Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, now WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
After our hike we arrived at the top to find no cache. We double checked nw and nothing was here. We determined that the recent work may have destroyed the cache but after searching places it could have gone we finally made the discovery in the 'SW' corner. We thought it should stay as they might come back for more work on the structure. Thanks for the cache.
It seems to have been a busy few weeks with one thing and another, which has not allowed for much time for getting out for a good walk (and cache).
Working from home today I decided, quite early on, to treat myself to a few hours of exercise in the hills; our dog certainly wasn't going to say no.
It's been a year or two since I was last up this end of the Range and I was surprised to see the slow crawl of houses in the lower slopes.
In the time that has passed I had forgotten this is quite a grunty walk in places and, having come dressed for winter, the weather decided to turn spring on, meaning I got rather hot on the way up.
I saw no-one on the way up, right until I got to the GZ when the obligatory MTBer should come along and rebuild large parts of his bike it seemed.
Fortunately I was able to pass the time coaxing Mellow out of the undergrowth which also allowed me to approach the GZ from the other (better) side.
Always good to get an older cache, certainly one that requires some time and effort to get to.
Nice one, now on to the Look Out.

The seat was a welcome sight after the grunt up the hill and it was time for a lunch stop. A few cyclist went past as we sat, then the cache was found and a TB retrieved.
Fog rolling in as I reached the top so views only in one direction. Cache spotted and off further up the hill.
Went on a big adventure with Wafflekitties and geo pups, had a blast thanks for the memories! TFTC.
Found while on a winter holiday with LCBuilder and our two geodogs. We spent 3 weeks travelling down the east coast and then up the west coast, setting our tent up at a different campsite each night. We didn't have any real plan, just went where the caches took us we saw a lot of awesome sights and will definitely have to come back one day as 3 weeks isn't really that long!
Finally made it to Sunny Nelson, definitely one of my favourite places.
This was one of our more memorable days, we spend the entire day up on these hills going from cache to cache. Beautiful day for it, we were all exhausted by the end (or even before the end), I don't think the dogs moved another muscle all night once we were home..

Woow this is some bike ride started up Marsden Valley road then rode the Barnicoat Range track will finish at Easby Park TFTC
Great hike rewarded by fantastic views and the all important smilie too!! Thanks surf'n!!
#9678. We approached from the Richmond side. A whole gang of young MTB riders were already at the top, about to start a downhill run. There was warning tape around the stile saying people should keep out because of logging operations. However, it was a Sunday, and with no sign of any logging going on, and the cache being a short distance away well clear of any trees, I hopped over the stile and went to locate the cache. Troodles had a rest on the stile and I took he log book over for her to sign. I think one of the MTB lads gave me a disapproving look for crossing the warning tape. After I'd replaced the cache, the MTB riders were gone, and we took over the nearby seat to have the second part of our lunch. TFTC.
I sat on the stile (as the nearby seat was occupied by young mountain bikers) to regain my breath after the steep climb to get here, while StreetWalker, ignoring the "danger - keep out tape", crossed the fence and set about looking for the cache. He then brought it back to me to do the paperwork .
Always good to find such an old cache and what a great view from here, well worth the placement. TFTC.

No views today - up in the cloud. (It always seems to be cloudy when I'm up here!)
Nice big container - shame I didn't have anything to leave. TFTC. Last find for this trip (#7) before I headed down the hill to Easby Park.

Had to hunt around a bit. Got sidetracked by the little cairn of rocks. Thanks for the cache.
In Richmond for a wee family holiday. Was planning on coming up here yesterday but heavy rain prevented that! Today dawned lovely, and our last day in Richmond before heading home to Christchurch, so we decided to leave Nana and grandand in charge of the wee dudes and head up the hill early. Decided on the steep direct route up! Only took 30min to reach this point. Great views. Continued along to the Lookout. Cheers.
sleety rain started falling with a cold northerly wind blowing so we didn't hang around too long to admire the view tftc
Breath was taken away getting up here. That is a steep track but the view is worth it TFTC

Fantastic part of the world. Loved the vase of poppies someone had placed near the seat. Then going down was only 15mins on geopedals, great. TFTC. http://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/icon_smile_cool.gif
Finally made the top. Found cache qucikly and left TB. Good view from up here tonight. TFTC
An awesome mix of work and play today, assisting StickmanNZ a bit further along the ridge, TFTC.
Makka pakka 2 went out to day to do his first cache and where better to start but on top of a hill TFTC
What a great place for a cache. You walk, or should I say grunt up the hill and suddenly there is this breathtaking view. We got scared off the real Barnicoat today by keep out, logging signs, so headed for this one instead. TFTC
Found on a gorgous day views great. Enjoy the great walks we have so close to richmond. Thanks.
Walked to the top of Barnicoat and collected "La Piste" on the way. Great morning for geo-caching, Nelson weather at its best.
found with not much difficulty. Spotted muggles around after finding the cache so hope they did not see where it is.
After reaching the nearby La Piste cache it would have been a waste to turn around and go back down so I continued upward for the even better views to be had from here. I like these type of caches.
So pleased that there was a seat to rest my tired legs. Loved the view. Number 3 of 8 for the day. TFTC.
1230hrs Time to move on down taking the opportunity for a quick find here. The Italian Job was here......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
Great view from here, the light was just right for some good photo's of Nelsom and the Barnicoat. Shame no camera.
Dropped off the Buggy TB while out for a bike ride and took the two coins that have been up here for a while.
Very hot bike ride up there last night. Took the TB without realising that the shoes were part of it as they were not attached to the disc. Found out when we went to log the find. Went back up again thismorning at 5:30 to get the shoes before work and dropped off a geocoin.
It certainly was breathtaking, (or maybe breath-defying in our case) hiking up here today, but the views are really stunning on such a clear day and we rewarded ourselves by collecting Finding Nemo TB. Replaced the plastic bags here, so all good for months to come. TFTC.
well, since last time I was here,a lot of trees have been dropped, and trees that were saplings are now shelter from the sun, which is not what was needed today. Cold and bleary. Nice walk thnx
Beautiful up here today - not too hot and not too cold - sounds a bit like Goldilocks. TFTC (468)
Nice walk & View but why Barnicoat =From the marsden vly Barnicoat is my favourite walk. Tatab
Whew, took a bit of a wrong turn half way up and had to back track a bit. Made it in the end. Awesome views, great cache. TFTC, Biggles.
Had to wait for Burlis again as he slowly trundled up from Barnicoat behind me. Need to tell him xmas is over!! Quickly had the cache then tore off down through single tracks into Richmond. Thanks.
Found with Mr Navfam while mountain biking. Tracks very dry and dusty on descent which Mr Navfam will attest to as he ate plenty of my dust on the way down!
This and 3 other caches on this ridge have been at the top of my "nearest" list for quite some time. having successfully ignored these for almost two years by putting them into the "too hard" basket, today was the day to finally visit them. Having started from Marsden Valley seemed the best choice, until we got less than a kilometer from the last cache and found that the road was blocked by dozens of wind blown pine trees. Through? Only got so far with that. In the end I had to climb around them - first down, then up again, at one stage walking along the trunk of a tree to get back to the road. So a warning for budding cachers: if you do Breathtaking Barnicoat first, you won't have much of an easy time getting to the rest. If BB is your last to do, then you'll have a bit of a drama at the end of your walk right now. Anyway - found the cache! -TB LNSL, thanks for the walk and the stunning views.
Amazing views - very hot climb on a beautiful Easter Sunday!
Had a nice chat with the wife of the look out warden on way down.

Mr Explorer headed up early this morning to find the four on the hill. Started at Hill Street and Mrs picked him up at Marsden Valley Road.
Second of four. Pretty puffed up here, took five for a drink and food on the seat nearby.

Came on up after doing Home on the Range with Mrs F. and Grandad. Not bad for an after diner stroll. Mrs F. didn't quite make the top, and complained that there was no toilet. Easy find, 360 deg view from GZ now obstructed by tree growth but plenty of other spots to enjoy the sun set. Made it back to the main road at about 10pm, dark by this time
Went for pre breakfast walk up the track - I used to run up here when I was younger Took a bit of hunting, but found the cache in excellent condition. Moved it to where the hint mentions it should be (it was only 2m away) and enjoyed the views from here. TNLN Thanks.
Having read the previous logs and trying to find this one today I feel confident in saying it is now missing.
Can it please be replaced or archived?
Good spot and starting point for some great mountain bike decents so worth the trip up

My second big climb this week - phew.. Found the cache with my son (Metallicacher). I'm now off for a long hot bath to rest my weary, aged bones!! TNLN
Found it 2nd attempt. Thanks to tuttifruiti for rescuing this cache. Easy find. Thanks.TNLNSL
Container was not where it was supposed to be. Almost gave up looking, but found it by accident in the open alongside the track. Replaced it and put a plastic bottle on top. Didn't check contents if all trade items were present.
Again amazing views of snow covered mountains after loosing more cooling-water on the way up.
(Interesting tribute to a girl).
Wonder what a 'Barnicoat' is. English is not my native language and I cannot find it in the dictionary. Have to visit Google. Thanks for this cache.

That was a bit of a struggle, especially for the mutt ( jack russel ). Her little wee legs

This is our first find for today, quite a rewarding and easy one after a quick rest. This geocaching lark must be good for us as as the hill climbing seems to be getting easier.
We nearly lost our Jack Russell who found a scent and dissapeared to finally return 15 minute later, quite exhausted.

Carried on from HOTR, walk was a bit steeper, but had a lovely view at around 7pm on a fantastic evening. Cache was easily found, although I was tempted to look under the pile of rocks No exchange. Cheers Gav [842]
A very steep and long walk up from the previous cache. It was also very hot. Some of these 'roads' are not ones we would like to drive up!! Excellent views from the top and an easy find.
Thanks

Decided that Eddy and I needed a good walk this evening, so decided to head out to Richmond and up the hill. Don't know why I have put off doing this, as its a great walk and a great view. 65 minutes from Hill street via the "Home On The Range" cache. Eddy found a couple of Rabbits and enjoyed chasing the quail.
Great spot all round - Thanks

It took us 1hr 15m (I think) to get up here from the playground going via Reservoir - a nice gentle meander. GPS took me right to the spot, but we didn't hang around very long as although it was very sunny, the breeze was freezing. Had a picnic halfway down instead Took the TB as it has been languishing here a while I think. T4TC
Found, great view over Richmond valleys! Bit of a slog up - not my favourite walkway! TNLN.
Nice One!!!!!! Great view from the top and well worth the effort. Took 20 minutes longer to walk to the top than my predecessors. The brain told the somewhat older than middle age knees to "Go faster", and the knees told the brain,"You must be joking". Easy find, co-ordinates were spot on. TNLN Thanks
Easy find in a place I have been to hundreds of times. 28 mins 35 secs from car park at top of Lodestone to the gate at the top. OK for an unfit middle aged guy.

Good walk up here with Dallas the dog. - rum n bass + part # D57033S W5760A. Picked up Geocoin.
A bit of a grunt to get here!!, 29 minutes from Valhalla heights. I used to come up here rabbit shooting about 16 years ago, it has changed alot since then.
It was blowing a gale up on top and not pleasant at all, the view was superb.
I didnt realise that there were two caches hidden there- one for the HUGE bug and one for the log and trades.
I took the "keeper of the keys TB" and left Moneydorks Geocoin and Awaroa Endeavour TB
Did you drive up here Paul??
