We were up here checking the place out after the big fires to see what was left.... well, not much really.
You can really see where the fire was at its hottest as there are places where nothing has grown back yet, while other places are starting to come back very well, but it's still weird to see the whole place so open.
So anyway, we rolled up here and found the ammo can was burnt to a crisp, so we replaced it with a PVC pipe cache with new log book and stuff until the foliage comes back so an ammo can can be hidden again.
On a lighter note, the track up to the summit on the Pinnibar side is getting quite exciting now, with a few cars in front of us having to winch themselves up the rock Step.

4WD rollercoaster!

Well definitely tested put the Triton on this track, and glad came well prepared here also with plenty of spare fuel and the like. Touched base with wife and son here whilst taking in the views. Location I'd love to revisit some day.

A short video of the trip including the track:

Day 3 of an epic 5-day roadtrip hiking and 4WDing between the Alpine and Kosciuszko National Parks with Jacko had us starting at Island Bend, hiking around Charlotte Pass and then travelling to Omeo via some 4WD backroads.

After a tricky climb to Mt Pinnibar we made our way to Mt Gibbo.
I also tried finding who Gibbo was. No result - it seems to be a D5 puzzle!

Again all went well with the drive until the last 200m, when the last little climb took 20 minutes to conquer. We sure earned the break at GZ.
Just 45 finds in 12 years shows just how tough this 'drive-by' cache is!

Thanks djcache.

Just catching up on some late logging following (apologises) a trip to the Victorian High Country with the Rats and a group of muggles. Thanks for adding to the fun filled week we had as part of our school holidays. How cold is it up here.
Thanks

Outside of caching the Rats love to go 4WDriving. With this in mind we combined our 2 favourite passions to spend a week exploring the Victorian High Country with some close friends. In a convoy of 7 vehicles we left the black-top at Tom Groggin (NSW) and we didn't see civilisation again for another 7 days when we finally popped out of the bush at Mansfield.
Our adventure saw us traversing the Billy Goats Bluff, The Blue Rag and soaring to the dizzy heights of Mt Stirling, Mt Pinnibar and The Pinnacles with the highlights being the amazing scenery and challenging tracks. Smile

While we didn't stop at every cache, we chose to find this one as it held some significance for us. We added tot he nearly rock trig.
Thanks

ON A 4 DAY TRIP STARTING AT CORRYONG AND VISITING GIBSON HUT, MT PINNIBAR, MT ANDERSON, MT GIBBO, TOM GROGGIN, DAVIES PLAIN HUT, MCKILLOPS BRIDGE, MT TINGARINGY AND THEN FINISH AT DELEGATE.
IT WAS AN UNBELIEVABLE TRIP WITH SOME GOB SMACKING VIEWS. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE TRIP TO ANYONE PROVIDING YOU HAVE A DESCENT 4WD VEHICLE AND 4WDING SKILLS.
OUR 3RD FIND FOR DAY 1.

#241 Found at 12.40pm. Great day for a drive after missing all the cars heading up to Mount Pinnebar. There were no people around this area either so the peace and quiet of the place together with the views was great. GeoPrincess made the find whilst sharing a joke with us which was "What has fingers but no liver and cannot move.........a glove"

Took: Frog Finger Puppet
Left: Green Fairy

TFTC & the views Smile

1046 Came across this track whilst heading for another tk that I thought the cache was on because of lousy maps that I have. I came across this track and read the last log. I put my trust in my stock standard patrol, my 4WD experience and djcache and headed up. Great track. Great views. Well worth the effort. Met a group of 4 vehicles just as I was heading down the track the other side but didn't stop as it was getting near dusk and I still had to find somewhere to camp the night. TFTC djcache

Later note - the people that I met as I was leaving stopped off at Moscow Villa to camp the next night. They were from the Geelong 4WD Club and we knew a lot of the same people from there. I'm glad they arrived as I was about to move off because there wasn't anyone else there and I was travelling solo. Most enjoyable night with them - a few bottles of red were shared and enjoyed.

Drove straight from Mt Pinnabar to Mt Gibbo for this cache. Nice views and enjoyed the drive along the Mt Gibbo Rd through the thick undergrowth of saplings, since grown from the 2003 fires. Got to love these cache containers, nice and big and would last forever.

Out - keyring compass
In - Kids finger paints
Signed Log,

Thanks.

What a fantastic view. Traveling across the ridges on our way to Pinnabar, with thunderstorms rolling across the next ridge across.

Thanks for the cache. TNLNSL.

No fire threat at this stage. I'll leave it online but check local track information with Parks Victoria if you are travelling into this area.

Did not see Gibbo today, but he sure some great views. We had a late lunch here and Dicko gave us another demo of mobile stove (by giving Emily a can of very warm spaghetti) and his famed Gas Match to get a nice warm fire going. Emily thought this was much better than being cold.
Our thanks to DJ and Dicko

I know Gibbo would have preferred a 4wd getting up here if he had one that's for sure! And one with a heater!!! It certainly was cold up here when we arrived in convoy 2 (thanks Dicko for getting us here in one piece around our friend from Team Thrify!)... Found the cache during HCPPP 2006 event

22-Apr-06
Who was gibbo we will never know but i know that we managed to find this cache without too much trouble, another great view from this hill looking back towards pinnibar and a lovely spot for a quick lunch and i mean quick it was pretty cold up there.

Took the glow stick left small toy.

Thanks DJ

OOPs logged the wrong one. Take two. This was another enjoyable drive with our guides Dicko and Little Miss Muggle. Arriving at the top to have some lunch we decided we needed a fire, Dicko put his now famous gas match to work and we were all enjoying the warmth in no time. Again, being tail end charlie and helping with the wood for the fire by the time we arrived at GZ all that was left to do was to sign the log book and take a few more photos of this magnificent location.
Thanks again djcache

Again the ploy to gain a front running place for this cache was thawted and the Hilux arrived at the back of the convoy. With GPS in hand we again made our way to the cache and with views that Gibbo enjoyed we signed the log book.
Damm another Rhinogeo first, and well deserved.
After the cache was replaced we headed back to the vehicles and had lunch with views all round.
Many thanks again DJ for another cache with a journey and a story to remember.

The 2nd cache for the day and just made it with a little light to spare. Thankfully the weather held out too or we may not have been able to get close. Top view AGAIN and great photo area.
Took a bear finger puppet & left a slinky toy
Thanks djcache, you really know the good spots up here.

Another cache for the day trip, stopped off for lunch. Dicko soon warmed us up with his fire starting gadget("have to get me one of them")

Found by Mary & David at about 1520 with the second HCPPP convoy. After all the dramas of the Pinnabar ascent, the next leg to My Gibbo was relatively easy and uneventful. We even had a small campfire to huddle around while we enjoyed a late lunch break and more spectacular alpine views. TNLN. Our thanks again to djcache.

Spectacular views from here~!!!

It's a little chilly this time of year, but the 4WD to get here affords some of the most spectacular views of the High Country

Found on 22/04/06 @ 1352 AEST. WOO-HOO Cool my 36th FTF Cool!! Second cache for the day in windy and (very) cool conditions, this cache entailed less digging through snow than the one on Mt Pinnabar Wink.

Another fantastic cache on a long weeknd of geocaching camaraderie for the HCPPP Event Smile

I'm still not sure who the Gibbo was that lent his name to this place. A really nice trig point.
