4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Had a very cold day for our visit today
The walk out to the island was very muddy and sticky
Mrs SeabreezeOZ and Charlie 4 had their gumboots on so were not too hampered by the sticky mud
I decided to try putting my feet in plastic bags which worked brilliantly
However, climbing up the sharp, loose rocky hill and back down ruined the shoe protection and my shoes were soon caked in a thick, heavy, sticky layer of mud making my return journey very slow and strenuous.
No sign of the cairn used to hide the cache, would have been happy to replace the container, maybe in another location.
Did not get any response from the CO so had to pass on dropping an angel cache

I am going to Lake Ballard next week and can replace the cache container
Let me know ASAP

Sadly after over a month since our "needs maintenance" log there is still no response from the CO. Maybe it needs to go?

10-May-16
10.05.16 thanks for the excersize and the views, but the cache not located

10-May-16
A beautiful place. The Antony Gormley statues are impressive. The climb up the hill with Grumpi68 was rewarding but sadly both the cairn and the cache are gone.

10-May-16
This one is missing. See recent logs.

22-Apr-16
Like the previous cachet, I think this one is gone. There is definitely no cairn! Bit of a pity. However what an amazing place to see. Well worth the drive to get here.

07-Mar-16
still no cairn so started a knew one, looked in the obvious rock hole and then spent a long time looking ever where but still came away empty handed.
The exercise up was good anyway

Back here after a few years. Still a fascinating place with some great photo opportunities. TFTC

30-Sep-15
This has been on the bucket list for some time now.

With half geo-half muggle hubby's brother living in Kalgoorlie and us having the opportunity to stay with him during the week, our visit to Inside Australia was serendipitous.

We jumped in the car and hit a few caches on our way to our destination, but as always wishing we had time for more. Our timing was perfect though, and we arrived at Lake Ballard just as the sun was casting long shadows. Despite the divine temperatures, we were very glad to have thought ahead and packed our fly nets.

The feeling on the lake whist observing the artworks was ethereal, humbling and awe-inspiring. It is truly a special place and not to be missed. To log a cache here is just the icing on the cake. Thank you!

10-Sep-15
What a climb and what a view for our 400th cache. Interesting rock engraving JSR 1898 on the rock. Wonder who that is. Wouldn't have climbed thus if it wasn't for the cache. Glad we did. TFTC. SL v

Out and about with &0thers on our stay Menzies. Just left Gwalia, such an interesting place to visit. Take the time to visit the museum and village if you are going through. Got to Menzies and thought it to be desertered. Settled the vans in and wanted to check out this Gormley GAlleries. Easy parking and we could out these works of art onto the way put to the top of the hill. Love a little challenge. Easy find. Think the terrain rating and difficulty should be swapped. This is a 3 1/2 walk. Great view from here. I would not like of this works in my front yard Thanks for the cache

10-Sep-15
What a hide. Awesome view.

10-Sep-15
Great view and quite windy, were with xambo4u. Thanks for the cache.

12-Aug-15
Amazing GZ but alas no cairn on top of the hill.

25-Jul-15
Climbed up here yesterday and found no sign of cache, so came back this morning and replaced it. Container is now a Continental soup cube and new log has been included. Still need to bring your own pen.

25-Jul-15
Having found the correct location, I have replaced the cache and signed log. TFTC SL

03-May-15
No find! Going on all the other DNF think the cache needs some attention. Would have been great to find.

03-May-15
Hard climb for nothing that has been so for quite a while. We demolished the cairn and rebuilt it. No cache.

14-Apr-15
Love this place even without a find for this one! Climbed up to see the sunset from here. Lake a bit muddy today but loved the 'crystal footprints'!

07-Jan-15
Not found because we even didn't try to find it. It was 45+C this day and my condition is not that good to climb a hil. But thanks for this impressive place and all those statues hanging around

02-Nov-14
This was a DNF no sign of the cache anywhere I think it may be vandalised.

13-Aug-14
No luck here either Sad

18-Jul-14
Climbed to top and located cairn. Cairn was in dismantled state but couldn't find container. Rebuilt cairn and took photo to show we were in what we thought was correct location. Lovely nights camp there though.

06-Jul-14
TFTC and thank you for the great location. Caches like this make it a worthwhile activity. Great view.

01-Jul-14
Wonderful spot, great attraction as we stopped off on our family holiday. Well done putting a great cache here. Tom and Hayley

22-Jun-14
During my weekend in Kalgoorlie my guest parents and I drove to this unique lake. Absolutly amazing. I felt like I was on another planet. TFTC and for the stunning view this cache gets a little blue lanyard!

Awesome view. Left a smiley face.

05-Oct-13
Great spot to vist, I think the trip down is a lot hairy than the one up, got stuck waiting for lots of muggles to leave before we could replace, was a very busy place today. TFTH

03-Oct-13
Great walk.speccy scenery.TFTC

01-Oct-13
I didn't expect to get another cache here, I grabbed the one on the edge of the lake 'Crystal Mirage' back in January and for some reason I did not have this cache on my GPS. As we approached this time THis one poped up on my GPS. After parking the car we set off we went to get the cache. The second time I have climbed this hill. Looks like the cache container has changed since the description was written. An interesting spot. TFTC

19-Sep-13

Amazing place, lntn. Only place I got reception

25-Aug-13
Travelling with non-cacher friends, they don't mind if we have the occasional hunt, at least we hope they don't. This cache definitely showed them the principle of "quality not quantity". Congratulations Paddy Trackers for placing it and many thanks Bulba's for renovating it. We left a tag, a couple of travellers with us visited, otherwise TNSL.

02-Aug-13
Walked to the top of the hill at sunset.
Found what was left of the cairn but no cache.

We rebuilt the Cairn & placed a new container with log sheet & a few goodies.

We did this cache with team Trailor on our way to do the Outback Way.

A single rock now reveals GZ

Our first find at Lake Ballard. We arrived and jumped out of the car - very excited to see where the GPS was pointing. After a power walk across and a quick climb we had the cache in hand. Fantastic view and wonderful location for a cache, thanks Paddy Trackers. We did not have any repair gear with us, but if the next visitor has a container it would be great to upgrade the cache from the worn plastic bag that now holds it. TNLN

16-Apr-13
Geo-wife got some knee problems half way up the hill so Geo-hubby went up for the rest on his own. Great views here. Our climb was around 5pm, so perfect temperature and the flies were not too bad. TFTC Paddy Trackers.

02-Apr-13
Worth the climb for a great view. The cache container is missing, contents are now only in a plastic bag.

Thanks Paddy Trackers.

05-Feb-13
Had a great walk up here with my brother. I didn't have a container but gave it a new bag and log book.
As others have said a container would be good for it.
Thanks for the cache in an interested area.

01-Feb-13
Great spot. Not sure about the longevity of this cache with a container but certainly a great spot for a cache. TFTC.

07-Oct-12
It was quite packed, and we spent a few minutes sniffing around but nothing could be found.

08-Apr-12
Good one

07-Apr-12
Well placed cache. Great view from the top. Didn't take a container with us (only just read the logs now), but if the next person heading out there happens to read this, please pack a container to take as I'm not sure how long the bag will last!

Great spot, loved playing around with the sculptures, including taking some 'naughty' photos! Favourite from us!

07-Apr-12
Found quickly - no container with this one, may need next person to take one out.

18-Oct-11
Found it. After a stroll on the salt flats we had to climb a fairly steep hill. Lots of loose shale underfoot coming down.

17-Oct-11
Thanks for this one!!! The hill was one hell of a climb - but even scarier coming down. Wouldn't recommend this on to the faint hearted. But thanks for an easy find once we reached the top. Smile

10-Oct-11
This is a 5/5 cache. Loved the climb and the view was just fantastic. Unfortunately we did not have a new container, just a zip top bag to replace the cache container. Hopefully someone unlike us, will read the past logs and take up a new container. Thanks for bringing us up here, the views are spectacular.

Best spot for viewing the surrounds. TFTH

02-Oct-11
Took-Netherland coin...Left - a pen..Gr8 cache area..GR8 excercise on this one ..certainly enjoyable..Thanks..............have just started but will cary a few items after I have been to the next big town ..Sorry I couldnt help this time

02-Oct-11
Gr8 cache spot..Brilliant view all round

06-Aug-11
Nice from from the top, not too much mud. TFTC

22-Jul-11
Mud, mud, mud. A very fun cache to get to. My thongs got suctioned onto the mud so I had to carry them and that mud felt pretty good between my toes. My husband and little ones weren't so silly to wear thongs and managed much better than me. Lovely spot.

29-Apr-11
Easy to find with all the clues given. Needs a new container but didn't have one, sorry. Lid cracked on current one. Great spot, enjoyed the view. Son geocacher climbed the hill five times. TFTC

Out doing a night Cache and we had no luck. We will be back in the morning.

10-Nov-10
What a day! Fantastic - but HOT! Menzies was expecting 45 degrees today - so what was it out there on the salt lake?!  It was sizzling! But - what a great place. We had this attraction on our 'to do' list - but a bonus to have a cache to seek here.  GZ wasn't quite as described - but look around - and 'the obvious' should be found. But the container is fractured. If one of the next cachers could go equipped with a replacement rectangular 'take-away Chinese tub', the cache would be very happy. The flies are in swarms, the views are great, and the sculptures are well worth the drive!  TN. Left 'Turtle Fun'. Thanks Paddy Trackers for setting up this one.

03-Oct-10
Hey! this is pretty scary up here.
What a view and how special are these figures.
Camped here 2 nights and did the sunset and the dawn with them. Our biggest bonus was there was water in the Lake from the 4mm of rain that had fallen.
Even got right out to the furthest figure - no footprints for that perfect pic!
Thanks for the great climb and view.

Awesome view from the top of this 'island'!! Great to see the sculptures from another vantage point, and see there was water in the far part of the lake.
Container is starting to get brittle, and we did not have a spare container with us. Someone might be able to take a spare container with them, whoever visits this next Smile
TNLN, TFTC!

Found It TNLN Thanks for the climb LOL

18-Jan-10
Simply brilliant! I hope many more cachers find this fantastic cache site! I'm told that to experience a full moon from this vantage point is a life changing experience - particularly if stoned, but I wouldn't know for sure.
Thanks for the cache.

Wow! What a spectacular spot. Felt privileged to to be here. Visiting from USA. Thanks.

30-Dec-09
looking up at the hill, I (Stacey) decided not to make the climb up, however Dennis was feeling brave and made the journey up to the top pretty quickly (though the downward journey was much slower!). He got some good film footage from the top and signed the cache while I wandered around amongst the statues!
TFTC Smile

25-Oct-09
We placed a temporary plastic box with a new logbook and some goodies which we could find in our car Smile.
We place it just 5m away from the original coords. since we found these a bit to easy to find for muggles.
Maybe the owner could place it by the tree when doing the maintenance, it is really a nice spot and it would be a shame if it got muggled again.
Thanks for breaking up the long road with some nice caches you place along the route.
We found this one on our 10 days 4000Km trip from Nannup through the goldfields and wheat belt, with our goal to find to oldest (6 years) awaiting ftf cache in WA: Nichols knob

04-Oct-09
Found this one, but the cairn had been well and truly dismantled previously and no sign of actual cache itself, so we'll treat it like a virtual and upload a photo. Fantastic spot. Kids got well and truly muddy.

30-Jul-09
Dismantled & Rebuilt the Cairn but DNF. Amazing views tho.

03-Nov-08
Had a great View wile looking for the cache
there isn't much of a carn left up on the hill
TFTH

12-Jul-08
All we found after slipping and sliding across to the island was some log sheets. The cairn was pretty much flattened. Signed log sheet and placed under some rocks as we hadn't brought anything out with us and it was too wet to return again. Thx for the cache. Will post a photo later

07-Apr-08
Esay to find. Had rain, but time enough to have a quick look. tftc

10-Dec-07
So happy Found the micro at 4.30pm. Worth to visit. Love it so much. Thank you for organise the cache and hunt.

31-Oct-07
Found at 1400. View from GZ fantastic. The sculptures are amazing, well worth the 51 klm trip in from Menzies. When we arrived a work team were in process of putting in fence posts to keep hoons off the salt surface. Only 2 days ago some imbicile did wheelies around some of the sculptures, bogging his car. Then he removed two sculptures to use as traction under the tyres to successfully get out. The sculptures thankfully can be repaired but it makes one wonder what goes through some peoples minds.

21-Oct-07
What a surreal spot - loved every second of this place. Thank goodness for fly nets.
Just like Devar we spent a deal of time reconstructing the entire cairn and finding nothing. So we stood and admired the landscape when we noticed a little green shape half way down the western side of the hill. Some scrambling later we had retrieved the cache from where some muggle had obviously thrown it. The contents needed a bit of drying off but it is now back in place - half way up western side of cairn under a slightly bigger and flatter rock than the rest. Hope it attracts hordes of cachers to visit - this place is worth it.

30-Jul-07
Ahhh! I can't believe I didn't find this one. I dug around the cairn, but since I didn't know what I was looking for I didn't find it. Sad
Oh well, it's not TOO far from home. I'll be back one day. Smile

Anyhow, it's a fantastic view from up there. The statues are quite surreal in the landscape. Very nice spot for a cache.

01-Jul-07
On our way to the Canning Stock Route so we just had to divert off to see this as its been on our list of things to do for some time. We were expecting only a few staues but there are heaps of them scattered about on the salt lake. The lake was a bit wet so we could only walk to about 6 of them without getting too muddy. Each one is differnet to the last one. The hill sheltered us from the wind until we made it to the summit but then it was a bad hair day after that. We took a while to find the Micro cache but we rebuilt the cairn afterwards as it did look a bit seconhand. While there we added some rocks to it so its bigger and better. Its a Great place to visit and should be on everyones lists of things to see in W.A.

15-Sep-06
Excellent spot for the cache. Fantastic view. Lake Ballard is a rather bizarre place with all the sculptures. Was a very muddy adventure as there had been some rain. Had a bit of a hard time finding the cache(had to move a lot of rocks on the cairn and then rebuild) at one stage thought i'd be leaving without a find.

14-Sep-06
What a view! Well worth slipping and sliding on the mud. Had to move lots of rocks to find the cache. Climbed the hill with my brother, 2 year old nephew and 3 year old neice. They really enjoyed the climb, view and find. Thanks!

06-Aug-06
lovely place sl cheers

10-Feb-06
Found with The Dirty's and Team Bungarra. What a spooky place!!! Well worth the drive and and the view off the hill is spectacular.

10-Feb-06
Well ... what a bizarre place! Had to dismantle the cairn to find the cache and kept looking over our shoulders waiting for the expected abduction and mandatory probe! Also odd(!?) that the Qantas inflight magazine featered the spot at the time we were able to get there ... Mulder would be happy Wink Thanks for the directions.

10-Feb-06
Found this one after removing a few rocks from the cairn. Don't worry I left it looking as good as new. This was my first FTF. Really eerie place. Worth the drive. Thanks
