Great day out walking. We parked the the Subaru just near bungleboori camp-site and walked in. Amazing views at GZ. We actually spotted thr cache container but decided not to risk the final 3 metres needed to retrieve and sign the cache. Great spot, thanks for the hide!
Absolutely amazing to walk in and out of these beautiful pagodas. Such a special place, and thanks for making this cache a bit more off the beaten track. TFTC
Excellent cache.
Stunning place. And a definite rock scramble.
Love the cache. Thank you.

Love the cache. Thank you.
Went in to grab this one and we found the road too cut up from 4wds so we decided to leave the car 2.9km from the cache and walked out. It was a gentle walk out to the cache we didn’t notice the slope downhill until we were headed back to the cat! The actual cache was in a great spot!!! I liked that it was up on the pagodas and we all had a sit and looked out at the view while looking through the contents of the cache and having some whizz fizz marshmallow cones. TFTC The rats, a very worthwhile cache and a decent walk on our Christmas Day.
Liked this one. Main road recently graded. Parked within 2.5 km of gz. Walked with dog down 4wd track to gz. Quick find at gz. Signed and replaced. Fav point. Tftc
The fire threat has now passed, but I'm not sure if the cache has been affected. I'll enable it but will be in the area soon to check on it.
After a hairy 4WDrive down to the Lost City and several photographs, I decided to attempt this but as it was mid week, no one around, hot and the supposed path had disappeared, I unfortunately pulled the pin 95M from the cache.
Hopefully next time with others.
Hopefully next time with others.
I had planned to do a Canyon trip today, but my friends had canceled due to exhaustion from yesterday's canyon trip. So instead we decided to find the lost city.
While our cars are suited for off road, some of the wheel ruts and chicken scratches in the trail to the city car park were too deep for us.
We got to a spot just under 1.2km from gz when we found an area with 5 extreme 4WDs very slowly coming up a very steep incline when another 7 turned up, wanting to go down.
I thought 'stuff that' and packed some water and first aid kit into a small bag and walked the rest of the way. Coincidently i over took those in 4WDs twice while on foot. They managed to all catch up to me when i was 500m from gz, and again on the way back one of them got bogged in a deep puddle and had to get dragged out.
IN THE CITY
I found my way easily to a spot 30m from gz. It got a bit harder the rest of the way, but our was well worth it. What a view!
Thanks for the cache.

This was our last find for the day. We'd been to the Glowworm Tunnels earlier in the day (our main aim for our outing -- the caching is generally incidental to my other activities), and I'd put in waypoints to get to the Lost City.
There had been some rain overnight, though I suspect there had been quite a bit in the last few days. The track from the turn-off from the Glowworm Tunnel Road was a series of mud puddles, deep ruts and many alternative tracks around the obstacles. I love picking a line and taking the 4WD through such places. And so we lurched our way over some uneven terrain and eventually got up to the viewpoint. As it was late in the day already, we didn't encounter many other people: one vehicle coming back from the viewpoint while we were heading there, one vehicle at the viewpoint when we arrived, and again one vehicle on the way up there while we were heading back towards the main road.
We spent a fair amount of time having a good look around at the lookout point and a bit beyond. I checked my GPSr and noticed that there was a cache not far off. Therefore, on our way back to the car I made the detour and headed out to find the cache. Easy find with spot-on co-ordinates. There is a crack in the container, but everything was nice and dry. I was especially grateful for the pencil in the cache because I had left my writing implements in the car and was thinking up ways I might need in order to sign the log if there were no pen there.
With my name added to the list, the container went back into its hiding spot and I rock-hopped my way back up to the parking place where the others were waiting so we could take on the rough track back to the main road again. What fun!

Another incredible spot on the plateau here, with probably some of the best pagoda scenery I have seen.
With Brew leaving me in command of his beloved CX5, we drove down the hugely cut up track towards GZ. With one area looking a bit too dodgy we took a loop that appeared to rejoin the path a little bit further along. It did, but in somewhat suicidal fashion.... Thus it was time to get out, walk down and back up a very steep gully, which had obviously provided a lot of entertainment to some serious 4WDers recently, and walk a little less than a kilometre to GZ.
What a stunning spot! The views from here are just brilliant, both the long views across the valley and those of the Lost City as well. After finding the cache we returned to the end of the trail, where a beautiful Indian model in sari and the usual copious amount of jewelery was doing a photo shoot. Just what you would expect to see here really.
Thanks for a brilliant cache.

On a caching adventure with delloro around Newnes, we stopped for this one on our return. With MrD at the helm of the Brewmobile, he negotiated the tricky trail until we reached the point where I said "NO MORE!".
From here it was an easy (well mostly easy) walk to the Lost City. And it was worth it. Unbelievable views across the valley at the une end of the road. And so many visitors, it was like Pitt St! 4WDers having a BBQ, a drone pilot filming, a dozen or more bushwalkers, and an Indian model in full sari gear making a film shoot. And two geocachers of course!
A short scramble through the scrub then it was an easy climb to GZ to grab the hidden treasure of the Lost City. Some more time checking out this amazing landscape. Truly a beautiful place to visit. The caches out this way are just fantastic.
TFTC. Grabbed the TB. Now back to the car and to make our way onto a decent road once more.

Little bit of a late start leaving home, but made it up here for a nice morning exploring the Plateau. First stop the lost city with the place to myself! Got a little lost in the "streets" finding the correct aproach to GZ, but eventually made it in. Had a good look around the end before getting 'lost' again trying to make it to GZ! Came back the next day and the track and tranquility had been trashed by hoards of much larger 4wds. Shame people think its their god given right to trash tracks... Anyway. TFTC!!!!
Finally found it! Went up and admired views but realised we weren't there yet went down and around then found it! TFTC
This was a bonus find today whilst out caching on the plateau with Webby as he'd found it a long time ago but didn't mind me detouring. An enjoyable drive here although it was busy on the tracks. Luckily went straight to the cache and then admired the views from GZ for a short while whilst Webby waited at the top. Dropped off a TB. TFTC Rats!

A day spent walking out on my own doing five caches within 2 kilometres of each other. That took around six hours all up, with caches by The Rats, Team Webguy rogerw3 and Team Stilllookin, plus around 15-20 kilometres of walking.
I parked about 2.5 kilometres from GZ when the puddles on the track turned into swimming pool sized craters.
But, it was a lovely walk with amazing views and fairly flat. The views at the top of the hill near GZ were amazing but I knew where I had to go!
So around and down I went till I was on top of a pagoda making a find and having lunch,
A great cache!!!

We camped along the way in, then had an early start to the lost city. What an awesome place. Mum had trouble thinking this was going to be sneaky. But it was in the best place! TFTC.
Checking a few borehole monitoring stations near here with muggle Mal and decided to take a break for a quick diversion. Mal had been to the lost city before during previous installation work but he was not aware of caching.
We fell into the same trap as previous cachers and scaled the wrong pagoda before identifying the correct location and finding the cache.
The fire ravaged hills are a sight to see and here and there are small pockets of unburnt bush as well. Regrowth is also on the go.
Thanks for the "it's not about the numbers" cache.

Well, climbing skills needed to retrieve this one,
also needed extra tough skin, a head for heights
and persistence. Been to Lost City many times and
found the road now in poor condition. Good area to revisit.

What an amazing place! A bit of a bush bash to get there but well worth the effort. Thanks The Rats for a wonderful cache.
TFTC great location beautiful day great views. Fortunately we had a team going increasing the search ability. Thanks for taking us to such a beautiful place. Took casino master left TB
I've been here on soooo many 4WD adventures I've lost count, but somehow we always seem to miss out on this cache. This time I can finally put this one to bed!
It wasn't without it's fair share of adventure too. We made our way down realising the cache was not quite where we expected it to be, the GPS would not behave and kept wanting me to return to Lithgow and take a diffent route to GZ this is despite placing it in off road mode and being within 100 metres of GZ!
I made my way through the bushes in shorts and getting my legs cut up pretty badly, the wind was quite gusty here today and I had to go chasing my hat on a number of occassions. I arrived at what I had expected was the right Pagoda only to see I required another 30 odd metres Damn! just as we made our way around the pagoda the wind picked up and my akubra went sailing all the way to the bottom some 20 metres below, no easy way down so we had to place the cache hunt on hold and retrace our steps back down to the bush and down around the lower pagoda's to work my way to the hat. That was no easy task we lost some half hour in the bash required to retrieve it, fortunately the cache was quite a bit easier to locate once we scaled some precarious precipices!
The return was uneventful as I could see from GZ an easy way back to the track and out of there.... always on the way out they seem so easy! Beaut day for this one Thanks Rats great to add this one to the collection, and certainly worthy of a favourite listing Cheers TNLN

Out for a day's caching in the wilds of the Newnes area with pjmpjm doing the driving (as usual). We did make this one a lot harder for ourselves than it needed to be. we zigged when we should have zagged and ended up on the wrong ridge, so we parked the Geoburu and walked along the side track to the correct one and ended up at the parking area.
A short bush bash to GZ and the cache was quickly in hand, did the duties and left a Yowie and Olympic pin.
Thanks for the great walk and the beautiful vista.

This was the morning's first find -- by rogerw3 and myself -- on our Saturday trig-and-cache expedition in the Lithgow area.
And it was a special cache for me -- my 700th GC find!
It almost didn't come about. We drove down a number of fire trails, never quite finding the right one, before deciding to undertake a 4km return walk to reach GZ. Of course, half way there we discovered the correct trail, and eventually realised that we could have driven to within 100 metres of our destination! However, by that time we were committed and it would have taken longer to go back and retrieve the GeoBuru2.
The magical 'Lost City' area was well worth the trip in any case. It's quite a unique set of rock formations and really looks like . . . well, a lost city! Certainly worth the trip. especially since you can drive there when you find the right fire trail.
We spent a couple of minutes bush bashing from the car park down to the rocks and then searching around, but found the cache without too many difficulties. The weather was a bit cool and foggy, but the rain held off until we'd completed our trek.
Cache container is still in good shape and everything was dry. TNLNSL.
Many thanks to The Rats for taking us to this special place.

omg. What a hike that was. Abrasive prickly plants and glass like rock. GZ is something else as well. The lizard living in that cave hasn't seen anyone in a while
Awesome cache.

just a fantastic spot for a afternoon lunch. took the more interesting way in with the 4wd , all in all awesome adventure for the afternoon,

My second visit to the "City". Geocaching certainly takes you further than I have gone last time. Shame the sun was already too low and rock getting grey - there are some stunning views from GZ. Had to take a pic or ten anyway. Out: SES sticker In: smiley magnet. TFTC
No chance of been Lost in this city as the road in and out was very busy (including two with camper trailers). But By the time we arrived at the parking area those cars already there headed off, leaving us to set up for lunch. Soon the BBQ was set up and some of us headed off for a walk to find the cache.
There is a trail if you go down the hill but sometimes the joy of a little bush/scrub bash must be done. Soon GZ was located and after a short discussion of the location of verious other caches we headed back, arriving just in time for the food to be served.
A great place to stop and run about, enjoy a short stroll and lunch.

Climbed to this one with Jenmen on a tour of the Newnes plateau.
Nice walk through the bracken and t-tree brushes and up and over the pergodas.
The terrain spec was spot on for this one with a little (hehe) climbing required.
Great views and photos from up top. Mugglers in our travel group took lots of photos of our antics, shook their heads and headed off back to their cars.
I have been to this place before I started geocaching. It was great to come back to enjoy the views and have an additional challenge to complete.

This was our first cache, didn't know what to expect. Very impressive location. We left travel bug 597983 "Wally" there (had to drop him off for a friend as they were unable to geocache this weekend) and took Kinzua Coin PA5D26. Great time had by the 4 adults and 1 child it took to locate item.

Found it! I have been coming to this location for years BC (before caching). Even thou it was a holiday Monday the cold had kept the crowds away and I had the place to myself. I had done the one on the other side of the valley earlier this morning so I got to see this place from all sides. Truly impressive. After 3 days of caching in and around this area the find was fairly easy. Must be getting use to it. SL at 10:18 Took TB Left Geocoin TFTC

Great location for cache. GPS was going mad though, sending me back and forth. Left 'Hogwild World Famous Travelling Geocoin'. TFTC!
Talk about getting lost in the city! We spent more time driving around trying to find the right road in than we did at the actual cache. (for those without a map we took the first firetrail to the left after the turnoff from the Glow worm tunnel Rd).
Anyway once there we loved the spot - awesome views on a hot, windy summer's afternoon. Sent geoteen up to nab the cache. Took chess set. Left casino game. Will move geocoin on - it's been there almost a year. Thanks The Rats.

After some scrub bashing (both in the 4WDs and on foot) we found the particular lost city in which to search for the cache.
Left 'Yetibratle - Never too cold' Geocoin for the next finder.
On a side note, a magnet from 36SQN was placed in this cache in 2004 (log entry) and it hasn't moved on since...someone should move it up to Amberley since that's where 36SQN have now moved.

On a day out with Dusty, I bought him down to the lost city as he hadn’t been here before. After a look around we went after the cache and all too soon we realized we were to low down the slope. So after a real scrub bash we found the cache along with some excellent views. Dusty only had shorts on and was loosing a bit of claret by the time we reached GZ. An easy path was found for the return trip and lunch was enjoyed looking over this amazing area.
Took pictures. Left footprints

Boy you gys know where to plant a cache with terific views. Tracked this one down while on a 4wd outing with code1. Found it a bit of a chalenge to get to but enjoyable once there. I am sure that the next person who goes looking for this one will find it easily as i am certain i left a prety god blod trail right to it. Thats what you get for wearing shorts i s'pose. Thanks guys.
We had been out here only once previously and we didn't get a chance to have a look for the cache as we were travelling with a 4WD club and they were in a hurry to keep going. Now we have our own geo-mobile we took all the time we wanted. Wasn't that hard in the end. Nice views and a beautiful place.
Wow - this place is brilliant. Even better with a cache to find. Took padlock and left tape measures. Thanks from Socks and son and friends. We will be on the lookout for more Rats caches.
You used to be able to drive further down than what you could do today. Walked down and found a trail which took us straight to the place where we could start looking for GZ. Hagar climbed, close to edge and the cache was soon in his hands. Took a mini measuring set and left a tyrannosaurus.
Been out to this place a few times before but for lots of reasons have never had a chance to visit the cache. Today, while out 4 wheelin' with the Jeep club we stopped here for some lunch so I grabbed my opportunity.
The "path" to the cache is not real shorts friendly, although it's not that bad either. After a scrub bash I soon located the cache, a hidden pagoda and some spectacular views.
Just Awesome!
Thanks for the cache.

Rated: for Overall Experience
The way out was much easier than the way in. On the way in I picked the best path I could, but spent most of the trip pushing my way through the low scrub. On the way back I was able to chart a path that went from rock to rock and bypassed most of the scrub. It was great out at the cache, the views made the trip worthwhile and being able to see one of these structures up close.

What can I say about this cache?
Team Webguy kicked me out of the car at the end of the track, and I wondered why they were snickering. I wondered why Webguy Junior wasn’t coming for a walk to the cache with me. I wondered why there were comments made about “start the timer nowâ€.
I soon found out! The approach to this cache is guarded by some nasty, evil scrub! (Actually it’s not too bad, but it certainly makes you work to reach your goal).
After successfully doing battle with the scrub I was rewarded with a cache and some magnificent views, which made the effort well worthwhile.
Took Keyring,
Left Lockwood Combination Lock.
Thanks Rats.

found at 1800, just about dark. Great spot for someone not so young to be scurrin' around the pagodas and carring on like a 18 year old. The whole time I spent finding and leaving this cache I kept thinking " i am getting too old for this type of mountain goat climbing" just to be told by the handbrake when i got back to the 4Wd huffin n puffin that i was a silly old goat to be climbing around these hills. Oh well u only live once and this was a first time to visit this spot and we were really pleased we made the effort. Surprised there is no cache at blackfellows hand, or is there. Took the red whistle [ thought i may have needed it for the rescue party] and left the No Smoking sign. Thanks The Rats, for a great spot. SL
Don't wear shorts!!!
Great location and well worth the visit. The log book entry about not wearing shorts is a bit late if you are standing there reading it. Those low scrubby bushes are sharp!

Great spot, great drive from Lithgow to Cullen Bullen, via Baal Bone Gap. Climbed one pagoda and it's on the next. Took 2 bugs and left an Austria key ring. Loved this one.
This was our third cache for the day on the Newnes plateau and once again the location was amidst more of those fantastic sandstone pagodas. Though this was a revisit, the great scenery was just as stunning as the first time we were here years ago. We drove down the track to the end where the track has been closed off. It was then a short walk to the actual cache location. Didn't make any swaps here but picked up the Green Wreath TB and will move it on soon. Thanks Rats for a very nice cache.
My second visit to the city. Took a couple of detours due to some new tracks that weren't there last time but there was some great 4wding to be done. Arrived at GZ just before sunset which gave some brilliant photo opportunities. Took some time to find the right path but once on the right track the find was easy. TNLN.
What a great location! Out for an afternoon with my "mates" from the Beers, Pies, & 4wd club. It was there first time geocaching. Wish I'd bought stock in Garmin! Ther're hooked. Took Robo Car, Left Dental Kit (forgot trading material) and Wreath TB. Will upload pictures later.

Truely a magical place with rock formations intricately carved into pagoda shapes by mother nature. We looked on in awe of the beauty of the area. Thank you for bringing us here The Rats. Took travel bug and left SES whistle.
Yet another beauty on the Newnes Plateau. Found this one without too much difficulty but boy did our legs cop a caining. Left the gaiters back at the car. Nice Sunday arvo out.

Just to prove we are still around, we did this one on the way back from Waratah spotting at River caves canyon.
Easy peasy lemon sqeezy once the GPS pointed us to the right mound.
We could see the previous GZ from the top of the track, geeze, how many years ago was that?
Fairly scrubby, but there was a bashed track most of the way.
Good one Rats!

Found it!! Our first cache. We too, were on the other side of the gully at one stage. But, we enjoyed getting around to it. The tracks other than the 'appropriate track' are well worth exploring as well. Had a great day. We're hooked.
Took dragon letter opener. Left 50 yen TB

Mad dash to find this on the way out of the park, just as the sun was starting to come down. Bush bashing was a bit too bashy for the geokiddies but yours truly bravely soldiered on. Finding a trail, even from the recommended start point, was not that easy. And long pants are a definite bonus!
Sneaky positioning meant I spent a few minutes going round and round the cache but once located, wow! What a fantastic spot. Only wish I'd had more time to enjoy it.
TNLN.
Thanks for a great cache.

Went with Family and was so pleased... The views from this point are absolutely brilliant...We like others took the longer way to get there and the shorter one back...Thank you Rats it was well worth the bush bash...

Found this one after a lot of driving around with no map. At one point I was looking across the gully to where the cache was trying to decide if it would be quicker to walk across or drive around. It is a top spot and well worth the drive.
Nice easy find. NOT!!!
We went searching with some fellow members of our 4WD club during a weekend in the area. I knew roughly where it was, but getting to it from the main track was a completely different story. We didn't find the easy way until our return journey.
Many scratched legs later, we arrived in the right place and with a little rock hopping, located GZ. We took some stuff and left some stuff, but I can't remember what.
I reckon the formations over this side are better than what most people mornally see.
Thanks Rats.

This was the first cache for or tour today (and only with rain cutting things short)With 4m to go we found the right track a spotted the cache straight up, After doing a couple of Rat caches the hiding spot was no surprise.
Great work Rats

Sure was a hard slog. Batteries went flat within 2 metres. Took nothing but pictures because I left goodies in the car
It would have helped if I was looking in the right place, a previous expedition here had me in the wrong spot and a little confused. Sought some advice and was happy to find the pot of gold.
Took screwdriver set and left something.
Thanks Rats

I was planning on spending the weekend up on Newnes Plateau, putting in a couple of new caches (only one actually made it in) and mapping some of the extra tracks with my GPS. I experienced a few flurries of snow during the day, but nothing really to worry about. By about 3:30pm it was becoming clear that the weather was deteriorating to the point where a night under canvas (ripstop actually) would be quite an unpleasant experience, so I decided to bail. Apologies to all you hard core snow campers out there. Anyway I figured I should at least find this cache before heading home to the warmth of the reverse cycle air con.
Anyway I made my way to the track head when the heaviest snow fall of the day started. The Lost City looked wonderful with the snow falling across the valley. I grabbed the GPS and made my way to GZ. In my haste I did 3 things wrong. I forgot my swaps, I forgot my camera and I fell over in the bushes. I found the cache, wrote in the logbook and returned to the car. By the time I got back the snow had stopped falling and had already melted on the ground. There were however a few small patches of snow in protected corners so I took a couple of photos of them and also of a patch of bracken fern covered with snow on the Clarence Road.
Thanks to The Rats for the fun, freezing caching find from The Ginger Loon.

A nice late afternoon stroll with Riblit to this cache, once again the views are worth the effort. No major hassles were detected with finding this cache appart from one, TANGLES, he had beaten us to the virgin cache. Took the SES whistle(perfect for the boat) Left a 36 SQN fridge magnet..

The last cache today, Swampgecko and I arrived at the rocks across the track as the sun was preparing to make its descent. We headed down the track, ignoring Ratboy's suggested easy walking track we headed along a small gap in the shrubbery that appeared to lead in the correct direction. Lead it did and we eventually arrived at GZ. Swampy was on point and found the cache waiting as all good caches do. We signed the log and made our way back to the track along the rocks. A group of muggles had arrived while we were out of sight but we gave them the slip and left the area as the sun slipped beneath the horizion, bathing the sky in red.

Geocaching in Sydney seems to be going through a funny phase and hopefully it will come to an end soon. Cachers logging finds on caches that have been removed or have gone missing, others hiding joke caches and only those in on the joke can log finds. So you never seem to know what you will encounter when you set off on a cache hunt any more. Then after reading Webguy spent 45 minutes combing the area you ask yourself what type of comb is this guy using and wouldn’t a rake or a stick be better. So after spending the night fighting off Black Panthers we packed what was left of our tent and set off for the cache.Don’t recall those rocks blocking the track last time we where here but at least they keep the riff raff out. As we where walking down the hill we noticed a fresh set of boot tracks heading our way and they even turned off at the right location. Lost them through the bush but picked them up near the cache again and thought someone had found the cache the day before. But the logbook was empty so we guess it must have been a bushwalker going for a walk.Took something. Left Something.
Hmmm, our second cache attempt ever and on this day, spent 45 minutes combing the area, could not find it, though, the area looked pretty well trampled. GPS said I was 1.3mtrs from it, just could not find it. [[B)]
