Found with stairman1. We are staying in Orford for a few days, recovering from the 3 Capes. This gave our legs a good stretch out. What a fascinating area. Love it .
Found with goldielover today. We are staying nearby so a vist was mandatory. Enjoyed the walk in.Checked out the old road that would have been some contract back then.Tftc
A great way to start our geocaching day with a lovely stroll along the riverside that Benji the geopoodle enjoyed very much. A very cool start to the day though with crunchy ice coated leaves inder foot and Mrs TiedyeSmileys looking wistfully across the river to the sunshine on the other side.TFTC
After walking to Stapleton Beach this morning we took a more leisurely walk along to here this afternoon. Ive known about this road for a long time but this is my first walk along the Convict Road.
Yay, Found it !
Spending a couple of days in Orford.
A leisurely start, complete with bacon and eggs for breakfast, then it's off for a walk, across the main bridge and TL onto the old Convict Road.
Had to navigate upstream to find a suitable crossing, Mrs EeePees choosing to wait.
The track is quite wet after the recent rains - but I was soon at GZ.
The outer container is well weathered but is certainly doing its job - everything within us nice and dry. Adding to my favourites.
Thanks Swampy, for the cache and the adventure - and for bringing me here.
Cheers, EPs.

There is a lot of ants and the thing is very old but it’s awesome and cool but it’s easy on the route at fist then it get very hard overall great
Dragged the teenagers out to do this one. They loved it, especially the water crossing and when one found a leach in their boot! fascinating walk we’ve been meaning to do for a longtime.thanks for bringing us here tftc
If I happened to have a favourite geocaching wish list, this cache would tick many boxes: unexpected track, easy to follow allowing my wondering mind to enjoy instead of being in constant survival mode trying to remember how on earth I would find my way back, beautiful views, nice cache (in good order but tree mentioned in hint is missing). Just a perfect cache to start my weekend in Bicheno. Thanks heaps!
This is what geocaching is all about - taking you to interesting and unexpected spots and finding a decent sized cache at the end. It’s been some time since this has been my experience, so it was great to find this historic cache that dates back to just before I started caching. Definitely a favourite point from me. TFTC.
Now to how I got here… we were staying just up the road from here and passed by the big road sign when walking back from the nearby parkrun earlier in the day. There was a little information about the “road” in our hotel guest book too, so I decided to check it out later in the day, but I got lazy and ended up reading my book until it was time to get us some dinner. The Tealby B Team was off playing golf and I was planning to get us a couple of wood fired pizzas, but there was none left for me to order, despite getting there almost an hour before the designated closing time . I was left with the only option to scrounge something from the IGA and there was definitely lean pickings and ended up with suimin noodles, which was less than inspiring after expecting to have a nice pizza. However, it left me with plenty of time to explore the convict road on the way back, albeit with a bag of shopping in hand! Along the way I had the thought that there just might be a cache in the area and I was not disappointed - and it gave me the added bonus of knowing how far I still had to walk. I definitely wasn’t dressed for this unexpected detour, and the “road” was much rougher than expected, but I am definitely glad that I made the journey, especially with the bonus cache to find.

A lovely walk along the river, some interesting relics and rocks, and I love these container types, TFTC Swampy
I really wanted this one, so i parked the GeoMobile just in front of a huge bus and made my way along the 1.4km walk, but ran into a school excursion with about 30 excited kids whom were being educated about this trail whilst they all fed their faces lol.
The lovely woman teacher had a laugh as she said "They were hungry, so they had to be fed"... it was a funny moment
At GZ the hide was discovered immediately and i was all smiles at yet another "Awesome Container" that always has dry contents.
A Favorite Point is offered here for this one's Age / Container and that Awesome old Convict Trail walk I loved every bit of it [^]

It's infront of a dead tree...but how FAR infront of a dead tree is the question lol love it
So nice to see such a lovely clean cache despite its age. I think a cache within a cache is the way to go in Tassie. There has been some spot burning in area. I think the tree mentioned in hint is gone but co-ords are accurate. Easy find after nice river walk. Found, stamped and replaced, with Maggie and Mollie, my GeoWesties, while roaming around Tasmania with our motorhome “Mylittlebus” looking for content for our TASMANIA ALL OVER facebook. Join us there. Thanks for placing this cache (and others), keeping us on our exploring toes.
After a hectic two days completing the 105 caches and logs on the Tassie Tigers Snake Series, we are taking things a little bit easier today. This is our only cache for the day. Thanks for the walk along this old convict built road, one which I have always been interested in over many years but never got to explore. looks like a bit of new activity and maybe interpretation is taking shape at the former convict station. TFTC Swampy.
While completing the TTSS series thought we would find this cache as my car over heated so while it cooled down I took this walk.
Such a nice walk l, found cache in a nice stop.
Thanks for the cache.

A great cache which I made a point of going for on my stay Orford. Found four others - I recommend caches at Spring Beach Cliff tops too. Thx for this great walk and cache
It was a very chilly walk down the track. After locating the cache which was in sturdy containers, we had a poke around the ruins. Thanks for taking us there.
Making our way down to Hobart from Swansea on our grand tour of Tasmania. Stopped here for a walk to stretch our legs and mark progress with another smiley. TFTC
For a month or so now we've been meaning to make a trip up the east coast to Orford to make a start on the Tasmanian Tiger Snake geoart, being as it hadn't been published last time we were in the area. Today ended up being the day, and between finding 18 caches in the series and another handful of caches elsewhere, we ended up setting a new team record of 25 caches in one day!
This was our first cache of the day. Last time we'd passed through we'd had to give this one a miss as we had several small children in tow. This time it was just us, and Little Miss Nataliec1234 was nearly a year older, so we figured we'd be able to have a crack at it this time.
What a lovely walk it is! We loved the peaceful atmosphere as we made our way upstream, and the ever-changing scenery along the way. And the area around GZ was quite interesting too!
Despite a group of muggles wandering through the area as we were looking for the cache, we soon had it hand with the passersby none the wiser, and before long we were enjoying the leisurely stroll back to the car.
Thanks for a good cache in a really interesting spot!

Great geocache container and a great location, all very interesting history. Definitely worth a favorite! Thank you Swampy for this fab cache!
Today we decided to take a drive to pick up the last few caches around the Orford area including a recently added hide on the riverbank and also pick up 63Roos' relatively new caches at Buckland. We have decided to keep Rheban Beach and the TTSS series for another day - can't wait actually. We ended up with nine caches for the day and thoroughly enjoyed the walks along Spring Beach and this was the highlight of the day a 1.4km wander along the Old Convict Road. Parked near the trailhead and really enjoyed the wander along the road next to the pipeline. It was dry and an easy walk today with pretty of views looking down and across the river. Having reached GZ it was an easy find and a very well protected large cache was found safe and well. A couple of swaps for the kids which is always good after they have walked for a while. Not really sure what the buildings may have been, perhps where the convicts were housed overnight. The bluestone road is in wonderful shape and you should probably wear a good pair of walking shoes with heavy soles so the rocks don't penetrate. We did thank goodness. FP loved the history and the cache.
Loved this cache. A beautiful walk and a very interesting location! One of those special spots that we would never have visited had it not been for caching. FP awarded, TFTC!

Staying at the caravan park at Orford for a few days. We rode our bikes to the beginning of this walk. Decided it was best to leave the bikes secured to the post at the trailhead and walk into the ruins.
Great spot for a cache.
Thanks for bringing us here

TaurusSix and I enjoyed a pleasant walk to this cache. The recent rain has saturated part of the path.
out and about with 1 Rafa caching for fun, this was on the list, a great weekend with good company this was an epic walk for me. first time to this area amazing that people survive in this wilderness miles from anywhere but we are here from their hard work, wow days from help and civilization is Hobart great place to ponder what they went through. TFTC TNBPNL. log dry thanks for the replacement log cache and ammo box. in excellent condition.
Got up a couple hours before the family to do some more nice caches in the area that I had set my eyes and heart on before we left town.
This was the first one I really wanted to do. A great walk along the old road, which went mich faster than expected and a final place with all the ruins made for great early morning adventure. Not much wildlife on the way. A couple of green rosellas though. Cache is in good condition.
Thank you Swampy for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Tassie Trip Day122 - Today saw us take a nice drive along the coast to see a few different aspects to the area and along the way we collected a couple of caches.
After making my way in to the locaiton and wondering about the history and how busy thie locaiton would have been in the day it was an easy find and the log signed and returned to the place it was placed.
Thanks Swampy for bring us here to see some very interesting history and an interesting walk along the river to get there.

A couple of days in the Triabunna to Orford area with grandma, Cat and Loz. This so that Cat could spend some time with her beau (or is that Boo). This cache has been on the radar for a while now and have driven past many a time. Today, however, was the day with an hour to myself. Thoroughly enjoyed the trek in along the old road taking in the sights and sounds. Near GZ appreciated the ruins and the energy, hardship and sacrifice no doubt invested in their construction. Will have to do some googling to learn a little more of the local convict history. Great hide and excellent container.. thanks..!!
Two of these Convict Stations in as many Weeks, Lots of history here. nice spot TFTC.
After a great Christmas morning with the grandkids we headed to Orford to pick up a few caches and this was one we found. It was a lovely walk to GZ and we enjoyed our look around the rubble. Thanks for bringing us here as without geocaching we wouldn't have known about this area as no information boards at start, along the way or at the site. Deserves a favourite. TFTC. Merry Christmas
Wow what an amazing jumble of ruins. Will have to research what they were- I’m scratching head.
Good walk, couple of injuries on the way but all in all a good time. With Swampy and ToolBoxTas
I have to explain why I am enabling this cache.
The cache has been replaced. I don't know why this website can't work it out from the owner maintenance log.....

Finally got around to doing some logging. Travelling around in Tasmania and grabbing some caches along the way.
Every time we've driven through Orford in the last couple of years, I have remarked "we need to do that bloody convict cache". That won't happen anymore, it's done!
Chipping away at my calendar has been a bit painful but today we planned to do 'that bloody convict cache' and I was pleased. SSR picked me up about 10am, arriving with coffees for all. We took off shortly after and this cache was to be our first stop. As we neared Thumbs Creek, he told me to work out where we needed to stop. I looked at him with a WTF kinda face and said "Orford". He went on the explain he parked along the gorge and rock hopped over the river. Well, I had planned a nice stroll along the old convict road. Wasn't that what it was all about? So that's what we did. SSR can now say he's been to the cache both ways.
There was beautiful sunshine on the highway side of the river, but not on our side. It was cold and dark in the shade but we soon warmed up. In fact, I was literally steaming by the time we arrived at the ruins. I was a little disappointed, the ruins were ruined. That is to say, I was expecting to see more obvious signs of old buildings. Maybe not quite as extensive as Port Arthur but something a bit more substantial. I had built it up in my head after all these years.
Anyway we found the cool cache (my favourite type) in its safe cubby hole pretty quickly and I signed the newish logbook. We were very shocked to find a razor blade in the container. I would hate to think what would have happened if my kids were sweeping their hands through the contents as they tend to do. SSR jammed it in a stick and carried it out to dispose of safely.
After the find, we explored the ruins some more. I found a good recognizable piece of wall so was content. The walk out was enjoyable as we followed a dry creekbed out to the edge of the river to enjoy the views and a bit of sunshine.
Thanks swampy. A good cache, done and dusted, FINALLY!

A pleasant walk in the winter sun with the COTE. An impressive effort to build this road, by hand! The rock work to fill some of the dips and hollows is great, and still there after all these years. I love these cache containers that are bullet proof.... TNSL, left my card and a toy car to add to the contents. TFTC Swampy
Really cool location with the ruins. Follow your phone compass otherwise it is very hard to find. A cool, new container
