Find #1879
I'd spent the morning and early afternoon checking on one of my caches and scouting the area near it for possible future cache locations. The weather was perfect for being out in the bush. Just the right temperature, enough wind to dry the sweat on my face and keep the flies away and lots of sun which is something that has been sadly lacking these past two weeks.
I needed a find for today and when I realised just how close I was to this cache, it was an obvious choice. Finding this one would give me a find for today, add to my total of Mystery caches and also add to my total of Archived caches found.
A nice walk to GZ but then a crisis of confidence arose when I suddenly began to suspect that the co-ords in my GPS were the original co-ords, not the corrected ones. Fortunately my caching partner Stemicmitsar, a previous finder of this cache was only a phone call away and Steve allayed my fears.
I spotted the cache whilst I was talking to him.
As per the previous found logs, the container had water in it and the log itself was a sodden mess. I managed to sign my name on the cardboard cover using my special biro.
I replaced everything so it was all as I found it. I doubt anyone will visit this cache anytime soon.

Rebel Acts and I spent another enjoyable few hours wandering the eastern and southeastern suburbs looking for plastic containers. With many hills conquered I was able to hang up the boots tonight with 42 finds. A few drinks later and I was fast asleep content with the experience. Thanks. Archived but available.
Found @ 8:05am, find # 3449.
This week I was running solo, so I decided that I would go for early morning run, I left home and the weather was fine, only to find the weather at my target area to be not as good, oh well a bit of moisture is not going to hurt.
We will call this reserve, the two for one reserve with the five new Pinkpiggy caches as well as the five old archived caches from Da Bugs, but one seems to be missing, plus another that I had already found.
I already had the coordinates for this one before I entered the reserve and this one was only about 35 metres away from the Pinkpiggy7 cache, so with a hop, skip and a jump, I was there, it then took a little while to locate but with the help of the hint I was able to find this well covered cache that had not been found for over two and a half years. The cache was full of water and the logbook was soaked but I was still able to sign my name to it.
Thanks to Da Bugs for placing this cache.

We are no longer involved with Geocaching so I will archive this series of Geocaches.
Found with Spladem and Sir James Oz while on a late night run. We all really enjoyed the walk in area at this late hour. This final cache was a fun way to end the series. Sir James made the find on this once in a place I am sure we already looked. TFTC
Found with C@H and Sir J Oz after the well attended 11 11 11 @ 11 11 event just down the road.. This place had a bit of an earie feeling to it at this hour of the night.. Thanks Da Bugs for bringing us here for this nice little series.. We took turns making the finds and soon had em all in the bag.. TNLN Dipped various bugs and coins.. find #1852
Found @ 3:00. I tagged along on a post 11.11.11.11 event cache run with C@H and Spladem to do this series. We divided up the tasks at GZ, with Covert logging, Spladem cleaning up the cache contents, and I grabbed the info for number 5. After the easy logical combination of the 4 pieces of coordinate from the traditionals, we headed off for the puzzle location. It took a bit longer to find this one, but eventually I made the find (after Spladem reckons he'd looked there, which is funny because we were talking about this phenomenon on our walk to this location). Took detritus, left nothing, log was signed and an enjoyable time was had. Thanks for the cache, and the series.
2.19pm
I was in the area and on the hunt for a group of caches that were not micros and I could walk between them, this series hit the nail on the head.
After finding the final clue in the nearby number one, I was able to work out the final co ords, and head down to the final cache of this fantastic series. The search at gz took a bit longer then the others for the series, but eventually I was able to find it, a little damp inside, but it was there, about five meters from where my gpsr was telling me
Thanks to Da Bugs for the cache as well as the whole series, a fantastic experience, well worth the energy used up and down those hills.

12:30 - found after a short search and guessing the missing piece of the puzzle, which proved to be correct. Cache is very damp in its current location, and all of the log books are full and need replacing.
This series of caches was ment to be a relatively quick find on the way to dinner but due to how steep it is I was late to dinner. Good series of caches.TFTC
Really enjoy walk around this park to collect all the clues before find this one.

12:45 pm. The walk to get the clues was pleasant, the walk to GZ wasn't. Very enjoyable cache series and puzzle. TNLNSL. TFTC. Kems.
Couple of hours to spare today so grabbed a co-pilot and dashed off to do this set in one go.
Nice set of clues that worked first time in a area once familiar to us both.
Trailertrash78 and I both seemed to have lived not too far away for the roads to be very familiar and brought back memories of that horrible event.
Both our families moved away from area after the fires but the area has recovered well - too well, to my mind in some areas.

Finally found it! It turns out the other time I was looking in the wrong spot. My mum found it when we were just about to give up.TFTC
Had a look at three large fallen logs and still couldn't find it. I'll have to look for it some other day. I wonder where it could be[?]
24-01 5th find of the day at 15:39 and 855th find in total.
Got here after a bit of a u-turn and after a quick look around found where previous seekers had dug around but obviously not in the right area because that's the cache over there!
the container was wet so we rescued the geocoin as we signed the log.
Now what's the best way back to the car?
(''\(OoO)/'') Thanks Da Bugs for the caching fun!

@ 9.20am Find #650
The co-ords took me straight to the cache!
Cache had a small amount of water in it, cleaned it out as best I could and sighed the damp log book. Had just put the cache back when I received a phone call from the previous finder apologizing for his mistake and was going to return the clue ASAP [^]
Bet there wasn’t this kind of technology when this series was first placed
Thx for some great caches and a fantastic walk Da Bugs.
I can still remember quite vividly what I was doing on that dreadful day, lest we forget

#5/5 FTD we got this one eventually after about 15mins search GPS hectic. What an intresting area and with no one around. The tragedy here was long before we came to Aus, but it gave us a reminder of the similar Black Saturday tragedy this year. Cache still good but a bit wet inside. TFTC and series

Found after visiting the other 4 caches in the series. We really liked the method you used to supply the final coordinates. We are the first visitors to the caches for quite a few months, and feel that this time of year is a great time to do them. No snakes yet (well, we didn't see any!) and not too hot. Very pleasant. Thanks for a great series.
Doing this series with squalid today, we managed to do them in exactly the wrong order, which turned out to be ideal in terms of not having to visit the same area twice. Nice walk in the bush on a perfect day.

Found it, but only just! After rummaging for close to 30 minutes in an area that just didn't feel right, I resorted to calling a couple of friends to avoid having to go back to all the caches again. Luckily for me one helpline had the info and I was right, one digit off on the S coords! But the bad news was it was further down the hill!
My legs sure hurt when I got back to the car, but the last 400m on the bike was fun!
Thanks for a very physical test, I really earnt this one.

After battling a lot of hills, didn't realise how unfit I was, finally got all the coordinates for this one from the previous 4. Found the dedication to the firefighters that died and went on to the cache. Searched under every fallen tree, especially the big one we found, and in every other hiding spot possible. Unable to locate this one Have marked GPS location and will try it again another day. Finally back up another hill to the car. Thanks for the challenge.

This is our 40th find.
After finding the other four on Friday, and running out of time and light to find this one, we came back on this sunny Sunday morning to find the last cache in the series.
We enjoyed our short stroll in the sun and found the cache, using the clue that we thought wouldn't be helpful but it actully was!!
Took finger puppet, Left bouncy ball & spikey pet. SL.
Thanks again for a good series of caches in a nice setting, dedicated of course to a very worthwhile memorial.

After we let acid and cherryber.. hide it again we found it.
Always thought it was not permitted to have caches hidden so close to each other but it was a nice walk.

It has been about 10 months since I finished the others in this series. I did not get around to this one then but today I made the find, finally when in the area. TNLN thanks Da Bugs.
To the smell of someone's open fire and with the rain bringing out the residual ash smell together with the burnt remnants of the fire this was hell for me. The whole area reminded me of the friends that died in the fire and my own personal hell of Ash Wednesday and it's aftermath. TFTC Da Bugs from an ex-home owner of Cockatoo.
We found the final cache at 4:40pm today. The clue was used as the GPSr didn't like the heavy foliage here very much! TNLN and SL.
Thankyou Da Bugs for a great series. We enjoyed being in this reserve and finding your caches on this lovely sunny day. Seeing and paying our respects to the Ash Wednesday Memorial was something that we are glad to have done too.

After a quick calculation as to where this cache was located we headed off again. Just missed a heavy rain shower so our timing wasn't too bad. It was interesting to see the ash Wednesday memorial as we wandered past too. Might have been good to tie this into the series somehow.
Anyway enjoyed it all.

We checked out the memorial on the way after No.4.
The final was easily found with none of the formentioned problems with bullants. In fact, they would have need gumboots or scuba gear to be around here today.
Thanks very much for the series and the walk around the park.
Thanks, Robmc.

The final of the series had me back in a spot I'd just happened to pass earlier in the day and a fairly quick find was had after using the clue. Again, the cache was fortunately placed to avoid the burnoff over Easter and luckily I didn't encounter any bullants - maybe the heavy rain of the previous day had forced them to move elsewhere .
TNLN
Thanks Da Bugs - an excellent series which has been well thought out and well placed.

When I entered the coordinates I found that the cache was quite do-able with no private property involved, and with the clue again found it easily. It was fun walking around this area in the forest, and it is easy to forget that the Australian bush can be quite dangerous when dry as we are currently experiencing elsewhere. Thanks Da Bugs for putting these here and reminding us of where we are.
Having done the rest of the series, and gone back to get the clues, I am back at #1. Key in the final co-ords and it’s only a Km away so it shouldn’t take long.
BUT 300m from GZ I am faced with no way through private property. The mapping GPS shows no closer roads, so this is going to need some more research to find the way in.

Found @ 14:27 with Scooters Mob. Nice walk - good for us fatties. Huffin' and puffin'...well I was anyways. Can't imagine how hard it would have been for firefighters working in this area during the fires. Oh, and Big bitey ants - don't stand still or you'll get carried off for dinner T: Koala L: Snoopy + Next! Stamp SL & got outa there ASAP!
Found @ 14:25. Seventh of 10 for the day out caching with Next!. Found the cache did my log and waiting,(always waiting) for Next! when I noticed a BIG bull ant walking on the sapling next to me. Did the right thing and didn't hurt it. Pity his fellow ants didn't do the same for me. They hurt when they bite so after dispatching the ants trying to make a meal of me I got out of there real quick and left Next! as a sacrifice. In Horse Out polishing Cloth TFTC.
Finally this terrible ordeal has come to an end. We located the final cache. Found at 12:45. This has been a fantastic series and the ordeal was made harder because we tackled it after 2 days of solid rain. At least we did not see any snakes. I think we walked about 7.5 kms according to the pedometer.
Took: Sydney Harbour Key Ring.
Left: Koala in his natural habitat.

Once we had all the details and knew where the 5th cache was located we decided to use our vehicle to drive to the nearest access point by road. Once there, it was back on shankses pony to make the final assault.
This was indeed an enjoyable series and we needed the exercise!!

I had visited the other caches in this area some time ago but had run out of time to find this final one. Came in from the other end and found I had to resort to the clue as the GPS had me a little distance away and the reduced visibility due to the darkness (7:20pm) meant some difficulty in locating the cache.

This was my fourth find in the series of 5. How lucky I was that the one cache I hadn't yet found contained the clue that could be intelligently guessed. I doubt I could have faced another walk up that big hill today. As I was struggling up the hill, lost in my own thoughts, I was nearly run over by a cyclist!!! I remember Ash Wednesday clearly. Our cousins, in Cockatoo lost everything and we spent some weeks following helping them clean up and rebuild temporary accomodation. My sister and her family and my mother also had their evacuation plans in place, but fortunately didn't have to leave. My sister also taught at one of the local schools where many families were affected and it was interesting to see the art work of the children reflecting the terror they had experienced.
Collectively this was one of my most enjoyable caching expeiences, probably because it is in the bush where I feel so very much at home. Thanks Da Bugs. TNLN

Did it. got them all on the same day not without some very clear learnings. I spent a good 40 minutes looking for this cache at the published co-ord. Why? because I didn't take the clues with me, I relied on my GPS to tell me where the next closest cache was, which after the first one just happened to be this one. Learning: either provide an ID in my GPS to show I need other co-ords or take and read the clue sheet. Good fun afternoon.
Thanks for a great series. Let us not forget, the sacrifice that our fire fighters make to protect us. Let us not take the job these men and women do for granted.

Yet a great series. One that can be done in under an hour with some better light. By now S's torh was running low. As it only has a 30 minute life time. My torch soldiered on. But one torch was not really enough for a thourough search. Found tha hding spot soon after. While filling out the log book we noticed Bull ants.. not one, not two, but dozens of them all crawling around. We both got bitten and had to have stick fights to get them away from the cache container. I hope that we didn't leave any behind. If so they will die in there sooner or later. Thanks to Da bugs for a great series from M.B and S.B-A (team rabbitto) TNLN

Having done the other 4 caches, we set out for this one, had a minor rebellion and I ended up going most of the way on my own. Note for future visitors - go anti-clockwise!. GPS was way out on this one, I was searching on the wrong side of the track for a while but it eventually settled down. Nice big box. Took metallic coaster, left a handheld computer game, and then slogged back up to the top. Certainly some rugged country. I can envisage the fire going through there at a rapid rate.
The memorial is very moving, sitting as it is in the middle of the bush. Quite fitting. I remember Ash Wednesday well, living in Upwey, 9 years old at the time. Watching the stream of evacuees heading down our road to safety, sitting by the empty swimming pool watching the smoke and ash all around. Some very brave souls were lost on that day. This series of caches is a great idea to get people to visit and remember. My nephew Paul is in the junior fire brigade and he is going to find out more about it now. Thanks Da Bugs.

Found by Mary & David at 1300. Finally reached the end of this moving series that reminds us all of the risks of living in the bush, as well as the bravery and sacrifice of those who volunteer to fight fires. Took dominos, left silver coaster. Our thanks to Da Bugs for setting it all up.

Oh, you must be kidding.
That was the first thought in my head when I realised where the coordinates would take me.
Not impressed, really. I've literally just been there.
Nevertheless, the passion for the find overrode the desire to collapse so I set off to the cache location.
Fortunately lots of disturbance around GZ led me directly to the cache.
I took a bath bomb and left a finger puppet.
I also took a break and I knew I would require all of my energy to get back to the car again.
Thanks to Da Bugs for a very nice series.

After refuelling with food, found with Sikma at 14:47. The rain had stopped and was now very nice. Can't imagine what it must have been like for those fire fighters that day. Thanks Da Bugs for showing us this great reserve.
Thanks to Da Bugs for this final to the series. Jazwoz and I found it after lunch at 14:47. A nice tribute to those who gave it all in something I can even remember seeing as a six year old from my Grandmothers in the suburbs.
We were getting a bit tired, having been rained on, Cat slipped a few times (>100!) and those mozzies were really getting a bit aggressive. Found at 4.30pm and we were greatly relieved. Now where is the Patrol to take us out of here [xx(].
Took: Batteries and Geo Sticker, Left: Domino set.
Great way to commemorate the fatefull event Da Bugs.

What a great series of caches to find on AFL Grand Final day.
The area here must have been horrific on that fateful day in February 1983.
Paused for about 5 minutes at the memorial for the kids to appreciate the enormity of the situation the fire fighters found themselves in.
I only hope that the change in fire fighting methods to better protect the fire fighters continue to work and a tragic day like this is prevented from occurring again.
Took nothing but reflections, left nothing but our thoughts for those who went before us.
Thanks for this cache series DaBugs

After finding the 4 and then i spent a few moments looking around for this one, i found it after a while, was a geat day.
And I thought that the hard work was over. I have decided that 'steep' is NOW a 4 letter word, and one that I don't say any more. Phew, what a climb! The satisfaction of completing this series of five (my first), was definitely worth the climb and effort though. Soon had the cache in my hand, and a happy cacher I was too.
I must say "thank you" to Dak for keeping me company, holding the 'brolly, and for his patience during the climb.[:X] Thanks Da Bugs for five great caches.

After No4 it was off to this one but I thought I had already entered the other half of the coordinants. I spent way to long searching about 40 meters up the hill from No3 until I worked out that what was on my sheet and what were in the GPSr were two different things.
So with that little issue under control it was of to real GZ.
Found after 5 min.
Out Winnie Compas TB
In Cisco Pen
Thanks Da Bugs for an interesting series and may it never happen again (the fire) - a good twist on somthing so bad.
(is burning off undertaken here - hope caches are ok?)

After sorting out my navigational problem I finally found the cache.
This was the first time I have visited the area, photos I have seen of the incident didn't anywhere near show the amount of upslope this fire raged up.
Hopefully with the amount of training volunteer's gain these days, no-one will ever find themselves in such a position again.

Having visited the previous 4 caches (successfully), it wasn't clear to me if there should be a cache here or at the coordinates I had collected while "doing the circuit", so I looked here for a cache (with no success - although there were some very promising possibilities), so headed off to the calculated co-ordintes where I found what I was looking for. It was starting to rain again, and there was a long, long, long (get the idea) walk back to the car once I had found the cache.
All in all an entertaining day out. I did stop and read the plaque on the memorial - a little close to home considering I'm in the process of joining the local volunteer fire brigade - I hope I can be a little more lucky than these folk. If not for the memorial, you'd not think this part of bush anything special.

Thanks Bugs!
Now, I'm off to a hot bath and a cool drink!

After finding 1, 4, 3, and 2, it only remained to find the final cache. After a stiff uphill walk (I've got to get fitter!) and a short search, it was mine at 1220. This was an enjoyable series of caches (except for the dogs--see my log for AWM3 about the dogs near the western border of the reserve). I'll come back in summer to get a proper feel for the place without the squelching mud and slippery tracks (I'm glad I decided to wear my Blundstone boots). I've done two-fers and three-fers, but this is my first five-fer--thanks for that [^]. All that remained was to complete the steep climb back to my car.
Thanks Da Bugs for the five caches. I'll be back soon to log your other caches; next time I'll bring a cut lunch!

Having determined where the final cache was after the first two caches in the series, Kiwideb and myself realised that by proceeding along our planned circuit we would pass right by this the final cache.
After a bit of a look around, I was able to beat Deb to the cache. And being the focus of the five caches, I think that it counts for a double find. I took a miniature china figurine and left a souvenir keyring.
Thanks Da Bugs, for an excellent series of caches, all within a short walk of each other.

Last of the Ash Wednesday and this was such a great walk or caches. Searched for a while and no luck so we broadened the search area. Muzza found this one 1st. Cache was found at 230pm. Swapped lamb chops for a dinosar.
Thankyou Da Bugs for taking the time to put these caches out.
I was given a rundown on what Ash Wednesday was my Muzza on our walk around this park. I had heard bits and pieces over a bit of time but not the whole story. I liked the monument on the top for those that lost their lives.

Well the challenge was on! Just as Rabbitto had wondered if we were out at the same time, & if it would be close, We were now wondering if the Coffee’s were still at it, or if they had already been. Even my 4 y.o. chicken was wondering who would get there 1st, & was heard to say at one point [8)]“hurry up dad, lets go before Team Crackers comesâ€Â. Obviously she was quoting us from past “treasure huntsâ€Â. Mother Hen simply said “ this hidden park gets 10 points from meâ€Â, & it was great! A little piece of real bush [^]
Having done all the 4 pre-requisites we started heading along the track from #1 to the Grand Finale (knowing we would soon be carrying the young chicks ). Just then, in front of us landed a beautiful little Gang-Gang. As it paused to drink water from a puddle in front of us, flashing it’s exquisite crest, the male gracefully descended from the tree above. I was wishing I had brought our camera. We watched these little beauties drink for a time, - & then remembered the Coffee’s
At the final location we looked for about 6-7minutes when my wife said “this looks like a good spotâ€Â. We then found ourselves secretly trying to beat the other in a not so dignified rush for the booty, which was found by mother hen, well ahead of the rooster . It is a while since we have seen a large-ish cache container (which we love –allows for far greater treasure opportunities), & so was much annoyed with self for not bringing some of the great large swaps back in the car. Anyhow – Great park, Great series, Great hiding spots.
Took: Wombat; Left: pair of dice, 2 x AA batteries, geocaching tattoo
Thanks sincerely to DaBugs for doing a fun “non-multi†cache series, easy to find (much better for the kids), & all within very easy walking distance, thus not having to load the kids back into the car all the time [xx(]. This series will be well remembered! Very Well Done DaBugs

The elusive final cache. These final locations are designed to test you to see if you have written everything down right, or you will have to revisit found caches. Like Santa after checking things twice, to see if Shelby has been writing naughty or nice (hope naughty), we were off to find the final location and we succeeded.
Mr.Coffee and Shelby really enjoyed this series
Well done and thanks Da Bugs and family for this series dedicated to memories of Ash Wednesday, you have done a top job (excelled) in setting these up.
I was in this area during Ash Wednesday working as a emergency supplies driver and it is great to see the area's regrowth.
Taken Octopus strap (needed in Landcruiser to help Patrols)
Left Credit card wallet, and temp tattoo.

Saw this series come on this morning, woke number one up and said let's go. We lived adjacent to this park on Ash Wednesday and know only too well the perils of the area and the bravery of the firemen. Our house was saved by them dumping a cement truck full of water in the fires path.
After meeting up with Da Bugs at the last clue and having a pleasant chat we were off to find this one. We found an interesting fact, that if you reverse the numbers on one of the clues it will take you to a very likely spot a lot further away than is necessary. Even when we deciphered the clue it described the area exactly so an hour of wasted time later we discovered our mistake and found GZ very easily. Our GPS was showing only a 3 metre variation
Took Spider
Left Dinosaur

Found at 4:15pm. We had been beaten to the 1st place at #1 by Team Crackers and were being beaten to #2, #3 and #4 by both Team Crackers and Chookies. Had we beaten Chookies to the final cache? After a fifth easy find for the series, we opened the box to check the logs. First log - Team Crackers, that was a given. We thought that they would have been up here at the crack of dawn. (And their log confirmed it). Second log - blank...yay. As it turned out, our cat and mouse game with Chookies was all in our imagination as Chookies had only done the three caches, then gone home. Oh well. It added spice to our day.
We finished off by taking a look at the memorial to the firefighters and to contemplate the series of events that would have taken place in 1983. The place seems so innocent and its almost unbelievable that these fires can turn on you so quickly that there is no time to run or hide.
Thanks for the visit to this park Da Bugs from D & S B-A.
Took a squeaky frog, left a bubble bath frog and a mondo.
By the way, the co-ordinates seemed fairly well spot on.
