All good here too. The cache is still a bit of a reach despite the last finder's efforts.
I turned around shortly after this to avoid the sand, returning to the road that goes up the hill to Baring Head Park and the lighthouse. TFTC.

Fantastic weather for a round trip bike ride to collect this series of caches. This was easily seen as it was a small Sistima within a large one, but really difficult to retrieve as it was lodged out of reach in the middle of the rock. Looked like it had just been thrown in some time ago. However, we finally managed to flexi-fit in to within arm's reach and fish it out. Cache is all good. Replaced in a more accessible place as per the hint and close to the GZ. TFTC
A beautiful walk along the beach. Took a while to find this one with suepate, ACL and owlj. Thanks for placing the cache
After a lovely wander along the beach had quite a search to find this one. Found with ACL, OwlJ and Elihyn. Tftc
Another vintage cache in Wellington. As a kid growing up in Seatoun I always wanted to come to Baring Head and see where the Pacific Charger sat on the rocks for so long. nearly 40 years later here I am, amazing place it is too. A calm day today. Fav point!
This was more of a mission than I was expecting. Having just come from the lighthouse (so close and yet so far) via the steep decent to the south I was disappointed to find myself walking around a coastal section on loose stones or sand. That made it next to impossible to ride on so I pushed the bike all the way here which I did not enjoy at all.
So I arrived here a little fatigued and was disappointed again not to be able to locate the cache. Eventually I looked at the size and was surprised to see it was a regular. How hard can it be to find a regular?! After quite a while I gave up, pushed my bike around the other side of the rock and was preparing to leave when, is that a cache I can see peeking out of there? I was searching on the wrong side all the time. Not my finest hour to be sure so I was highly relieved to locate this remote cache.
As always, the regular size is much appreciated. TFTC.
I was so glad to find that the track north from here was ridable and I finally made some good progress from here.

Container replaced and everything back in order. Thanks to Infoferret for sorting it out.
9 February 2020 12:44. The lads had the first orienteering event of the year at Baring head, so I took the chance to tag along and visit the last unfound by me cache in the area. It was a beautiful day, sunny, but with a very slight breeze to cool things down to pleasant.
Parked up, and crossed over the bridge and worked my way along the track around the hills to the beach. Took me far longer to work my way along the beach than I anticipated (that shingle/sand is slow going) but eventially I reached where I needed to be.
After disturbing two sheep who were hiding in the shade ( I really felt for them with their full winter coats in todays heat!) I was able to look around and. Quickly spotted the log sheet. How it has survived in such good condition, with no container, is beyond me! The paper is fragile, but perfectly signable, so I did just that.
As this is an old cache, with a NM log already on it I came prepared to keep it going if I could. The original logsheet is now in a ziplock bag, in a small sistema box, inside a 2l sistema box, with some random bits of SWAG. It is safely back exactly where I found it, with some stones to keep it safe from prying eyes (amd sheep). This should keep it going for the next decade!

A quick find today but as others have said it's just the paper log left, no plastic bag or container. Log was surprisingly dry but needs some protection - I didn't have anything with me sorry.
Otherwise a lovely day, a lovely spot - thanks very much!

Set out for a cycle ride from Eastbourne to Baring Head with the aim of finding the caches on the sea-side part of the route. We found the remnants of the cache book with only 2012 entries. There is no container or plastic bag left, just the remaining pages of a log book that seems to be surviving due to it's placement in the rock. Advise this cache be replaced.
Been to the lighthouse and then scrambled down from the farm to the coast track.
Cache is disintegrating with age and weather. Needs replacing, though contents dry.
Great site that has been lonely for nearly a year!

#256 on an ebike ride with the family to Baring Head, I stopped by Ship Rock while the boys went a bit further when lo and behold I spotted the cache out the corner of my eye! TFTC
Today I visited the Wainuiomata South Coast.
From here I started in northwest direction to Fitzroy Bay and then back on a higher level via Bearing Head.
At the end of the day I had 7 more on my map...
The box has broken and I must search the logbook, pen and other things around.
Thanks for the Cache and many greetings from Germany.

Down here on a group ride this morning. A bit of a fossick around before we chose the correct rock then required a long arm to retrieve the cache. Used some vegetation to make easier to reach but less visible. Thanks gonefishing.
Out for a ride around Eastbourne Coast to Baring Head lighthouse to place a cache nearby and decided to pick this one before heading home for the day. A lovely Southerly head wind on the way in but a wind-assisted cruise back to Lower Hut afterwards.
Found the cache easily but getting to it, even with my long arms, was a painful affair due to the shirt-ripping thorny protector plant (probably not the scientific name but maybe it should be). Eventually plunged my arm in, got the container and after a minute to free up my shirt from the prickles eventually signed the log.
Replaced it not quite so far in but still well hidden.

A beautiful day in Wellington but the fog has rolled in here so time to head back. TFTC!
Walked around to here after finding "Baring Head 4" cache. A few climbers on Ship rock and also back at the other climbing rocks. They seemed far too interested in what they were doing to take any notice of what we were doing. Quick find then headed along the beach and north to "The Crawler" cache. tftc
Found this granny during a nice walk along the coast [^] And the next cache is only some XXXm away?? Okay lets take the straight line up

#6640. Parked in East Harbour Regional Park entrance car park for a good circular walk on the Wainuiomata Coast. While the showers were heavy up the valley on Coast Road, the rain had stopped towards the coast. The Climbing Boulders en route were interesting. No one was around this popular spot this morning. GZ was all quiet. Quick find. The cache was in good condition. The log book was damp, but writeable. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.
Muggle friend who likes coming with me to see where we end up, decided that it was time to bike to Pencarrow Lighthouse, as she had never been there before. So off we set early in the morning on a fine Wellington Day and just over 29 kms later we finished -couldn't stop at Pencarrow as I had found those geocaches, so southish we headed -hence the number of kms we biked. Great views and an enjoyable ride. We went for a walk a bit further around the coast and enjoyed seeing the views, rock formations, the pounding surf and the realization that we weren't too far from the Wainuiomata Coast Road. TFTC.

Cache # 2,372 - This one has been on my radar for a long, long time. Took the opportunity for a nice day to head over the hill with Crystal Fairy, Astro Hunter, Violet Butterfly and MycroMan. One mile exactly from the car park (1.61Km). Very sunny and warm, but a ferocious wind. Sand in the eyes several times. Had been afraid of having to wade through water, but fortunately not. Lot of rock climbers out today. Cache was a quick find, less quick retrieval. Completely unable to write in log book it was so soaked, and someone had written a pretty nasty message in the middle - Crystal Fairy took a picture to post. TNLNSL. Nice to get this done. Worth a favourite point for the whole experience. TFTC!
Cache log book was completely soaked and unable to be written in. We deposited a blank sheet of paper that we signed but the cache needs a new book.
Did today with Astro Hunter, MycroMan, Crystal Fairy and The Wandering Dragons. Quite a long haul, but it was fun and different. Thanks.

The day was really nice except for the wind howling sand across our faces. We took the great trek across the beach to this cache with all the young geocachers. 1.6km is quite a walk for them and the 1.6km back was quicker but they had a good walk by the time we returned. We passed a number of walkers and absailers. Views were spectacular and Mycro Man loved climbing all the rock formations. Thanks for the cache. Did with MycroMan, Astro Hunter and Violet Butterfly
We attacked this one from the East Harbour Regional Park entrance, which is almost at the Wainui coast. We walked over the top of the hill and down the flat (thank goodness) road down to Ship Rock. All up it was almost 8kms, which is pretty impressive for me. A beautiful walk on a lovely warm (but windy) day. Thanks for bringing me here.
Found with Trina.
Nice wee hide, we should have walked from Wainui but we took our bikes quite a challenge and walk at times.
Very cool spot. Biking is definately the best way to get here especially when there is no wind! The cache was spotted after haveing a good look around the overhang, TFTC
On a still, sunny day with the river then the sea like glass we cycled from Melling around to the rocks at Baring head and found this cache on the way. Wellington on a good day - perfect. TFTC
Find # 1886. Intending to bike the trail round to Palliser Bay, discovered the bike had a flat tyre so opted to head over to Baring Head instead and collect a couple of caches missing from my collection. Came over the saddle and had a nearly 2km walk to reach this one, into a light southerly and with showers threatening. Quick find when I got there but had to be a bit of a contortionist to actually retrieve the cache. Nice and dry. Love the orange berry displays on the Matagouri - wonder what they taste like? SL TFTC
2nd ever cache, happy after two straight misses, few minutes to find, great spot. TFTC.
We came to this open via the Baring Head Park. It was a big bad windy day out this way today. Is Wellington having any summer weather this summer? We ask ourselves this question.
An interesting walk along the shore line and across the climbing boulders to get to this one.
We are confused by the signs that refer to private property. It would seem that if you come from the Eastbourne end along the Pencarrow Road that you are entering private property to access this area. That needs clarification.
Cache in order; log signed, safely re-hidden, just as found. TB retrieved.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

Have been waiting for the opportunity to get to this cache site for some time. Well worth the effort the views in this area on a good day are fantastic. Left TB Pebbles of Waikanae 6MEJXH to be with his rocky cousins.
This has been on my to-do-list for ages, finally got round here today. The weather was great and enjoyed the views of the South Island.

Got this one after standing from the top of the hill at the light house, then decided to climb down the cliff to get this cache, found a fairly easy way down to the bottom.
Long walk to this cache as I couldn't see an easy way from the lighthouse. Soon found the container. A good day out geocaching today.
Having just completed the trig and lighthouse caches it was to tempting not to attempt this one as well. Came from the lighthouse and down a small gully on to the N of the light via a sheep track to the beach below and then along to the Ship Rock. Ccahe quickly dealt with and now the long trek back to the car park. TFTC
We had got within 200m of ship rock when finding the cache by Baring Head lighthouse last year, but I wasn't keen on finding a way down the hillside (or even worse, climbing back up again).
We needed to return to the area after StreetWalker mistakenly pocketed the camo bag while doing the paperwork for the nearby Odyssey cache last weekend.
Parked in the Baring Head carpark and walked from there. The weather was dry but distinctly chilly, but this didn't bother us until the return journey when we had to walk into the brisk northerly. Apart from that it was a pleasant walk and the cache was an easy find in the obvious place. Despite the last find logged on-line in Sept 2011, there were a few in the logbook with 2012 dates.
Thanks for placing the cache, roaming kiwi, and to -gonefishing- for adopting, as it's a place worthy of a cache.

#3829. Bit of a climb up from the car park beside the Wainui River, but the tracks are easy walking all the way. Waves were not overly big, but still packed a decent punch against the rocks. A great area to explore. TFTC.
Ship Rock (Wellington) was transferred from roaming kiwi to user -gonefishing-
good walk out to the Ship Rock Jr taybee had to find and get this one cache was in good order Thank the the Walk out to here TFTC
Also got to this interesting place today and spent some time watching the impressive waves. Marine power technologies really make sense in NZ. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Was out and about with team gonefishing and Mrs Yeetrees, and I have being planning to get this cache for a while and have being wondering where the best approach to this cache was, having come out here to clean up a few caches at Baring head I realised that we were only about 200 metres from this cache, but there was only one obstacle, the steep cliff, both -gonefishing and I survey the area and found a likely spot and decided to go for it, wow that was fast down to GZ in less than 10 minutes. -gonefishing- managed to track down the cache within a few seconds and then we were on our way back up the cliff. Not quite sure which was the easiest going down or coming back up. Glad to finally knock this one off my list, thanks for placing this cache here, TFTC TNLNSL (3175)
The gonefishing tribe and the yeetrees were making a joint mtb assault on the new Baring Head reserve, so we made a beeline down the cliff from the lighthouse to find this cache. There are a few safe paths down, just need to choose carefully before you start! I've been meaning to come here for a while, so glad to have the opportunity to try a different approach.

My very first cache find. Nice little activity after a couple hours of rock climbing at Baring Head. Beautiful spot to hang out for the day. Log book is a bit damp and the zip lock bag doesn't seal anymore. TFTC
After completeing the new Baring Head series I attacked this from the Wainui River side. Quite a slog through deep soft sand on the mtb so after a while I abandoned the bike and carried on on foot. Good coordinates and an easy find. Cache is in fairly good order but the log is a touch damp. Thanks for bringing me here. TFTC
while staying at the motorcamp in Petone we came for a drive to the Wainuiomata South Coast.. fantastic drive on a fantastic sunny day.. found southern rock (GC2HHeQ) then walked down the beach to this cache.. fortunately it must've been low tide as the river mouth didn't quite reach the sea so no wet feet .. first time we've been down here and we're glad we did.. great place for a cache.. TFTC
This place is magnificent! I'd never been down this end before as I didn't want to cross the river but figured since I was down here I should. Brr, that water is cold! After a quick retrieval, I sat in the sun to dry out the logbook as it was pretty damp + added a marker just in case other people have trouble signing it when it's damp. TFTC and bringing me here.
We sent the man and boy to get this one, they were the only ones keen to cross the stream, they took shoes and socks and pants off crossed then got dressed again and off to get the cache, then same back again. Fun.
Had a fantastic walk out here on a sunny winter's day. Lee pointed the way with the GPS and I quickly made the find. Great spot, I really loved the rocky bit near the lighthouse.

Came in on bike from eastbourne. a nice stop for a rest. carried on further to the bearing head lighthouse. great ride. TFTC
I decided to leave the bike at home and do this one on foot from Eastbourne. The total journey was 30.5 kms according to my GPSr. It was very blustery but I somehow managed to convince myself that it was enjoyable. I must be fitter and lighter as a result. Thanks roaming kiwi.
Found during a break from bouldering nearby. What a spot! Nice views of the snow-capped Kaikouras in the morning; got a bit hazy later on. Thanks.
Another great Wellington day. I decided it was time to go and do some Caches on the eastern seaboard that have been on my to do list for a while now. After seeing roaming kiwi’s beautiful bike at yesterday’s event I felt inspired to go by bike. Got the ‘Diamond Back’ down off the rack, inflated the tyres, checked the brakes and we’re good to go. Left the Eastbourne road end and reached Ship Rock in 45 minutes despite my trepidation after rounding Pencarrow Head that I still had a long way to go. Sat and had some lunch and watched some rock climbers on the rock. Had no trouble finding the cache, signed the log book at 1250hr then headed back with a stop on the way to climb the hill to the Lighthouse and find GC5970. The total trip took 2.5 hrs and according to the trip metre I travelled 17.4k each way. This was my first serious outing on my bike for well over a year. Finished the day saddle sore but happy! Had a real blast, what a great outing, enjoyed it from start to finish. TNLN SL TFTC
Fantastic bit of coast on a warm autumn day. Geosprogs loved the rocks, although flagged a bit on the way back to the car.
I'm surprised more people don't visit this cache, it was quite a quick walk from the DOC carpark at the end of the South Wainuiomata road. It's less than 2km each way which should take less than hour all up including finding the cache, and there was no river crossing involved. The river flow is low at this time of year and if you schedule your walk to be within a couple of hours either side of low tide, the river just disappears into the shingle on the beach and you can walk through below this without encountering any water at all. A quick find at the cache site and cache in good condition. Lovely wild spot, calm sunny day and spectacular surf on the beach. Signed log, TFTC!

Decided to walk in from the Coast Road end, had to cross the river and took us a while to find the right spot. Yes, it was quite cold so probably wouldn't do this again in the winter! Found some mud which made it even more difficult. Harry the geodog doesn't like water so we had to pull him across reluctantly.
On the way back, J slipped in the river and got quite wet, so it was a cold walk back to the car, all the time wondering if the wet car remote would still work!
Took our daughter, who has been caching with us before, and her friend who hasn't - what an initiation! She said she doesn't want to do anymore if they aren't as adventurous as this one though.

One of my first caches in Wellington MTB around from the end of the road to do theses caches, nice ride apart from the short-cut I took on the way home, Go over the car wreck at the gate don't try and ride around it as I did sank up to my axles in the mud so had some very muddy feet for the trip back still the tail wind helped

Despite my big walk over to Whakanui today I figured I was still good for a few more k's today so headed down to the Wainui coast before going home. Pretty straight forward walk along the beach from the car park near the river and not as far as I thought it was going to be. And didn't even get my feet wet, the river just ends in a big pool without flowing across the beach to the sea. Not sure if it is always like this?
C'mon you Wellington lot, this cache needs more visits. Roaming Kiwi is doing a great job of maintaining it and it's not a hard one to get to.

The road out to the cache is a hell of a lot more interesting in the dark, you dont see the potholes till the last minute in the bike light, so managed to hit almost every one on the way there and back, yes i would be crazy enough to do it again;)

Just moved to Wellington from Auckland and was feeling the need to get back into Geocaching after several months break. The day was lovely so jumped on the 'ol bike and rode out (from Central Hutt) to find this cache. Fantastic ride and highly recommended to all.... I love Wellington! When I found the cache I noticed that the previous log mentioned something about the "northerleys" - didn't pay much attention at the time but was well and truly introduced to them on the way home... took me 3 x longer to get there!!
Great spot - left the Pencarrow lighthouse for the next trip.

Wow, a _First_ FTF!!! Biked out from Eastbourne to do this after work. Previously attempted from the Coast Rd side but the Wainui River was way to high to cross! Great ride out, evening was perfect - light northerly tail wind got me there in no time at all but turned out to be a cruel trick on the way back! Found cache no problems, great hiding spot, GPS was spot on. Awesome place for a cache - the south coast is just beautiful. This cache is a Wellington highlight I think and well and truely worth the effort to get out here! Round trip was 2 hours. Took "Take Kiwi to the Seaside" TB, Left Walrus and Carabiner (both seemed very appropriate!). Thanks for the cache Andy and enticing me to such a lovely spot!!!

ive done a lot of rockclimbing at baring head in the past and thought it'd be a great area for a cache.
this is only my second cache placement so let me know if ive given it the right difficulty rating.
Happy caching
