Thought we could get a quick cache whilst staying in the campervan park. Sadly not to be. No sign here anymore - just a dug up ditch which looks like they’re going to replace the path.

Major maintenance and repair work at the GZ including the sign/plaque where the cache container was hidden. Disabled until the work is completed and we can place a new cache there.

08-Aug-19
Doesn’t look like the sign is there at the moment due to park maintenance

I tried to find this cache at 4:28:00 PM on 19/07/2019.
I didn't have much luck which could have been for many reasons. I shall return at a later date.

Fences all arount this one, can see GC but no go.

14-Jul-19
Got to go and found it fenced in. Noticed someone had found yesterday, read the log and then I too managed to reach it.

13-Jul-19
I pinpointed this one as a possible start for me for the Museum game 'detective' clue and realising what an awesome GZ location it would be was happy enough for it to bring up my #300 cache. Imagine my disappointment on arrival to find council fencing everywhere!!! Argh! I pulled over to allay my emotions only to realise that I might still be in luck. Finding a possible access route, I got myself legitimately within reach... and super stoked my small digits could reach the goods. Signed a fresh logbook and popped it back in its spot. Despite the stunning sunny morning, most of the nearby 'residents' were still tucked warmly in their campers. TFTC

New log book and nano container placed today.
Happy caching!!!

New log book and replacement nano container in place now!! Happy caching!!

Cache micro container reported missing- will replace ASAP

We are normally rushing to and from the airport do don't stop as we go by. Fun to get this one today. Tftc

On our way to the South island today. Having signed a challenge cache near Half Moon Bay where two caches are to be found in the same day one in the North island and one in the south, the first part was sorted this morning before we set off for the ferry. This was it. A nice easy find next to a very unusual piece of art.

First one on the log! Thx

Log book replaced with heaps of muggle campers around plus a couple of cyclists. Stealth mode engaged by Sunrise and Bubble using the old “tying the shoelaces” trick and then the “lying on the ground pretending to tKe a photo trick”.

Happy Caching!!

On our 23rd day in New Zealand we stayed in Wellington. We were looking at this nice city and found an number of caches. Thanks for all the cache owners to maintain all these. We had good fun and came to many interesting places. Well, that was really the question here. An interesting place indeed! The monument looks great! The box was quickly found and logged. The log has only one more open position!
TFTC and greetings from Switzerland

Unser zweiter Besuch in Wellington. Gemeinsam mit "apaspa" suchten wir heute einige der begerten GZs auf und auch einige andere am Weg liegende nahmen wir in unserer Statistik auf.
Auch die Kleinsten werden rasch gefunden. TFTC

Found it

A great place for a cache and there wasn't the muggle problem I thought there might have been. A quick subtle retrieval while reading the info. It's not immediately obvious that this thing is a substantial piece of engineering until you're standing underneath it. Thanks for placing here.

14-Dec-18
Thanks for placing the cache, we had a wee drive around town picking up a few caches.

12-Dec-18
Very hard to open but got there in the end. Perfect evening for a stroll and cache. Super busy muggle area with lots of camper vans. Great hide! TfTC.

As previous finder mentioned, I was unable to open the micro so attaching a photo log. Quick find.

These are my last few hours in NZ. A 5 week road trip is coming to an end this afternoon..

This thing is HUGE. A little unnerving to stand right under it and just see it.. sway.

I had been staying in the city but was helping to run a course today over in the Mirimar area. I am also currently trying to maintain a current daily geo-streak and so despite the weather in was important that I make a find today. I focussed on this one as it was conveniently on the way to my destination for the day. So after parking as close to GZ as I could, I made my way on foot and thanks to your hint I made a quick find. And so as it was raining I took the cache back to the car to open. The log book has been initialled S.T.P. and is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next finder. So thank you pinetree and sunrise for taking the time to set up this cache. While I had seen the wind wand many times in passing... I had never before ever stopped to actually look at it. TFTC Smile

With the 12 hours time difference between New Zealand and The Netherlands I wake up very early and therefore have enough time to visit some geocaches in Wellington before my flight to Dunedin departs later this morning.

I first drive up to the virtual cache 'Mount Victoria (Wellington, Wellington)'. At the dark and very windy top a take the required selfie and also make a find of the nearby traditional 'Wellington 702'. My next stop is at the letterbox 'The Jolly Postman (Wellington)'. There is no real nearby parking but as the area is still deserted during this very early morning I decide to leave my car on the road close to the given location. At ground zero I see several traces leading into the different bushes at ground zero. None of these leads towards the cache itself. Only after I extend my search area into some of the other bushes I manage to locate the cache.

The next one on my list is again a traditional. Thanks to the very clear hints I have no issues to locate the very small cache of 'What's the point? (Wellington)'. The earth cache 'Colossal Forces -Changing Directions (wellington)' is the last cache to visit in Wellington. I conduct all the required measurements and take another selfie. Constructing the actual answers for this earth cache will have to wait until I return home.

pinetree and sunrise thanks for creating and maintaining this cache. Greetings from the Netherlands.

We passed this art work several times while buzzing around Wellington, so when we saw it was quiet we made a quick park and grab. Signed as Jeje. Tftc.

23-Oct-18
Today we found What's the point? (Wellington) on our travels. We have driven past this interesting looking artifact a few times during our brief visit to Wellington. We were on our way back to the airport for our flight home across the ditch so we thought we should have a closer look. I wonder....maybe the sculpture was pointing the way home? The point for a lonely soul who plonked himself down after wobbling over to the nearby seating is to get as much vodka into himself as possible while gazing at the sculpture! The Chief went into stealth mode and feigning difficulty reading the sign replaced the cache and we were away!

Thanks pinetree and sunrise for being part of our geocaching fun.

22-Oct-18
Our last day in Wellington, we were here for the Wellington Mega Event. We have had a fantastic weekend, we have attended a heap of events, found a heap of caches and met some great like minded people.
We did not really have a plan for today other than to get one challenge cache in town and to be at the airport this evening.
So we thought we would just pick up a few traditionals as we made our way towards the airport.
There were plenty of campervans nearby but we don't think anyone was interested in what we were doing.
The cache was in the first place I looked, love it when that happens, and it was in such a place that I could do what I needed to do while reading the sign.
Thank you pinetree and sunrise for placing this cache and thank you for the smilie

A quick park and grab and easy find while out about with KJR on day 1 at the Wellington Mega. A great idea for the freedom camper and lots of them here cooking tea which didn't help with the hunger pains. TFTC ?

In Wellington for the Mega. Day #1 of our geocaching adventure and was starting to get hungry by this stage. A few campers about cooking dinner so the find was made quickly with Gadget169 and then off to get something to eat! TFTC

# 1103 On the way home from the air port so a quick park and grab was requires to keep the streak alive. Lucky for me there are so many options in Wellington. This one was an easy find with the clue. The hardest part was rolling up the excessively long log sheet back into the container while pretending to be interested in the text on the.sign. great so see such an old cache still around. This one was placed in 2006 and is clearly well loved still and very popular. Thanks pinetree and sunrise for the cache.

We have travelled to Wellington in the camper with the intention of caching on the way down and back for several days. We were passing time before booking into our hotel to attend a conference over the weekend, and parked nearby in the Evans Bay Marina and while having a cup of coffee checked out local caches. We have done a few around here in the past but wow, look at that, there is one only 30 meters away. It took longer than it should have and Mr S spotted it even though Mrs S had already had a look. Obviously not a very good look. LOL. . Mr S has seen this object blown almost flat by the wind and believes it was once blown off its foundation. Would not have like to be nearby when that happened.

Thanks pinetree and sunrise. One more smilie in Wellington.

May 17, 2018 15:42:39 GMT+12 Find #6802

Here’s a synopsis of my caching journey so far:
I've been geocaching since January 2011
My longest caching streak is 366 consecutive days. I gave this streak up when it became a chore and I had to drive miles to get my daily cache.
My busiest caching day had 179 finds when I walked the SWALK series above Shoreham, Sussex, UK.
My most diverse day was 3rd August 2016 when I achieved 11 icons traveling up to the UK Mega – Wales.
I’m currently working towards my 3rd and 4th loops of the Difficulty / Terrain grid and only need 4 caches to complete both.
I've been First to Find a geocache on 385 occasions.

Thanks pinetree and sunrise for placing this cache! Smile

Had a long tiring, wet day today.... and it isn't even 3pm yet. I dumped a pile of TB's that I brought over from Australia in my usual Wellington TB dumping cache, then proceeded around the harbour.... up the side of the mountain, over the summit, along the ridgeline then down to the airport road. At that time it started raining a little heavier but I could not get a taxi to stop so I continued along the road. At the roundabout near the airport, it started chucking it down and I am in no mans land... no taxi wants to touch me (who wants a $2 fare), no bus stop in sight, no shelter at all. There was nothing for it but to simply plough on to the airport. Once I arrived, I was of course soaked to the bone.... my passport, which was buried in my bag is soft and damp (I hope I can get it into the auto gates!). But.... there is a silver lining, I got to have a shower in the lounge... benefits of flying all the time.

Today conitained 2 DNF's, lots of trads, a virtual, a letterbox, a few puzzles and 17000 steps!

LOg seems full, but oldest signatures have washed off so all good.

Staying for night close by and had to log this one as I‘m sleeping not even 20 meters away. Thanks for this opportunity.

Moved back to welly last week. Last time I lived here I remember driving to the airport the morning after a big storm and only seeing half a needle - it was hit by lightning the previous night. Nice to see it restored Smile

What's the point? Well, the point is that we were camped within 40 metres of the cache, so we could not just ignore it and leave it unfound, could we? The visual hint was not needed as experience and geo sense said where it would be. Thank you to pinetree and sunrise for putting this cache out, which can be easily found even while many camping muggles are close by. Probably the other point would be that a pluviometer would be more useful on a day like today than a zepyrometer.

Haven't taken the time to stop and look at this before, so thanks for the cache highlighting it. Easily found exactly where clue points to. Lots of muggles around, but easy to retrieve and return to hiding place.

Found during our holiday to New Zealand together with GeoFinn. Touring in a campervan through this amazing country; second time here, now with our son. 5 weeks was over in a blink; already plans for a third time.

Travelling, geocaching, hiking, kayakking, swimming, mountains, lakes, geyers, beaches; it was amazing. CO's thanks for your cache, it made our trips even more fun.

Found that cache with Kerstin.nds after we spent two nights in our van on the parking lot. That's the only one place were you can camp close to the city, that's why here are so much muggles around.

After the second night we had breakfast on the benches bear the cache, so we could easily watch out for the cache. Finally we found that little one on a spot were we expected it from the beginning.
