Quick find on a chilly morning visit to the organ pipes. Thanks for placing

26-Oct-24
An early morning walk in the rain. Thankfully a quick find. Thanks

16-Oct-24
I dropped off a TB I brought back from Western Australia recently. The cache is in good condition. My phone GOS out its hidey hole at 4m from the indicated GZ. So within the margin of measurement error. Use the hint to find it; the hint object is amongst the Neopanax on the Blueskin Bay side of the track.

25-Apr-24
Took a bit of a search, to be expected for a cache not logged for a year. Worth the trip on a beautiful ANZAC Day.

05-Jan-24
Grrr. Drove myself crazy with this one, looking in larger and larger radius. Cool spot, good excuse to come back next time Im coming past

20-Apr-23
We came to explore Mount Cargill today and this cache was on the want list. We had periods of full mist and saw nothing then cleared repeat. Had a lot of fun trying to find this as many many hint objects. Didn't help we spent most of our time searching the wrong side of track lol. Sat and had a coffee and biscuit then continued our search. Mrs C found this one with great joy. Log happily signed. Now oh boy the journey back begins. Thanks for this cache Mcroni.

14-Mar-23
Haven't been up here for 5 years, remember my first trip well as I was looking after my grand daughters and little Chloe was a new born baby. I had to carry her to the old cache I had came up here for so that was all the caching we did up here that day. Lovely to come again and enjoy the views and also to find a couple more caches. This took a little searching but of course was in the first place I had looked , but over looked it . climbed back down for another try and found it quickly.

25-Jun-22
Found after searching under several hint objects

10-Oct-21
Took a while to find this one. Coords good but looking on wrong side. Had to wait for a muggle family to leave. Did have a nice chat with a woman who walks up to control the gorse. Stunning views.

16-May-21
Be warned the rocks up here can be slippery. Ended up on my butt in quick style near GZ. Was amazed by the view. This tor is different but absolutely as dramatic as the organ pipes.

Haven’t ever done this section of the track (between Organ Pipes and Mt Cargill. Beautiful!

13-Mar-21
Great walk, excellent view. The cache is not in a dangerous spot, keep away from the steep drop on the town side. The compass was off, so it took us about 10mins to find. Found with Kerynz. TFTC!

12-Mar-21
Was a stunning day and a perfect spot for some fantastic views. Joined by 1/2 of Frame Family. Took a while to find but didn’t want to leave without signing the log.

12-Feb-21
Took me an embarrassing long time to find! Not at the “obvious” spot I thought. TFTC! Dropped off geocoin.

26-Aug-20
Dropping off Jiminy Cricket to enjoy the view of Dunedin for a while. Also taking Cumbyrocks' GeoGem here as a record of its return to Dunedin!

Nothing in the logbook from Nalance... oh, managed to get all this way while on a visit from a cruise ship and "forgot" his pen eh? Looks to me like the same sort of fake logging as a chap on a tour who decided to log my Royal Oak multi as a find, because he was walking past the start icon and likes t have a cache logged in every town as a record of his visit...

Just passing by here with Debsnz and dropping off the trackable.

06-Mar-20
Headed for this from the cruise ship. Found based on hints in activity log. Forgot my pen though.

06-Oct-19
Found, but only just. The coordinates were a bit off. Nevertheless TFTC

06-Oct-19
Found after quite a search! Lovely day for it but I must admit, the clue wasn’t all that helpful as there are lots of flat rocks and the coordinates were slightly out so it was found perhaps more by chance. Still, a great opportunity to discover a new place, thanks for bringing us here!

01-May-19
Sunny at shame about the drone

26-Apr-19
#17107. It was a bit of clamber up and over this knob, going up a track that seems to have fallen into dis-use, and down the proper track. TFTC.

26-Apr-19
Found with StreetWalkerNZ and KiwiChris while on a mission to find the Mt Cargill cache, the last remaining cache needed for the SI old school challenge.
A bit scarey for this height aversion cacher, but made it to GZ. While SW was searching elsewhere, I found the hint object, but couldn't find the cache. Decided to approach from another (lower) angle, and there was the cache. Great to find another older cache, have found of few of yours in this past week or so. Thanks Mcroni.

09-Feb-19
Great day for a walk - grand views

Still can't find it

15-Jul-18
I chose this stormy day to visit some of the oldest Caches in New Zealand. At noon time I started to drive to Mount Cargill and later in the afternoon to Flagstaff Hill. After that I did some more Caches down in Dunedin. Even if the weather was not the best I enjoyed so many good Caches out in nature!
Another find at Mount Cargill. Interesting place, unfortunately the view was not good. Found it quick, nice spot!
Thanks for hiding!

The next phase in the [Rambler's Reward](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2XBA7_ramblers-reward-challenge-cache-dunedin-otago) took me on a long loop, starting and ending in Dalmore. Up the Pine Hill, over Campbells Road, down Watts Road. Then north, north he said! Onto Norwood Street and into Bethunes Gully. Then up, up he said! Left at the top, and up Butters Peak.

After a brief intermission, the ramble continued. Down Butters Peak, and up the other end to the summit of Signal Hill. From there, that long, long walk down Cowans Road, taking a left onto Pine Hill Road, and aaaall the way back to Dalmore again.

"Why", I hear you ask? The answer is simple: I wished to find one single cache. Just one. Not the [Campbells](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC28HMB_campbells-are-cunning-dunedin-otago) , that lot is too cunning for me. And [nothing's up](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2G6DM_watts-up-dunedin-otago) yet either. Nor any of the plethora along Clingford Park, Forrester Park or up along the Gully.

Nay, I simply went to [scratch a nose](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCTV3K_by-a-nose-otago). Quite succesfully, I might add.

17-May-18
Surprisingly not windy at all. Getting quite cloudy though but still warm enough. Found on the way back from the organ pipes since some muggle was heading up here on my way down. TFTC

22-Apr-18
Windy up here but the cache showed me a good repaired place! Tftc

07-Apr-18
Last find of the day with Trailrunner01. TFTC

Wind was up and chilly on the clear day we climbed Mt Cargill. Good photo opportunity - but only after finding the cache! Found with jecissa01.

Nice cache, fantastic spot with the view and rocks.

I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide. Already back in Norway I realized that I would love Dunedin, looking at the different hiking-challenges in the area and all the old caches. Unfortunately I am getting close to the end of my travels, so I don't have as much time as I hoped for. I was originally planning to have 2 full days here, but quickly realized that it wasn't enough. I managed to squeeze in 2 more days, skipping some other plans I had, which I don't regret. I had an amazing time in Dunedin, doing lots of hiking and the weather was good all the time. Dunedin truly is a geocachers paradise.

This was my last day in Dunedin, and I managed to find lots of nice caches and hikes. I started my day walking up to the Organ Pipes and Butters Peak. I then headed to Signal Hill, before I finished off with the Powderkeg-challenge. I even had time to drive to Spit Beach to do the challenge there, and I was lucky to see penguins and sealions. A great end of my time in Dunedin. I will be back, and then I will spend more time here.

About this cache:
Awesome views up here. I was lucky and found the cache at the first place I searched. Tftc

02-Jan-18
Today I decided it would be nice to go for a walk up Mt Cargill. It took me around an hour to get to the top and then I thought I might head over here for the cache. I've never been up Buttars peak before and I was glad it was a beautiful day so that I could enjoy the view. Thanks Smile

29-Oct-17
While Jo was at a graduation reunion Joe and the dog took the chance to have a walk over Mt Cargill and down the Leith Valley. Easily found, thanks.

Nice easy find on our walk down, TFTC Smile

10-Sep-17
With BCD on a geocaching mission and after finding the one on his list we headed up to the transmitter to find the caches in the area. Not much of a view today with fog all around but this was our last one and it had cleared a bit but started to snow instead and by the time we were halfway down it had become quite heavy!
Arrived to the spot where we had to make our ascent and after our previous scrambles of the day this was somewhat easier. Soon at GZ and after a short search cache was soon in hand. Took TB. TFTC

This is the ninth and final cache for #7 (the final Ramble so it needed to be extra special) for "Ramblers Reward Challenge Cache" GC2XBA7 (a continuation of our morning Ramble but now on the other side of the Harbour)

Caching in a blizzard with kjr always good fun. Headed down the track after nabbing the ones at the top on nice easy climb to the top. Were k came up with the goods after a quick search tftc

29-Jan-17
Interesting at the top: the wind was so strong that the little whistle on my pack strap was blowing itself. Of course I had to take the hard way over the top of the rock, clinging on to stop myself getting blown off it (found the path on the way back) and investigated several likely hint objects until the right one was found. Excellent fun. Dropped off TB.

#8532, 13:07,
During our holidays in Newzealand we searched some Caches.
At GZ we first are looking on the wrong side of the nose. Finally we were successful.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this box

Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand. Cool

We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]

For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches. Wink

Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun. Big Grin

After visiting Mount Cargill we hiked on to visit this nice cache. We searched a while, but finally we found it.

Thank You very much for this geocache, for the challenge and for the maintaining.

Greetings from tripleclaus to Mcroni. Smile

Discovered this one as a group with eilisrose, Hevic, MrPig, Cj-Curry, and cjsheridan. Decided to tramp up Mt. Cargill which I found was a bad idea.

So we took a while to find this one due to discouraging team members from climbing out onto the precarious ledges. They got some good photos and we got some good heart attacks. Oh, and then we found a cleverly-hidden cache!

06-Nov-16
Found on a big day out with Cj-Curry, eilisrose, MrPig, safetykat, and cjsheridan

thanks for the cache!

06-Nov-16
When eilisrose suggested a trek up Mt. Cargill before leaving Dunedin, I jumped on the opportunity and planned a day out. So the two of us, plus Hevic, MrPig, safetykat, and cjsheridan went on a hike around from Sawyers Bay to Bethunes Gully taking in as many of the sights as we could before the rain decided to spoil our afternoon.

It took us a little while to find this cache, partially because our twentysomething selves decided to have a bit of fun exploring the mini-peak and taking some rather daring photos. We got down to business in the end, and I managed to find it in a spot I'd previously overlooked (as I tend to do). Cheers!

12-Jul-16
Ninalila and I enjoyed a sunny day to visit Mount Cargill and the amazing lookout over the city and around.
The views were awesome and we enjoyed the afternoon to walk until the organ pipe and search some boxes.

Incredible to see how big is the town and how small is the peninsula Smile
We could even the the Alps with coulds around.

We made a detour to search and find this one. It worth it because the view is really nice even if it is windy Smile

We signed the logbook with our team name : lekiprokos

Thank you for the cache and the discovery

12-Jul-16
Fefe.adrien and I walked during the sunny afternoon between the Mount Cargill and Holmes. It was the opportunity to find some boxes on the way.

Despite the terrain 4 this one was quite easy to get. The view at the summit is awesome! Then we continued to the Organ Pipes.

We signed on the logbook with our team name: Lekiprokos

Tftc Smile

Easily the most rewarding cache on our visit to The Carg! Spectacular views, exercise, and a well-hidden box = a favourite tick...TFTC!

11-Feb-16
Spent far too long looking for this. Had a final look and there it was. Had sort of looked in the same place a few times. Had been up here before Christmas but there were a group of guys arrived to look at the view so no searching done then. Picked up a trackable.

18-Nov-15
Out on a walk from the Organ pipes to Bethunes Gully. Body language from a previous finder with us helped to speed up the search. All nice and dry inside.

18-Nov-15
Out for a walk fvia the Organ Pipes and down to Bethunes Gulley. We had a bit of assistance here by reading the body language of a previous finder. All nice and dry inside.

18-Nov-15
While out for a walk from with our walking group there was some debate about walking up to this one. But with i-got-it and daywalk we set off while the other had a cuppa. Once on the top what great views until it began to hail so cache was quickly found and it was a scramble back down again. Thanks for the cache in a great place.

29-May-15
Found it on an awesome DND day! Shame I almost tore groin after doing epic splits on icy rocks!! Yikes! Smile

19-Apr-15
Couldn't find this cache and was doubing my GPS, I pulled out the phone, given direct line of sight to Mt Cargill and the mobile towers. But alas, there didn't seem to be much human evidence (tracks or disturbed bush) where the cache was located. With a little bush bashing there was still no cache to be found.

Next time!

18-Apr-15
While JRB5050 was trying to zero in on the cache, I wandered ahead and saw what I thought would be a great spot for a cache and there it wasBig Grin TFTC

18-Apr-15
I'd been close to this one before on a hot day, but decided not to make the short climb. Today it certainly wasn't hot, but the clouds did lift for a few minutes to give us amazing views; which made me wish I'd come up to the top the last time I was here. If the wind hadn't been quite so strong it would have been a perfect place to sit down for a cuppa. As it was, we scrambled quickly back down the rocks and took a quick break hunkered down in the bush before descending past Organ Pipes to the road. Found with PC Sniff after walking Cloud Forests of the Leith from Leith Saddle. Thanks for placing this cache. It gets a favourite from me for the wonderful views. I've vowed to be back with a picnic lunch to do some more exploring.

01-Apr-15
We had to search for this box a while before it showed itself. Great views!

Spent the day geocaching up on Mount Cargill and on the trail to Organ pipes. The weather was fantastic and the views extraordinary over the Otago Peninsula and the Dunedin area. Since we had two kids joining us the pace of the walk was just perfect. We really got to experience some pure New Zealand tramping.

After the tramp we went picking up my cousin at the university and we got to visit Signal Hill and the centennial memorial.

T4TC!

//T@bibito, visiting from Sweden.

Wow just been to the top with kids then decided to do this one on way down, left them at base sore tired legs and climbed up myself cache soon in hand with spectacular views. A favourite from me. TFTC

13-Jun-14
Found this one with two friends after a long day Geocaching that took us through North East Valley, up Mount Cargill and down again via Mount Cargill Road and the Leith Valley. We found 16 caches on our 7 hour walk with no DNFs (although we were about to give up on a few). TFTC!!

We had long lunch break on the top. Sunny and almost no wind! The cache is dry and safe. Lovely view from there.

06-Mar-14
Found this one on my way from Mt Cargill to the Organ Pipes. It was so cloudy I couldn't even see the TV transmitter on Mt Cargill. Nevertheless, thank you for showing this place.

Struggled to find it this time in heavy mist and strong winds.....will return and finish!

31-Jul-13
We hiked up this morning past the organ pipes and on to the peak. On the way down we had to stop in here for this cache and the great views! Thanks for the great cache - love all the fun and challenging caches around here!

27-Apr-13
Checked quite a few potential hint candidates before finding the cache. Awesome!

13-Mar-13
The only place I see any muggles on the track today, and they just happened to be sitting near where I want to be! Oh well it is a nice spot to sit and admire the view . . . . and then sit a bit longer until eventually muggles move on and after a bit of fossicking was able to grab the smiley.

06-Feb-13
Hand to scrabble around a bit before we found it. Lovely views from up here.

TFTC!

22-Jan-13
Done this walk many times in the past, great views. Typical though, the day we decide to find the cache it's low cloud and can't see a thing.

TFTC

20-Jan-13
Was here about 6 months ago along with hordes of muggle activity, so didn't find it then. No muggles today so me and GPS went straight to it and found within 5 seconds...neat. TNLN. HOTA

12-Jan-13
Found with KiwiRanger -Stunning views, have looked up here from town and always wanted to explore! Clue and description were great, didn't need to use GPS.

18-Dec-12
Great cache, crap weather

05-Dec-12
Dragged Lady Muggle out for a walk after work. Great spot and with panoramic views. Cheers

23-Oct-12
Great cache. SmileLike coming up here and now that I am geocaching, I just had to come back and see were the cache was. Good walk for the dogs but they are no help when it comes to searching. In fact they seem a little confused as to why I kept stopping and looking under rocks etc.
Then it started to hail,[v] took shelter behind the nose. #15

21-Oct-12
This was another of those "MUST FIND" caches, that Tufty and I each needed for the Powder Keg Challenge. Going down those steps at the back of Mt Cargill was easy but words were muttered on the return. Cache was a quick find. Thanks for the cache.

21-Oct-12
At the moment the track from Bethunes Gulley is closed for maintenance due to a slip. Though this did not worry BaldEd and I as we came in from Mt Cargill. Don't you just love all those steps. As we approached the top from one direction it was not obvious of what was just over the top. So we gingerly got there and found it to be OK.

Cheers for the cache.

20-Oct-12
I know that Roo hates rocks (more a forest kanga than a rock wallaby) but the SamWalkers love a scramble.
We were concerned about the possibilities of elevation but we mad an easy find and turned back.
I would have loved to push on for the next few caches but the numbers call.
It is all about the Mega.

SamWalkers caching with Mr Roo on the way to NZ Mega.

20-Oct-12
Found with Sam walkers while visiting during the Mega period. What a great cache and thought wow not many have found this during the mega event. A great view and wasnt to hard for someone who hate rocks TFTC Mcroni

07-Oct-12
A successful return visit to look for this elusive cache. With the help of Dakotacats I finally signed along the dotted line ! And the view was outstanding.

07-Oct-12
The dakotacats had no trouble finding this one - geocaching common sense prevailed and sure enough there it was. Fluffyduck on the other hand was heading off down a cliff!! A beautiful view from up here, first time I have been here as well. TFTC

26-Aug-12
No luck with this one today, but will be back

04-Jun-12
Will be back - when there are fewer muggles around.... HOTA
