Found it with my sister! Amazing view but climb is a little hectic and look out for green ants! But totally worth it

Mr CNQ was on a day trip from Charters Towers and keen to finally get this older cache. Donned gaiters and followed the ridge up from the south. Quick find and cache in good condition. Breezy but fine up here today so took a few minutes sitting on a flat rock to admire the view. Thanks for the cache.

I had this cache for some time on my radar and today did the detour out here. Already the ride along gravel road was lots of fun with plenty of birds along the mud flats and a few sections with some water on the road. When I approached the hill I really hoped it wouldn’t be the much higher one nearby. Fortunately, my wishes were heated, but right when I pulled into a suitable parking next to the road it started to rain. Despite that I put on my gaiters and went through the rain and long grass up the hill. Instant find just at the top near an interesting cactus and the tree. Too bad I couldn’t stay longer to enjoy the views, but it was getting windier every second. Still a nice adventure and even better for such an oldy. Thanks!

It has been quite some time since I explored the general Burdekin region. Numerous years ago we stayed in town overnight, did a dive at the SS Yongala and enjoyed the little town a little more before continuing further. Since that time we usually only rushed through to leave as much bitumen behind us as possible with the aim of exploring locations down south. Also a few more wet visits at the Yongala followed, but all of those were made via liveaboars.
But not this time. This time I specifically took the time to enjoy the area. Well, and what better to do than searching for all these great new caches that have fairly recently been added to the map. Thank you very much stanwell that you have created this cache and showed me the area! Much appreciated.

In the area with Selva Girls today to pick up some caches and this was one of them. We'd stayed in Bowen overnight and as we headed north detoured out to this oldie, Great drive and nearing the location we found a great camping spot for a future visit. We parked and headed off up the hill which was a good walk after an hour of driving. Once at the top I enjoyed the views and once SG arrived I retrieved the cache. Log signed and then all returned as found.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for me and others to enjoy.

A FP from me for keeping this old one going.

Heading north, Konie and I detoured to this cache. We parked the geomobiles and headed up the hill, one much faster than the other. {:o} My caching buddy located the cache just as I arrived at GZ. While he signed the log, I admired the view out to the ocean. Stunning. Thanks for bringing us here and TFTC

Found on 14/9/2022; find number 1560.
I’d decided to head down from Townsville to chase cane fires for photography and to fill in time until it got dark, I decided to grab a cache or two.
The salt pans were pretty much dry, so not a lot of bird life around. Eventually I found a way to the top and along the ridge line to the cache. A little hunt and there it was. Log signed, views admired further, photos taken and back to the car.
But very sadly, the dunny is no longer funny! The caretaker told me someon had complained about it and they’d replaced it.
I still took a photo, then went and got some cane fire photos.

Thanks for the hunt and the cache stanwell.

What an entertaining diversion from boring highway driving. Took us over an hour to reach the hill. You see, Mrs lat&long is an avid birdwatcher. All that wetland beside the road had her clicking and exclaiming like a crazy person. We saw a total of 18 species on the way in and out. While I climbed to the cache she did more birdy stuff. It’s a surprisingly easy climb, and the cache was quickly located, the log signed and the view admired. We continued on to see the town sights and then it was back to the wetlands. She really did like your cache ‘Stanwell & Lifted’.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 98. Ayr Day 2. I went a bit South today, Home Hill and the Burdekin bridge and two coastal villages. There is some very interesting country and WWII features in the area to visit.

This area was a bit more remote and did not have the crowds of groper point. I chose a spot and headed up the hill. The view from the top was great and I then worked my way along to the cache. It is in fine condidtion. I am not sure why there is a maint flag on the cache, it can be removed.

Thanks for the cache stanwell

We are staying in Bowen for a few days, and although this was a bit of a drive north from there, we have decided to do a round trip and explore some of this area.
We passed people at the campsite and then found a place to take a walk to the top where we were rewarded with absolutely beautiful views.
It was then down to the business of searching for the Hide, which we found with no problem thanks to the good hint.
Log signed. Lovely to add our name to this old one.

The last full day of caching for us today as we collect some last caches in Townsville and then head South to Mackay for our flight home to Tassie in the early morning. we grabbed what we could but there is never enough time.

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

We drove out to this cache while coming south from Townsville. We struggled to find a track up but in the end we found a sort of track.
Cache was spotted by a Rat and the log book signed

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

We detoured to this cache as it was old and had a pretty good D/T too. We checked both sided for access then found a bit of a track on the southern side. It was a scramble to the top but nice views and cache. We got attacked by ants on the way back down, I won't miss them when we get home.
Thanks stanwell

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

This is day three of the drive from Brisbane to Townsville and today Fangsoki, Crew 153 and 1MinnieMoo and I are doing the Mackay to Townsville leg. Given I've never driven this far north, everything is new and exciting, even from the backseat where I spend the majority of the time. After our night in Mackay, and a reasonably early start, we're on the road and heading north. By Bowen, the weather had cleared from intermittent showers and was now being very 'North Queensland' - hot and humid.

It was just after 14:00 when the right turn was made onto the dirt road heading out to this little seaside town. And it was a long way out through the salt flats. An interesting place really, as there was all sorts of history preserved in the salt along the way. And it had me wandering way back in the day who decided to trek across this deserted landscape to establish a town.

Sadly the great "funny dunny" is no more and I couldn't find any photos of it. The mystery persists. But we're here for the geocache - or at least Crew 153 and I are. The other two had already found it. We were parked at the base of the little mountain and it was up to us to pick our way up.

Of all the places to put a geocache out here, I wholeheartedly approve with at the top of this little mountain. And while the sun was beaming and it was hot, we picked our way up the slope, going via areas of least grabby plants. We set no speed records, but that's fine.

We popped out at the top. And a lot hits the sense at once. First and most refreshingly, the sea breeze was powering up the slope and very cooling on sweaty skin. Then there was the view. Damn near 360 degrees. From the wide blue waters of the ocean, the green of Cape Upstart, and the flats of the salt pans we'd just crossed. Just so much to see, and so few people around!

Ah yeah, a geocache. I poked my way through some trees to get to GZ and made a quick find. But not before I'd bashed my elbow on a rock and ripped off some skin, and not before I'd found a green ant nest and wound up covered in them. Ah well, you get that in this game!

Everything in the handsome geocache was in good condition. Logbook signed at 14:45 and replaced as found. Thankfully the down was of course a lot easier, and the car's air conditioning awaited at the road. This was a magnificent detour and so worth the time. Thanks for bringing me to this magical place on the map, stanwell Smile

A 9 day roadtrip to Townsville and back to Brisbane in the Fangsoki Pajero with the usual cast of cachers.

This was day 3 of our journey.

This cache was on our list to find. Because they had already found it lat year, 1MinnieMoo and Fangsoki happily stayed in the car while Captain Terror and I took to the hill. I struggled to get up there but I was glad that I made it to the top for the cool breeze and the view. Glad we took the recommended route and didn't attempt it from the beach side. I spotted the cache and CT did the retrieval.

11/10/21 Find #5016
The day started like any other day.
Wait. Stop. No it didn’t.
Fangsoki and I arose from our slumber at the crazy time of 2:45am to check out of our Mackay accommodation around 3am, reaching Bowen just before sunset.
From there we continued to this cache, where we parked the car and looked up, and then worked out where would be best to begin our attack. With that decided, up we started.
Fangsoki powered up that hill today, like a bull on a mission, at least until the last 30ish metres where the pace slowed a little.
At that point we had to head left a little, and coming out at the top of the rocks I noticed the sheer drop the other side.
Right, well we will just stick to this side then! Shortly after, we located a pen…. And only briefly after that, a cache. With log signed, we found a good spot for some pictures of that view, before making our way back to the waiting geomobile. Not bad exercise to start the day.
Thanks for the cache stanwell.

1MinnieMoo and I were moseying towards Innisfail and decided to make the detour to grab this cache.

We parked up and looked at what was before us. Hmm. Well onward and upward. Through the grass.. and then up through the rocks... and finally up to the ridge aka "edge".

We followed our noses along the ridge till we ended up at GZ - and thankfully found a handsome container. This cache is the 163rd oldest active cache in Queensland (it has the same placed date as another cache)

We signed the log and rehid the cache. We took some time out for some photos before heading back down the hill back to the car.

A great little cache - and some great views. Well worth the detour. TFTC Stanwell & Lifted Smile

This was part of my road trip to Townsville, with an unexpected leave from work, off I went to do a few days of caching, grabbing a few special ones along the way. This was day three of my trip and the aim was to continue grabbing some old caches and be in Townsville by lunchtime Sunday for the meet up event.

This one was a bit of a drive off the highway but a worthy one. The camp grounds here were full of self-sufficient campers and I got some strange looks as I drove in. this was not the spot I wanted to be in so a quick look around and I saw another little area that I could park in safely. I saw what was ahead of me and the grass was super tall so it was time to don the long pants and do so tall grass walking. I managed to find an old trail and followed it up and around before it dissipated away. A search around and with the hint in mind I allowed for the growth of the tree in 15 years and soon came across an area that looked promising. There it was as stated a nice big pvc container in very good condition. Wow, awesome to find and with the log signed and all replaced as found I spent a little time taking in the views. Thank you for bringing me here, love the spot, gotta come back and stay longer.

An epic trek through long wavy grass, up a steep hill and over rocks to get this cache. We started out on a badly chosen path, backtracked and muggle husband chose a better way. We got there in the end with dirty shorts and grass and leaves all over us. The view was worth it though. Quite an adventure.

Well worth the climb for the views. Easy find once at the top. Spear grass didn't bother me, but the countless cotton strength spider webs did tho.

1:59:00 PM. Out and about showing Griffo and his better half around. I had looked at this cache before but wasn't keen on all the spear grass so didn't attempt. Today we decided to attempt it from the rocky side which made a hard climb. We came back down through the grass which wasn't so hard. The veiws from the top were great and so was the eagle gliding along the ridge. Glad to clear this one from my radar. Thanks stanwell for placing this cache.

[green]Bowen Bound[/green]

[Blue]Time to get out of Townsville for the day and Bowen was our destination. On our way south we decided to head in for this cache and we were a little worried as we first turned off the highway. The road in struck us as private property, it's only on closer inspection that realise that it's not.

A plethora of walking steaks on the road in, kept the speed down but didn't stop us from reaching our destination. We parked the geomobile at the bottom then took the obvious path up. The humidity had started to rise and we were soon sweating profusely as we worked our way through the scrub towards GZ. Wwe popped out at the top and were rewarded with a cooling breeze and an outstanding view. The cache was quickly spotted by geoD and geoP dispatched to collect.
After admiring the view we returned back from whence we came and quickly had the A/C cranked as we continued our journey.[/Blue]

# 810 Time again for a C+2M Camp-Cache adventure. We went north last time so decided to head south this time, with the hope of getting a couple of the littoral caches. We also had some other planned adventures as well.

Our second cache for the day, and little monkey was having no part of this hill. Big monkey and Champs started up but with grass almost over her head, the monkey soon found a spot to sit while Champs climbed the last little bit to claim a nice find.

Well after locating the campground we would be staying at tonight, we noticed that there was a cache that had not been found in almost 2 years!
Ontop of that mountain? Hell yes!
After parking the car in a suitable location we were on our way up! Thinking of all the long legless lizards that might be up here we clamberd on!
Arriving at GZ we hopped the rocks over to the edge.
What a view, hard to see why it hasnt been found in so long. Just magical.
After trudging back down the hill its now time to setup camp.
Thanks for making us climb this hill.
Cache condition is perfect, however your pen had exploded so we left a pencil up there for the next person.

I usually like to say "nice easy find", but not this time. This one took some work. As janine & the geotoddler stayed in the air-conned car, i found an old quarry track that wound its way up for a little while before i thought i could see a better route (about 1/2 way up). It was about this stage that i realised i had forgotten to swap my thongs for some more suitable footwear Sad After some serious huffing & puffing, i reached the summit to find an amazing view of Upstart Bay and Wunjunga to the north as well as a beautiful cool breeze blowing straight up the cliff face Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin. This one is definitely going on the favourites list ! I really enjoyed it.[^][^][^] Took caribena, left parachute man (he should go good from up hereWink) Thanks for bringing us here stanwell

Found at 5.20pm GAFF1. We camped at the nearby Funny Dunny campground and after setting up drove around to the starting point for this cache. Walked up along a track which suddenly petered out and then it was every man (and women) for themselves. Half way up we got a bit of a startle as a green/yellow slender snake went past an overhanging branch just 1 metre in front of us.
Got to GZ and found the cqche quickly. The views were non existent unfortunately due to the dust haze - but it was rewarding making it upto the top.
Thanks Stqnwell&Lifted.

This cache brought out the mountain goat in both of us. We were both kicking ourselves that we had left our hiking stick back in Innisfail but made up a temporary one so to ward off any unwanted reptiles that may appear. Luckily it wasn't needed and once at the top of the hill, the cool ocean winds and views made the climb all worth itWink. Ballbag located the cache and Bumblebee signed the log at 1100. We were soon on our way back down the hill via an easier route (rather than the wallbie track we had taken up[:x]. After de-prickling our socks, shoes, pants and shirts, we were off to Bowen to continue our caching adventure. TNLN. TFTC.

First find for the day. Found at 9:30am. Butterfly wasn't too happy about the distance of the township from the highway. Vast flat lands and bumpy terrain was not at all pleasurable to her, and she was very vocal about it too! [B)] Once at the hill, Butterfly had to stay with the Geo-Brats while Scorpion fought the long grass, the attacking mossies and the thoughts of being suprise bitten by a brown or taipan. [xx(] Finally finding the cache, recording the log and quickly taking in the views, Scorpion then made it fast down the hill, before he DID accidently run into a vicious reptile.

This cache was a real adventure. It was rainy and the grass was wet, so it was a slippery climb up the hill. We had a great view! After finding the cache we were chased away by moskistos. We hurried down to beat the falling darkness.
Stayed at Funny Dunny, nice place!

Thanks for taking us there, great fun!

Thanks "Stanwell and lifted" - A short easy stroll in surf sandals up the small hill and we were presented with great views. The rock formation at the top was very interesting - flat like a table. Very well-hidden cache.

We love coming down to Wunjunga because there is usually always good birdlife on the way. Today we saw a flock of brolgas and a Bustard.

What a great cache - my favourite so far I think. Secret Squirrel_BJC and I got up early and came out while it was cool - and really enjoyed the climb. The views were absolutely wonderful - we see this hill whenever we have come to Wunjunga and I never imagined myself climbing it. I am sure this cache will not get muggled!!! Left a Scout patch (courtesy of Burdair_3 I imagine) and a Singapore 50 cent piece. TN TFTC

That was a pretty difficult climb but luckily not too far. As with 'Bay Watch' I left the wife and kids at the base. Down on my hands for a fair bit of the walk. Nice view at the top and cache is hidden nicely. Everything is good with the cache. Took Koala Keyring. Left Bank Nite Club Keyring. TFTC SL.

This is what geocaching is about. Getting you off the beaten track, driving for miles across saltpans to a beach and proceeding to climb a rocky knoll through some of the itchiest and snakiest grass in Oz [^]
Fantastic view from this unusual location Big Grin
Dropped off Dan's Generic National Park Token.

What a fantastic place to stop and see. Was amazed at the amount of traffic down that way.

Took a nice drive along the beach with the Weirs and spoke to locals to find a good spot to fish (we never got time). we were pleasently surprised by the township also.

Up the hill we went, towards the top was an experience, Male Weir in his "safety boots" female Weir and Liz both scared of heights. Along a very narrow ledge on the top of the hill with a straight drop down (amazing what a person will do to find a small plastic container with stuff in it) We are so proud of how they got across, well done ladies. Found the cache as well as green ants. Fantastic views. On the way down the girls showed us the green ant dance, let me tell you, if you get the chance, check it out. It's quite humourous.

Took penny and left koala and wire puzzle

This is by far the most physical one that I have done I'm not good with heights or long grass or prickles or green ants or snakes as the boys and liz found out today but it felt good to challenge myself.(although it makes you think how crazy are the people that come up with these spots)Who ever has the wally wombat travel bug you need to log it because it is not in this cache anymore.

T talking taco could not leave him in this spot any longer so he is going on holidays in three weeks I'll put him in a nicer location. also took clip
L a smile and box of paper clips

please if anyone finds a brown wallet containing $60 keep the money but PLEASE return the wallet to pete&liz so look carefully on your climb up and on the way down as it could be a profitable cache to find thanks guys

Hi All,

just a note to ask all cachers to keep a lookout for Wally the Wombat (TB) last seen in this cache, and appears to have gone missing, there is a $100.000.00 reward for his return (sounds good dosen't it) joking aside if anybody knows his whereabouts please put him back in a cache, and pm team wombat to let us know where he is.

When the wind is blowing this is a great spot. Even in the Jan heat it was very pleasant at the top.
There was only one TB here despite the cache log indicating two.

In, Talking Taco Dog TB. Out, Rudolph the clown TB.

Found it!

More when we are back in Germany.

Thanks and best regards,

A great drive in to an interesting location......something most people would pass by without a second thought. Twisted May not be everyones cup of tea though....

As i had hidden "Burdekin Break" just up the road, i thought it would be appropriate to check out this cache and the "Funny Dunny" Park. It wasn't what i expected Razz Great views from the top.....though it was 32C at this time of year (no wind today [xx(]). Swapped 2 TBs for 1 TB to send them on their way home. Big Grin

Thanks Stanwell & Lifted for a great cache (including container and location Wink)TNLNSL

The mozzies were out and about to greet us at this location. But the views were spectacular and well worth the effort to get there. A hat, good shoes and a water bottle would be must whilst looking for this cache.
