Another long trip around AU over the top end with lots of detours. Now heading back east across the Nullarbor with a stop at Maralinga, Ceduna, Lincoln National Park, Coober Pedy & Oodnadatta.TFTC. Nicely high and dry. A gazillion flies today.
Oh wow, the flies! Had so much fun playing with them a few joined us in the car to keep the game going! It was on a whim that saw us in Oodnadatta last night. Great decision. Great to travel along the Oodnadatta Track, see the town and be in some real baron outback. A little delay this morning with a telehealth, that finished and in the car and out to see the area. Bare rock covered in the ground it makes you wonder what the cows eat. 60km return of some pretty bumpy roads to the painted Desert was worth it. Fairly sure a section is folliws a graded creek for a while. Stunning mesas and colours, and exploring in and on them in a mosaic of colours. Their are blue skies forever and the warm temperatures still just comfortable. Had a good chat with our last nights neighbours at the painted desert. Funny where you meet people. The day just kept giving, moon plain in the Gibber desert was a fascinating area to drive through, like something outer worldy with its rocky crystal covered surface, completely void of any plants. Back into Cooper Pedy to explore some more, crocodile Harry's bunker was a crazy character filled experience and worth the visit to see the eclectic home. Van collected, it was up the ladder at the welcome sign then off down the road heading south. After dinner at Glendambo, it was a free camp at Lake Hart after seeing The Ghan pass by shortly before.
**The Tale of Creaking Lora**It was a crisp autumn morning when we set off to find the elusive geocache known as "Creaking Lora." Nestled deep within the whispering woods, the cache had earned its name from the mysterious sounds that echoed through the trees at night. My friend Sam and I had heard the legends. Some said Lora was a ghost, a spirit tied to the ancient oak at the heart of the forest. Others believed the creaking was the sound of the trees themselves, bending under the weight of secrets they had kept for centuries. We were determined to uncover the truth and add Creaking Lora to our list of found caches.Equipped with our GPS and a keen sense of adventure, we followed the trail that led into the forest. The path was narrow and winding, covered in fallen leaves that crunched beneath our boots. The air was filled with the earthy scent of moss and the distant call of birds. As we ventured deeper, the light dimmed, filtered through the dense canopy above. Every now and then, a soft creak would pierce the silence, sending shivers down our spines. Sam laughed it off, attributing the noise to the wind, but I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched. Finally, we arrived at the coordinates. The ancient oak stood before us, its gnarled branches reaching out like skeletal fingers. The trunk was massive, with a hollow large enough to hide the most well-crafted geocache. I reached inside, my hand brushing against something cold and metallic."Got it!" I exclaimed, pulling out a weathered ammo can. We opened it to find the usual trinkets and a logbook, but there was something elsean old, yellowed letter. It was addressed to "The Brave Souls Who Find Me."Curiosity piqued, we unfolded the letter. It was a message from Lora herself, written decades ago. She had been a young woman who loved the forest, spending countless hours exploring its hidden corners. The creaking, she explained, was not a ghost or the trees, but a natural phenomenon caused by the wind and the unique shape of the oak.Lora had hidden the cache as a way to share her love for the forest with others. Her letter ended with a request: "Take a moment to listen to the creaks and appreciate the beauty of this place. Leave a token of your own for the next adventurers."We added our signatures to the logbook and left a small compass as our token. As we prepared to leave, we stood in silence, listening to the creaks that now felt like an old friend.Walking back, I felt a sense of connection to Lora and the countless geocachers who had come before us. The forest had shared its secret, and we were now part of its story. The legend of Creaking Lora was no longer a mystery, but a cherished memory.Come visit SA's longest running annual event -keep the Long weekend free- June 2025 Can't wait!!2490
This is such an amazing place. There is a little bit of water in the creek looks a bit muddy but theres water. Very happy to be here.
Traveling with friends this cache took a group effort as GPS wasn't playing nice. Tftc
Great Day to stop for a cache and to reset the Navman. Our GPS was jumping around a bit so we searched without and just looked for suitable hides and we found it in great condition. Travelling with TubbyBooBoo and JeffEddy. TFTC
Found on our way to the Painted Desert from Coober Pedy. We searched for a while and weren't lucky.. Then we looked at the owner's name and having done some of their others caches on our route before, it clicked. Great hide and thanks for your caches in remote Australia, Mac & Missus!

We were spending a couple of nights camped at the Arckaringa Station and the plan today was to head SE to the Kempe Rd, drive into Cooper Pedy then follow the Stuart Hwy to the western end of the Painted Desert Rd a few km's short of Cadney Park before returning to the station sightseeing and picking up the occasional cache along the way. This was the first cache we found while traveling along the Kempe Rd.
Lora certainly wasn't creaking today!
TFTC
PS: Grabbed a couple of TB's ("Rhino POLLI" & "Flo Our Whippet") from here that had been dropped off back in June.

Cache was found as part of a Simpson Desert trek by Team Waldron, Freddo, Featherwaite, E_Gregory1 and a couple of muggles.
After Coober Pedy it was off to Dalhousie Springs then across the desert to Birdsvaille south to Clayton Springs and then one last night in the Flinders.
A great trip and we even had time for a few caches.
I didn't look high enough but someone else did and we made the find.

Found as part of an extended trip with FeatherWaite, Freddo, Team Waldron and a couple of non-caching friend that saw us travel from Adelaide to Coober Pedy, through the Painted Desert to Oodnadatta, then on to Dalhousie and Mount Dare, before crossing the Simpson Desert to Birdsville and then back down to Adelaide via Marree and the Flinders Ranges.
We had pretty good weather, with moderately warm days and cool nights, but plenty of flies!
It was great to be able to find some remote caches in some really interesting and scenic locations.
Thanks Mac & Missus for the cache.

Thanks for the cache Mac & Missus!
Tenkae's Outback Adventure Day 15 - heading out to the Oonadatta Track and grabbing a few caches along the way
Six years ago, I couldn't find this cache... Today I came saw and made the grab pretty quickly, so der_Honk and I could sign the log.

WHOOPS! I'm logging about 100-200 or so caches like 3 months after the trip that we found them on! Completely forgot to log these but I did not forget the trip! Found this cache along with many others on an adventure around the red centre. Along this adventure we visited and explored many phenomenal and surreal places such as Woomera, Coober Pedy, Uluru and Mutitjulu, Kata Tjuta, Wattarka, Tnorala, Both East and West Macdonnell ranges, Arltunga, Ruby Gap, Palm Valley, Parts of the Finke road, Boggy Hole, Rainbow Valley, Old Ghan Route, Chambers Pillar, Oodnadatta track, Mount Dare, Dalhousie Springs, Painted Desert, Moon plane and I'm sure I've missed a few! Thank you so much for the cache. Found with Ferociousflea and -Beaker- along with our mint 79 series that accomplished alot in this two week time frame.

Tagging along with the "Rats" on holidays has it's advantages, not only do we get to see our cool country but we also get to do a heap of caching as Dad just can't help himself and has to stop at every cache he can.
Heading across Australia on nearly every dirt road possible we stopped and found your cache as part of our adventure and for that, I thank you! Sorry about the log being a "cut n paste" but tthats just because we stopped at so many caches.

The Rats and mini rats found this cache as part of our Purposeful Meander across Oz where we visited every mainland state in 8 weeks.
Apologises for the late log in some cases but we are only just catching up on our logging now that we have arrived back home. Your cache makes up many of the great memories we now have from the adventure. The faceplate style log doesn't detract from the experience we had finding the cache.
Thanks

Geo/rge and I having started our journey home from Alice Springs to Moe, Victoria; after attending the Red Centre Experience.
We are enjoying all the sites and sounds that the caches are taking us to.
After visiting the Painted Desert we are now hoping to make it to Woomera.
A quick find and the log was signed.

Yay! Fortunately the creek was dry so made finding this cache much easier. Even after 8 months undisturbed it was snug as a bug in a rug! Took reel of thread and left a Dinosaur! TFTC
This 'creaking' cache made a pleasant place to stop and stretch the legs today [^].
Wonder if this one will ever go underwater [?]. TNLNSL.
Thanks Mac & Missus.

It’s hard to comprehend how much water CAN flow through this country until you actually drive across the very obvious flood plain at places like this [:o]. The cache provided a perfect spot to stretch the legs and wonder at the power of Mother Nature [^].
Making our way to the Simpson Desert, but thought we would have another look at the Painted Desert on the way. Love the area.
Cheers and thanks for the cache

Lora Creek ?
Sounds like a writer of romance novels [:X]
[blue]I wandered off into the bayou, heart racing, to track down the tree that hid the cache of my dreams
A tree was found and a proposal made, that the cache would indeed be hidden within.
I looked and poked but this tree seemed to only hold broken caching promises
Frankly my dear, I couldn't give a damn [:o]
So I looked in another likely spot.
With a twinkle in me eyes, I caught sight of a thing of beauty !!
I quickly took the cache within my arms and scribbled sweet nothings in its log book
But this romance could never be !!
I was travellin' the dusty trails and could never settle down here [:o]
I said a final farewell to the cache, adorned in its fine green dress,
turned away and rode off into the desolate scenery. [/blue]
Is it just me ? Or does the isolation out here play tricks on the mind ?
TFTC.

Found 8.20am. Crazy calf freaked out when we turned up as it must have got separated from the herd. There's been lots of water through here but the cache is safe and secure in it's hidy hole. Took Noodles opal chip and left toy. Reading through the logs makes it easy to find the best time to travel. This is inhospitable country but it's a treat at this moment with cooler days and greenery. We're heading into the painted desert before continuing onto Alice. TFTC

Still in the same place despite flood and drought. It is high and dry just now.

A quick find on the way home, to match up with the Creaking Ted cache on the way up. Cheers. MODU.
regarding the last post, no I cannot be sure the cache is still there, but will check as soon as I am up that way again (probably about 6/12. Ian Mac
This one took a bit longer than it should have. Was it this side of the creek or that side? Had to dodge rather large cowpats as we meandered back and forth. Eventually located when we looked a bit harder in our original location. TFTC
