.
Happy Hunting![br][br]

Recognized this place immediately once I got closer to GZ. As a LOTR fan, it was very cool to come to a filming location and find a cache at the same time! Thanks!
Nice to find a decent sized cache! All sorts of bits of logs in there though.
Got just before a bus load of tourists arrived (and another, and another). Nice to see this place. Cache was exposed, so covered up. Took pirate TB

Found it in a trip for NZ with friends.
Nice place and nice country.
There is not TBs.
Thanks for the cache.

Walked past gc cos muggles were approaching, turn around and they're suddenly rummaging off the track. Not sure if they found it but returned via a mb loop
This was our one and only cache from our trip to NZ back in October. I'm sure I had previously logged this find, but can't find the log.
If you have any queries regarding the validity of this log, I have an image showing where I found the cache.
TFTC, M!
Edit - forgot to check the TB's in as visiting.

Came to see the hole used for the LotR's Hobbit hideout, and used this cache to get to the right vicinity. Found where they had the fake tree easily enough, but the GPS lead us on a wild goose chase up and down the slippery slope before we eventually found the right tree to check behind. Also directed some other tourists to the filming spot. Thanks for the cache.
In Wellington to babysit my nephew and niece, and what better way to keep them occupied than to go geocaching! Found the cache easily enough after searching a few trees. Huge container!
Butt0ns: The cache has a needs maintenance flag, but does not need maintenance. Please do a owner maintenance log to clear the flag. There are a number of trackables listed in here, but they are all missing. Please mark them as such. Lastly you have no attributes on this cache. Please add some. I suggest Recommended for Kids, Available at all times, bicycles allowed. There are others you could add.

chocolate&milk. Literally stumbled across it. Wasn't even looking for a cache
TFTC, Good find, lots of muggles about on the Lord of the Rings sight seeing tours. Caches is very close to the track so be careful.
Sorry about the delay on logging this find -- was flat tack finishing a project on return fromwellington, and it dropped off my 'To Do' list.
Easy find on a weekend trip to Wellington for WOW! (thoroughly enjoyable!).
Left two TBs but could not take any as it happened to be empty that day .

Found on Sunday (25 Aug). Very busy spot with lots of other geocachers around as well as Middle-Earth tour groups.
First looked at the wrong tree, but then found it easily!

Spotted this one from ages away! Be sure to cover up the sides as well as the top Found with evilsupernasty. Thanks
Took a little searching of various trees, but found it near the track. Also ran across the LOTR tour guide group. Great day for it.
All these years in Wellington and this is the first time I have visited this spot. Time to sort out my priorities.
Beautiful Wellington day, ideal for a walk up the hill. Very quiet and a good find. Thanks
The weekend's here...phew... now a spot of caching.
Enjoyed the walking about in this area, on a not-too-bad winter's day. Great views to be had.
Cache find was straightforward, after a bit of searching; all in order (although I found only one TB/trackable here, and retrieved that for travelling on), log signed and then safely re-hidden.
We were well and truly muggled by the LOTR film sites tour party and guide. Tour guide knew exactly what we were up to, and was well acquainted with the cache's existence and location. A funny moment or two. The most intriguing aspect was that, having directed the small tour party's attention to this as a site for LOTR filming, she produces a laptop and proceeds to play that part of the movie where Frodo and gang hide beneath the lip of the road. Clearly it is not sufficient to just visit where filming occurred, it is necessary to also view that part of the film whilst on site!
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

Found with Redshift. Beautiful spot even if you hadn't seen the movie. Now I need to compare it.

Get off the road! The box was in plain sight from the path, so I tried to cover it up a bit. Took the Coopers TB, and left a PAGA (Pittsburgh Area Geochaching Association) trackable coin that wants to get on its way. Thanks.
GPS still not playing ball so had to look behind a few trees to gain success. TFTC . (needs new log book)

Quick find at GZ! It was easy because the cache was not covered anymore. Recent heavy rain must have damaged the camo. Now it's ok.
Thanks for the cache!

Visiting from Ballarat, Australia, it was a beautiful day for a walk. We finally located the cache after looking on the 'up' side first. We left a TB and took two others. Left a duck too. Thanks for the hide.
Found on my 2nd visit to this location. For some reason my GPS was all over the place first time, but this time straight to it . Now that's what I call a cache box. TFTC
Found it without GPS.
Our Lord of the Ring Muggel-Guide show it us on our way. The Box is to big for this place.

Having some night-caching fun with team mpl203. Dropped off 5 trackables that we collected during our evening trip. TFTC
GPS tried it's best to lead me astray....but tracked down eventually. It was somewhat visible, I covered it over a little better, but a party of movie buffs & guide appeared, and I had to make a hasty retreat, so I can't confirm which if any TB's were present. Everything otherwise in good condition, doesn't need the 'maintenance' tag, although the log book is getting near full. TFTC.
Only black riders I saw were of the MTB variety......keep your eyes and ears open for them!

Together with family (Dolphin@sea & Whaleshark92) we explored Wellington.
If you want to see any good spots in a city? Bring your GPS !!
This trip we achieved a nice 3 out of 3.
Nr 3 was found soon enough after we decided which tree was the right one......
Had a lovely time in NZ and certainly will be back.

Finding the right area was ok but then the LOTR tour stopped right here and decided to make a hobbit pile... 10 minutes later it was time to find a cache. Had a great time watching those on the tour make a even if they took longer than I expected. Added 'down under' tb who is heading to australia, took the 'obey nz' coin which I think only arrived this morning
Also tried to find the place from the lotr film. Think we did but looked quite different. Left a tb. Didn't see any other tbs in there. Tftc
Found without many difficulties after a quick trip to Nelson for the day, just a bit of a hike up and down, and so many caches to go before it gets dark

I moved to Wellington from Canada 3 short weeks ago and I've been using geocaches to help me explore my new home. Before I left Canada, I hosted an event called the "Race to Middle-earth - There and Back Again." I brought 25 geocoins with me from Canada, and soon they'll be racing back to their owners. Before they're released, I wanted them to visit some important caches in the Wellington area, including some of the LOTR film sites. This one did not disappoint, and the woods seemed almost familiar.
While I was looking for the cache, a British couple came by holding a guidebook to LOTR filming locations. We managed to find the exact spot where the producers had erected the fake tree and roots for the movie. I've attached a photo of me in that spot.
Thanks for the fun. I really enjoyed this one. Fav point.

Great to find this one after a hour of search for the Hobbit hide tree, that is already gone .
Found while taking the long, high route walking from the CBD to the airport for my flight home later in the evening. Took a bit of searching about because my GPSr was wandering and I went for a brief slip or two!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Found on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Took some time to get GPS lock due to trees overhead, the dry conditions made it very easy to locate the cache. Took the only TB in the cache in anticipation of big OS trip. TFTC
Found after a short search - wow - what a big cache ! Dropped off a TB and picked up a couple. TFTC !
Took Geojack (My Puppy) Out For A Walk, We Found It Not Much Camoflaged I Could See Bits Of The Container Stick Out, Signed The Logbook And Took A TB Replaced By A Pen In Which Might Help Geocachers When They Didnt Bring A Pencil Or Pen, This Was A Great Experience.
Dropped off Sir Macbag the Red trackable- I would love to have taken him to the jousting tournament in Upper Hutt this weekend but I won't be going.
Found and grabbed unlogged Gelasia TB in the cache so will log it through to get things up to date.
Quite tricky to retrieve and return the cache safely without risk to the cache or myself!
Needs a new log, there are temporary sheets in there at the moment, though there are all sorts of odd spaces in the main log where people have left gaps between their logs!

I found this cache but was unable to log anything as it was soaked inside; needs some serious maintenance
Gale force wind today kept the tracks very free of muggles, so had no problems with taking my time on this one. Cache not visible from any tracks, but an easy find once in the right place off track (though not the easiest to get to, pine needles are very slippery when dry). TNLN TFTC.
Found cache while on a LOTR tour in the Wellington region, no trades, thanks for the cache M0zez and Karlos (UK)
Found this one during an early morning visit to Mt Victoria after disembarking from the Picton ferry. Good hide and it's always a bonus to find an old NZ cache TFTC.
Walked down from the 360 view arriving at GZ to find karma reprint already here searching. Took quite a few minues to locate as GPS was dancing under tress it was more a series of ellimination. Starting to get worried as we have only half an hour now to get to the airport for a flight back to the South, but eventually No 3 gave the call. Couldn't resist stopping for a second further along the path where the tour guide was pointing out a place the hobbitts hid from the horsemen in the film.
