Day four of my Three Corners tour, visiting all three of Queensland's remote western corners over 12 days. After visiting Haddon's corner yesterday and camping in the dunes nearby, the plan today is for a slow day, only travelling as far as Birdsville. As far as distances go, today was a short day on the road. With all the recent rain, the wildflowers were in full bloom. Some light rain overnight dampened our enthusiasm for a quick start and slowed our pack up the next morning.Arriving in Birdsville, we attended to the necessary chores - fuel, provisions and so forth, before checking into our accomodation at the pub. Wet swags quickly covered the pub carpark to dry in the sun and the pub laundry got a working over. Whilst waiting for the load of laundry, I offered to go for a drive with my young learner driver second cousin, who is keen as mustard to get some hours up. Of course, I had an another motive for the excursion and this was the first cache found. All in good order here. Many thanks Gordon Patrick SamuelPete#7,986 at [12:48][16:16]
Beautiful view from here!Easy find Worth the drive off the road**** Note to next visitor- there is no pen to sign the log so if you have one or a small / half pencil grab it. ( I walked from the van park as Im stuck in town for a while car less ) the walk is lovely so will endeavour to bring one soon
Found this cache whilst on our two month adventure throughout central Australia and remote parts of WA.Spending 2 nights in Birdsville after crossing the Simpson. We opted to walk around town and drove out to here where we made a quick find. Thanks to all the COs for adding to our adventure. TFTC
Thanks for the cache. Really enjoyed our wander around town today. Thanks for adding to the fun!
Continuing our town exploration. After visiting the town cemetery, parked nearby and went up the wee hill in search of this oldie. Found in the third bush we searched. Cheers GPS et all for this oldie active.
A quick find with a lovely view of Birdsville. We have enjoyed our stay and thanks for the caches.
My 2nd time here, came with wazza9 in 2011, I was not caching then, that is why we are visiting now. Signed log and replaced. Thanks to CO
13220 Located by baby&Mrs gopher at 1100. The container had lost the lid and the stash and logbook had been blown around. All that could be found of the logbook was the top cover and spring. We replaced the logbook with a new one, picked up what we could find of the contents and made the hide site a little more secure. SL Tnx Gordon Patrick Samuel
Our journey to North Queensland will take us through many different towns.
Here's one to find today. Thank you for placing the cache Gordon Patrick Samuel.

This was our first Birdsville cache, it was a long walk around the airport, but worth it

How to get all the counties, or councils, or "LGA's"?....... well, I have learned the hard way, albeit quickly, to do the "hardest" ones first!
We could have just driven from Canberra to Perth to get the amount of kilometres, but instead we thought we would push ourselves a bit harder, drive a bit further.....and do the south west corner of Queensland!!
It has to be said now....Queensland is a bloody large state. I mean ridiculously large! We drove east back to Brisbane for almost three full days! Yes, we stopped for a series of letterboxes, and all of the 'county' areas, and even a FTF, but it was ludicrous!
After our flight from Canberra, and collecting our rental, we head off west from Brisbane, on a mission to collect every LGA we could get.
Aquilus1 lost her voice after the first day, which made the rest of the trip much easier for me....I had to do all of the talking, and it helped I could argue both sides of every argument....and I always won!
Outback town hotels and pubs are so cool, and I love stopping at them. When I started caching I was wary as I only knew city pubs, which are very, very different.
I tried many a schnitty, and the odd steak, pizza or burger.... this truly was the outback pub tour of Queensland.
The Qantas museum was a special highlight, as I am a proper Qantas fanboy......I have done waaaay too many miles on the red roo!

Being a nice older cache this was our first cache while in Birdsville, so more a hello not a bye-bye. Walked out which was hotter and longer to get around the airport but wasn't too bad.
Greyhams and I have been on a mission to see as much of Australia and visit as many of the LGA's as possible for some time now. This trip was Queensland, flying into Brisbane and a full 8 days on the road stopping for as many of the caches of interest we had time for as we passed through.
Leaving Brisbane northwest was our direction, as far west as we could go all the way to Birdsville. Of course, it is a Geocaching trip so it zigged and zagged as needed to cover the areas required. Yulaba, Charleville, Barcaldine, Ilfracombe, Longreach, Windorah, Birdsville, back to Windorah, Quilpie, Thargomindah, Cunnamulla, St George, detour to Moonie for a FTF, Wyaga, Warick and the home run back into Brisbane for our flight home.
Love the driving as we left behind the trees and entered red earth and sparseness, always a surprise though passing through areas of yellow grassy plains, although generally open flat land in all directions was what greet us. Wildlife was in abundance and never have we seen so much. Emus dominated for 1000's of km, cattle as we passed through their grazing lands, but also pigs in numbers we didn't expect. Echidnas, goats, horses, a giant goanna, foxes, and birdlife that does well on the overnight roo casualties. Still no camels though, they have to be out there somewhere!
The country hospitality was a highlight, great friendly people, Queensland hotels full of history and character. They all were great but the Wellshot in Ilfracombe needs a huge shout out for being the stand out of this trip. Leaving the car at Windorah and flying into Birdsville not only saved a day of driving but the scenery flying low over the countryside was spectacular and memorable.
Also memorable was waking up on the second day with the best case of laryngitis I have ever experienced... no voice, none! To top it, it lasted the full trip only returning by the end, I'm not sure if I pity GreyHams for having to deal with me squeak in an attempt to talk and silenced, or he had the best trip ever!
The days were full, either full of km's or caches but never dull with so much to see or do. The caching grounds are rich thanks to the QOGM events, it's definitely a great location to hold them. Many thanks to all the CO's for your caches that helped guide us as we travelled through Queensland on a great trip.

Nice easy find on a very cold morning while spending time in Birdsville before the Big Red Bash. We’re very pleased that there are a few caches here to get us out and about. TFTC
A quick and easy find on a cool sunny day in Birdsville on our way to the Big Red Bash. TFTC.
Windy day out in Birdsville before we head out to the Big Red Bash tomorrow. TFTC
We're in Birdsville for the first time and enjoying exploring. Great to make a gps find. Thanks for arranging
We aren't leaving Birdsville yet although we are all committed to being gone before the big crowds turn up for the races. There are already some venders and retail vans in town. Thanks for the cache.
We have only just arrived and will be here for a few days (a couple of us had car issues) but took the opportunity to grab this one today. Thank you for placing this cache and keeping it going for so long.
After a great night at Betoota with micaparamedic, papi4506 and geoturtle37 we woke up a little bit worse for wear and headed off to our next destination which was Birdsville.
This was to be our last cache for the day as happy hour was looming and it was perfect weather for downing a few. We pulled up on the track and wandered up to gz where the cache was located after a short search and the log book now contains our name. After returning everything as it was we stood overlooking the town and the peaceful runway thinking how this was going to change next weekend when the rescheduled Birdsville races will be on.
Many thanks Gordon Patrick Samuel for the hide, now we just have to get that stupid song out of our heads.

While we weren't leaving Birdsville just yet, we set out to wander around the whole town on our last evening. We wandered past a local dog-walker and said g'day, and looked around the cemetery, which was very interesting as well.
Found the cache without too much trouble, TNLN. Although there were a few bugs flying around the place so we didn't stick around for too long.

A lovely stroll gave us a chance to see some interesting plantlife. Took an Aussie flag sticker and left an Elmo from a cache near the NSW/QLD border. (COVID free as we collected him over a year ago!)

yeah Bye Bye for now
Neat town that I'm would be very happy to visit again
Pretty chuffed to be able to travel south on the Inside Track - enjoyed the varied scenery and wildlife - pity about the rugged corrugations at the southern end!

Container was open and contents spread around, needs new pen or pencil, hopefully back in place now, tftc
We made it up the Birdsville Track with minimal trouble and then I broke the van in the Birdsville Caravan Park. D’oh!
After a few false starts I got it fixed and then Janet and I went for a drive around. Not a lot has changed since our last visit.
But it is a special place. Next time we will do the Simpson again.
TFTC yet again GPS

We started to walk to this one but once we got well past the police station and near the outer limits of the town I realised that to get to this one I would either have to take a short cut across the airfield by jumping a couple of fences, and probably get the local constabulary all hot and bothered, or go back, get the car and drive to it which is what we ended up doing.

Bye bye Birdsville from us tomorrow as we continue on our fantastic journey thanks we are from WA
Found in the company of Freddo, e.gregory1, Team Waldron, occasional cacher out of retirement SteadyOn and muggle friend Tony during an awesome trip to the Simpson Desert, staying at Coober Pedy, then camping out at Dalhousie Springs, three nights in the Simpson Desert, Birdsville, Clayton Bore and Aroona Valley. Thanks for the cache Gordon Patrick Samuel!
An interesting title. Is it Bye Bye becaus one can view the airport or Bye Bye because of the nearby cemetery. Either way we enjoyed following the road on our mountain bikes and discovering the small cemetery at the end of the road. We walked around for quite a while first finding the newer graves then venturing up the back and finding the pioneers. We paid our respects at the most recent grave, that of Robert “Dusty” Miller, founder for the now closed Birdsville Backery. He passed on December 11, 2018 at only 70 years of age. Hidden away in a little visited corner we also found the grave of Deon Brook who was tragically killed at just 20 years of age in a helicopter crash. We had visited Deons Lookout on our way to Birdsville, it is very impressive, this young guy must have been very well respected in town.
Thanks for this very interesting remote cache.

Didn't quite leave from this side of town, but after finding this cache, visiting the bakery and stopping at the pub, it was bye bye for us out the other side of town. TFTC.
Cheers monkeyed the Birdsville track and headed into town for some phone /cache service!!! Few beers at the pub and a cache! Perfect! Tftc
We are on the homeward leg of the annual sun chasing trip. Grabbed the caches around Birdsville before heading down the track. TFTC.

So strange to be out of the desert and back in civilisation! But also nice to be grabbing some caches.
Traveling on a Central Australia adventure with the awesome K8tybee. On the hunt for as many australian counties as we can get! (And we made it across the Simpson Desert this time - yay!!). Thanks to everyone who keeps these awesome caches maintained. Such a brilliant trip. Tftc

Found by edmil on 1/9/17 - solo as Maddie was back in Melbourne. I was up for the races. Had been in the vicinity earlier in the morning but hadn't checked for caches so it meant another trek out. Thanks for the cache log signed but no swap made
