Logs
Called in after catching some nice whiting on the point. Only 1 log in 18 months, all good at GZ, getting a bit overgrown and history will say another bushfire soon. The cache is 20 years old later this month and it has seen two burnouts through the area. updated the hint. still 350mt down the beach from the "no Vehicle" sign. A red basket added at GZ for ease of finding. Cache all good I will return next year for trip 36 to K'gari
Found after visiting the lighthouse. GZ has grown since previous images in the gallery. Sure is nice up here. I’ve wanted to visit this area of Fraser Island for a while now. It’s a good run for the geo-van. Now it’s time to get to camp, just 6km away. Thanks for the cache.
Cheers

A nice easy find once the marker was found! Worth the walk up. Cache was guarded by a rather large huntsman who I hope has returned to his home (after scaring me!).
Tftc!! Found with Jess.

I had my eye on the is cache the moment we knew we were going to Fraser for the time between chrissy and new year. I wasn’t going home without another visit to the sandy cape.
What a mission. The tides mean we had to get up and back on one tide early in the morning. 1 muggle and Billy and I decided to make the extra walk to this cache.
Muggle spotted the marker. Cache was guarded by one of the biggest spiders I have ever seen.
The cache is dry and well.
what a great cache to mark the final day of 2022. 15 months since the last finder !!!
Thanks for the cache. ️ found with Billy91

All good, I also checked in February, a new marker visible from the beach. All we need is some visitors, now 14 months since a find.
Perhaps never before have I been to a place that felt so remote and so idyllic as here. I was on K'gari for 11 days with Ocean Crusaders, coordinating two weekend community beach clean-ups at Eurong and camping the week at Waddy Point. The joy of such a long trip, is I got to visit the entire eastern side of the Island on foot. So while there was tonnes of rubbish I picked up, and reasonably sore feet, it did lend itself to a bit of geocaching.
Yesterday we drove up from Eurong and set-up camp at Waddy Point, which was most comfortable, all things considered. It's well known the farther north one travels on this beach, the nastier the going gets. Ngkala Rocks is the outstanding feature, and every single time we traversed it, in either direction, it took ages for traffic to clear. And it was always a bit nervous getting our vehicles over in one go as well.
Also today is windy. Blowing hard from the south-east, meaning the beach isn't the greatest place to be. But we drive north, aiming for the farthest point; Sandy Cape Lighthouse. It blew my mind that we were at a latitude similar to Bundaberg, though sticking out miles and miles into the sea. As we rounded the tip, we came into the wind shadow of the island and the sea to the north-west was unbelievably flat.
We would continue on as the tide dropped and we could make progress. But this allowed tim to enjoy this postcard-esque location. The water flat and clear enough, that all manner of sea creatures could be spotted. This was definitely a relaxed, casual part of the trip. By the time we arrived at the carpark, as far from Hook Point as one can drive, lunch was upon us. I munched quickly, knowing this mega-old geocache was just a 400m jog up the beach.
Given the fivedays I've already been on the island, this is the first geocache for my trip. I set off at a trot - the rest of the crew know what's up with my dashing off randomly (but only where it won't hold us up). I got to the location quickly and was quickly blown away with how devastating the recent bushfires have been, and still are here. The damage is yet to recover. I wasn't sure about the presence of the geocache.
But, I needn't have worried. We got a CO here who has their finger on the pulse. I made my way up the dune and literally the only feature around was the geocache. Simple stuff really. It's 12:50 and I've just ticked off the third oldest geocache left (for me) within about 250 kilometres from home. And this is just a most magnificent place to be, and one that I feel privileged to have visited. Now, back to the car, up to the lighthouse, and on with the other half of this massive trip. Thanks for this geocache, and keeping it going so long, sid knee

I was wondering what a turtle egg nursery was. Now I know. Easy to find cache. Thanks for placing this cache in such a great part of the world.
Great spot to explore. We were the only people walking south of the lighthouse. TFTC
Back again and was concerned after the bushfires. Fires had been right to the water and after the climb up the sandhill found a few remnants of the tyre not much else survived but the one thing that has made it unscathed the cache, all good in the ammo box even the green bucket only slightly warped by the heat. relocated slightly but easy to spot.
Called in on our annual November visit. All good in "Swellers" ammo box, might be needed as some serious bushfires all over the Island. Very dry and plenty of scrub to burn if it comes here. Cache all good and very lonely only 1 visit in the last year. I am planning on coming in February, May and as usual November next year so will call in as this is the best part of the Island.
Cache is fine and dandy and in an amazing location Perfect weather and a great time had by all! Thanks very much
15 years since first placed and all good, a special thanks to ''swellerfungus'' for the replacement container. unfortunately for our visit today lots of weed so back down to Waddy for some fishing. as usual we will return November next year, a lonely spot for a cache only 2 visits this year.
Found this one years ago with my hand held gps but have to log again with the app
Staying at Happy Valley with a big crew of bushwalkers, had to do a day trip up for all those that had not been here before, a perfect day and all loved the area. I sent a few of them down the beach with the hint and they found it as described. All good and back in November
Great day with the family up here while on holidays, reminiscing with my kids all the fun times we had as kids. Plenty of memories of this place. But back when we were kids, the fish were more plentiful and the people were few. Now it's the other way around. Thanks for the cache. TNLN.
14 years to the day and still active, the eroded bank at GZ not too bad, years ago it was a stroll off the beach.
all good mainly due to Swellerfungus. a very durable container and the regrowth since the latest bushfire coming back quickly.
all good, as usual back again next year for trip 27 to K'Garri

Found at 12:12 PM GAFF1in the company of nana nel and wazza9..
After replacing Sandy Cape Escape, we walked up the beach - but I think we could have driven as it wasn't turtle season. Up a steep bank and the cache was surprising found still there. I say surprisingly, because there was some toilet paper nearby and the lid of the amo can was unclipped!
We have been wanting to do this cache for many years. We think we were on the island just before it was originally placed and then in 2009 we couldn't get around ngkala rocks - but this time we were determined to get up here and find this hard to get to cache. We saw a whale slowly cruising past on our way back.
Thanks sid knee.

A nice walk along the beach, quick find, signed log and replaced. Thanks to sid knee.
TFTC,
Today in the company of Nana nel and pprass was attempt number 2 to try for Sandy Cape. We were able to pass the notorious Ngkala rocks without many problems when all the correct settings were applied to the computerized machine.
We enjoyed the drive to within 300M of the cache. After completing the cache at the Lighthouse, it was time to find this one.
We left our departure a bit late and had a couple of dangerous sections due to the rising tide.
Visited trackables.

Over on the island with my bike and decided I should make an attempt to get this while here. Decided to ride up on high tide as I like the extra challenge. Got north of ngkala rocks and hard a pretty epic crash doing about 70kph. Dusted myself off checked for breakages on myself and my bike. Nope all seems good. Got up to the end of vehicle sign and parked up.
This is where I made my second mistake and decided to walk it still in mx boots which I will not recommend. For the spare tyre left and started clambering. After a bit of circle work once at GZ cache was located and signed.
Thankfully after chatting with some lads fishing the tide had started running back out and was a nice run back on hard sand as I was starting to hurt from the earlier cartwheel.
Tftc worth the trek.

The best spot on the Island. We camp at Waddy these days for 2 weeks each year. But make it up here at least 5 times. turtles in abundance and nests every where.
cache all good, thanks to SWELLA, My spare tyre now more obvious from the beach and the scramble up the sand hill not too bad.
will return next year a week later

Saw the tyre from the beach and after a scrabble up the small dune and a quick hunt around we found the well placed cache. TFTC
I am happy to report this cache is alive and well. Some erosion has added a little to the fun of getting to the cache, however if you find the tyre you are 10 metres from the cache. Still under the green bucket.
I ended up finding it slightly further away than it used to be, and has been returned to its original coordinates, and is still in the same ammo can.

Oh no, I can't find it
I found the spare tyre but no green bucket anywhere to be seen...
the erosion was almost up to the spare tyre and the gps kept flipping around... there was a lot of trees down & I hunted high & low for a while.
I found the other cache up near the lighthouse ok & same thing there from the recent weather, lots of trees down...

Taking the new (4WD) girl Suzee` Prime for an offroad spin - her first time off tar ... and here we are on Fraser! As you do. With the Mrs, Team Herbz, Sweet_bee and Fangsoki along we camped at Waddy Point and excursioned from there each day. Day Three was North, and after navigating (with a little delay) the Ngkala Rocks track (we know the tricks now) we were rewarded with a low-tide journey up the beach that was flat and hard and basically empty of anyone else. Muchos enjoyas.
At the end of the driving we enjoyed a walk to the Lighthouse and then along the other track ... and then down the beach to this spot. The clues helped us locate the container, and noting that the 'logbook' was under-represented I dropped a fresh one in for future finders. Otherwise perfectly fine.
Thanks for placing this cache, sid knee. Found in good condition.

Pprime, Sweet_bee, Team Herbz, and I had been at the nearby lighthouse and we decided to trot down the beach to this one.
One is not able to drive up to this cache (legally) anymore apparently - so we did the 300m or so dash to get to it. Pprime was the first to make his way up onto the dune. I made a chook's breakfast of it - but I eventually got up as well. We found the cache and signed the log.
A fantastic place for a cache. I had never been up this far. TFTC sid knee

We took some time to locate this one. We were circling around for quite a while. As we widened our search area Mr. Herbz suddenly called out, "Got it!" Our GPSr had us closer to the beach than we needed to be. TFTC.
I visited this cache location back on 7/4/16 but could not locate the cache container on that occasion. I was fortunate to find myself up this way today but conditions had certainly changed. What had been a pristine beach, that many families were enjoying with swimming and picnicking, today it was a stinking mess covered with a thick layer of foul smelling seaweed that had hardened a made the beach a rutted nightmare. The weed stretched out about 10m from shore that made swimming impossible. Not surprisingly there was no one enjoying themselves on the beach today. After a walk up to the light house and to the WW2 bunkers, I decided to have another crack at this cache. No problems locating it today but I had forgotten to bring a pen on the walk (I had intended to stop back at the car first), so a handy sliver of charcoal stood in for a writing implement today. TFTC
Found in good condition, a tough drive as there has been no rain and sand extra soft. Had to wait while others were pulled out at the rocks, but we made it through in one go. Had a walk up, met the lighthouse volunteer, assisted with vacuum repairs for her. doing many good deeds while on the island, building up lots of good karma. TFTF
Wow this one I placed 11 years ago. all good and still my favourite spot on the Island after 23 trips. will be back again in August and November for another check up.
Showing some friends of a friend Fraser Island and knocking off some geocaches while I am on holidays, not here taking a tour.
The log book was moist with this one!

Grabbed this one quickly as the tide had us running. Just made it out otherwise we would have had to wait a few hours for the tide to recede. Great spot to camp for a few days if you had the time.
Amasing place!!! Found it minutes after gorgeous winter sunset! TFTC!

The Knees on trip 22 to the island called in and all good after the fire and thanks to Swell for replacing.
Quick easy find, just a short walk down the beach from the "end of the road". the cache could do with some maintenance. but in essence it is still there.
Thanks, another great cache on the island! What makes it even better is that few will find it (due to remote location)
A lovely day for a walk along the beach! Just before placing the container back a little crab crowled out of the hiding spot! TFTC
Found on a two day fishing adventure to Fraser Island. Mrs happy harry found the cache while the boys were fishing. TFTC.
Found without problem today, except that what I found was not signable! Unfortunately the fires have ravaged another Sid Knee special. I have replaced the container on his behalf in this beautiful spot. I have attached a photo of what I found for your viewing pleasure! Note the burnt plastic bucket around the cache and the spirax ring from the old log book!

The Knee's love this area and have camped nearby for many years. These days we stay at Waddy but always get up here a few times each trip. Came up 4 times this year but waited till the last to check on the cache, due to severe erosion of the beach I lost my bearings didn't have the GPS and finding the right bit of sand was too time consuming so will leave it for next year.
Huge spider on cache ! TFTc all in good condition. Was unsure where the rusty gate was unless that was the lighthouse entrance.
A great experience making our way to the Gz for this one, a really awesome trip up to north end with great views all the way. A bit of a scramble to the GZ at the moment but all good just the same. Thanks for the cache sid knee
Found it with NurseCait on a day trip to the top of the island. Great drive and a lovely spot.
Wouldn't call myself (or even ourselves) experienced 4WDers but had no trouble getting here from our Ocean Beach camp site. Maybe it was just the trusty old LandRover that made it so easy.....
Great spot, and would have come even without the cache!

As usual not many visitors in the last year, spent 4 days nearby on our 20th trip to the Island, cache in great shape and all good, I will be back early November next year.
Removed the TB that was not logged properly and after 7 months keen to be moved on.

No service and didn't download before leaving campsite Gabala Poyungan Rocks won't do that again great place for your cache
this is one of the best spots i ve seen am i still in OZ awsome left a TB but made a mistake and logged it to sandy cape escape sorry
Well went to the graves and GPS said we were getting further away. Found it eventually - interesting turtle experiment nearby. Made a couple of swaps - you might catch a flathead on one of them. Happy New Year and TFTC Sid Knee.
My first cache on Fraser.
This place is just magic, we spent the whole day at the cape swimming, walking and relaxing by the beach.
After eating lunch we walked the short walk to cache which was found easily. Signed the log and replaced the cache back in it's spot. It is in great condition. We stopped off to have a look at the turtle egg nursey (or big net thing that keeps the dingos from eating the eggs) just one of the things to see on Fraser.

sid came this way on another of his visits to the island, camping area on the point a little degraded due to erosion but fishing and cache all ok.
After getting soaked going to the lighthouse there was no way we were going to leave this cache. After a bit of a search when Griffo disturbed a snake he came up with the cache nearby and found a large spider protecting the cache. After signing the log we checked out the turtle hatchery on the way back to our vehicles. The weather didn't improve this day but it was a good drive. TFTC
After completing the nearby lighthouse cache we walked back down the steep track to the beach. Turning left we walked past the Loggerhead turtle egg nursery, used to protect the eggs from the Dingoes, then walked the remaining 200m to the cache. We searched for quite a while and in the process I moved a large piece of fallen bark only to see a small snake sleeping beneath. He quickly awoke and moved into a defensive position so I left him alone. We soon found the cache, and in good condition considering the backburn a few months earlier. Noticed a large Huntsman spider living in the large outer covering. Let him be as well. Signed th log and returned to the car dripping wet from the persistent rain. Thanks for an enjoyable cache.
Sadly, time was against me to find this one. After spending a bit of time visiting points of interest on our way up to the cape and also at the nearby cache and lighthouse, It was getting late in the day and with the tide in my favour and a car full of impatient family, I decided to pass on this cache.
Not sure when I will next get the opportunity to come this way, but it is certainly worth the journey. Quite a drive though - it took us 1.5 hours to get back to our camp at Dundubara and that was in ideal conditions without stopping!

2 years since the last visit and that happened to be our last maintanance call. Due to recent severe erosion on the North Ngkalla rocks no access available at this time. Had to spend 11 days camped at Waddy but great weather and nice whiting caught particularly by Mrs Knee.
A new bypass track has been put in around the South Ngkalla rocks, a lot steeper and softer sand making this even more difficult to access. But those that venture will be well rewarded. Contact me for any info on getting there.

as northerlies were forcast for at least a week we camped at waddy but made 4 trips up here in our 10 days on the island on 3 of them the only vehicle over the ngkala rocks each day. a magnificant isolated spot, some nice whiting in front of the deserted camping area was a bonus and the cruising nesting turtles another highlight.

Found on the event weekend. A beautiful side of the island. We will be back.
The drive to the cape was much easier than anticipated on this occasion, but don't be lulled into a false sense of security as it is a remote area which changes constantly and requires care to be taken. It is a wonderful area to experience and well worth the trip. TFTC Sid Knee and giving as an excuse for making the trip.[^]

I drove the geomobile past one of the ends of the earth to get to this cache [:o]
After cruising for so many k's northbound it was amazing to see how suddenly the island just stopped
I could imagine someone just driving off the end and into the ocean here
After successfully making the sharp left turn, I found a stark contrast to the ocean beach. A world of peace and tranquility. Gone was the pounding surf. Instead a beach with gently lapping waves backed with tree covered hills greeted me
Having found the cache, I just had to take the walk to the lighthouse. Great exercise for some interesting scenery and history [^]
The drive back south was equally amazing as the heavens opened with torrential rain. Driving along the ocean beach it was impossible to tell where the sand ended and the surf began. An interesting experience [:o]

Made a special trip up the to the Cape especially for this one, a good low tide made the trip easy, I see Asho was only here a day earlier it would have been nice to have met up. TNLN Thanks Sid
Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1115.Great spot, easy drive today TNLN Tnx sid knee. From Wagga Wagga NSW
On the 2nd day of our Fraser Island week of fun & 4wd'ing with the gophers, Mr gopher and I decided to head up to the lighthouse and brave the tricky trek there.
We left at mid-tide and had no trouble doing the trip from Waddy camp in 1 hour. In fact the inland bypass around the rocks was much easier than we expected and had heard about. The big 'cruiser breezed along the big sandy highway doing up to 70kph in 5th gear and it just loved it.
An easy walk and find followed by a big more energetic walk up to the lighthouse. We also signed the visitors book up there (using my caching name to confuse any future visitors) took in the views and chatted with the volunteer environment ranger.
Took nothing and left a clip. Then we returned south at low tide, an easy run.
Thanks sid knee for another great sight that we would not have seen if not for your cache,
Roostaman.

Found this one today before headding back to the barge. We took a wrong turn at the town on the fist cutting you need to go through and instead of turning left we went straight and ended up on the west side of the island. It was a good drive though. Now it was a dash to get back to camp and then get to the barge. We made it..... Thanks for the cache.
Magic spot. Went for a walk up the big hill first to admire the great views then came back down to find the cache. Found it easily. All in good condition. TNLN
Found 10:15hrs. First one on FI. Good drive up the beach after the rain. Tide on its way out. Beautiful spot. A couple of fishing boats off the beach. Took wrench, left tape measure. TFTC. SL

What a nice place!! Gonna have to camp a coupla nights up this way next time I'm on Fraser.
Watch the tides - keep to low and you'll be fine. Can be a bit rough (or fun!) on the bypass around the South Ngkala rocks.

Found this one about 2mins after the other cachers with us had given up and gone back to the cars for lunch. we took a rather circular route to it but found it quickly once we paid proper attention to the GPS.

Found this with fellow geocacher "Scrub Turkey". Visited at the same time as two other parties on the same mission. Missed the first visit by about 10 seconds. Great location in a great part of the world.
sid and rod with the 4x4 club came to the island for the rubbish cleanup. we stayed at waddy point but with good tides made an afternoon run to the top. was going to drop of a TB but will set another cache down the island for it. this may stimulate some interest for this one. rod found the icecream cash but we have left it for the first ones here.
I've been meaning to plan a trip to this very spot for some time now. As soon as the baby (due in Feb 2005) is old enough to come camping we'll be there.
