Just dropped the boy off in Whakatane for rugby and now it's my time. I decided to come down and grab this one. I parked near the bridge and pondered which sign to head up the bank from. There was a little bit of scrambling but the hint was perfect and the cache was soon located. Cheers Rick-a-mortis and TFTC

I've lived in this area all my life, use to be my playground when I was younger. Ive only joined the geocache community a few months ago. I finally have gone out and grabbed this cache with my nieces today to find myself reminiscing about my childhood. Brought back alot of memories, so thank you to whom placed this cache.
Easy find with a beauty view exactly like I remember

We have met up with The Seagnoids in outback Opotiki. Now we are out exploring with KiwiOAM7 and hubby exploring around Opotiki. Stoped off here to snag and tag this one. Cheers .
Day 16 - Saturday 2 January 2021 - Whakatane to Opotiki today. Some TMGTs to visit before we leave town. Meeting up with The Seagnoids sister for the evening. And the rains came, with drums beating and an awesome night lights show.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), brother and nephew... We've had our eyes on the Motu Trail over the years, but haven't had enough motivation to journey that way - until today...
This one was well off the beaten track, and we felt a strong urge to knock it off. Since Gap had logged this cache years ago, we were the only ones needing this lonely hide... The location was beautiful on a warm, sunny morning, and the river looked inviting. We got down to business and tried to apply the hint to the various signs on the hillside. After a meticulous search, we zeroed in... Thanks Rick-a-mortis and TFTC.

Decided to get out of my snail shell while the weather was good. It was forecasted not to last.
I replaced the logsheet with a new clean waterproof one and removed all the other wet and munted ones.
Cheers for the cache.

Climbed the bank to get this cache and I had a successful find but the cache container is very wet inside. TFTC
driving up to collect my cyclists made a quick stop. tftc. stream looking very inviting on this hot day.
Road to nowhere? Hell no! This is the end of the road from the Pakihi Track. Starting at Tirohanga I cycled the 6 hour loop up the Motu Road, down the trand, into Opotiki and back to Tirohanga. The track is a blast. It's awesome. One really narrow spot where I had to get off the bike (the track is almost straight down on one side and straight up on the other) and a couple of tiny steep sections that I hit in the wrong gear, but the rest was an awesome cruisey ride, although the long straight back into town was a bit tedious.
Anyway, thanks for the rest stop along the way. Cache is wet inside and the log could use replacing. I recommend double containering.
Merry Christmas and a cachey New Year from thte Seagnoid!

Decided to ditch the family on Christmas day and took the young fella out for a cache
Enjoyed exploring this area. Will have to come back in summer when it's a bit warmer. TFTC
Tftc! Son found it after a trek up the maunga, hunted around for a bit, then success. We had a chill out on the bridge, soaked up the fresh air and enjoyed the quiet.
Datestamp should be 1/1/16

Log all dry. Smells a bit musty though but considering it was last found april 2015 no surprise

Unfortunately I didn't have the mountain bike with me today, but planning on doing the trails someday. Still a pleasant drive up the valley, and once at GZ the cache was found after a few minutes of searching. Looking forward to returning.
Enjoyed the track and grabbed this on the way out. Sad to see it was 10 months since last found. TFTC
Found while riding out from the Patiki track. Thanks to the Motu trails there are now several signs here, but the geotrail was obvious and the container soon found even when scrambling up in bike shoes. The replacement logbook is clean and dry. Good to claim another Rick-a-mortis cache - it's been a while.
What a lovely trip out there. Got scratched by the barbary bush though up the hill
Early start for a cache challenge today. Being mainlanders from the deep south we always enjoy driving around on country roads. Soon had the cache in hand but it was in urgent need of maintenance as the log was mush. Added a new log book in a seal proof bag for the next visitors TFTC.

It's certainly a way out place for a cache but we had fun looking for it:) Unfortunately it is wet inside - even inside the plastic bag that the pad is in
This was our first geocache with friends. We are now hooked. Thanks Beachcombers535.
Nice area. Spent the avo at The Boulders with friends, then introduced them to GC with this one. Contents very wet though.
Quick find on way back after dropping off a couple of trampers. Bit of a prickly route to cache. TFTC
2nd find this afternoon, this country looks great to go for a walk, great looking camp sites and swimming holes. contents damp.
THE CACHE IS STILL THERE. Found today, although I didn't think I would find it. It is a plastic barrel jar with a black lid. It had water in it and some of the swap items are a bit had-it, but log was ok. Showed W.E.K.A. as last finder before me. I have posted a photo to show it. This is the correct cache, I have not replaced it and its location was fitting the description. Don't know how other geocachers missed it. SL TFTC

Wasn't holding out much hope for this one, going by what the pervious posts said, but thought would give it a go anyway as was going past on way to 'End of the road" and a walk on Pakihi track.
Found the sign, managed to scramble up behind, GPS zeroed, found the likely looking punga with a very obvious nestly place just behind. But no cache - so I agree with last posts - it's gone.
Checked behind all the other pungas just to be sure.
I think this needs some attention

After 30mins of searching every punga up the bank and being scratched by thorns and trees we gave up. May pay to check this one as there has been a slip near the post.
Found it today, after a false start yesterday, but still no sign of the cache. [B)]
A straightforward find, but the cache had some water in it and was quite damp and smelly. Incredibly, two vehicles passed while we were there. TFTC
A great drive. Bit of a scuttle up the bank. Many Punga trees!!! But found it. Thanks.
Nice day for a dusty drive, easy find, cache in excellent condition.

Yep, great to come out here in a hired van, van handled it well. Cache is doing well to.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Cache find #1500. An interesting junction, on the way to the end of the road. Had to scramble up a bit, the wings were rather tired today. The new sign was tall enough to help in the process. Cache covered in road dust. Thanks
Second time looking for this one. Last time it had been muggled so pleased to finally claim it after waiting 12 months. TFTC
Great to see this cache back up and running. Was gone at my last attempt but today found easily. TNLNSL.
Pretty scenery for a road that goes nowhere!
Lucky for us, beautiful sunny day so road
not a problem.
Thanks for showing us around.

It looks like the recent storms have taken this cache out. Where the GPS gave the closest location is in the middle of slip debris that has being bulldozed over the bank. Assuming the GPS was naywher near right, this one is history.
Yeah our 1st FTF
We have just passed our insanity test ( out in the pouring rain in the middle of no where looking for a plastic jar)
Easyer than expected thought rick-a-mortis was more deveious
