I've tried to get this a number of times over the years when in Auckland, DNF every time while other people had no trouble with the thing. Some kind of mental block... Any chance of persuading the owner to reinstate it?

21-Nov-10
Three consecutive DNFs

I'll take a look and see what the story is.

TFTC, only problem was, we were out with the biggest Welsh kid who thought he was Bear Grylls (Man vs Wild) and had just watched the one where he was in an area of swamp. Nothing like re-enacting the swamp man in action. The car will never be the same again.

What a mission Cool! The other half went missing in action Surprised but then I received instructions via txt so I headed off (with the old dog being carried Red Face as usual) and we too soon dissappeared into the bog of eternal prickles and biddy bids Twisted. If our friends could see us now Surprised I sometimes think we are being set up to star on Candid Camera Red Face. Thanks for another exciting night out on the trail, we are now spending the rest of the night trying to get the prickles and sticks out of the dogs fur and our socks Sad. T4TC

A nice little stroll at the end of my first day caching - didn't sign log as wasn't registered yet. Used to be my stomping ground as a child - great to see Little Shoal again.

1 Jan 2009 - revisited with group of interested potential cachers - signed log this time. Blackberry and cutty grass have grown considerably - shoes are a must!

27-May-08
Wow, first find of this cache for the year! Took a wrong turn initally to end up on an island, and after some map reading, we were able to acces the cache location from above.

Spent some time with another Queenslander finding this cache...only after reading the previous logs, we narrowed down the area and enventually found the prize.

Thanks for the challenge.

12-Jan-08
Interesting path location - managed to get to coords and find the additional hint, but dense vegitation prevented successful cache find. [:-(]
A more specific clue as to where precisely to look would have been welcome.

Nice fine day for a walk and a rather pleasant spot. Found track no problem and cache located.
No swaps, TFTC.

10-Jun-07
Got to GZ with only one wrong turn in an interesting location, to be confronted by one of my least favoured plants. Fortunately, poking with a stick eventually delivered a 'boink' and the cache was mine. ±0, cheers!

Cycled down here with Kev, Ron's friend. Nice evening mission, but blimey- took us ages to find! First we searched the shore and even took our shoes off to squelch through the mud on the beach (despite the stentch of sewerage!!). Then went to the bowling club, through Lee-Roys bush and back again with the compass bearings going the wrong way! Eventually found the 'track in the middle of it all'. Certainly not a good idea to seek this cache in the dark.
In- Spiderman keyring. Out- Fish magnet (which Kev has taken to put in a cache in Hokitika).

25-Mar-07
found at about 15.00hrs finally, this time in the day time so i could see, dont reccomend caching at night with the light of the cellphone! made a couple of swaps, cache in good condition & full.

06-Jan-07
We walked right past where we were ment to be first of all. But back tracked and found the right track. It looked a bit overgrown, but turned out to be not so bad.
Found easily after trying to negotiate footing.
TNLN SL Big Grin Thanks for the cache.

13-Nov-06
Little bit short of time for this one so didn't really have a solid search, just wandered round with the GPS for a bit and went home.

11-Nov-06
Great last leg through the swamp! + Lizard. Neat cache, ty.

07-Oct-06
There is a public health warning sign at the bridge nearest the car park, warning of a "polution incident" in the area.
Still, I didn't see the need to skip a cache for sch a trivial concern.
TNLNSL - TFTC.

17-Sep-06

12-Sep-06

20-Aug-06
Hi found this last sunday

24-Jul-06
Fourth of seventeen finds on my second day in Auckland, in company with Navigull. Having been to Big Shoal Bay earlier, I found myself at it's little sibling. Strangely, I checked two smaller, less likely spots and ignored the obvious one. Navigull pointed out the errors, and I had the cache in hand at 1350. My thanks to RotLA for the cache.

IN: Mondo figure (First World War 1915)
OUT: Bouncy ball

25-Jun-06
This is a lovely spot which we had never visited before. Nice playground for the kids nearby. Found fairly easily but had to empty out abount a cm of water from the bottom of the container. Managed to dry most of the goodies out.
- Toy soldier
+ Funky Chicken TB

25-Jun-06
When I saw where the GPS was indicating I should go, I was somewhat concerned, but decided there must be a way. Fortunately it didn't take too long for the the path to become apparent. Fairly quick find, but I couldn't fit the log back in, so I picked up the Funky Chicken TB

22-May-06
Harder to find the approach.
Intersting area indeed.

30-Apr-06
With the help of a new buddy to geocaching, this was an interesting find. I quickly became fodder for those mozzies. An interesting little bay, and a lovely walkway. In - butterfly bracelet, Out - nil. Thanks

12-Apr-06
Easy find TNLNSL
Thanks.

02-Mar-06
Unsuccessful again, bugger it! Half an hour of scrabbling around, apparently within a metre of GZ, produced more or less nothing. Except an old, faded calling-card from Just Floundering - tantalising proof there's a cache somewhere close by...

24-Feb-06
Finally sorted this out. I decided to repair the hole in the container and keep the slightly deformed look from the fire.

All should be dry and well. We also added a few more goodies. Happy caching.

07-Feb-06
This cache has had a(n un)fairly hard life. Will replace container and dry or replace log book. Stay tuned.

It IS pretty cool to see how much regrowth there has been after the fire though.

06-Feb-06
The aerial view set me right. There has been a lot of plant growth in that area lately, which explains why I didn't see the path the first time.

Note to other travellers - watch your step - there are several holes and unexpected drops covered by overgrown grass near the beginning of the path.

Found the cache at 12:05 in the obvious spot, but despite surviving a trial by fire, it was none too healthy - about 100ml of water poured out when I opened it, and the log book was completely sodden and unusable. A new log book is really needed as I don't think a quick dry in the sun would help this one much.

05-Feb-06
Spent quite some time following paths that initially looked hopeful but ended up in entirely the wrong places. Haven't managed to locate the secret path that others have mentioned, but the aerial maps from north shore city council's website (better than google earth's data) have given me some ideas for tomorrow.

Will be back....

28-Jan-06
Unfortunately we wasted well over an hour trying to hunt out this cache - very disappointing. We were sure that we were in the right place but alas, no joy. Found the bowling club, the track but no cache.

23-Jan-06
Found GZ OK - love the location - but a hunt around the area produced nothing except a series of minor scratches. Eventually ran out of time and had to go to work.

14-Jan-06
Great spot. Made you think about how to get there. Glad it survived the fire. The bay was a trip back in time for one of us who used to live nearby and spent his boyhood trying to raft the bay on old mattresses! Oh the spirit of youth.
