Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there we decided wed drive in the Lake Ohau area & check out some of the local, to here, caches we had biked some of the A2O Bike Trail, from the carpark, out to the canal outlet & back but thought wed better do this cache on the main road in interesting bit of history here the cache was a quick and easy find, the logbook signed & cache returned as found were also pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN except photos:LN:LS this was #6,565 for us!
First cache find of the day en route to Lake Ohau. I had never been to the lake before, and it was great to get away from the hordes of tourists that we had encountered the previous day on a day trip to the Mt Cook / Hooker Valley area.We parked by the info sign, had a read, then walked onto GZ. StreetWalkerNZ made the find as I overshot GZ. TFTC.
#23601. There was good parking at the Spade Line sign, so we stopped and had a read (very interesting). We then walked towards the lake to get to GZ. I spotted a big rock and headed off the road to check it out. I noticed Troodles merrily marching past (thinking she needed to get to the top of the nearby rise). I called out to her, and then made a quick find. TFTC.
Thanks to the hint we found this one really quickly. Ideal with the rain clouds fast closing in again. Thanks for placing.

Heading to Lake Ohau/Middleton for a couple days camping with the family (and friends). Not a lot of time for caching, just one or two where I can. Just about there; so grabbed this cache before stopping.
Thank you for cache, really nice part of the country. Photo is rainbow from pending rain coming from up valley which I have been way up in 4wd
Thanks to Patandjohn who had been here before long ago. Joint with them on their day 2 of A2O.

Thanks for the cache and bringing me here today. We are enjoying the A20 trail today and also the weather. Amazing
1563. 2:40 pm. Jenryellea loved the historical sign. The rest of the crew stayed in the cachingmobile with the uncertain road as I dashed to make the find. Found with eKitten, GRAkiWi, Li0npaw and Jenryellea. Signed kanoe GeLj. TFT(lined)C.
Stopped in the camper van to read the sign and grab the cache, very interesting piece of fence and information board so thank you for making us stop here.
We were heading to Mt Cook for a wee break and of course were caching throughout the area.
We had an awesome time with some brilliant weather apart from only one day where it didn't play ball. Great to see so many awesome caches throughout the area.
Interesting sign and history, who knew a spade width could be so significant!! Day turned out lovely after the rain yesterday. Visiting Lake Ohau for the day.

Leaving Lake Ohau today. Decided on a bike ride along to the weir. Rode up the hill from the lake to get this one. It was interesting reading about the spade line.
Nicely tucked under. Thanks for the cache

Quick park and grab on our way up the side of Ohau. Scary to still see evidence of the fire damage. Found with Conbat. TFTC!
Great hiding spot. Nice feature and not too close to the Muggle visiting spot jut along and across the road that tells story behind the spade line. Probable why it is still going strong after all these years along with the CO's maintenance. I found the nearby info board very interesting. Thanks Bitsprayer.
Out for evening drive to show a newbie what caching was about, only did a couple and this was one. Interesting history. Tftc.
Interesting how the people in Wellington just drew a straight line on the map to determine the boundary, regardless of the terrain. TFTC
It rocks. Level 4 day, it's good to be out, something to do other than 4 walls!

Away for the weekend with the whanau. Found a few along the way on our travels!
TFTC!
Sorry excuse all the generic logs, but I'm so behind in logging that other wise I'll never catch up !!

An extended weekend with the whanau exploring the Mackenzie and Central Otago. We saw another spade line marker further up the road! TFTC!!
Now we have never heard of this 'spade line' before. Once we got back into the car we saw the old fence. This is one of the older caches which we have found. It is great that it is still active. An easy find.
Wow. Those poor guys digging this futile line which was later moved and so completely redundant. There’s a piece of history I didn’t know before. Thanks for placing.
Found that one. Interesting reading about the spade line - how bazaar in this part of the country.
We found a number of caches on this trip - thanks to all the hiders for there hides. Trying to get these all logged.

Wow what a fascinating story - never heard it before. Thanks so much for bringing me here and ensuring I learnt another bit of history. TFTC # 12,545
While als was biking the A2O back towards the Ohau Canal, jfs was relocating to pick him up, with just enough time to collect this cache on the way.
+ a glass pebble, - nothing.

Lovely piece of history. We hope lake okay is idyllic as the rough guide claims. I
Supporting a group doing the A2O so have to cache while they are slogging it out. Nice quick find. Tftc
We recognised the CO name from our early caching in this area so were very happy to look for a bitsprayer cache today. We checked the publication date as well. One clip is off the cache but it was otherwise complete and dry – not bad after over 12 years. We have been caching for just a little longer than the cache has been active.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Found on our way back to ohau ski fields. Again a very pretty view of the mountains. Cache is still safe and sound ) tftc cvitamin
It's a lazy day for me today and after sleeping in, I step in the car to go to Lake Ohau. On my way I pass this one. It seems a little strange that this one's been hidden here, while there's a sign with a story at the other side of the road. Found quickly; thanks for hiding!
Thanks for the history lesson. Box lid is broken sorry didnt have a replacement on me. Should be ok for a little while but will need to be replaced at some point.
Second cache, today. We make the cycling tour A20 to the coast. It's a pitty, that it's a bit hazy today. The best light is an hour before sunset. Greetings from Germany.
Found by mrandmrschosen1978, with Granville86a, while on a road trip over Waitangi Weekend. We started off traveling through Central Otago and on up to the McKenzie Basin exploring Lake Ohau to Mt Cook one day, then we spent another day by heading down the Waitati Valley before heading back down south. As we explored these areas we found this cache along the way. Thank you for the placement was a really interesting information board and piece of history
