Amazing view

14-Jan-24
Out and about in the hills with DazRascal and Wackyweedos taking advantage of all of the teams having annual leave at the same time! Wackyweedos headed home after a big day and we continued on the tracks on the dirt bikes. Daz had logged this one years ago but was happy to go and grab it with us again today. The views were super and even though we were hot, tired and very dusty we are glad we made the trip! Thanks Djcache for a cool cache in a top spot! Cheers

02-Jan-24
Awesome view from here. It took a while to climb up mt pinnibar we had to get the winch out as we got stuck in a big rut, the track isn't it the best condition but it was fun. Tftc!

10-Jun-23
Found this cache while driving around the area for the kings birthday long weekend with my Son and a friend.Weather for the weekend was very cold but they were nice days.Found this one in the snow. Had to dig a little to find it. Hands very cold.

02-Jan-23
We travelled here from Gibson's hut, along some very disused trails. We got to the end of Dubstans Logging Rd and a sign told us that Mt Pinabar track was eroded in places, and could be dangerous, if not unpassable. Not knowing exactly where this was, as we were still a long way, we decided to backtrack, as it was quite late as well. We will need to come back another time Sad

04-Dec-22
First time up here since the fires and the COVID thing. TFTC

20-Mar-22
Great place and brilliant views. Steep but.
We had seriously good fun getting up here. And only a bit of grief for one of our group on the way down again Wink

Thanks skullracing for placing the replacement {:)]

Brad&Janet are on a journey to the Victorian High Country for the second time in two years. This time was are dragging the house on two wheels aka the camper trailer.

We are doing some exploration on our own as well as a seven day guided tour through some of the more remote and tricky areas of the Victorian High Country and the Alpine National Park. This trip has been from Corryong and winds its way through to finish in Mansfield.
Overnight stops have been
Tom Groggin
Nunninong Plains
Dargo High Plains
Wonnogatta x 2
Lovicks Hut

There has been some serious 4WDing on some pretty gnarly (for us) tracks. When we get hgome we will need to replace two tyres, repair/replace our camper trailer jockey wheel and respool our winch. Heals of fun has been had.

We found a few caches and we even hid a couple along the way. Of course it is always challenging to find caches when you are traveling with a group of non-cachers on a tight time line.

We having been looking forward to this trip for some time

11-Feb-22
Searched around every tree and rock. Will have to come back another day as I ran out of time(unless it’s gone)

22-Jan-22
Found it

21-May-21
We took advantage of the fantastic weather and decided to whizz up this way to check on the place after the fires to see what was left...
Not much really.
All three huts are completely gone, and just about every tree up here is burnt, and they are frantically logging all the burnt timber before it goes off.
We rocked up to the summit with cleats views of all the snow at Kosciusko and back to Bogong, so the cameras came out for some shots.
I wandered down to the cache and found what was left of it lying near it's totally burnt host, like every other tree, so I replaced it with a new 90mm PVC cache and log book and stuff to keep it going until we get some new ammo cans.
Cheers

02-Apr-21
Tried to find this one during a stopover at Mt Pinnibar during a trip around the high country, after about 15 minutes worth of looking around in various bushes I decided to call it quits.

It's either very well hidden or it's unfortunately not there anymore, definitely intending to head back up to the high country at some point soon, will give it another crack then.

01-Jun-19
Came up 4wding on the last weekend it was open before winter, however the snow proved difficult to navigate and unfortunately didn’t get the find. Will have to come back up in the summer.

17-May-19
Awesome Cache. Beautiful view. Weren't even looking for a Cache but checked anyway. Cords nearly spot on.

31-Dec-18
Another visit three years later. GreT views from here and nice to watch someone else find the cache.

31-Dec-18
Absolutely a pinnacle. The track, snowgums and distant vistas changed every metre to award the geocachers in the party. Cache spot on coords. Love an ammo in the bush.

Thanks djcache and clear skies from TeamAstro. ️ Cache the planet!

12-Nov-18
Myself and Pacman had left Kozi after a decent morning hike out to Blue Lake, had crossed thr Murray at Tom Groggin, which was surprisingly low. I had planned the route the week before with Parks. Tom Groggin track to Omeo. Recently graded. Easy.
Then we saw the sign to Pinnabar. Not even that big of a detour! Worst comes to worst we turn back. So turn right we did and no regrets were had.
Gradual incline through bush turned to steep climb through mountain ash. Passed a Prado that did it with Road tyres. All good till we hit the last ridge - that was tough and rutted. Ended up taking the side track to the left after a few false attempts.
Up top it was windy, cold with 360 views. Absolute ripper. No better place than the high country. An all star cache that ticks every box and gets a big fave from me!

04-Nov-18
Day 3 of an epic 5-day roadtrip hiking and 4WDing between the Alpine and Kosciuszko National Parks with Jacko had us starting at Island Bend, hiking around Charlotte Pass and then travelling to Omeo via some 4WD backroads.

This little climb was an unexpected and unplanned highlight.
Crossing the Murray River near Dogman Hut wasn't too much of a challenge so we were feeling quite confident.
Hey look, there's a cache out there on Mt Pinnibar - just a short drive!
We made our way up the Mount Pinnibar Track without incident although there was a small section just before the Mount Anderson Track which took a few attempts.
Two hours, 20km and over 1000m of climbing later we reached the top. Just before 6pm we were able to take in the wild and windswept views from GZ.
Thanks djcache.

Just catching up on some late logging following (apologises) a trip to the Victorian High Country with the Rats and a group of muggles. Thanks for adding to the fun filled week we had as part of our school holidays.
Thanks

22-Apr-18
Outside of caching the Rats love to go 4WDriving. With this in mind we combined our 2 favourite passions to spend a week exploring the Victorian High Country with some close friends. In a convoy of 7 vehicles we left the black-top at Tom Groggin (NSW) and we didn't see civilisation again for another 7 days when we finally popped out of the bush at Mansfield.
Our adventure saw us traversing the Billy Goats Bluff, The Blue Rag and soaring to the dizzy heights of Mt Stirling, Mt Pinnibar and The Pinnacles with the highlights being the amazing scenery and challenging tracks. Smile

While we didn't stop at every cache, we chose to find this one as it held some significance for us. The weather was against us here, but the challenge of reaching here was enough.
Thanks

12-Feb-18
Found with Beaker on a week-long 4WD trip through the high country. Highlights included walking to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, sunset from the top of Mt Pinnibar, seeing an Eastern Water Dragon in the Crooked River and having the living daylights scared out of us by a deer at Wonnangatta! Along the way we rescued a bushwalker from a 7km limp with a sprained ankle, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, saw many huts and beautiful scenery, did some excellent 4WD tracks and some great caches.
This was an amazing location and a favourite for sure! Thanks Smile

12-Feb-18
Found with FerociousFlea while on our 8 day 4WD sojourn through the the High Country. We were collecting caches that we liked the look of as we went along.
Found on the same day that we had walked to the summit of Kosciuszko. A great drive that we hadn't planned on doing, but the Davies High Plains road was closed so we chose Mt. Pinnibar instead. I'm so glad that we did. Arrived on the summit just on sunset, which made for a perfect end to a perfect, mild and cloudless day Smile To only give one fave point is surely a crime!!

A bit of a late log, but we were here on the 2 March. It was not planned for us to be here, but it was a case of too much GPS and not enough map. We were headed from a camp at Dogs Grave to Tom Groggin and to cut a long story short we had quite an adventure and apart from having to dig our rental cruiser out of a bog hole and getting a little miss laid, it was definatly the most interesting day of our trip. We came via Mt Anderson and ended up at Nariel, getting there well after darl. In fact we got there around 11pm as I recall.
We stopped briefly at this cach and were disapointed to find the container empty with no lid and out in the open, however, it was an amazing place to visit and we are glad that things turned out the way they did.
Cheers and many thanks for placing a cache here.

beautiful spot. Came up Mt Pinnibar track from Tom Groggin. Very steep and quite rutted in places and very steep and rocky in others. Found the cache no problem. Returned via Mt Anderson - that's definitely the easier track if you're coming from Tom Groggin.

08-Jun-13
Visited this spot a number of times in the past before I knew there was a cache here. Planned to camp the night on the top but we were beat there by another group so we watched a spectacular sunset and moved on.

23-Dec-12
Great spot and drive up from Tom Groggin. TFTH

25-Mar-12
Well it might have helped if I took the GPS up there too........................... Sad
Anyway we had a great campsite at Buckwong Creek down near the Murray. Some friends didn't quite make it up from the east side the day before, mainly due to drizzling rain and just couldn't get enough traction. So the next day we did a lap around that section via Mount Anderson. We were hoping for great views from the top of Pinnabar, but the last 30 meters in height was in the clouds. Even a bit of snow up there.

21-Mar-12
first cache day, out with POLAIR guys @ Tom Groggin Station.

28-Jan-12
Found in the last daylight, just before spectacular sunset over Mt. Pinibar. Not that we would plan to be anywhere that high with the storm comming, but a nasty log over Wheelers Creek road changed our plan for the afternoon. Views were awesome, though. TFTC

Camping nearby at Tom groggin and couldn't resist andother trip up the top of this mountain. Amazing views from up here. Nearly 30 at the bottom cold and low teens at the top. i can't believe all those dead trees are from bushfires long ago. The Ranger on kosioskio siad it woudl take 50 years for them to re-grow. wow.

ON A 4 DAY TRIP STARTING AT CORRYONG AND VISITING GIBSON HUT, MT PINNIBAR, MT ANDERSON, MT GIBBO, TOM GROGGIN, DAVIES PLAIN HUT, MCKILLOPS BRIDGE, MT TINGARINGY AND THEN FINISH AT DELEGATE.
IT WAS AN UNBELIEVABLE TRIP WITH SOME GOB SMACKING VIEWS. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE TRIP TO ANYONE PROVIDING YOU HAVE A DESCENT 4WD VEHICLE AND 4WDING SKILLS.
OUR 2ND FIND FOR DAY 1.
WE WERE AMAZED BY THE VIEWS AT MT PINNIBAR. MET A NUMBER OF VEHICLES AND MOTORBIKES AT THE SUMMIT.

I love a cache that's a challenge to get to with a huge reward in the surrounds. Visibility at the top was about 40m unfortunately, same as last time I was there though it wasn't raining this time so views just of the summit were spectacular. Thanks!

decided to drop of some tempting goodies . Nearly 12 months since our last visit
hopefully school hols will see the cache get some more logs. Back this way in a couple of weeks
so if the goodies are still there we will move them on

#240 Found at 11.25am. Love this spot - we come here often in all seasons. Last time we were here late July there was a couple of feet of snow & although we brought a shovel with us it became apparent very quickly that we weren't going to get anywhere near GZ. So we didn't bother seeking the cache that time but we had a great day in the snow instead. Today was a beautiful day with no wind. Cache is in great nick.

Took: Silver/Purple Stress Ball & Keyring Doll
Left: KFC Cricketer and Thong Key Ring

TFTC & bringing us back to our favourite place Big Grin

Some things are not meant to be,
We had camped at Buenba Creek for the weekend intending to find this and another high country cache in the area.
4 inches of rain over 2 days left us no choice but to abandon our attempt, this time.
Swollen creeks and rivers, red clay sections make for very difficult conditions in this remote area.

We felt especially sorry for a group of 4wd's camped with caravans on the wrong side of the Mitta Mitta river
who had to wait 3 days for the river to subside.
One brave soul tried to cross, got 3m from the bank and nearly drowned his vehicle before reversing back to safe ground.

We shall return

Stunningly beautiful country

Thanks

Found it today but think I wrote 27th in the book. Love this place. Only a few tiny patches of snow today but great views. Was here same weekend last year with lots of snow and thick for and no visibility. Albury Wodonga 4WDC trip so showed some others what geocaching is.

found at 1140 hrs. an absolutely fantastic drive, extremely rough and steep in places. pasted a pushbike rider half way up from Tom Groggin, was it mtbikeroz? he wasnt really a pushbike rider - more like a pushbike pusher cause he wasn't riding it. Views were uninterupted with a wonderful clear blue sky. We then headed to Mt Gibbo in search for Geocache "Gibson, or Pinnabar?. Dont believe it cause its not there. Fantastic views from Gibbo as well. We then headed to Wheelers Hut on a forrestry road which was a pleasure to drive on after the prior 6 hours of bouncing around the bush.
Thanks DJCache for a well thought out location.
Took Street machine and left Koala Key Ring.
TFTC & SL
P.S. dont forget the aeroguard.

03-Jan-07
Found this one after a night camped in the car after arriving at the summit after 11pm on a near full moon lit night. It was a great view then, and even better as the sun rose early the next morning. Nothing like a 360 degree view from your "bed" on top of a mountain to start off the day. With spot on co ords, the cache was in hand quickly. Signed log, made swaps, and then off to Mt Gibbo for the next cache.

Out - I think its a hiking water bottle holder, which works really well as a GPS holder Smile
In - Cow loofah sponge, meaning its a loofah sponge shaped like a cow, not a loofah sponge for cows. And a N.Z. 20c coin.

A great cache location, Cheers.

Getting up to this cache is only half the challenge!!! Absoutely stunning scenery around the area and very challenging tracks as well! Almost didn't attempt the last section but I'm glad I did (even if I did have to repack the cube of Solo I had in the back)... Thanks to Roostaman for the encouraging ascent before me Razz

A highly enjoyable trip ap into the hills,

Slowed only by some English tourists in a rented road vehicle on their maiden voyage into the high country,
Completely crossed up on the side of a big hill and totally oblivious as to their impending death!!!

The early autumn snow made for an interesting drive up, also for wet cold feet while looking for this cache.

22-Apr-06
Found at 12:36 with the first group of HCCP travelers to treck up Mt Pinibar, the view blew us away and reminds Adam of the last time he was up there fighting the north east fires back in 2003. The snow was amazing and you wouldn't want to try attempt this cache in wet conditions as the track is very steep and slippery.

TNLN

Thanks DJ for placing a cache in another amazing location

Just another part of a exciting week end, some four wheel driving, a lesson from Mr Thrifty on how not to climb a slippery hill and a snow man for Emily to play with while we took in the breath taking views. Little miss Muggle also showed Emily a little about how snow ball work
Thanks again DJ

22-Apr-06
This was one of the many highlights of this event, the drive to he cache was excellent and the fact that some of the children in our group had never seen snow before which made it even better, the previous group had even made a snowman. Little Miss Muggle decided that the adult's were prime targets for snowball throwing games
On the way in we did however get a lesson from Mr Thrifty about what can go wrong if you tackle this sort of terrain unprepared and also an excellent ad for Toyota 80 series by Roostaman showing what this vehicle is capable of. The cache had been located before we got to gz so there was nothing left to do but sign the logbook
Thanks again djcache

After a fun drive to the base of the mountain the first group bunched up for the assault. With hubs locked and low range 1st in gear, we watched each vehicle climb into the cloudless sky.
After a short time it was the Coffee swilling clans turn and the Hilux lurched forward with a (non turbo, thanks Phil) roar. The vehicle climbed up and I could feel the grip of the mud terrain tyres biting into the base of clay mud and rock and the more I kept up the revs the more the tyres gripped in. Half way up and the engine was revving high but coping without trouble and the Hilux kept on climbing. We reached the pinch and the adrenilan kicked in with the mental checklist. everything OK I gazed upwards searching as I went for the best line of track, i braced my left foot hard against the transmission hump and pushed the accelarator harder to keep the momentum going. With the tyres biting in harder and not one bit of wheel slip I knew we had tamed the hill this time and with a whisper of yes I eased of the throttle as the Hilux levelled off at the top.
We drove into the top area to join the rest of the group and we were on a high up high.
Jumping from the vehicle we headed for the cache GZ and to my surprise the cache had not been found yet. Resisting the urge to let the others find it (YER RIGHT) I joined in and i'll be a wild and windswept cacher I found the cache.
I opened the log book expecting a blank page and was amazed to find the NSW 4x4 club had found the cache. At the time of writing I have not seen a log by them and there was no indication that they were geocachers. a FTF for the High Country tour, but not the first to write a log.
The pinnacle of the trip acomplished for the Coffee Clan and again Thanks to DJ seems so little, but thank you anyway
Regards Mr.Coffee and the "Wild, Windswept and Having a Ball" Clan.

Found on 22/04/06 @ 1235 AEST. Quite an adventure was enjoyed on the 4Wd tracks on the way to Mt Pinnibar, and the snow on the mountain mad the search a bit chilly Wink. The cache was unearthed (or should that be unsnowed?) in its well concealed hiding spot my Mr Coffee, who, much to his chagrin, discovered that it had been found two days earlier by NSW 4WD cachers unknown to us [?]

After helping an unforunate, first time 4w driver in a hired Thrifty vehicle who didnt know the difference between high and low gear we finally found gz.

Probably the most fun we've had getting to a cache! Roosta did his best to try and scare everyone... wish I had seen it.

Everyone had fun in the snow, specially the kids.

Thanks DJ

22-Apr-06
This was going to be one great day trip and it didn't let us down, although the unexpected delay could have made it difficult to get to the 2nd cache in time. After seeing the thrifty man earlier it was fairly predictable that he would hold us up later on, and he did. After that the final climb was even more interesting and yes a little 'scary' for a few seconds, but all worked out in the end & we got to the cache safely. The views were just tops, like all the others very similar all weekend.
Took a dino toy & left a doll toy
Thanks a heap djcache, we love your high country back yard.

22-Apr-06
A great day out in the High Country, the adrenilin pumped for the river crossings, steep inclines and decents made it all the more exciting. The young quilts had thier first taste of snow and where quick to start a snow ball fight that we all joined in on. What a great view from the cache area.
Thanks

Found by Mary & David at about 1350 with the second HCPPP convoy. We were delayed by about an hour by the Mr Thrifty group up ahead, culminating in his rescue by Fullonphil, Dicko and the Red 40. The slippery conditions made for some interesting moments for a few others as well, but once on top at Pinnabar the views made it all worth while. There was even a snowman to greet us. TNLN. Our thanks to djcache.

22-Apr-06
The trusty "Playdough" made light work of the slippery track conditions, although one of our party had to be winched, and another had to make a couple of attempts.Once on top at MT Pinnabar the views were absolutely spectacular. The geo kids in the group even had time to make a snowman.
