Unfortunately the road is closed around 800m or so from this cache. We got there and it was too hot and the cache level far too low to bother after travelling such a long way to get near this cache, so we didnt exert ourselves and went for a kayak instead.

Found some remnants of a cache in a tree nearby, to our surprise there was a large number of muggles camped very near to the cache. Did not retrieve as was unable to do so without being caught. They were already unhappy with my presence near the midden. A snap of me with the Muggles in the background will hopefully be evidence enough of my being there .

Day trip out to Coongie Lake whilst visiting Innamincka. The road was half graded but the rest was pretty rough going. Had to hunt around before finding the cache - the GPS was struggling to pinpoint GZ. Eventually had in hand & logged.

13-Jul-18
One of the highlights of our trip out west. Time here was much shorter than what we would have liked, but we managed to fit in a sunrise over the lake and a paddle to the adjacent shoreline and dune walk. Somehow, we paddled right past the cache, but drove back around to it after packing up in the morning. Took surprisingly long to find as it was not where we had expected, instead, the container was at the base of the tree. The lake was looking very healthy after a recent filling as was coopers creek. TFTC!!!!!

Over the past week we explored the Innamincka Regional Reserve area and looking at the Burke and Wills history of the area and down to Cameron Corner and then returned to Birdsville.

We camped here the night and enjoyed the sun setting over the lake, wow very memorable!! An easy find at GZ.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Quick find while staying the night at the camp in the other side of the lake. Tftc

We camped at Coongie Lakes and loved it here. Such a special spot.
This cache was a real bonus! Good coords made this a quick find. Cache is in great condition.
Thanks so much Team Wombat for placing this cache and adding to our enjoyment of Coongie Lakes.

Needle kept pointing to the same place but no amount of climbing revealed the prize.

Even though we have been coming through the innamincka area for the past 30 years, we haven't ever ventured out to the lakes, so when DazzPete suggested it on our current adventure, we jumped at the idea.
We rolled into the area about lunch time and drove around looking for a good camp spot that would be out of the wind, and was amazed at the scope of it all as we didn't know what to expect. So during all this driving around, we pulled in here and did a quick find and sign in the log book, we even thought this would be a good spot for a camp...if the wind was going the other way....the upside is we spotted a great spot on the other side of the bay from here, so it was big smiles all round.
Thanks team wombat for the cache in a cool spot.

Wow! Not that you really need any extra incentive to coe out here but this cahe provided it none the less. Well worht the effort in coming out here and spending the night. (as evidenced by the number of people visiting)

Easy find while weroamin chatted with some muggle sighteeers. We had a good day exploring around the lake and having a picnic as well. Saw many Brolgas, a really nice red dingo on the flats in front of the lake, lots of pink-eared ducks and plenty of crows! there appear to be many rabbits living in the dunes surrounding the lake as well. TFTC.

Thanks for helping us explore the track around the Lake. We were the only people out here to watch the wildlife for two days.

Found on an Outback trip with X&S and RONG.
I liked the sand driving to get to the cache. Afterwards we spent a lazy afternoon beside the lake having lunch.
Thanks.

Bit late with this log due to travelling and lack of internet access. We were out for a visit to this wonderful area with friends from our caravan owners club gathering in Innamincka. Over a couple of visits, first by us then by friends next day, some remedial action was undertaken. We first found the cache at 12.45 pm. A big hole had been nibbled through! A new container, similar to the old one but smaller, has been left with the trinkets/swaps inside. A sistema, more robust but small, has been left underneath with the logbook and a stash note. It provided a lot of fun and a learning experience for the newbies! Thank you Team Wombat for placing the cache there, we feel priviledged to visit such a special place in the outback.

i have a rather large feeling that this cache could have been washed away since 2009, so when i am out here in june this year, i shall bring a back up container, just in case.

Really enjoyed finding this cache. The lakes are simply stunning. TFTC

Was looking through some old T.B. finds, and find locations. Noticed that I had missed logging the find of this cahce. One of my favourite places on the planet.

I remember this find well as when I went to retrieve the cache, some wild life exited the same hole. The rest of the geocrew fell about laughing their heads off.

TFTC.

A truly amazing location. There is a sea in the middle of Australia just like the old explorers were trying to find. The lake was lovely on a winters afternoon. We motored around and visited many great scenes. Thanks guys.

Few words can describe this place. Brutal tranquility, perhaps? Such a contradiction of beautiful geographical extremes, and a great place for a cache.

Found @ 1525.

Found with ggkof whilst on our great Simpson Desert adventure. The Coongie Lakes area is amazing, so many birds and animals around. Saw plenty of large brown hawk/kite birds around and some rabbits. TNLN.

Found @ 15:25 with davroy. On arriving at the lakes the camp area along the west side was very busy but luckily for us the area on the point near the cache was empty. Choose a camp site and collected the cache. Beatiful spot and I wished I'd had my canoe with me and more time to spend here. Saw a great sunset and sunrise the following morning was just as good. TFTC TNLNSL

10-Jul-08
We stayed at the campground outside the reserve so we could have a fire. (Geocaching isn't the only thing people get obsessed about). I would rather have stayed at the lake and gone without the fire.

We were restricted to a quick drive around the lake and we eventually came across the cache.

Didn't take long to find it but getting it out was a bit more difficult.

Next time we'll stay out at the lake for a few days and have a decent look around.

25-Aug-07

A gem. After crossing the Simpson and seeing little water, the place was literally an oasis in the true sense of the word. Bird life abounded, as did plenty of nice sandy camp sites on the beach – yet, that right, on the beach. Unbelievable. All the good things you hear about this place are true. Surprised TeamAstro was first to log this baby in 12 months. Introduced some other Kimberley Camper owners to geocaching – we hope the take it up.
Clear skies and thanks wombats, TeamAstro [^]

Found at 3.15pm
The lake was full, the Cooper was running and waterbirds were everywhere.
A magnificent location amongst the rolling red sand dunes.
The cache is in good condition and an easy find,
We spent 2 nights, camped by the lake, enjoying the serenity.
The only downside were the harsh corrugations for at least 60kms on the way out to GZ - everything was shaking itself to pieces!!!!!
We took 3 hrs to travel the 106kms from Innamincka!!!
Top cache!!!

Thanks

41st for my outback adventure. My most favorite spot in the outback. The lake system has so much room to camp in away from others. The water was quite low, but I saw more dingos and other animals on this trip.

We have travelled a long way to see this lake with water and it is well worth the time and effort. The drive in took us about 2.5 hours but we did not have the Desert Parks pass required to camp. But as with every other day we kept on the move to keep out of the flies that are enough to drive you insane.

We also took some pictures for GeoScavenger.

We took a Koala and left a keychain light and a WA Blue Wren magnet.

Any adventurous people heading for this cache please contact me BEFORE you go. I need someone to collect information at the cache as part of a contest.

Thank you, from BC, CANADA!

Mission accomplished - and well worth the trip. Amazing to have all this water in the middle of dry country - Sturt could have used his boat after all.
Left Elephant and took Stunt Wheel.
Now off to look at the bird life - lots of pelicans, little black ducks and a couple of brolgas.
Thanks for giving us the incentive for a great trip.

After seeing this a virgin for so long, I figured a special trip from Adelaide was in order. So I rounded up the troops (Miray and 2KsAway) and off we set up the Strezlecki on a special virgin busting mission. Effectively the Travelling 5 as that's how many we had in our group.

Weather would not defeat us, nor would the temptations of the nearby Innamincka Hotel (very nice counter meals). In fact we had an awesome trip, the desert was alive with flowers after recent rains, the weather was generally good.

I got to claim the honors having read the clue beforehand. Took the union badge and left a watch/compass/keyring combo from Orthogon Systems (look it up!). Then proceeded to tour around the lake, what a great spot - that in fact I had always wanted to visit in any case.

Thanks team wombat for a great excuse to get up here. Saw a variety of birds, camped at Kudrimitchie and enjoyed the whole week away.

03-Aug-05
Was definately worth the drive from Adelaide to grab this cache. Found along with Richary and Miray we explored the local area for some bird watching and taking in the scenery around us. Thanks for the drive and the cache was well worth it.

Cheers!
