4WD Adventure
Found with Joolay and brother Pogsy on our drive south of Canberra with lessons being given on 4wd skills. Great to pick up this oldie at last. I really enjoyed the chance to drive in along the track and take the short walk to GZ.
Thanks for your hide here flattreker

Awesome to pick this up today. We got up pretty close but walked the last 150m. Beautiful cool day to be out in the bush.
A 4WD excursion with Kittykatch and Pogsy. Learning lots. First cache picked up and heading out.
Thanks For getting me out and about flattreker

I don't usually head out so far from Canberra for my weekend jaunts, but today I decided to venture a little further afield, and ended up in Captain's Flat. Went for a good walk up and down the hills around the dam, enjoying the new scenery, before continuing on to the old cemetery to round out the day.
El Capitain: An auspicious name during the "reach the peak" challenge, perhaps! This was a quick find, in spite of it being untouched for a year.
Thanks for the cache!

Not many people willing to do the walk up this hill judging from the logs. Took an interesting, but very steep approach. Made good progress and a quick find.

Out for the day around Captains Flat to go down memory lane remembering our cycling days around this area staying the night at the old pub. Picked up a few selected caches at the same time.

With GreyHams we made a day of Captains Flat with the plan to find the last remaining of the local caches as we could. A warm day with quite a lot of shorter walks along the trails not accessible by car and some we made accessible along the allowed roads with some care. A few park and grabs, a cave, some great scenery and views all made for an enjoyable and productive day with a lot of variety.
A lot of growth since the cache was placed and not even a 4WD would be able to make it up here now, the tracks just been reclaimed by growth. Nice to see an old cache like this one about so worth the upwards trek for the last cache of the day. Thanks for the cache flattreker.

After a FTF chase out here as well as finishing the CPT with extras last weekend, Aquilus1 and I had planned to clean out Captains Flat in its entirety.
We found nearly everything we searched for, some taking longer than others, but all in all it was a very satisfying day with all caches attempted in a 10km radius of Captains Flat.
Just the one DNF, but there seemed to be a lot of recent work at GZ for that one.
Bit of a trek up here for this one, especially as it was the last for the day and we were both feeling it, but just super happy to have finished all we wanted

Hard slog up but after a quick find thanks to the hint we naturally found an easier way down. Kutgw
Today we returned to Captains Flat to tackle the caches that were accessible by four wheel drive. We enjoyed the journey to this cache.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.
We drove some of the way here along the dirt track, then parked and walked the rest of the way, down into a valley and then up to the cache. It gave us some exercise. The log was dry, but the cache was cracked, so if someone could bring a suitable sized replacement cache it might be a good idea. TFTC flattreker.
#1468 After spending the afternoon here, this was my 14th and final find. I had to walk all the way up to GZ. Cache was well hidden. Thanks flattreker.
Spent to-day with the missus finding caches along the Captains Flat Road and around Captains Flat and surrounds. Came home with a swag to TBs. Good views from the top. TFTC.
#1951 5 of 11 today.
I had to make a quick check on a couple CFT caches & once that was done I headed out to grab some of the new caches out this way.
Time to leave the car & go by foot for a couple. It was a bit of a trip out to this one, but well worth it.
Thanks for the cache flattreker.

What a great cache. We enjoyed the crank up the hill and was rewarded with a fantastic view of Captain's flat, which by the way isn't that flat. We didn't grab this one on our last trip here due to time constraints but today we made the time and the effort and most glad we did. Thanks for making what I would discribe as a real old school geocache.

Found with TikvaNZ. The 5th of nine out of nine finds on a journey that started out cool and overcast, but ended up hot and pretty sunny. And 4th time that I made the find. That is a record. Usually it is TikvaNZ, with his canny cache sense honed from years of experience, who gravitates to the cache as if by magic.
Great views from the top. I was concerned that maybe the fog or low cloud would spoil the view, but it was high enough that it did not impede the view at all.
Today is only the second time that I've been to Captains Flat. It was too early for the pub. One day I'll get to see that looooong bar and sip a cold one there.
Thx again flattreker!

Found with ZQX on a quest to find some specific caches in and around Captains Flat (Mostly high D/T caches). The stroll up the hill didn't seem to take long as we chatted away. ZQX again spotted this one quickly. TFTC.

Out for a drive from Queanbeyan to Captains Flat to Braidwood to Bungendore and then back to Queanbeyan. My last cache to find in Captains Flat. Grabbed this one early in the morning. Great views. Thanks flattreker.
SpecimenX and myself were off on another mini mission and Captains Flat and surrounds were our target. We were taking it nice and slow today as we were in no rush to be anywhere in particular. We didn't kick the day off until after lunch and were picked up a nice range of caches on various terrains from park n grabs to short hill climbs. We also found ourselves in the midst of an emergency situation within Captains Flat which involved a number of emergency services including the Southcare Helicopter. Hopefully the person involved makes a full recovery!!!
We parked the car on the dirt patch at the bottom or the track and off we went. I have been slowly pushing myself more n more on these types of tracks and I enjoyed this one. specimenX went up front and I followed, I wasn't too far behind her when we got to the top, I was happy with that. Once at GZ, specimenX came up with the goods and the logging duties were conducted and cache replaced. Once the caching duties were performed, we decided to wander around a little and see some of the views. We could see the Dam, the Lake George Mine, the town below. We were also able to watch the Southcare Helicopter take off from this location too. In total, the helicopter was in Captains Flat for just over 3 hours.
We then strolled back down towards the geomobile. Enjoyed the track and the views were brilliant.
Thanks for the cache placement flattreker

Saturday had arrived! So that meant Rapidlywild and I were off on another geomission full of fun and frivolity cruising around the Captains Flat area
After making the find on a nearby cache, we decided to give this one a go. Up, up, up we went! Had to stop a couple of times as my calves were burning and I was a little puffed-but the cardio was good! Once at the top the cache was in hand after a few moments Whilst we were up there, we took advantage of the great view to see if we could spot the emergency services near the dam attending to a medical emergency. It seems they must have had their patient as the Southcare chopper which was on the oval had lifted off. Hope their patient will be okay.
So with all the action over it was time for me and RW to make our way back to the car to continue on with our adventure
Thanks for the hide, flattreker

We decided to head out of the local area today to collect our smiley's, so our choice was to head to Captains Flat as FFLLNo2 had not been out to this area before.
We pulled off at the side and headed up the hill in search of the treasure. The climb was quite invigorating and the view from the top was definitely worth the climb. Located the hide and back down the hill to the geomobile.

Went for a ride in the son's new 4WD and this seemed like a good destination. Definitely 4WD only with very steep slopes and rough track. Could only get the Patrol to within 70m of the GZ so went for a walk to enjoy the view and find the cache. Nice view of Captains Flat and the old mining works from here. TFTC.
Walked up from nearby the town, hoping to join in a 2 up game. Unfortunately none were happening at the time. Checked a few spots out, before finding the cache hidden. just not quite where I was expecting
Knew I had to do this one with geo-hubby as my little bush basher wouldn't go up there but the 4WD did.
Did a few before breakfast as this is the backyard for our bush block and thoroughly enjoyed this one. Great views and very clever clue - yes still use these as I am such a new chum and not completely at ease with Little Red Riding Hood (my new GPS) yet. Deserves a favourite for the these reasons. Great for geo kids, so parents make the effort! TFTC TNLN SL

Found this one only 42 meters from where I could ride to on the motor bike. Thanks for this one. Cheers
Out on a caching run with Doppelfrog and geo daughter Lauren.
Got pretty close in the jeep then a short walk up the hill. Great views back over the town.

A nice walk up the hill and I probably should have spent more time admiring the views. Captains Flat is much prettier than I remember it. Thanks for bringing us here!
I had a sook attack and had to have a rest halfway up the hill for this one. Great view when I finally got to the top.
Bit of a climb, can see the "golden view" cache hiding spot across the dam..
After a wander around the flat finding caches the terrain rating on this cache caught my attention [:o]
I guessed this cache chase wouldn't be so flat.
Not being able to work out how to walk up here from towne, I drove out along the Braidwood road looking for a way in.
I missed the first, easy, way in and ended up with a half kilometre or so stroll to GZ
That added an extra hill for me to stroll over.
Much more fun that way and I got to enjoy the peace and quiet of a lovely sunny day in the Aussie bush
I eventually made it to the top and found the cache safe and sound [^]

Found on our caching run through Captains Flat and Braidwood. A nice trek up but very windy!!! As usual up the hard way, back the easy one!
The scenery at the top of the hill be quite conflicting. One one side you have a mine with the town below and the other is natural bush. The wind here today was so strong it blew me off my balance. TFTC
Well this one had me for a bit. Didnt know how to approach it. Looked around and found a easy way. Got it TFTC nice view
This afternoon I headed out with Big Matt as I had quite a few caches in this area that I hadn't yet found.

I approached this by driving up the sealed main road until I found an area to turn into. When I got there I sat for a while and enjoyed the efforts of a team of motorcyclists doing hill-climbs in front of me. They eventually buzzed off leaving me free to do some hiking to the cache.
An enjoyable afternoon of exploring, thanks Flattrecker.

It was good to engage 4WD just to get that little bit closer, it was a well worn track so I was confident heading up. Stopped on the main track about 70mtrs away and walked the rest.
It was a very hot day but worth it once we reached the top. Had a little trouble initially, deciphered the hint - loved it! Located cache signed log and moved on.

Fourth cache for today. There is an alternate way to this cache, rather than trekking up from the town. This made it easier, but the views were just as good. Mini-wheat swapped a shark for the Captain comic figure (why??). Thanks Flattrekker.

543-7/29. Not sure where I was supposed to start the 4wd to get to this one, but I started at Captains Flat. It was quite an eroded road. Great 4wd track.
Didn't go all the way to the cache, so walked the hill. Great view. Now to figure out how to get out of here. That took quite a while with a few dead ends and precarious reversing.

#582 After Lunch we drove around then drove up a little track in the Softroader, Ok Cacher is quite capable but some of the washouts she straddled seemed to be deep enough to swallow her whole. stopped at the saddle as the vegetation had reclaimed the road and walked the last 100 to the top. Great view and the tree was magical. Visited the TB and then headed off to finish our adventure.
