Im in Melbourne for 2 nights on a stopover to Tasmania. I was heading down to Port Melbourne to visit my niece and was a little early so diverted to do this virtual. Quite fascinating plaques these! Information gathered and answers sent to the CO.

10 March 2024 11:35 TFTC Partic for placing this cache, number 14785 for me.I would like to show my respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, and their continuing connection to it. I wish to pay my respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.Adding photos, info to send through still.

Didn't realise these X plaques were a thing until this cache. Nice.

#14,855. This looks to be an interesting series highlighting features of inner city life from the past. Arrived at GZ and took a bit to spot the plaque and even harder to read it. The writing has become very obscure over the past 20 years from wear and tear on the bronze. I photographed it to help with the contrast but not sure it made it any easier to get the answers. Anyway sent them off to the CO by email. Thanks Partic for highlighting some of these less well known features of inner Melbourne.

02-Jun-24
A long walk and the cocktail bar put a sign over the memory so I didnt find it for a bit

24-May-24
Took a little bit to find but what a great memory! I had no idea these existed but am keen to find more

17-May-24
15:14I was stumped at first. Arrived at GZ and couldn't spot any plaques whatsoever.Turned out that the restaurant had put their sign right over it. I guess it provides a bit of stability in the windy conditions. I pulled it aside and then had a read of the plaque.I don't quite understand what's happening with the X. It's marked at the Bridge St roundabout close to Bay St. There are no law firms there. Also, I found out the address of the old Police station and lock-up and that is not where the X is marked. Anyway, I think I figured out the answers correctly still.I always take pictures for ECs and VCs, even if it's not a requirement; but now, when logging I realized that I didn't take a photo for this one.Answers sent 20.05.2024Kia ora! Paldies! Thanks for the cache, Partic!#10766

Catching up on logging virtual caches after visiting Melbourne for a few days for the Grand Prix. As most of my time was dedicated to being at Albert Park, there wasn't a whole lot of time for caching. So with the spare time I had before returning home, I decided to focus on grabbing a bunch of virtuals, including some out in the suburbs utilising a mixture of trams, trains and ubers. I had read previous logs before attending and expected that the restaurant would have their sign over the plaque and that again was the case which made it a little harder to read. Quite the busy intersection too. Answers sent. Thanks for the virtual cache

24-Mar-24
Visited it during 28-days geotrip to Australia, N.Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Am.Samoa, Fr.Polynesia with Marci, Ch. Sometimes we logged as "MT" or "Jonea" or "MTCh". Thanks for showing nice caches and places. MT-Jonea from Brno city in Czechia EU. FP

The plan was to attend the [Meet at the Rotunda](https://coord.info/GCAHGNE) and then clear the caches in the surrounding area. However, having spent ages looking for the nearby [Gateway to Australia](https://coord.info/GC9XQ8X) in the 35C heat, I pretty much lost any enthusiasm for the task. So, I just picked up one Trad before heading over to this one. Proved to be very frustrating, as (a) I'd broken my flip-flop, so it took a while to hobble over here, (b) part of the info wasn't available, but I wasn't online, so didn't have the benefit of the previous logs and spent ages looking before quitting, and (c) I then had to hobble all the way back to where I'd started, as that was the most convenient place to travel back to the CBD. Oh well, my jet lag management app told me that I had to get "bright light" this afternoon, so the wandering round wasn't entirely a waste of time... Greetings from the UK, TFT(V)C!

Greetings from Seattle! I am lucky enough to attend the Great Leap Forward Mega-Event in Adelaide with my fellow Lackey and best geo-buddy giacaches, and we hit the road to take the scenic route to get there. We'd been keeping our eyes peeled for Virtual Caches on this trip to help us with a challenge, and I was so glad when we ended up here before finding some tasty pizza and local beer and calling it a day. It was a bit tricky to find what was needed but here we are! Thanks so much for adding to the trip!

Greetings from Seattle! I'm down under for the first time with jtcoffee to attend the Great Leap Forward in Adelaide. While here, we're naturally trying to pack in as much "bonus" adventure as possible, including (but not limited to) the following: Log our find finds in the southern hemisphere Find Lane Cove, Australia's Oldest Experience Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Sydney Drive the Great Ocean Road Visit the Lord of the Rings filming locations in New Zealand Tackle a challenge cache requiring 31 Earthcaches, and 31 Virtuals in 31 days (GC32TBZ and GC32TC2) I think this is our 13th virtual of the trip... woohoo! Answers have been sent by jtcoffee for both of us. Thanks for keeping this in play and contributing to our amazing experience in Australia!

6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to preparing an 18-day project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the famous Mega. Thanks for the cache and the discovery of beautiful spots

This is a great idea making a series of virtual caches to highlight these memorial sites. We had to remove an advertising board the cafe had placed over the plaque, once uncovered the answers revealed themselves. Thanks for this concept and cache Partic

Parked the car nearby and walked to the GZ, even at 6am it is was busy here, got the answers and have sent them to the CO. Nice and quick, back in the hire car and to some more caches.

I always love Virtuals caches and with them being a bit rarer I try to seek them out whenever I can. However, with this one actually being so close to home, I think I got a bit complacent in finding it.Well the other day I noticed that I had gotten up to 97 Virtual finds and with the 100 milestone now within grasp, I decided to put a bit more effort into finally trying to complete this one.The area was fairly busy with muggles coming and going into the nearby establishment. When I arrived, it actually took me a bit to spot the memory marker, as the nearby business put an advertising sign on top of the marker. However, I was still able to gather the information. Such as shame to see them cover this maker, they probably didn't he know what they were covering.*Such a shame...*Anyways, I enjoyed reading up about the history here, amazing to be able to find another one of these **X marks the spot!** markers.A big thanks goes to [Partic](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=8fbeda24-8670-4f40-88d9-1a481e5e2631&wid=22a1d800-b39c-438c-87b9-313e3718e49c&ds=2) for another fun Virtual. In town today for a concert, so searched out a few caches afterwards.
The memory marker wasn't obvious at first, as the adjacent business had placed their footpath sign over it.
Once spotted, the necessary information was collected.

Find # 13011

Found with sharkiefan.

After a big day yesterday we headed out east again, from Werribee that is. (And I'm very grateful that sharkiefan let me drag her out and about 2 days in a row to help me tick off more LGAs)

Today I managed to tick off, (and this list is in order) Kingston, Frankston, Greater Dandenong, Glen Eira, Bayside, Maroondah and Port Phillip. Finslly completing all LGAs in greater Melbourne area.
Yep a big trip indeed, for both of us.

Last cache for the day/night.

The streets were a little busy so I walked up from the "Spread the love" cache. After gathering the info I headed back.
Interesting little piece of Melbourne's history.
Thanks for highlighting the area and information.

We were lucky to find a car spot right outside the location, then spent about 10 minutes walking around trying to find the plaque. Found it eventually, hidden by a local sign.

A fun and amusing Virtual. Thank you Partic.

After dropping one of my kids at work experience in South Melbourne, I went caching around the area until it was time to pick her up again. I had my middle daughter with me.

We stopped by here whilst looking for a place to grab a snack to eat. Unfortunately the establishment here was closed. Nice place though. We went over to the plaque and gathered all the relevant information and sent our answers to the CO.

Thank you for the cache here Partic

Well I am finally out of Whittlesea and on the road to Melbourne and surrounding counties. Checking to see what fun caches I can do and what LGA’s I am still needing to fill in. I have no set plans for the moment just whatever I see along the way. Well I guess I really want to finish of collecting those virtuals.

I just saw this Virtual and thought that looks fun, oh hang on there are a few of these ones getting around. This was fun and interesting, it did not take long to get the answers and a bit of a look around to understand what it was all about. Some good and fun history facts, thanks for bringing me here today.

Wandering about Port Melbourne which is filled with Cavoodles, coffee and caches, as it turns out!

Located the memory under an A frame for a local shop selling beverages, which is somewhat appropriate.

Thanks for the great virtual, i would never have noticed this little gem of history if you hadnt pointed it out. This highlights an absolute cracker of a memory of everyday life from a different time. Imagine doing that these days! Sometimes i despair that society has become far too serious.

11:54, 21 July, 2022. #533.

Another run of late logging of caches for me. Someone nags me about it, but that usually doesn't motivate me much. RGSBruce drove me to an appointment in Port Melbourne on this day, so we decided to find a cache or two in the area while we were here.

Answers for both of us sent by RGSBruce (who is much more diligent about writing his logs than I am) on 21 July 2022.

HerIndoorsOutdoors had an appointment in Port Melbourne today. As we very rarely get to visit here we decided to find a cache or two.

This was an interesting snippet of local history which neither of us would have ever found out about if not for your virtual.

The call went out who wanted to go caching tonight. Four of us answered the call. Sims_family was our chauffeur in the Ginga Ninja and Ausfox; and Donutholes completed the team.

The aim was to complete a few Adventure Labs and pick up any interesting or nearby caches in a trip that went from Williamstown to Mordialloc and back again.

We are suckers for a Virtual Cache and as we were nearby, we made the slight detour and picked up the required information.

When we were younger we often came to Bay St to buy fish n chips to eat while watching the bay.

Love this part of Melbourne.

Thank you for this Virtual cache Partic.

The minute a building is knocked down I found it hard to remember what was there. Port Melbourne has been nice for a while now - it’s worth preserving these memories of what came before. Thanks Partic

15-Apr-22
These artworks were cute. Had trouble finding this one - one wonders why when I finally spotted it. After that, I saw quite a few. Funny stories.

Anyway, it was so exhausting looking for this that I had to retire to the fish and chip shop up the road and buy some potato cakes to aid recovery. Took them down to the beach where I dog crapped in the water in front of me and the owner pretended not to see. I told her to clean it up but she abused me and yelled, “It’s Good Friday”. Wasn’t aware that Good Friday was a traditional day of dog crapping.

Today i had a mission to find 13 Virtuals in one day.

11 of 13.

I made short work of today's challenge by parking at the tennis centre and e-scootering my around the city before they all get banned for good. Damn nanny state. Ha.

Even scored a souvenir hiding in the bushes out the back.

I never knew these boxes existed. Thanks for showing me this one.

These Xs are very subtle; you almost need coordinates to find them. The text on this plaque is getting a bit hard to read, so do this virtual now!

An interesting glimpse in to the past here; I can’t say I’m all that surprised.

Thank you for this Virtual and series Partic.

Thank you Partic for such an interesting subject for a virtual Big GrinRazz.

PrezDough and I were out and about here grabbing a few caches and we came across this one.
We used to live not far from this virtual and I remember reading the history associated with the building.
So it was a nice trip returning to see the place again and also to get a cache.
I think the local male dogs also love the memory….

We have recently moved into the area of Port Melbourne and decided to spend NYE looking for some of the caches in the area. I remember attempting some of this series years ago; so was good to get back to it and see if we can tick off one more of them. This one was easily located and answers obtained. Thanks for bringing us this very interesting tidbit about local history.
